Tiera, Miyuki
Birth Name: Toshikane, Miyuki
Nickname: Miki

[Where the winds guide me...]

General Information Age: 22
Gender: Female
Height: 6'
Weight: 143 lbs

Physical Features:
  • Face/head: When it comes to her facial features, Miyuki is fairly androgynous though leaning towards feminine, her skin being pale but soft and her blue-green eyes being almost cat-like in appearance and surrounded by fairly thick lashes. Her hair is also a very light brown, seeming to at times have a silver sheen and hanging down to her mid-back, it most often being found tied into a braid.
  • Body: Underneath her thick robes, Miyuki's body is nicely toned and distinctly feminine with willowy curves and an ample bosom that she attempts to keep under wraps, this being accompanied by fairly wide hips and long, well muscled legs. She also has a variety of bruises and scars all over her body,
  • Notable Features:----
Clothing/Accessories: Miyuki's primary outfits consist of thick robes and kimonos meant to hide her form while still allowing for ease of movement, along with a pair of knee high boots. Along with this is a pendant engraved with the toshikane family crest, given to her by her mother when she was very young, worn underneath her clothes at near all times to keep it out of sight as she had been told to do.

Personality:
  • General: Miyuki is typically calm and quiet, rarely raising her voice and not really speaking unless she's spoken to first or it's required of her, and even then rarely for an extended period of time. Whether intentionally or not she usually comes off as a bit aloof or detached from reality, often being found staring off into space or in some kind of meditative state. Additionally she's friendly, loyal, and honest to a fault, never betraying those who have gained her trust, always doing whatever she can to pay off her debts, and helping those in need without asking for anything in return. With that said though, if a reward for her services were to be offered she would never refuse, especially if it were to include a night at an inn and/or a soak in a nice hot spring.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Miyuki 's only dream right now is to find a dream, to find a purpose worth living for
  • Fears: Miyuki's main fear is that of death itself, to die before her time. Also she quite embarrassingly has a slight fear of dark, cramped places
  • Combat Mentality:Despite her overall demeanor, Miyuki is very much an 'in your face' type fighter, using a mix of swordplay and hand to hand combat to trip up her foes and possibly leave them confused and unsuspecting as to what could come next.

ToryuShow
Toryu, a style of Kenjutsu founded in the Land of Pebbles, melds traditional kenjutsu swordplay with subversive feints and sudden bursts of close quarters combat, two unyielding hills crashing together to form a mountain. Toryu typically favors use of the blade with one hand, utilizing the freedom of movement to use one's hands, joints, legs, head, and even the hilt and handle of the sword to make an already deadly style more unpredictable and more lethal. Ignorantly considered a very "unrefined" style by most practitioners of the sword, Toryu is actually one of the most difficult styles of Kenjutsu to learn and master. The very basic premise of the style revolves around the firm control and manipulation of one's own movements and body, some techniques requiring execution while using another attack as a feint or misdirection while not sacrificing strength. The style has no weapon requirements outside of a sword, but many users often prefer kodachi, wakizashi, ninjato, or even tanto, the reduced size and weight of the blades having fewer blindspots and making the user's weapon more mobile.

Requires: [Close Quarters Combat], [Sword Weapons] Concentrations.
D-Ranked

*[Toryu • Skipping Stone]
D-Rank Taijutsu Stance
The signature Stance of Toryu, practitioners relax the muscles in their bodies, gaining additional flexibility in their movements in how they approach the enemy, how they retreat, how they evade attacks, and how they attack the opponent. This Stance allows the practitioner to more easily read opponent's attacks and defend against them by evading in unusual ways, such as ducking, bending around, and quickly sidestepping attacks without needlessly exposing themselves to additional attacks. This fleet-footed Stance lets the practitioner mix up their movements to confuse and misdirect the opponent, allowing them to attack lesser-known openings in the opponent's guard. It also allows the practitioner to rapidly and reflexively change the angle, position and grip of their weapon with minimal movement, allowing them multiple manners in which they can attack the opponent or defend against attacks.

*[Toryu • Ambidexterity]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
After practicing for a long amount of time with the concept of using both of their hands with equal skill, the user has developed a level of ambidexterity that allows them to utilize both hands equally and as effectively without any penalty. This extends to other methods of combat or simple everyday life as well.

*[Toryu • Cobblestone Skeleton]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
A practitioner of Toryu is capable of attacking with every part of their body, even their heads. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity and experience with executing palm strikes, heel strikes, knee strikes, elbow strikes, and headbutts/skull bashes just as effectively as regular punches, kicks, and sword strikes. This Discipline allows the practitioner to consistently execute these kinds of attacks while minimizing or eliminating openings in their defenses or shock/damage they would experience while using these kinds of strikes.

*[Toryu • Falling Stone]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Moving in to launch either an unarmed attack or an attack with their blade, the practitioner will launch a simultaneous unarmed attack or weapon attack with their other hand, bringing their fist or the pommel/butt of their weapon to slam into the opponent's guard, targeting their hands or wrists. Opponents with an Acrobatics technique of equal or higher rank than this technique can resist being disarmed. Otherwise, the practitioner slams the opponent's guard aside, potentially allowing the original attack to strike the opponent directly.

*[Toryu • Sundering Gravel]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength.
Designed as a counterattack but also a potent attack by itself, the practitioner will first wait to block or parry an opponent's attack with their weapon. Then, the practitioner will quickly counter with a swift knee strike to the opponent's stomach or diaphragm to stun them or cause them to stagger by winding them, followed by a quick slash or stab to their chest or stomach. The practitioner may choose to use this as an attack instead by immediately leading off with the knee strike if they so wish. Opponents with equal or higher Endurance than the practitioner's Strength can resist being winded.

C-Ranked

*[Toryu • Lethal Familiarity]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Many of the Toryu techniques would put the user in incredibly daring positions where a single mistake could instantly spell disaster for the swordsman. As a result, Toryu practitioners must train themselves constantly to avoid letting their fears distract them from their task. A practitioner with this technique has learned to shut out fear in the heat of combat, allowing them to perform attacks and techniques without the risk of failure due to fear responses.

*[Toryu • Spite Breaker]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
An unorthodox use of swordsmanship, the practitioner rushes the opponent and leaps at them, attempting to land on their shoulders. Should the practitioner succeed, they will forcefully shift their weight onto the opponent's shoulders, potentially unbalancing them. Opponents with an Acrobatic technique of an equal or higher rank than this technique can resist having their guard be disrupted. Otherwise, the opponent will be suddenly thrown off balance, leaving their head, neck, or torso exposed for the practitioner to attack with their sword.

*[Toryu • Misery Drop]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Strength.
A variant of the Spite Breaker, the practitioner rushes the opponent and leaps at them, spinning and attempting to land on their shoulders, clinching their legs around the opponent's neck. Should the practitioner succeed, they will forcefully shift all of their weight back, potentially unbalancing the opponent. Opponents with an Acrobatics technique of equal or higher rank than this technique can resist having their guard be disrupted. Otherwise, the opponent will be suddenly thrown back and flipped down before slamming face-first into the ground. The practitioner can roll up onto the opponent's back with this motion, offering a clean stab down into the back of the opponent's skull to finish them off.

*[Toryu • Grave Digger]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Strength.
Rushing in towards the opponent either as a charging attack or after evading an opponent's attack, the practitioner starts with their arms crossed in front of their chests before quickly sweeping their elbows up over their heads, the flat of the practitioner's front-most elbow potentially striking the opponent under their chin. While this elbow strike can cause considerable damage by itself, the purpose of the elbow strike is to cause the opponent to dodge. With their arms crossed over their heads, the practitioner braces their unarmed hand against their sword arm and swings both down at once. The additional torque provided by the unarmed hand allows the sword strike that follows to immediately accelerate to maximum speed. The practitioner can twist or sidestep during this downswing to compensate for where the opponent is dodging.

*[Toryu • Crushing Despair]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite(s): 15 Strength, *[Toryu • Cobblestone Skeleton].
A brutal, raw technique, the practitioner quickly dashes into an opponent's range, often after avoiding an enemy attack, momentarily torquing the muscles in their legs before launching a powerful knee strike directly up into the target's diaphragm and sternum in an attempt to stagger the opponent. Aside from potentially fracturing or even breaking bones, the opponent can potentially be left winded. This sudden attack can potentially open up many vulnerable areas on the opponent's body for possible finishing moves.

History
Historical AccountsShow
Miyuki was born into one of Fire Country's prominent noble houses to a mother by the name of Toshikane Haruka, though she preferred to be called Haru. The woman had over had over the years been slowly getting fed up with the noble lifestyle, upon becoming pregnant finally coming to the conclusion that while it was too late for her, she couldn't bear to let her child suffer the through the monotony, expectancy, and even pain that often came with the noble lifestyle. And so towards the end of her pregnancy she pleaded with the servants to fake the deaths of her and her child, packed up the bare minimum and ran, her purpose being to deliver her baby somewhere far away, where she could grow up without knowing the truth of her lineage.

She ran for she didn't know how long, eventually stumbling across a small inn where a band of mercenaries were staying and it was there that she gave birth with the assistance of the band's medic, the leader after hearing their story offering to take in the pair, so long as Haru was willing to work. While initially skeptical, the frankly desperate mother agreed to the terms, feeling confident in her ability with a sword as she had trained quite a bit against her parents' wishes.

A few years passed and Haru more than proved herself, eventually becoming leader of the small band. The woman had grown attached to the crew, being very grateful that during their travels the rest of the band had been willing to help her raise Miyuki, most of them coming to think of her as a little sister. Though aside from her mother, the girl grew closest to the band's medic Hitomi, even coming to inherit many of the woman's qualities, such as her always calm, silent nature.

For a while her mother did her best to keep her out of danger but around the time of her twelfth birthday, mostly due to being continuously pestered by the young girl, she reluctantly began teaching her swordplay and a year later took her out on her first job as she had been showing remarkable skill with the blade. It was a simple task but nonetheless it was a shining moment for Miyuki whom was practically basking in the spotlight as her little 'family' heaped praises upon her for having even finished off their target herself.

And so with that she became an honorary member of her mother's crew and began taking on tougher jobs, though she still spent some time on the sidelines with Hitomi. Life continued like this until around a year ago when tragedy struck and shattered their relatively peaceful existence. Haru had gone out on her own to take care of a particularly dangerous job and didn't return for several days. Of course the crew was worried, but none more-so than Miyuki, whom was patiently waiting for her mother to return home so she could hear what had happened.

Eventually Haru did emerge through the front door of the inn where they were staying but something was clearly wrong as she collapsed at the entrance, pale and heavily bleeding. The panicked crew immediately took action, taking her up to a room where Hitomi immediately began doing everything she could to try and save her, Miyuki right by her side. After a while it became obvious that there was nothing that could be done. In her final moments, Miyuki held her mother's hand and the pair spent the time talking endlessly, even as much as it pained the both of them to do so. Soon enough though her mother finally succumbed to her wounds and was given a proper burial the next morning.

It was shortly after that that Miyuki left to go on a journey by herself, not knowing what she would find but what she did know... was that it was something that she absolutely needed to do, for her own sake.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
During the course of her travels the Great War broke out and while she managed to avoid the conflict for the most part, she did at one point wander into a battlefield, in the process having an encounter with a group of Fire Country samurai, whom seemed to mistake her for the long lost Toshikane daughter. She of course denied such a connection, having no idea of the nature of her lineage herself, and went on her way, though she couldn't help but have just a shred of doubt. Could she really be a princess? There was no way right? Well, as it turned out... only time would tell.
