Kashou, Akish

Acceptance Through Pain

General Information Age: 12
Gender: Male
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Akish has long black hair that falls to his shoulders, though he cuts the sides and keeps the length only present in the back, out of fear of the hair getting in the way of his eyes. Akish has emerald green eyes and a strong jaw. Despite being a Jashin, his face is undamaged and unscarred.
  • Body: Akish’s body is completely covered in mostly self-made scars from his practice of Jashin. He is a strong figure that has a large chest for a genin of his age. Akish prides his body on physically being in shape. Over Akish’s heart is a scar in the design of the Jashin symbol, a triangle within the circle.
  • Notable Features:Akish has a small chunk of his right ear cut off. It’s small to the point where only someone looking closely would notice the back of his right ear has been damaged.
Clothing/Accessories: Black leather pants with a light red fringe, socks and wooden sandals to cover the food. Over Akish's arms are layers of wrapped black cloth that move up to his wrists and cover part of the leather gloves he wears. He is shirtless but overall wears a black cloak that covers his torso and legs. Also comes attached with a black hood and a torn half-cape down his back.
Personality: Akish is a very distant and often meditative individual. Due to his past and experience being raised by Jashinists he is extremely spiritual and a loyalist to his religion. Though just an acolyte, he seeks acceptance from his peers in the church and hopes to appease the God of Death. While almost on one knows of Akish’s religion, he is thankfully able to still be brutal in battle, since this is nothing new to the region of Kirigakure. However, he always holds his ceremonies/rituals in secret and often finds excuses to go to his home. Because of Akish's secretive nature, it's hard for him to make friends. He had colleagues in the academy, but a part of Jashin is bearing the weight of one's life alone. Akish can't see how anyone other than his cult can help him, so he's entirely self sufficient...for now.
  • General:
  • Hopes/Dreams: Akish wishes to prove himself as a worth servant of Jashin, moving past his fear and doubt that came from the constant abuses of his father.
  • Fears: Akish fears being weak, and forever being destined to be someone that is manipulated by those with strength. Akish fears a lack of progress.
  • Combat Mentality:Akish is a firm believer of getting on top of an opponent and never giving them a moment to use against you. With his strength, Akish will try to rush an opponent and wear them down with his physical strength. As a user of the Shinden style, he is quick to use his blade in an attempt to hack his opponent to pieces.

Shinden StyleShow

Shinden Kenjutsu:
Shinden Kenjutsu is a style originating in Marsh Country that emphasizes heavy and damaging slashes from positions that allow flexibility and focus. Typically the user will draw their sword and then lift it over their shoulder or head, in a downward slashing angle to allow for gravity to act as an enhancer for the blow and because of this, heavier swords such as nodachi or odachi are typical fare for the style but the moves can be done with a katana. This style also emphasizes firm and powerful body movements to deal with the lack of blade defense afforded by the stance assumed.
Requires: [Upper], [Rigid Structure], [Sword or Hafted] Concentrations
*Shinden • River Hands
D-Rank Kenjutsu Stance
Prerequisite: 10 Strength
As the Shinden style works best with a large blade, the drawback is that the sword is difficult to maneuver for beginners. With this stance, the users have learned how to move their hands around the hilt of the blade in order to quickly move their blade back up after striking down. However, due to the concentration on the hands, the user is unable to react as quickly to other situations, resulting in a -4 penalty to wit in battle when this stance is used.

*Shinden • Stream Splitting
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 10 Strength
Lifting their sword above their head the user of this technique drives it down in one fluid motion with their blade aimed to slash through or into whatever they are attacking. The force of this technique is amplified by the fact that their stance is aimed to enhance muscle tension and torque, allowing them to make the single slash a very powerful one.

*Shinden • Branch Cleaver
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 10 Strength
While the basic techniques of Shinden revolve around heavy slashes from standing positions this technique is about harnessing the same destructive potential while moving. Rushing at a foe quickly, the user slashes in a downward motion in order to maintain momentum. The sword is typically swung from right to left or from left to right instead of straight down, the attack usually stopping at waist level to keep from potentially stumbling. While less destructive than some Shinden techniques, it still retains utility in battles of movement.

*Shinden • Fake Out
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 10 Strength
A technique designed to interrupt foes; the user pulls their hands up on their sword to expose more of the hilt while in typical Shinden stance. Once an opponent comes within range, the user yanks the hilt down in a smashing manner against the foe or a similar target. Afterwards, the user follows with a less damaging downward slash at a foe, making this effective for surprise purposes.

*Shinden • Grass Cutter
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 10 Strength
With a stance shift, the user quickly draws their weapon to their waist with the blade facing away from their body. The user then delivers a quick and brutal horizontal thrust forward, followed by a slice, inspiring its name by cutting down unwary opponents. The technique is defensive in nature, allowing the user to guard with the intent to counter.

*[Shinden • Sword Shield]
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 10 Strength
As most Shinden users wield rather large blades, The user of this technique has trained themself to use the width of their blade as a sort of shield, using it to deflect most small weaponry and block blows reliably. Users should be very liberal with the use of this technique, as too strong a blow could damage their weapon and render it useless, while too thin a weapon makes the use of this technique more difficult than one with a wider blade.

*Shinden • Form Improvement
C-Rank Kenjutsu Stance
Prerequisite: 15 Strength
The user assumes a somewhat curved stance by drawing one elbow down and bending it back so that the sword points straight up above the user with the left hand at cheek level and the right hand at eye level. This shifts the sword into pointing straight up instead of curved in any direction, allowing for firm and quick slashes and thrusts. This stance also allows the user to recover from an attack at a greater speed, preserving the user's defensive position without sacrificing the power behind their attacks.

*Shinden • Grounding Blade
C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Strength
The user he blade of their sword into the ground and then slashes sideways creating a fairly deep deep crater, around five inches, in the ground in front of them, kicking up a splash of rocks and dust to blind and harry foes. The user then lunges into their foe with an attempt to knock them over or slash at their legs. Foes with at least equal Strength to the user can avoid being knocked over and can maintain ground, preventing the follow-up slash.

*Shinden • Aerial Saw
C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Strength
Leaping up off the ground in any Shinden stance, the user draws their blade down and creates a powerful overhead slash which doubles as a defensive movement, the user capable of moving the sword to displace weight and momentum to change direction if needed. With this technique, the user can also form heavy slashes on uneven or unstable terrain without dependancy on solid ground.

*Shinden • Uproot
C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Strength
Bringing their blade down and pointing the tip towards their enemy, the user will thrust the length of their blade into his opponent in an attempt to jam their sword through the opponent's torso. To finish the technique the user will lift their target off of their feet by lifting the blade before throwing them as far as they can, swinging the blade to fling them off the tip.

*Shinden • Shield of Swings
C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Strength, 15 Taijutsu
The user will swing their blade in a seemingly wild fashion without truly aiming to connect with a target, at least not with any real accuracy. While it seems to be totally uncalculated to the untrained eye, the user is in fact swinging their weapon in such a way to protect themselves from other attacks while making their approach. By swinging the blade in large circles around their body, they create a whirlwind of strikes that not only serve to bat away blows of lesser strength, but can easily tear apart an opponent on a direct hit.
Toryu StyleShow

Toryu Kenjutsu:
Toryu Kenjutsu is a sword style originating from the Land of Pebbles that focuses on not just performing kenjutsu but also weaving close quarters style taijutsu into the bladework. Toryu's specialty is not only learning to capably slash a sword with one hand but also learning to use the hands, joints, legs and even the head to make frighteningly dangerous close quarters fighters. An inelegant style, it is commonly associated with the more 'rough' samurai but in truth it's reliance on two opposing impulses and control of the body makes it one of the more difficult Kenjutsu styles to learn. While usable with most blades, experienced fighters often prefer wakizashi, ninjato and even tanto daggers instead of katana for increased mobility.
Requires: [Upper Body], [Sword] Concentrations

*[Toryu • Close Quarters]
D-Rank Kenjutsu Stance
Prerequisite: 5 Taijutsu
The signature stance of the style, Close Quarters teaches users of this style how to rapidly change the angle, position and even grip of their weapon without moving their hand from it's signature position at the user's waist for maximum versatility. Users of this style often assume a one foot forward, one back, slightly swayed stance to free up movement as well at the expense of leaving their center open.

*[Toryu • Lunging Feint]
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Speed
A basic technique of the style wherein the user moves in for a basic lunge-thrust with their weapon, only to turn in mid thrust and attempt to sweep their leg under the opponent's own. This tends to be useful as a basic feint and can usually knock down those with less strength than the user who get caught by it.

*[Toryu • Guard Break]
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Strength
After rushing in on a foe and initiating an attack the user waits for the opponent to guard, either with arm or weapon, before quickly lashing out with their hand or pommel of their blade and attempting to smash the guarding hand or arm aside with a wrist smash. The pain as well as damage can interrupt the guard of opponents, leaving them wide open for the initial attack to hit.

*[Toryu • Limb Lock]
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: *[Toryu • Close Quarters], 5 Taijutsu
A dangerous close quarters 'option closer', the Toryu user will sweep in close and try to slam their foot down on an opponent's as well as quickly sweep their arm around the opponent's to lock their elbow with the user's own. This technique is usually utilized for setting up blows or blocking off the weapons of dual-wielding foes and it forces the opponent to break out of the move before counter-attacking.

*[Toryu • Counter Kick]
D-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Taijutsu, 5 Strength
The user of this technique will attempt to block the blow of his opponent with his blade, relying heavily on the durability of their weapon and their own strength to resist the strength of the opponent's attack. Should they be successful, the user will follow up with a swift kick to the target's chest or stomach to push them away and stun them, then follow up with a quick stab to the chest or stomach.

*[Toryu • Leg Hook Grapple]
C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Taijutsu, 10 Speed
A potent close quarters move that is performed by rushing at a foe and attempting to jump onto the opponent's shoulders. Then, assuming they land, the user shifts their weight in an attempt to unbalance the victim. If performed correctly on an opponent with 10 or less strength who cannot compensate for the weight and momentum it causes them to tip back or go off balance, setting up for a secondary slash or stab at their now exposed head or torso.

*[Toryu • Subversion Grappling]
C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Taijutsu
One of the more utilized techniques in the arsenal of the style, it involves the shifting of offense and defense, specifically utilizing the sword as a defensive weapon and the hand as the main weapon; by blocking far off the center of the clash (to the side, above, below), the user opens up an opposing swordsman or weapon specialist to punches, quick closes and even more complicated maneuvers simply by forcing their sword back for a moment. The downside of course is it lessens the overall effectiveness of the sword.

*[Toryu • Sweep Cutter]
C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Taijutsu
During close quarters or after engaging a foe via a rush, the user quickly forces themselves back as they divert body weight downwards typically causing a quick and controllable slide under the opponent's field of control, usually between the legs or to the side. During this slide the user attempts slashes, stabs or even hooks or drags the opponent down with them to open up for more techniques or just deal considerable damage.

*[Toryu • Staggering Knee Strike]
C-Rank Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Taijutsu, 15 Strength
The user quickly dashes into an opponent's range while delivering a quick knee strike to the target's solar plexus in an attempt to stagger the opponent. The aim is to get the target to lean forward while holding their gut, opening up the many vulnerable areas of the back, neck and skull to various possible finishing moves.

History[/i]
PrologueShow
Akish was born as the product of a rape from a nobleman placed upon a young maid who worked in his home. As she was from the slums of Kiri, the noble family was too powerful for the girl to report or have anything done about, so she carried her guilt and shame quietly until she realized something: she was pregnant.

She approached the young lord and asked if he would at least help her to take care of the child. The nobleman was an egotist in nature, and upon knowing that something was being spawned of him, desired to keep the boy and raised him to be successful and powerful. However, it meant he had to tolerate the maid whom he had violated those months ago. She was permitted to stay in the house, but was secluded to a locked room in the west wing of the house. She was kept there until the day she gave birth.

That very night, the nobleman smothered the girl to death, and took the baby boy as his one and only heir.

Akish grew up secluded. His father didn’t want talk about how his child was a bastard, as the disappearance of the mother would only draw further suspicion. Akish, like his mother, was kept to a single room in the house where his father mistreated him once he was able to take the beatings. The nobleman loved power and enjoyed abusing it, even on a boy that looked so similar to him.

One day Akish had a dream, and in that dream he saw a figure clothed in red and black who told him that he had the strength to escape, that he could take control of his life. In the dream Akish saw detailed depictions of his mother’s death, and how his father had caused it. Come morning, Akish broke one of his chairs and sharpened a leg until it was deadly short. Upon his father coming for one of his daily beatings, Akish rammed the chair through the man’s chest. Akish ran as soon as he could, not even staying to watch the man die.

Akish ran for at least two hours straight until his feet bled and his body wasn’t able to carry him any further. Upon waking up, he found himself in a bed with the biggest plate of food he had ever seen next to him. After eating a man dressed in a similar red and black cloak from Akish’s dream approached him. The man called himself Puraido, and he was a priest in the cult of Jashin. He believed that Akish had a lot to learn.
Puraido instructed Akish in the ways of Jashin. “Life is all about pain my boy, and the sooner that people deny themselves of comforts the better off the world will be. No matter how much jutsu one knows, we can never escape the daily torments of life. You know the truth better than most, as long as we fear pain we are in control of those stronger. But once we let go…once we release ourselves, we become something unworldly. We become legends”

Akish took well to the teachings, applying himself to the scripture and practices with ease. After receiving daily beatings, injuring himself and blood sacrifices were easy. Akish wanted to never experience the fear that had surrounded him so cruelly in life. According to Puraido, the boy was meant to be in Jashin all along, and the God had been watching over Akish since his conception.

After officially taking the trials and becoming an acolyte, Akish was told by Puraido that he was to go to the academy and become a powerful shinobi. Only by climbing the ranks of the shinobi ladder would Jashin start to believe that Akish was making process to his goal.

Akish was able to fit well in to the academy as the training of Jashin had prepared him for the brutality that most Kiri shinobi were accustomed to. Now that he’s graduated and officially becoming a genin, Akish is ready to test the strength of his faith and prove himself ready to be judged by Jashin. Akish didn’t know what Jashin had planned for him, but it didn’t matter anymore. Akish wasn’t afraid to die. He had done that already.
