Ken/Ken Ken

[To aim for Perfection]

General Information Age: 28
Gender: Male
Height: 6'07"
Weight: 200 lbs
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Kenshi has a notably lean build, both on his face and body. His hair is soft compared to most samurai, and is described to be very beautiful. His skin is smooth and flawless, and his hair is kept well combed and trimmed, always held in a tied pony tail that rests on his back. Said hair is a pale blonde in color, with most describing it as if his hair wasn't naturally colored blonde. The most notable feature of him however are his eyes, which are described as being as if they were filled with silver lightning that arched around his iris in an extravagant dance.
  • Body: Kenshi's body is notably lean, the muscles clinging tightly to his form rather than bulging out from it. His skin, just like the skin on his face is flawless, with the exception of scars on the sides of his torso. His arms are notably well cared for, a fact that makes many people assume his grip is too weak to properly hold a weapon, in spite of his build. Of course this all comes from vigorous grooming, causing his own shine of what seems to be a luxury lifestyle to mask his build.
  • Notable Features: Has four pins in his hair, and a wooden badge. Ears are pointed. Notably clean.
Clothing/Accessories: Kenshi always dresses lightly. Though the outfit may change, he is usually wearing mesh armor underneath some baggy robe. This allows him to move and breathe with no restriction, but still keep him decent and offer at least some amount of protection. He does have a few random items on him, these being four pins that hold his pony tail together, a wooden badge with a crude drawing of a rose, and a ring he has embedded in his prosthetic arm. On his feet he wears Geta at all times.
Personality:
  • General: Kenshi is a perfectionist pure and simple. Be it in the condition of his body, the cleanliness of his being, or the form of his attacks, Kenshi will not rest till they are perfected. This also includes any goals given to him. Failure is not an option. If an obstacle is met, he must go around them or break through them, they can not stop him. If he fails at something, then he will continue to replicate the events in some way until he can succeed. At that point it is not longer a failure, but an obstacle, and Kenshi is able to move on. This of course means proper maintenance of his body, mind, and weapon. Everyday he will either be working to improve his body, or letting it rest and heal. Everyday his weapon will be cleaned and kept in peak condition, and then off to clean himself. Even forgetting to wash his hair once is a big no, and stopping half way through for any reason is piratically sacrilege.

    While Kenshi holds himself to such perfectionist requirements, he does not expect anyone else to hold themselves to this requirements as well. His reasoning for this is simple: they aren't him, so he doesn't know if they could, or why they would. While the reasoning for this self centered perfectionist is kept to himself, it has to do with knowledge of his own weakness. Kenshi has made mistakes in the past, and as to prevent such mistakes from happening again, Kenshi holds himself to a strict guideline that has become his obsession. In his mind, to slack in even the smallest of the rules means he is willing to let a small amount of temptation rule him, which could then grow to corrupt him and cause him to loose his way.

    Kenshi has a pride issue, a fact that he doesn't see as a flaw, merely stating it as fact. He does not see himself as above others, or that he is stronger than anyone else, but more so that people who are weaker than him have very little chance of winning against him, and that those stronger than him will eventually be toppled by him when his potential surpasses them. This mostly manifests when someone shows him disrespect. While he won't confront antagonizers who are merely looking for a fight, anyone who simply writes him off as normal or means to purposefully slander his name with purpose other than starting a fight, he will not take it lying down. Whether you simply bumped into him and kept walking, accidentally kicked dirt in his direction while on a horse, or you go as far to accuse him of a crime he did not commit, he will start a fight right there, which shall take place one on one if the other seeks to prove themselves right. Regardless of this, he is generally pleasant when meeting anyone, seeing being anything but kind when he has no reason to hate someone as being impure.

    Kenshi while Kenshi has multiple gifts that he holds closely, he holds non closer than his his bo staff. This bo staff was given to him by his father four years ago, and as the only gift he still possesses of his father he refuses to ever not have it on his person. It has also been in his family for generations, making it an heirloom he can't risk being lost or held by anyone other than the person he names his child. Kenshi carries many other gifts on his person almost all the time, and though he does not care for them to the degree of his bo staff, he none the less will refuse to let these gifts be damaged in combat.
  • Hopes/Dreams: To perfect his fighting style, to discover the secret of his family heirloom.
  • Fears: That he may die before he finds out the secret to his family heirloom, or fails to have a child to pass it onto (be them adopted or biological)
  • Combat Mentality: In combat, Kenshi remains calm and follows a style of dodge and counter. In combat he does his best to keep his mind clear and focused, and to act on information as he absorbs it. His actual way of combat is simple, dodge and attack before the opponent has time to real back from their own attack. Of course being trained in Martial Arts and the use of the Bo Staff, Kenshi specializes in close to mid range combat. Blocking with his bo and then striking with either his legs or staff are his preferred way to fight.

Kenpachi Bo StaffShow
The Kenpachi Bo Staff is a Bo Staff (length: 2m 10.82cm) that has been passed down the Kenpachi Family Line for generations. The Bo Staff had a spirit sealed inside of it tens of generations ago, causing the ironwood staff has been covered in Silver markings that spread across the staff like veins of ore.
The staff doesn't have any special abilities at the moment, and is normal other than its strange appearance.
The staff's spirit cannot interact with the world without Chakra, which Kenshi can currently not use. Staff is usually in his hand but can be put in a holster on his back. The staff itself is well made, and extremely dense compared to most bo staffs. This is not because of the spirit, but merely because of the fine craftsmanship.
Food Supplies (a plate, a bowl, a spoon, a fork, and a knife, kept in pouch that is slung on his hip), and water pouch. Wooden badge with the emblem of a blade covered in a thorny vine is kept over his right chest, which has a large slanted cut scarred on it. He also has four long hair pins in his hair.

Abilities
Bat Physiology An ability from his mother's side of the family. His ears are notably pointed compared to normal humans, although they are the same size as normal human ears. Through this not only can can Kenshi hear farther than humans and hear higher pitched noises, but it allows him to use echo location. Thus fighting in areas where Kenshi cann't see doesn't effect him so long as he can make noise. The range of which he can hear and make out these details is equal to his Instinct/2m with a loss of detail outside of this range. Additionally when using this to sense what his eyes cann't see, he cannot make out details like color and writing (unless it was engraved or burned in), and unless someone is within half his current range, he cannot make out what they are actually saying. Of course, this relies on noise to use, so if one were to silence themselves or somehow block off Kenshi's ability to process sound, this ability would be useless. This is done the same way as a bat does, cartilage absorbing even the tiniest of echos from noises, and sending it to a special organ in the ears that all echo location using animals possess. After which the sound is quickly turned into nerve impulses, and processed by the brain to make a textured map. Unfortunately this means his ears are sensitive, so loud noises can effect him easily.
Companion Master This character specializes in the organization of others, and has committed part of their time in coordinating themselves with pets, spirits, or henchmen in combat. This gives the user of this ability four[4] companions, each companion is separate from the other and can be any type of companion. There is no limit to ranks for companions.

Kushou-Ryu SoujutsuShow
Kushou:
Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu, or spear techniques, are a collection of Taijutsu techniques focussed around the use of polearms. The techniques can be used interchangeably for users of spears, staves, glaives and similar weapons. These techniques were developed by the military of the Holy City of Towers, rumoured to have been passed from the Holy Mother herself to the males of her land centuries ago. Those who wish to learn the secret techniques of the style must travel there and convince them to teach them. The style itself revolves around keeping the user’s weapon and body moving in order to manoeuvre around an opponent’s guard, or beat their way through it. Requires: [Polearm Weapons], [Deft Hands], [Lower Body]
* Kushou・The Viper Flicks its Tongue
D-Ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
This simple technique involves thrusting quickly with the user’s long weapon from a distance before quickly pulling back their polearm to prevent counters. This techniques most useful aspect is that it can be used while in motion without affecting speed or momentum.

* Kushou・The Courtier Taps his Fan
D-Ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
This simple technique involves proper use of the pole of the user’s weapon to deflect blows. By properly angling and manoeuvring their spear or staff they can deflect other like weapons, hand to hand blows or even sword blows by striking the right place at the right time, even while in motion.

* Kushou・Parting the Silk
D-Ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
Prerequisite: * Kushou・Low Wind Rising
This simple technique involves engaging an opponent’s weapon or one of their arms and moving it slightly to one side with the user’s weapon. This creates a very small opening which the user then exploits by kicking the opponent, keeping their weapon guarding the opponent’s arms.

* Kushou・Low Wind Rising
D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
The foundational stance of the Kushou style, Low Wind Rising involves the spinning of the user’s spear or polearm around their body constantly whilst remaining in motion. While in this stance, the user will be able to deflect projectiles with less strength than their own, while also making unpredictable movements of their spear.

* Kushou・The Swallow Takes Flight
D-Ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
The user will vault themselves into the air using their polearm and then unleash a powerful blow from above. This technique is used to disorient and surprise foes as well as overpower them as it strikes with all of the user’s body weight and momentum from the spin they perform in the air in order to strike with the spear that was touching the ground moments before.

Kushou・Diving Upon the Prey
D-Ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
The user uses their pole arm to trip their opponent, be it by kick their opponent back while their weapon is behind their legs, or doing a sweeping motion with the weapon. While the opponent is falling, with the exception of exceedingly heavy enemies, the user can get off attacks equal to half theirs speed stat.

* Kushou・Twisting the Wind
C-Ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
Prerequisite: * Kushou・Low Wind Rising
This is the core technique of the Kushou Style. The user will begin in the Low Wind Rising stance and then approaches their opponent. They will begin with a wide arcing blow to begin this combination of blows. Following this they will spin their polearm and their body as they follow their opponent across the battlefield, chasing them down as they block and evade. This technique takes the user’s entire post, and can strike a number of times equal to half their speed. Those who block more than one blow will suffer a -3 to Taijutsu for 3 posts as the weapon’s momentum and force jars their body.

* Kushou・Bundling Straw
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: 15 Instinct
This technique is a kind of mental preparation for the constant movement and spinning involved in the Kushou style. This enables the user to gather snippets of vision, sounds and tactile sensory information in order to be properly aware of the battlefield around them whether standing still or in rapid circular motion. The user is effectively aware of their surroundings within Instinct/3m of their person, able to recognise when attacks are coming and the body positions of opponents.

* Kushou・Unfolding the Fan
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
While rare for a practitioner of Kushou-ryu to be on the defensive, this technique is designed to facilitate effective defence against other close ranged opponents. The user of this technique is constantly aware of distancing between the opponent and themselves, and therefore will aim all of their strikes to prevent the opponent from closing the gap using their long weapon. This will make it extremely difficult for those with less Taijutsu than them to get close to the user safely without somehow neutralising the user’s weapon.

* Kushou・Watered Silk
B-Ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
The user of this technique will strike the ground with one end of their weapon hard, dragging it in a line. This will fling a cloud of dirt, rock and dust up into their opponent’s eyes as if the user had thrown it. The use of one end of their weapon in this enables the immediate return of the opposite end for a follow up strike at either a blinded opponent or an opponent that is quite predictably dodging the debris.

* Kushou・Threading the Needle
B-Ranked Taijutsu Manoeuvre
After either blocking an opponent’s strike or having one of their strikes blocked, the user will flick their weapon. Using their great leverage and range to their advantage, the user is able to skilfully dart their weapon around the opponent’s existing guard for a quick thrust at their opponent providing their Taijutsu is greater than the opponent’s.
Skitter Step StyleShow
Skitter Step:
Skitter Step
The Skitter Step is a style that relies heavily on the user's senses. The style itself is a mesh of quick, fast, and wild punches, kicks, and jumps. Due to the user altering their senses, every bit of movement is heard and, since they can start to respond to things instinctively, they can respond to things that normally wouldn't have been able to be heard/seen/done. In addition to the heightened senses, users are normally in a "paranoid" state, where they start to suspect things that aren't always there.

If overused, the style can lead to paranoia in individuals, along with constant fidgeting, making experts in the style quite well known for these activities.
  • Requires: [Acrobatics] and [Perception]
  • Requires *[Skitter Step • Senses Open] prerequisite to learn any other jutsu.
  • Requires Taijutsu Specialization to make custom techniques.
*[Skitter Step • Stop]
E-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
Prerequisite: Any form of Senses Open used.
The user will make a fist with their right hand, and place it against their palm with their left hand, against their chest. This calms the users senses and returns them to a centered state.

*[Skitter Step • Back Jab]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
After using any form of "Senses Open" when the user hears motions behind them, they'll instinctively kick a foot back behind them to strike whatever the source of the sound was.

*[Skitter Step • Outside Dodge]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
The counter Discipline to Inside Dodge. Having mastered this Discipline, when the user is actively using Skitter Step, should they be in close quarters combat, their body instinctively dodges to the outside of an attack which forces them to be constantly moving around their opponent. These dodges are only successful if their average [Tai+Instinct+Speed /3] is greater than the speed of the attack.

*[Skitter Step • Reject]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
The counter discipline to Accept. When faced with an extended limb, may it be an arm or leg, a master of this discipline will always bat at the extended limb with full force, typically aiming for the joint of the limb in order to cause it to collapse.

*[Skitter Step • Senses Open]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
The main jutsu of the Skitter Step, Senses Open does exactly what the name states. The user takes a moment to focus their bodies, then releases it. While in this stance, the users sensory input is increased, allowing them to receive more information quickly. This causes a +2 in Taijutsu, and a +4 in speed, but a -3 in Ninjutsu and -3 in Control. This stance will remain in effect until deactivated by [Stop]. Practioners of this technique will find themselves fidgetting and constantly moving, which can make it difficult for them to use this style while on stealth missions.

*[Skitter Step • Instinctive Draw]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
Should a user learn this Discipline, any time a projectile is launched at them is picked up by their senses, the user will instictively draw their a weapon of their own and bat at the weapon to knock it away. If their average [Tai+Instinct+Speed /3] is greater than the speed of the projectile, they'll succeed.

*[Skitter Step • Snap Kick]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
The user performs a quick snap kick forwards, or, if needed, a snap kick to either side by bringing their leg up and kicking outwards. If "Senses Open" was previously used, the user is able to quickly and instinctively kick out in about any direction and even able to do a turn on their heel, then kick what was behind them.

*[Skitter Step • Roll]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
Masters of this discipline are recognize the importance of evasion, and have trained their bodies to roll naturally. When faced with an attack from the chest up, that cannot be deflected, the user will naturally drop their body into a roll and roll to the right or left, which ever grants the user better positioning. This dodging technique only works if the users [Taijutsu+Instinct+Speed/3] is greater than the speed of the attack.

[Skitter Step • Punishment]
B-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used, Inside Dodge or Outside Dodge, Concentration with the category used weapon falls under

Punishment is a variant of Counter Strike, done with a weapon in hand. Like its hand to hand counterpart, the Discipline focuses on teaching the body to automatically strike after dodging. Whenever Inside dodge or Outside Dodge are activated, the user will instinctively strike as they dodge, moving whatever weapon is held in their hand into the openings created by the dodge to deal damage.

*[Skitter Step • Aerial Dance]
B-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
Masters of this Discipline have taught their body to function, always, regardless of position. This means that even while in the air the user is able to functionally react with any disciplines they've trained, so long as they don't require footing.

History
Historical AccountsShow
Long ago, an unknown man with the last name of Kenpachi left Holy City of Towers, deciding to travel the world to try and combine one of the other's worlds many fighting styles with his City's own Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu. This man would leave with only a bo staff and his mastery of Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu. As he traveled, he eventually went on to discover chakra and how to utilize it, being able to imbue the staff with wind to allow it to slice enemies. He would go on to combine Bone Breaker Style with his Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu, creating a fast passed and extremely crippling style of combat.

He would go on to have a son, and teach him this style, and then that son would teach his son the same style, and so on. This would continue for generations as the staff was passed down from father to son, or father to daughter in some cases. Regardless, the name Kenpachi always remained, and for some reason the current holder of the staff never made more than one child. However, after several generations, one child Kenpachi Ken'ichi refused to combine Bone Breaker Style with Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu. Still claiming the staff, he would proclaim that with ninjutsu used in tandem with the staff and Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu, he could create an even more powerful variant. His father, simply named Kenpachi Kenji told his son that if he wished to prove it, Ken'ichi would have to create that same technique and then defeat Kenji with it, killing him. Excepting, Ken'ichi would leave to study elemental ninjutsu, learning to combine the elements with his attacks. After a year he would return to fight his father, resulting in a devastating battle.

The battle would be devastating, with Ken'ichi being noted to laying time bombs whenever the staff touched something, remotely control it and give it an invisible blade, paralyze the limbs of Kenji when he struck them, and even harden the staff to the point where it was unable to break. After impaling his father through the chest with a fuuton imbued staff, Ken'ichi went on to have his own family, considering his newest style to be the strongest. However, this claim would be the thing that would lead to his demise, as Ken'ichi's son Kenpachi Kenta claimed he could improve the style without having to throw away his chakra to damage his enemy.

History would repeat itself as when Kenta's puberty ended, he claimed the staff and added two hidden blades to each end, and went on to combine Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu with Iaido and Yoshin styles. During this time he would settle down and gain a family of his own, even having a son. Combining the speed from Iaido, the precision of Yoshin, and the aggressiveness of the dual bladed style, Kenta would return to fight his father to the death in staff to staff combat. The battle would end quickly, with Kenta striking to fast for Ken'ichi to have time to utilize hand signs, only able to use doton to increase the durability of his staff. Ken'ichi however had the better made weapon, ultimately breaking Ken'ichi's staff and declaring himself victor after slashing his father's throat. After this, Kenta taught his son Kenpachi Kenji to never let his pride in his abilities end up forcing him to kill a loved one, or vice versa. However, he also told Kenji to make sure he made his own fighting style, and not to copy his father or his ancestors, and that he should teach his son the same.

Kenji would go on to obtain the Kenpachi staff from his father, deciding to utilize Fuinjutsu along side it, using his staff as a medium. With his speed and ferocity, he was able to place multiple seals on a target with in the first few seconds of battle. Kenji would travel as a mercenary, taking care of local problems that were too far away from ninja villages for actual shinobi to take care of them. During one such mission, he was tasked with killing a spirit that had been terrorizing local farms. Instead however, Kenji would seal the spirit into the staff itself, much to the anger of the locals who wanted it dead. However, in doing so Kenji was forced to put much of his life force into making the seal, shortening his life span greatly.

Kenji would immediately settle down with a woman named Kurotsuchi Asami, a traveling mercenary who had been on several missions with Kenji before. After both growing tired of spending their whole lives moving from town to town looking hoping they had a job for them, they both decided to live in the very village they saved,
working as farmers to supply food for their nation. Kenji and her would originally only enter this as partner,
but quickly grow into a much closer relationship with Asami being the passionate one and Kenji as the grounded one. Eventually the two would marry and have a child by the name of Kenpachi Kenshi.

Kenshi's life before leaving was exhausting. He was the youngest one on the farm, so there for most of the work fell to him. He however never had a problem with the workload, to him it was the bonus training, along side the martial arts training from his father. Everyday after the chores were done and Kenshi was given time to rest, his father would take him into the barn to train. For a week he taught him the basics of hand to hand combat, how to properly make a fist, what stances to take, how to move his legs when he needed to kick, even how to properly fall. Once Kenshi was ten years old, Kenshi was given a training staff, and every growth spurt this staff would need to be changed out for a new one. Kenshi's training would become much more complex at this point, incorporating his hand to hand combat with the staff in his hands.

Kenshi of course didn't spend all his time on the farm, his parents knowing his body needed time to rest, lest it tear itself a part. Twice every week he would only practice rather than fully train, and once every week he would be given a whole day off to do what he wanted. Almost every chance he got, Kenshi would spend time with his close friend Akio. As children the two would always explore the local area and go on what they considered grand adventures, and as teenagers Kenshi would both spend time competing to see whether Kenshi's Martial Arts or Akio's swordplay were better, only to stop half way and congratulate each other.

At Eighteen Akio and Kenshi would both reach the end of their puberty, with Akio completely finishing his sword training and Kenshi finally being given his father's staff. Akio would also be rewarded with the most powerful swordplay technique of his style, while Kenshi would be given permission to go into the world and find another style to combine with Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu, as well as told that the family staff was not only his own to customize, but that it held a secret within, one he'd have to discover for himself. Kenshi however chose to stay in the village, as he had too much here he cared for.

The night following these great days, they would both celebrate in the form of a massive party, only to wake up the next day with massive hang over. The next day Akio would inform Kenshi of his future wife: Mayumi as well as give his friend a wooden emblem with his family's crest on it, claiming Kenshi as his brother. Kenshi would wholeheartedly except the emblem, also unofficially adopting Akio as his brother, neither knowing that the first of Akio's announcements would eventually lead to the two becoming enemies.

It wasn't until weeks later that Kenshi would meet Mayumi, and when he did he could on describe her as the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. He was absolutely obsessed with her, despite the fact that she was taken, and by his best friend no less. Kenshi however was filled with passion, he didn't care who had her hand, he wanted her heart. Luckily for him, Mayumi felt the same way as him, finding herself attracted to him. Whenever he got that one day off at the farm, or when Akio was too busy to socialize, him and Mayumi would sneak off to spend time together, no matter how secluded they had to be. During one rendezvous, Akio would gift him with four hair pins, which she used to keep Kenshi's hair in a ponytail, a look she described as good for him.

They would continue this affair for months, until one of the teenagers of the village called him out on the affair. When asked for proof, the teenager would claim that his eyes were the proof, as he had seen them together in Kenshi's own fields, doing things no mere 'friends' would do. As he had no proof other than his word, the village merely brushed the boy on, dismissing his claims as mere rumors. This however didn't stop rumors from spreading. Like wildfire the rumors would spread and Kenshi, Mayumi, and Akio would deny them all.

During this time Akio would, unknown to Kenshi and Mayumi, slowly begin to suspect the two of possibly being guilty of the crimes the rumors claimed. Each time however, no matter how many accused them, he would dismiss it, blinded by his love for his wife and the bond with his best friend. Mayumi on the other hand would grow stressed, seeing the tension she was creating between her husband and lover, while Kenshi would begin to question if his love was worth it. Each time however their love and lust would pull them together, until the day they were caught by most of the town.

A new family had moved into the village, ones who looked down upon any forms of impurity. After hearing for months these rumors of adultery, the family would have most of the town wait in the field to see if the two would visit each other there. If they didn't come to each other that day, then they were rumors, if they did, then the rumors had to be true. Unfortunately, the two did rendezvous there, caught by the almost the entire town in the act. When Akio discovered this, his resolve cracked, he had no choice but to see the truth now, the betrayal made even worse by the fact that noone had dared commit adultery before, let alone on the wife of their best friend.

As per the traditions of the town itself, Kenshi had to pay the price in the form of pain. Akio had the choice to beat Kenshi until he was satisfied, something a wounded Akio had no issue doing. In these punishments, there was only one rule: do not kill the offender. Akio had cut, slashed, and impaled Kenshi for almost hours, with medical experts cleaning and treating the wounds. However, for Akio it wasn't enough, Kenshi had to die. He rounded up a group of his own men, setting towards the jail to kill Kenshi. However, the village would not allow this, the Kenpachi's farm made more food than any other, and Kenji was far too old to do the work necessary to keep up those crops, they needed Kenji to keep up the village's economy. The local Samurai fought with Akio and his men, who managed to round more to their side, using the fact that Kenshi was not only the first offender, but seemingly didn't care for the feelings of the person he had the closest bond with when it came to his own whims.

This lead into a riot against the Samurai, one that lead to the death of all able bodied citizens in the village. The only ones who remained by the end were the children and the elderly. The only survivors of the riots were Akio, who was labeled a criminal, and Mayumi who had fled in guilt of the trouble she blamed on herself. As the offender had fled and was now a criminal, Kenshi was pardoned, and allowed to return to his job as farmer. Instead however, Kenshi left the village.

Depressed, guilty, enraged, Kenshi began to wander aimlessly for two whole years. During this time he was nothing but a bum, scraping to get by and often living on the streets whilst resorting to robbery and intimidation to get what he needed. It wouldn't be until he met another user of Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu, who proceeded to beat Kenshi into the ground for trying to rob an couple with their child present. After beating Kenshi till he couldn't move anymore, the Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu user took him away to his own home. Questioning why Kenshi, a user of Kushou-Ryu Soujutsu was using his skills for crime, Kenshi refused to answer the man. The man would declare that his reasons did not matter either way, and that from then on, he would show Kenshi the proper way to act.

For a year the man, revealing himself as Kejaro Hiryu, would train Kenshi, not in any fighting style, but in the art of bettering one's self. He would mold Kenshi into the man he is today, one who strives for perfection in all things he does. Everyday the man would keep Kenshi in top physical shape, as well as make him work around the man's home, installing a renewed discipline in him. He would also train the boy with the exact morals he has today. After a year, he would give the boy permission to leave, having finally made him into a real man.

Before he left however, Kenshi asked to be taught the way the man fought, a notably aggressive and fast way of using the bo staff, which also kept his mobile. For three years the man would teach Kenshi the use of Skitter Step, a mostly reflexive style. During this time, Kenshi met another student of Hiryu, a man named Kotaru Jō. The two would train together, Jō managing to retake the role as Kenshi's closest friend. After the three years, Kenshi and Jō left their master to explore the world and train further. They both decided to work together as mercenaries and now look for their first job.
