  • Face/head: In the last few years Hikari has begun to noticeably mature, her facial features having considerably sharpened and any remaining baby fat having been lost. She possesses yellow-green eyes that have become more cat-like in appearance and she at some point decided to grow out her dark blue hair, it now hanging down to her lower back when left free though it is most often kept in a braid tossed over her shoulder
  • Body: Hikari is tall and slender with soft peachy skin and lean muscle as well as long slender legs, this all accompanied by moderate curves... breasts and butt that are just large enough to be noticeable and rounded hips.

Clothing/Accessories: Hikari's primary day to day outfit now consists of a long sleeved coat alongside a black tank top and trousers tucked into a pair of knee high lace-up boots.

  • General: Hikari while a bit quiet, is a cheerful, friendly young girl with an inquisitive mind and a good deal of curiosity about the world and those she meets as well as an irresistible urge to flirt with any pretty face she comes across regardless of gender. Additionally she has a great want, practically an urging to help those in need. Over the years she as well has developed an appreciation for nature, having spent a good deal of time in the wilderness during her travels. As her mother had been she is also very good with directions and has a very easy time remembering names and faces, being able to recognize those she meets even if all she should have to go by is a simple description. All said however, she can at times seem a bit melancholic, often being found wondering about the parents she's never met, the kinds of people that they were and if she had been the result of a happy union.

This taijutsu style is all about avoidance, with grace. In this style, the user may slap away blades, thrown weapons, and other objects, all in the interests of preserving one's self. However, this style isn't necessarily about avoiding all damage, so much as avoiding the worst damage. In instances where the user is going against an opponent they can't match, they may use this style to avoid fatal injuries and instead receive less serious injuries and live to fight a bit longer, or even another day. Required Concentrations: Deft Hands, Perception.

D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Soft Paws is a bare-handed deflection technique and is used against bladed weapons. At this level, the practitioner is able to read the angles of the attacks to place the flat of their hand against the flat of the blade and push it away without getting cut by the weapon. However, prolonged use of this technique will cause the practitioner to suffer bruises on their hands.

D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Requirement: *Kūgāpou • Soft Paws
After using Soft Paws to slap a blade away, the practitioner will continue moving forwards while jutting out their elbow. The momentum from the target's original attack that was slapped away, coupled with the sudden defenselessness of the target after having their attack deflected, makes for a powerful counter-attack. The elbow can be aimed anywhere on the torso and above, but is usually aimed at the target's face.

D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Whenever a bladed weapon is coming towards the practitioner, they can slam their palm against the top of the blade, pushing it downwards. This can either cause the sword to miss or, if the practitioner's Strength is equal to or higher than the Strength of the attack, can force the sword into the ground. This technique only works on blades that aren't double-edged.

Requirement: *Kūgāpou • Down Paw
After using Down Paw to drive the opponent’s blade downward or into the ground, the practitioner will rush forward and ram their shoulder into the opponent, driving them back and away from their weapon or even taking the weapon from them outright.

Whenever in a situation where they can't avoid being struck, the practitioner will slightly shift their body. This slight movement allows them to cause the incoming attack to miss any vital organs and cause as little damage as possible.

*Kūgāpou • Quick Fang
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Useful for dealing with an opponent using a short weapon, such as a kunai, knife, or dagger, the practitioner waits for the opponent to attack. Taking advantage of the small size of the weapon, the practitioner then aims a slap or a punch at the opponent's fingers, aiming to simultaneously push the weapon off its trajectory and damage or even crush the opponent's fingers.

C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner will sidestep a weapon attack against them and attempt to disarm the opponent. They will grab and pull the weapon on a safe or dull spot before simultaneously slamming the other palm into the opponent's wrist. If the opponent has a Rigid Structure technique of equal or higher rank than this technique, they can resist being disarmed. Otherwise, the weapon is ripped from the opponent's grasp and their hand is knocked away. Their wrist will swell from the impact, making handling weapons in that hand difficult if the wrist isn't outright broken due to the practitioner having a higher Strength than the opponent.

C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
By observing a weapon's movement through the air and having a deep understanding of weaponry in general, the practitioner is capable of predicting a weapon's trajectory. This technique is especially effective when the practitioner saw the actual moment the weapon was launched, as seeing the movement of the weapon wielder provides crucial information. If they didn't see the weapon being launched, they can still predict the trajectory to a smaller degree but are incapable of accounting for high-level taijutsu that may be applied to the weapon attack.

C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner catches an attacking weapon with both hands and halts its momentum. Once they have stopped the motion of the attack, the practitioner will wrench their hands in a single direction to deflect the weapon or even rip the weapon out of the opponent's hands. Opponents with a higher Strength than the practitioner's Strength can resist being disarmed.

C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Ducking under an attack from either side, the practitioner lifts their off-hand just enough to touch the weapon against its side and shove it outward, adding to its momentum to either imbalance the opponent or disarm them. As the practitioner comes up from under the attack, they will aim a direct punch at the opponent's face or chest.

This style focuses on being overall more physically powerful than your opponent. Users attempt to overwhelm defenses with great speed and strength while chipping away at their opponent’s endurance and keeping their own at the highest possible. Most attacks are simple in execution but extremely powerful in effect, causing battles of attrition to be in their favor.

A neutral stance taken by even entry level practitioners. This stance involves turning your body to be perpendicular to your opponent. One foot is rested directly in front of the other with just the toes in contact with the ground. A hand is held back while the other is forward, pointing up. This stance provides ease of dodging incoming blows by using the least amount of motion possible while still being ready to launch into an attack.

When fighting in close quarters it becomes difficult to generate energy for full powered strikes. Practitioners have learned how to explode force from every muscle with minimal energy wasted and space needed. Every strike done by the practitioner has the potential to be at full strength, so long as they have at least one inch of movement.

Skitter Step:
The Skitter Step is a style that relies heavily on the user's senses. The style itself is a mesh of quick, fast, and wild punches, kicks, and jumps. Due to the user altering their senses, every bit of movement is heard and, since they can start to respond to things instinctively, they can respond to things that normally wouldn't have been able to be heard/seen/done. In addition to the heightened senses, users are normally in a "paranoid" state, where they start to suspect things that aren't always there.

If overused, the style can lead to paranoia in individuals, along with constant fidgeting, making experts in the style quite well known for these activities.

The practitioner makes a fist with their right hand and places it against their left before placing both hands against their chest. This calms the practitioner's senses and returns them to a centered state.

Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
After using any version of the "Senses Open" technique, when the practitioner hears motion behind them, they'll instinctively kick behind them to strike at the source of the sound.

D-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
The counter-balanced Discipline to Outside Dodge. Having mastered this Discipline, when the practitioner is actively using Skitter Step while in close-quarters combat, their body instinctively dodges to the inside of an attack which keeps them centered on their opponent's torso. These dodges are only successful if their Speed is greater than the Speed of the attack

Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
The counter-balanced Discipline to Inside Dodge. Having mastered this Discipline, when the practitioner is actively using Skitter Step while in close-quarters combat, their body instinctively dodges to the outside of an attack which forces them to be constantly moving around their opponent. These dodges are only successful if their Speed is greater than the Speed of the attack.

Prerequisite: A form of Senses Open used.
The counter-balanced discipline to Accept. When faced with an extended limb, may it be an arm or leg, the practitioner will always bat at the extended limb with full force, typically aiming for the joint of the limb in order to cause it to collapse.

C-Ranked

*[Skitter Step • Senses Open]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
The main jutsu of the Skitter Step, the practitioner takes a moment to focus their bodies, then releases it. While in this stance, the practitioner's sensory input is increased, allowing them to receive more information quickly. This Stance grants a +2 in Strength and a +4 in Speed but a -3 in Willpower and -3 in Control. This Stance will remain in effect until deactivated by [Stop]. Practitioners of this technique will find themselves fidgeting and constantly moving, which can make it difficult for the practitioner to use this style in a stealthy manner.

Hikari is the birth child of a woman by the name of Akaiyah, Kameko and a man named Osamu, though she had never gotten to know either as a ways into her mother's pregnancy her parents were separated after having only just reunited. Osamu had sensed that one of his traveling companions had been gradually going mad and so one day he ordered Kameko to take the yet unborn baby and run as far and fast as she could. Of course she had been against such a thing as they had only just reunited after a period of separation but she was eventually convinced and so one day she waited for the cover of night and ran as fast as she could, unaware of the fact that she had escaped in the nick of time, a brutal scene going on not far behind her.

Anyways after once more being on the road for some time she eventually came across the home of a friend that she had made during her travels and asked for a favor, to be allowed to stay until she gave birth. Of course she was allowed to stay and so like that the months passed, Kameko eventually giving birth to a baby girl, that being Hikari herself.

For a time it seemed the mother daughter pair would live in peace from there but one day Kameko left, leaving behind a note explaining that it would be best if she left as misery and general bad luck seemed to follow her wherever she went and as a result asking for Hikari to be taken in, secretly hoping that her daughter would search her out once she was old enough.

From there the years passed and Hikari grew up knowing very well that she was more or less adopted, though she loved her caretaker nonetheless, thinking of her as a parent just as much as she was thought of as a daughter. She was also well known around their small village for being friendly and helpful, playing with the kids and often volunteering at the various businesses. It was in this manner that life continued for many years until one day her caretaker gave her the note Kameko had left with her before she had disappeared along with her blessing to finally seek out the woman that had given birth to her. The woman knew that Hikari had been growing impatient for the day she would finally get to leave home and that time had finally come. It was a tearful farewell but eventually Hikari got her courage up and left, though not before promising that she would find her mother and drag her back home
Since the day of her departure she has grown and learned a good deal about the world around her, though is still no closer to finding her mother. Her travels currently lead her south towards the Heart Empire, having heard word of a woman that could see into the unknown, though more importantly to Hikari herself... the woman seemed to be accompanied by a man that very closely matched descriptions of the father she had long since thought dead. She absolutely needed to know... and all the while found herself hoping for the best...

Appearance:
  • Face/head: Just by looking at her face, Kana would appear far more delicate than she really is with fairly soft, gentle features. She has deep brown cat-like eyes and long black hair that hangs down to her lower back, the bottom half transitioning into a shade of red.
  • Body: Kana is fairly tall and moderately well endowed with smooth peachy skin, having a fair amount of curves and a good deal of well toned muscle.
  • Notable Features:Gruesome jagged scar running down her belly
Clothing and Accessories: Kana's primary outfit consists of a long sleeved kimono with a slit running all the way up the left leg for more ease of movement, short shorts worn underneath and high heeled thigh high boots on her feet.

Personality:
  • General: Once a naive but very sweet girl who simply wished for adventure, the life of a mercenary seems to have taken a toll on Kana. She comes across as cold and unsociable, being slow to warm up to others, having very few close acquaintances and even fewer friends. She does however care a great deal for those she does grow close to. She does all she can to repay her debts and has no qualms taking on most jobs should there be a sufficient reward. However she has an extreme soft spot for animals and young children, refusing to complete even the most well paying job should it involve bringing harm to either.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Kana's only hope at this time is to locate the woman that saved her life so many years ago and repay the debt she owes.
  • Fears: Kana has a deep fear of drowning, one too many close calls on her father's fishing boat having scarred her for life.
  • Combat Mentality:Having taken the mentality of her profession to heart, Kana attacks with ruthless efficiency and some amount of recklessness, doing all she can in an attempt to end fights before they can even really begin.

Toryu:
Toryu, a style of Kenjutsu founded in the Land of Pebbles, melds traditional kenjutsu swordplay with subversive feints and sudden bursts of close-quarters combat, two unyielding hills crashing together to form a mountain. Toryu typically favors the use of the blade with one hand, utilizing the freedom of movement to use one's hands, joints, legs, head, and even the hilt and handle of the sword to make an already deadly style more unpredictable and more lethal. Ignorantly considered a very "unrefined" style by most practitioners of the sword, Toryu is actually one of the most difficult styles of Kenjutsu to learn and master. The very basic premise of the style revolves around the firm control and manipulation of one's own movements and body, some techniques requiring execution while using another attack as a feint or misdirection while not sacrificing strength. The style has no weapon requirements outside of a sword, but many users often prefer kodachi, wakizashi, ninjato, or even tanto, the reduced size and weight of the blades having fewer blind spots and making the user's weapon more mobile.

D-Rank Taijutsu Stance
The signature Stance of Toryu, practitioners relax the muscles in their bodies, gaining additional flexibility in their movements in how they approach the enemy, how they retreat, how they evade attacks, and how they attack the opponent. This Stance allows the practitioner to more easily read opponent's attacks and defend against them by evading in unusual ways, such as ducking, bending around, and quickly sidestepping attacks without needlessly exposing themselves to additional attacks. This fleet-footed Stance lets the practitioner mix up their movements to confuse and misdirect the opponent, allowing them to attack lesser-known openings in the opponent's guard. It also allows the practitioner to rapidly and reflexively change the angle, position and grip of their weapon with minimal movement, allowing them multiple manners in which they can attack the opponent or defend against attacks.

After practicing for a long amount of time with the concept of using both of their hands with equal skill, the user has developed a level of ambidexterity that allows them to utilize both hands equally and as effectively without any penalty. A practitioner of Toryu is capable of attacking with every part of their body, even their heads. This Discipline represents the practitioner's capacity and experience with executing palm strikes, heel strikes, knee strikes, elbow strikes, and headbutts/skull bashes just as effectively as regular punches, kicks, and sword strikes. This Discipline allows the practitioner to consistently execute these kinds of attacks while minimizing or eliminating openings in their defenses or shock/damage they would experience while using these kinds of strikes.

Prerequisite(s): 8 Strength.
Designed as a counterattack but also a potent attack by itself, the practitioner will first wait to block or parry an opponent's attack with their weapon. Then, the practitioner will quickly counter with a swift knee strike to the opponent's stomach or diaphragm to stun them or cause them to stagger by winding them, followed by a quick slash or stab to their chest or stomach. The practitioner may choose to use this as an attack instead by immediately leading off with the knee strike if they so wish. Opponents with equal or higher Endurance than the practitioner's Strength can resist being winded.

D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Designed as a counterattack but also a potent attack by itself, the practitioner will first wait to sidestep an attack before countering with a swift elbow strike with their sword hand to the opponent's face to stun them or cause them to stagger by winding them, grabbing the opponent's arm or garment with their unarmed hand to hold them in place. Immediately following the elbow strike, the practitioner will pull the opponent to one side while executing a slash in the opposite direction with their sword hand. Opponents with an Acrobatics technique of equal or higher rank than this technique can escape from the grappling component of this technique.

C-Ranked

*[Toryu • Lethal Familiarity]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Many of the Toryu techniques would put the user in incredibly daring positions where a single mistake could instantly spell disaster for the swordsman. As a result, Toryu practitioners must train themselves constantly to avoid letting their fears distract them from their task. A practitioner with this technique has learned to shut out fear in the heat of combat, allowing them to perform attacks and techniques without the risk of failure due to fear responses.

C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
An unorthodox use of swordsmanship, the practitioner rushes the opponent and leaps at them, attempting to land on their shoulders. Should the practitioner succeed, they will forcefully shift their weight onto the opponent's shoulders, potentially unbalancing them. Opponents with an Acrobatic technique of an equal or higher rank than this technique can resist having their guard be disrupted. Otherwise, the opponent will be suddenly thrown off balance, leaving their head, neck, or torso exposed for the practitioner to attack with their sword.

History Kana was born and raised in a small village in the coastal lands of Dragon Country. Her mother passed away when she was very little, leaving the girl to grow up with her father, a simple fisherman doing his best to provide for his daughter. She spent most of her time with her father, often accompanying him on his little fishing boat. She spent a good portion of the rest of her time either doing chores or idly daydreaming about a different life, one filled with excitement and adventure.

Yet, she was content to deal with her boring day to day until the call for adventure actually came. This call wouldn't come for a good many years, the girl being around 15 years old when her homeland was caught up in the Great War. While her small village was mostly free from the conflict, they did however come under siege by bandits looking to take advantage of the chaos. Luckily in preparation for the day she would leave her home she had been training with a sword and attempted to drive off the attackers. She fought well but in the end was overcome and fatally wounded.

At that time, a blue haired woman came rushing in and drove off the attackers with nothing but her bare fists and some amount of ninjutsu, though to young Kana with no knowledge of chakra it seemed to be more like magic.

WIth the bandits gone the woman turned her attention to Kana, using her healing magics to heal her wounds and thus saving her life. She never learned the woman's name however, passing out from exhaustion before she could think to ask. The woman was gone the next morning and while Kana was disappointed that she never got to properly thank her savior or even so much as learn her name, she was also excited. She finally had heard the call to adventure. Seeing the woman in action had invigorated her but more than that... she needed to find her and repay the debt she owed.

Shortly after leaving home she decided to become a mercenary, feeling that it would be a good learning experience... and realizing that she needed some source of income if she were to keep herself warm and fed. And so she began her travels, experiencing many things over the next couple of years and gradually growing up, for better and for worse.

Eventually her travels led her to meet with a strange cloaked individual whom gave her an even stranger job, to keep an eye on a girl by the name of Akaiyah Hikari. She was understandably puzzled and a bit wary but she at this point had learned not to turn down a job as long as it didn't put children or animals in harm's way so she begrudgingly accepted.

So she went on her way to track down the girl, the information she received along the way seeming to indicate she might have a connection to the person she was searching for.

She eventually found Hikari bound and unconscious, carried along by a group of bandits. She swiftly disposed of the group and untied the girl, bringing her to an inn in a nearby town to rest.

The next morning a very confused Hikari learned that her new rescuer had been asked to look after her, though she wouldn't say by whom. Nonetheless the girl was more than happy to have a traveling companion and gratefully accepted Kana's offer to become her bodyguard. And with that the pair went on their way... not yet knowing where their respective targets would be found or even that the persons they were looking for happened to be one in the same...
