[Organization] House of Salvation

Post by Kabu » Wed Nov 15, 2023 7:42 am

House of Salvation
The religious arm of Sunagakure, the House of Salvation acts as a messenger for her Guiding Light, providing guidance on key religious doctrine, expectations and interpretation of religious texts. As a key part of their faith, the priests and leaders of the House of Salvation are also some of the greatest medical practitioners in the world and operate as the medical arm of the Sunagakure military. The House of Salvation leads Sunagakure in medical practice and the development of salves, poisons, and antidotes.

Description of the Organization: The House of Salvation is the official ‘church’ of Sunagakure, and operates as the religious arm of the village. All religious activities within Sunagakure are mediated through the House of Salvation, as it is the authority. Every temple within Sunagakure falls under the purview of the House of Salvation, and consequently within their authority. As a branch of Yuumegure, the House of Salvation preaches that the Sun is in fact the god and Creator of the universe, and that she has chosen Sunagakure as her projection of a perfect society which is why it is cast in her light. The House of Salvation preaches a trinity - the Sun is the Goddess who grants Light to the universe, the Light is both the Sun herself and a separate entity, and the Kazekage is the mortal embodiment of the Sun which is filled with her light and enacts her will. As such, many times The Sun, and Her Light are interchangeable, they are two parts of the same hole, and the Kazekage while a distinct body, is a subset of her capacity and desire.

As Sunagakure practices it’s own branch of Yuumegure, it is distinct in some ways from other branches found elsewhere in Wind Country and beyond. In particular, the House of Salvation also represents the medical arm of the Sunagakure military, and preaches that there are 3 skills that are granted to us by Her Light, and that true followers of Yuumegure practice one or all of these skills.
MedicineHerbalismPharmacy
The first skill, Medicine, is the practical ability to heal wounds. Within Yuumegure, the practice of iijutsu is considered to be very literally the creation of light to heal. The green hue of medical chakra is found within imagery and design of temples all throughout Sunagakure as a result of this. Practitioners of this branch often learn both iijutsu and practical medical techniques. Consequently, the vast majority of medical ninja within Sunagakure are followers of Yuumegure who were trained in medicine via the House of Salvation. The second skill, Herbalism, is the practice of growing plants for medical purposes. Herbalists have advanced knowledge of all sorts of plants, are skilled at growing them in even the harshest of conditions, and know how to use plants to treat many ailments. As plants grow and respond to light, Herbalists are seen as fostering growth under Her Light, and the belief is that Herbalists can help people grow in much the same way, directing and fostering growth for others. The Naegi clan has a particularly strong presence within the branch due to their affinity for plants. The third skill, Pharmacy, is the practice of combining natural ingredients in order to create solvents and solutions. This practice exclusively utilizes fire and directed light to heat the ingredients into their solution. Many novice followers of Yuumegure view Pharmacy as a mar on The Sun, but true followers knows that Apothics utilize Her Light to create their solvents and solutions, and that the use of these creations prevents the spilling of blood.
As a religious body, the House of Salvation has a hierarchy for all it’s members. It should be clear that all followers of Yuumegure within Sunagakure are not necessarily members of the House of Salvation. The House of Salvation is both a religious body and a military unit, and at the discretion of the Kazekage could be directly dispatched on military operations (though these are most often support missions such as providing medical relief after a natural disaster). This means that the vast majority of members of the House of Salvation are also shinobi, and even those who are not could potentially be expected to operate in tandem with shinobi as a part of their religious calling. This means the average merchant in Sunagakure who is a believer of Yuumegure follows the teachings of the House of Salvation, may regularly attend temple or even help in Temple, but they are not members of the organization.
House of Salvation HierarchyShow
- . - The Kazekage - . - At the top of the House of Salvation is the Kazekage. Believed to be the mortal embodiment of the Sun, the Kazekage’s rank within the House of Salvation is purely a religious one. The House of Salvation exists to serve at the Kazekage’s whim, and to provide guidance towards the doctrine of Yuumegure for the Kazekage. Every Kazekage must be approved by the House of Salvation, and there has never been a Kazekage who was not endorsed by the House of Salvation as a projection of the Sun. This does mean, however, that the Kazekage is not officially a member of the House of Salvation, and not being a member of the House of Salvation does not preclude eligibility for the position of Kazekage.
- . - The Brilliant, Radiant, and Luminescent - . - Directly under the Kazekage, and the practical leaders of the House of Salvation is a trinity of leaders. Meant to mirror the trinity of the Sun, these three leaders act as a single unit. Each is a master of one of the branches of the House of Salvation, and is widely considered to be the preeminent expert on that branch in the entire world, not just the House of Salvation.
  • The Brilliant leads the Medical Branch, making them one of the greatest medical ninja in the world. The Brilliant is also responsible for historical doctrine, and is expected to know (beyond his peers and other experts on Yuumegure) how doctrine has been interpreted by their predecessors in particular situations. As such, the Brilliant rarely offers unique opinions or guidance, but instead is expected to represent how decisions have been made historically and what has previously been considered permitted or allowable.
  • The Radiant leads the Herbal Branch, making them among the most expert in the world on plants and natural remedies. The Radiant is also responsible for sermon and word, and is often the most front-facing of the three. While Lucents may report to the Brilliant, Radiant, or Luminescent, virtually every Lucent has sat before a Radiant to ask guidance on how to better share Her Light. This means the Radiant also often has the most exposure to the whims and ways of the general people, and will represent the general public’s opinion in decisions around the House of Salvation.
  • The Luminescent leads the Pharmacy Branch, making them one of the most talented Apothics in the world. The Luminescent is also responsible for Shading, which is how followers of Yuumegure repent when they have diverted from the Doctrine. The Luminescent and Lucents who report to them interprets the doctrine and gives guidance on how one can bring themselves back to the Light (and ‘out of the shade’ hence the name). Many view the Luminescent’s role in knowing so many people’s sins and errors as why the Pharmacy Branch is generally viewed negatively. However, the Luminescent plays an incredibly important role in allowing people who have erred to return to the Light. The Luminescent often represents a strict interpretation of the doctrine in decision making.
No one of the three makes decision for the House of Salvation individually, but instead meet and discuss collectively and reach a decision that is then shared. The three grand temples in Sunagakure are each overseen by one of these three, and followers go to the Grand Temples for different needs generally. These positions are generally life long positions, and only when one dies is a new one selected from current Lucents.
- . - Lucents - . - The position of Lucent is the more accessible leaders within the House of Salvation. Each Lucent is in charge of an individual temple, and part of their responsibilities involves maintaining the temple, preaching the doctrine, and generally representing Her Light in their day-to-day. Each Lucent’s involvement in this process varies, however, as virtually every Lucent is also a shinobi and may have other duties and responsibilities. Lucents must be extremely skilled in at least one of the branches, though most are skilled in all three. Lucents are expected to be knowledgeable of the doctrine, second only to the Brilliant, Radiant and Luminescent. As each Lucent manages a temple, many of the temples are directed towards different parts of Yuumegure, and followers of Yuumegure will go to different temples based on their needs (such as Shading, guidance in their family, or feeling disconnected from Her Light). Oftentimes the temples also act as a operation center for the Lucent, so a Lucent who is in the Medical Branch may have a clinic attached to their temple, while a Herbalist Lucent’s temple may also be a greenhouse.
- . - Vivids - . - Mid-level members of the House of Salvation, Vivids work under a Lucent within a specific temple. Oftentimes, Vivids are either extremely knowledgeable of the doctrine, and are under a Lucent to learn their particular branch, or they are extremely knowledgeable on their branch, and have been assigned to a Lucent to learn the doctrine. Vivid’s assist in managing the temple, will occasionally meet with followers of Yuumegure who come for advice or guidance, will clean and maintain it, and do what their Lucent directs. It is not uncommon for a Vivid to be a Vivid purely because they are a casual follower of Yuumegure who joined the House of Salvation because they are a medical ninja. As such, becoming a Vivid is respected but not necessarily reflective of expertise on the Doctrine in the same way being a Lucent is.
- . - Prisms - . - Low and Entry level members of the House of Salvation, Prisms are new members who are still learning the doctrine, and often have not yet chosen a branch of the House of Salvation to follow. Prisms are expected to reflect Her Light (hence the name) and are primarily guided to help in spreading and representing the doctrine. It is extremely uncommon for a Prism to be attached to a specific temple, and instead often go to multiple temples to learn from as many Vivids and Lucents as they can to get full exposure to her Light and what the House of Salvation offers. Many Prisms are young genin who are interested in becoming medical ninja, or are members of Yuumegure who are seeking more opportunities to bask in Her Light.
