Namikawa, Seijūrō
"Humility and kindness will cure the world's blindness."

General Information Age: 17

Gender: Male

Height: 6'0''

Weight: 157 Lbs

Physical Description: Seijūrō is a tall, husky boy with a clumsy demeanor. His face is sunk by the dull-brown eyes of a dead fish. Angular and with the hint of baby fat on the cheeks, it is marked by a small, colorless mole over the right eyelid. His lips are rubescent and fleshy, hiding a set of lined but sharp, feral teeth. Framed by oily black hair that reaches to his sharp jaw, he could be described with the vulgar, thuggish look common to those raised in harsh coastlines.
When paying enough attention, it's possible to spot calluses on his fingers and palms, as well as several small scars along the forearms. These are marks of his life not just as a doctor's apprentice and craftsman, but as a fisherman as well.

Clothing/Accessories: Used to the fleeting moods of nature, Seijūrō's choices of clothing reflect the necessity of adapting to all extremes.
For frigid, rainy weather, he opts for a hooded leather coat made of sealskin. If the air dries up but maintains a gelid temperature, this is replaced with his pelican feather coat. Regardless of either choice, he wears a fishskin tunic on the inside, an old pair of sharkskin pants and scaled boots made with the skin of a crocodile, as well as a whale bone amulet around his neck.
When challenged by hot weather and blazing suns, Seijūrō dons these last three along with a long dry-grass scarf to shield his head.

Personality:
  • General: Seijūrō could be plainly defined as simple salt-of-the-earth with a playful side and a warm heart. Diligent, curious and hard-working, his outlook on effort and investment to achieve one's goals is representative of his upbringing in a harsh floating village. He believes there are no shortcuts in life and that everything is paid for in blood, sweat, and tears.
Despite his mature perspective on discipline, he's still very much a teenager. Mischievious and the prankster type, Seijūrō can't help but goof around at times that he probably shouldn't. Regardless, he can be remarkably perceptive of other's emotions at times.
At his core, this young village boy is nothing but a ball of kindness and compassion. He thrives on socializing, with a burning need to congregate and bond with others. He cannot stand isolation and as such seeks out cradles of activity in any country he travels through. Seijūrō is not only intolerant of social rejection, but he is also pained when perceiving suffering in others. While honorable qualities, they render him quite naive at times.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Seijūrō seeks to discover each corner of the world and forge bonds across every land. He wants to hone his understanding of the human body and its workings to the absolute maximum.
At his most ambitious, he envisions himself returning to the village as both a leader and a legend, ready to turn it into one of the greatest settlements in the world.
  • Fears: As an inexperienced pilgrim with little knowledge of other lands, he carries a fear of unknown dangers to his body and mind. Even though confident, he fears his travels will turn out a colossal waste of time and resources. Finally, he is terrified of being unable to help those with a physical ailment, as it would mean failure in his vital purpose of choice.
  • Combat Mentality: Despite being used to harsh conditions, Seijūrō hasn't been threatened by anything other than marine predators. As such the closest he's developed to a combat mentality is common street-fighting and fishing.
Large but inexperienced, he would trade blows employing his rudimentary knowledge of anatomy, resorting to his knife if in danger.

History
Historical AccountsShow
Seijūrō was born into the opening arms of a small community in a harsh but prosperous floating village on the coast of the Land of Sharks. With young, caring parents and more "family" than one can shake a stick at to watch over him, he came into the world loved and welcomed.

He was raised as all children are in his country. As soon as his tiny hands could handle a knife, he was put to work. Tanning leather, scaling fish, made to pull his own weight in various ways. Despite every kind of work being distributed equally, each family specialized in a certain skill. Youngsters were generally passed around through several apprenticeships to round out their abilities. This also ensured they would forge mighty bonds with everyone else. Enmity and indifference weren't taboo in the settlement; they were simply abstract and incomprehensible. Everyone is tied, everyone is understood.

By the age of 7, Seijūrō and his childhood companions were not only hunting, but competing to see who could drag the most groupers back home. Average in build, though surprisingly nimble and quick-witted, he was the designated planner for all their pranks. Already under his belt were the "Spiked Fish Soup" that granted everyone a nice headache the day after, as well as the (in) famous "Sticky Undergarments" incident. As a reward for their creativity and enterprising attitude, every child was granted the honorable position of playing bait in the following week's shark hunts.

It was only two months after his thirteenth birth celebration that he revealed the propensity for something greater. On one of many "coming-of-age" challenges the young adolescents dared each other with, the brilliant idea of antagonizing a Komodo dragon came to mind. In a sudden lashing out, the beast's jaws clamped down on the leg of Seijūrō's best friend. The adrenaline rush that struck those that were unscathed wasn't enough to force them into action. The shrill screams of fear and agony mixing with the savage thrashing about of the aggressor produced a poisonous atmosphere of paralysis. With instinctive response and a pale application of the medicinal practice he was used to witnessing in his parents, he tended to Kazuo's wounds. Eventually, they reached the safety of the village, where the boy received further treatment. Thanks to Seijūrō's first aid, the leg was saved, if permanently left with a limp.

After this incident, the young lad found himself under the tutorship of his parents, in line to become the next generation of healers. Throughout the following 4 years, he was taught how to perform basic diagnostics and quick-fixes, a skill that came into practice several times. He had nevertheless much to learn before reaching his parents' level of experience, and yet there wasn't much they could teach him. Ambitious, curious and eager to see what the world has to offer, Seijūrō set out on a journey of learning and self-discovery. With the desire to return and help those that bid him a warm farewell, he faces the future with a daring smile.
