KINOKO, ONTAROU
Little White Cap

"There's always so Mushroom for improvement! No cap!"

General Information Age: 14
Gender: Male
Height: 5'3
Weight: 127 Lbs
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Ontarou's face is that of the typical sheltered teenager. The baby fat on his cheeks isn't quite gone yet and his skin is a very light shade of dark, fruit of the little light he's used to getting. His eye pupils are a pale white and below them, there are permanent bags. There are a few freckles that trickle out through his cheekbones. His hair flows in long, wide white locks from the top down to chin-level, resembling a white mushroom cap.
  • Body: Being of average height, Ontarou leans on the slightly husky side without actually being overweight. As a physically normal yet young Kinoko boy, his body is still mostly unblemished by huge, wild growths of fungi. To the average onlooker, he's a dark-skinned boy with long hair. He has little to no muscle definition and his skin tends to be silky smooth. He bears no scars and barely any birthmarks as is. He tends to be rigorous on personal hygiene and as such one will almost never see his nails in need of trimming or feel an offensive odor.
  • Notable Features: Aside from his freckles and unusual hair, Ontarou bears the classic Kinoko growths. As it stands, he has a pair of small mushrooms sprouting from the tips of his elbows. Aside from these, he also has a small colony that grows around his lower neck, almost like a natural necklace.
Clothing/Accessories: Having spent his entire life in the ambiguous nature of tropical mangroves, Ontaoru knows to be ready for the extremes of warm and humid as well as sheer, cold rain. He tends to don a sleeveless, hooded beige tunic for when the weather is hot, as well as a pair of knee-length gray shorts and a pair of geta to allow his feet to breathe. As for harsher climates, he switches to a pair of long, black leather tabi, a thick pair of dark-brown fisherman pants, and a red haori over his tunic. In any of these attires he also has a pouch fastened to his right ankle as well as one over each of his buttocks, designed to carry equipment.

Personality:
  • General: Ontarou is best defined as a kind, lazy, naive teenager. Despite his normally sluggish predisposition and movements, he's filled with the energy and curiosity of youth. He tends to use this to help others out, explore, mess around, or a mixture of the three. One barely needs more than the promise of fun and new things to see to lure the inexperienced Kinoko on a quest, especially if it might end up helping someone. Still, while eager to make friends and quite sociable, Ontarou will just as easily tread alone for weeks if distracted by something more interesting. He's also deeply invested in fungal life, always eager to find out about new species and what they're capable of. When it comes to interpersonal relationships, he tends to be the supportive, goofy friend that is there along the whole way. However, if fed up or out of patience he is capable of brutal honesty and tough love. In conclusion, Ontarou is a kind, caring young person, but still very inexperienced and with a lot to learn.
  • Hopes/Dreams: To maintain the unification of his clan; To protect the citizens of minor countries from future war and raiding
  • Fears: The failure in establishing and protecting Kingakure; The permanent division of his clan
  • Combat Mentality: Ontarou's combat mentality is practically nonexistent. While he can resort to some of his clan's arts as a means of self-defense, he also suffers from his clan's passivity and unwillingness to do harm. In case he does have to fight, he will mostly resort to techniques that blind or disorient his opponents and attempt to end the struggle with as little damage as possible. If in a group, he'd rather hang back and assist them or deal with injuries rather than engage in direct combat.

Battle Information Village: Gold Country

  • Chakra Pool: 7
  • Endurance: 7
  • Control: 15

Over his left buttock he carries another pouch that holds 5 exploding tags, 1 smoke bomb and 1 flashbang. This kit was provided to most Kinoko as they began their travels, even though he barely knows how to handle it.

First Ability
Shinkin-niku (Fungus Flesh):Show
Quote:
Believed to be blessed by a Goddess, the Kinoko's Kekkei Genkai gives them the capability of growing mushrooms from their bodies and their surroundings and to produce large amounts of spores from their tenketsu as well as any fungi the Kinoko member creates through an energy source they call Mycorrhiza, which would be identified by the five villages as chakra. These fungi and their spores can be utilized in a number of different ways with techniques of all sorts, making members of this clan highly versatile. Unless otherwise specified, mushrooms created through Kinoko techniques constantly produce spores from their gills. These spores are the basis of many Kinoko techniques, but have a weakness in that they are easily burned, washed off or blown away.

Kinoko clan members vary wildly in appearance depending on age, birth, and even their chosen specialization to some extent with older clan members having more of their body covered with larger and more diverse forms of fungi. As such, while each member share common traits of dark skin and pale, faded eyes the rest of their appearance can vary wildly, making it so that no two Kinoko share much commonality in how they look, their uniqueness only growing with time.
Fungal GrowthsShow
As a young member of the clan, Ontarou's growths are still few and small. Currently, he displays two kinds of growths.
The first is a single sprouting of Leucocoprinus cepistipes on each of his elbows. These white, bell-shaped mushrooms grow a good three inches outward from his skin and he tends to cut holes into his clothes to accommodate them, as it can be uncomfortable to imprison them.
His second manifestation of fungal growths is a small colony of Lycoperdon echinatum that forms an almost perfect circle around his neck. These mushrooms, also white in their early age, are covered in small spikes that gives them the common name of "spiny puffball". As they form a sort of "necklace" around Ontarou's neck, they mostly go unnoticed unless one takes the time to examine them

Doton:
Doton Affinity
A character with this concentration is able to utilize Doton, and can make and use any custom or archived jutsu that require the doton affinity. Doton has a passive enduring effect.
Passive (Enduring)Show
Doton has a passive effect of Endurance, which means that it's power is retained throughout the entirety of the jutsu. All of a single doton jutsu retains the strength of the jutsu, even after the jutsu has been destroyed, and unlike other jutsu, doton does not fade when destroyed. This means that if a doton barrier with 25 strength is cut in half and falls to the ground, a part of that barrier could be picked up and carried as a hand held shield which would still have 25 strength, despite being a fractured part of a jutsu. This creates incredibly potent defenses, making doton a popular affinity among defensive fighters.
Iijutsu:
Iijutsu
This concentration allows for the user to user chakra to affect the biological processes of a living creature. This includes modifying, speeding up, or slowing down the biological processes. Iijutsu is known for it's advanced nature and requires precise chakra control to work effectively. It can be differentiate from normal techniques by the faint light green colour of the chakra used in Iijutsu techniques.

NinjutsuShow
KinojutsuShow
~Lesser Spore Cloud
D-ranked Kinojutsu
The user gathers Mycorrhiza throughout their body before releasing a thick cloud of spores that cover an area equal to the user's [Control] stat in meters. Inhaling these spores is comparable to inhaling smoke or ash and can cause heavy, labored coughing to anyone caught within it unexpectedly. The cloud lasts for two posts or until cleared by some means such as a fuuton technique. These spores can be used for other Kinojutsu.

~Mushroom Genesis
D-ranked Kinojutsu
The user gathers Mycorrhiza and sends it to a point within a number of meters equal to their Control stat in meters at a Speed of [Control]. From this point mushrooms grow at a Speed of [Control], covering an area of 1 meter in diameter. These mushrooms have a Strength of [Control] and are constantly creating spores. These spores can be used for other Kinojutsu. The user cannot make these mushrooms grow on metal, stone, concrete or similar materials.

~Spring-step Mushroom
D-ranked Kinojutsu
The user gathers Mycorrhiza and sends it to a point within a number of meters equal to their Control stat in meters at a Speed of [Control]. From this point a single, large mushroom, the cap roughly three feet in diameter with a sturdy, one foot tall stem will sprout. This mushroom sprouts with [Control] Speed and Strength and is constantly creating spores. These spores can be used for other Kinojutsu. This mushroom is springy and elastic and can be jumped on to propel the user in any direction with +3 Speed at the cost of -3 Taijutsu while airborne. This mushroom is capable of propelling individuals or objects up to 10 meters.

~Cap Shield
C-ranked Kinojutsu
Prerequisite: Spring-step Mushroom
The usr gathers Mycorrhiza at a point on their body of their choosing and sprouts a large, 3 foot diameter mushroom cap with a 6 inch stalk at a Speed of [Control]. This cap has a Strength of [Control]. Striking this cap with a Strength less than the Strength of the cap will cause whatever struck it to bounce off with equal Strength.

~Elizabethan Mushroom
C-ranked Kinojutsu
Prerequisite: 10 Endurance
The user gathers Mycorrhiza and creates a thick, white mushroom from their body. Upon consumption of this mushroom, the body will begin to heal itself in a regenerative fashion. The rate of regeneration depends on the user's Control stat, as specified by the standard regeneration table. This mushroom is only capable of healing Moderate wounds and lesser.

~Binding Mycelium
B-ranked Kinojutsu
Prerequisite: Target must have fungal spores on them.
The user gathers Mycorrhiza into their hand. After the user has done so, they will attempt to touch a target which has spores on it. If they do the Mycorrhiza will transfer over to the spores, causing the spores to grow dense, fibrous mycelium at a Speed of [Control]. These mycelium fibers will wrap around the target and bind them with a Strength of [Control], completely covering the target.
DotonShow
*Doton • Wall
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will form a solid stone wall up to 5 meters away from them at [Control] speed. The wall has [Control] strength and is 3x3x1 meters large.
IijutsuShow
*[Iijutsu • Thermometer]
E-Ranked Ninjutsu
This simple technique is utilized by medical-nin in place of traditional thermometers, although it is not as accurate. After forming a single handseal and focusing chakra into an object in his/her hand, the user can place it within the mouth (or rear) of the patient. If the patient's temperature is above normal body temperature, the chakra within the object will clump together near the top of it, while if the body temperature is below average, the chakra will form much lower down on the object. This technique can be held as long as the user has chakra.

*[Iijutsu • Chakra Gloves]
E-Ranked Ninjutsu
When real latex gloves are not on hand, the *[Iijutsu • Chakra Gloves] technique comes in quite handy. After forming a single handseal, the user will focus chakra into his/her hands to form a thin layer of chakra around them. This chakra will help to protect other objects against the bacteria on the user's hands if sterilization is not an option before beginning a procedure. This technique can be held as long as the user has chakra.

*[Iijutsu • Chakra Mask]
E-Ranked Ninjutsu
Not unlike the *[Iijutsu • Chakra Gloves] technique, *[Iijutsu • Chakra Mask] shines when the real deal is not on hand. After forming a single handseal, the user will focus chakra into the area around his/her mouth and nose to form a thin layer of chakra around them. This chakra will help to keep the user from breathing bacteria onto a patient during procedures. This technique can be held as long as the user has chakra.

*[Iijutsu • Blood Clot Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
This highly useful field technique is applied to bleeding wounds to help encourage the coagulation of the blood. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will hover them over the bleeding wound and begin to channel chakra through it. The chakra will began to thicken the blood, causing it to clot. Wounds must be dealt with one at a time, and the number of wounds that can be tended to within the three (3) posts that this technique lasts depends on their size. Small wounds take very little time to clot, while moderate wounds take one (1) post of concentration to clot, and large wounds take two (2) posts to clot. Although this technique stops the bleeding, the wound remains vulnerable and will require further care after this has been performed.

*[Iijutsu • Burn Ointment Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
A relatively simple and handy technique to have at hand, *[Iijutsu • Burn Ointment Technique] is used to alleviate pain caused by burn wounds. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will hover them above the burn wound. As the chakra is channeled into and around the burn, it cools the area and works to prevent harmful, scar-producing blistering in the affected area. To provide this soothing relief to small areas of first degree burns, it's fairly quick to do. For small areas of second degree burns, it takes one (1) post of concentration to achieve the same effects. This technique is ineffective when applied to larger areas or burns worse than second degree.

History
Historical AccountsShow
Ontarou began his life as the fruit (or spore) of the love shared by two Kinoko women. Mashirohana, at the time forty-two years of age, and Orenji who had just turned eighteen both desired a child to raise and look after. After a brief period of courtship, they partook in the traditional conception ritual of the Kinoko clan. Even at this early stage in life, Ontarou set himself apart by being one of the few children to spring from the walls of the conception room rather than sprouting from one of his mothers' bodies. For someone with a keen eye, this was perhaps the first sign of his future tendency towards venturing outward into the unknown world, rather than settling for the comfort of home.
His early childhood followed suit. Curious and enthusiastic he became quite the handful at an early age. As soon as he was able to walk there was seldom anything that could keep him from exploring his surroundings. He was a kind child, constantly expressing his affection with hugs and the bringing of "presents" from his "expeditions" - which were mostly different mushrooms from various parts of the garden. His hair, which had grown into wide, round locks of white, earned him the nickname of "little white cap" from his family and neighbors.
Inch by inch, he grew up with his family in a small community of neighbors and acquaintances. Their small hold was situated in a mangrove, ideal for both growing fungi as well as a place generally avoided by hostile minds. During these formative years, Mashirohana was the strictest of his mentors, teaching him how to write, read, and other essential pursuits of the mind. His younger mother, Orenji would teach him the pursuits of the heart, encouraging him to chase his passions, be kind to others, and how to make them happy with a good meal. Both taught him everything he knows about mushrooms and their growth as well as variety and uses. He proved to be talented at the family arts, something that pleased both his progenitors.
Despite living in such a secluded, safe part of the country, Ontarou was not spared the sight of life's tragedies. On the onset of puberty, his mothers began to bring him along on the trips they would take to aid recently-attacked Kinoko settlements, hoping to induce a sense of solidarity into him as well as harden him to harshness. Unfortunately for them, he received the message a little too well. The young man became obsessed with the idea of becoming strong enough to protect all these kind, innocent people, especially with the war that had begun to rage through the countries. It was only with a lot of effort that his mothers managed to keep him away from the war efforts after Kaguya Aimi united the clan, and the idleness ate at him. After the dust settled, however, there was no stopping him. Even with the training given by Aimi in the concept of chakra, medical Iijutsu, and even his natural element after the war, the boy couldn't help but feel useless. Determined to expand his power and knowledge as well as learn the so-called ninja arts, Ontarou set out into the world to make a positive change.
