DescriptionShow Izaya takes considerable pride in his appearance, keeping himself well-groomed at all times and spending far too much time in front of a mirror in order to keep his dark red hair cut short and spiked up. Generally speaking, he seems to be confident, albeit in a way that makes him appear cocky at times, often showing in the form of a cocky grin and cracking his knuckles. He is a young man of average height and has a slim build. He's muscular but one wouldn't call him buff or chiselled. His face has some smooth features and is actually quite handsome, his violet eyes being perhaps his most prominent feature, along his light brown skin which is free of any noticeable blemishes. Clothing/AccessoriesShow With no desire to be stuck in the traditional garbs of his parents, Izaya wears almost exclusively modern clothing. First and foremost is his coat; high-collared, long-sleeved, starched and perfectly maintained, this coat is lilac in colour and has thick black edging. Down the left side of the coat, which folds over the right when closed, is a series of black circular designs. Running down the sleeves are lighter coloured patterns of a circle and a series of straight lines. Perhaps the most interesting part are the two thin metal bands that are stitched over the shoulders and his 'forehead protector' is stitched into the middle of the back of it. His pants are solid black, with a black leather belt and a plain silver belt buckle in the shape of a square. There are a couple silver chains hanging from his waist as a decorative item. His pants are always neatly done and have that typical perfectly ironed look to them. In place of sandals he wears thick black boots with a lilac trim around the top, which come half way up his chins. Across the boots are a number of straps and buckles to keep them securely closed. Like all trained ninja he wears a thigh holster, lilac in colour, strapped to his right thigh over a series of white bandages. He also wears a black hip pouch attached to his belt which sits to the left side of his waist. PersonalityShow Izaya is constantly concerned about looking cool and proving he is the top dog. From the way he dresses, to the air he gives off, even the way he fights, everything has to be cool. In his concern about his reputation he often, unintentionally, disregards the feelings of others. Aside from trying to his best to fit in with the stereotypical popular guy image, Izaya is a bit of an intellectual, something he does his best to hide. He likes reading books and studying as much as he enjoys training and being the centre of attention, not that he would ever admit it. Despite his cool demeanour though, Izaya is very self-conscious of his image and can be easily embarrassed over his minor inadequacies, such as his constant refusal to admit his fear of heights. He relies almost exclusively on elemental ninjutsu for the sole reason that it is, in his eyes, the flashiest way to fight. Genjutsu can't been seen by anyone except those it affects and taijutsu, while it can be flashy, just doesn't have the same pizzazz that throwing around lightning bolts and giant stone boulders does. He does use his skills tactically, combining his techniques to create unique effects, rather than just throwing his strongest techniques out haphazardly, but he still tries to make everything as cool as possible and would freely give up an easy win for the chance to use an over-the-top finisher. HistoryShow Overall, Izaya’s childhood was nothing extraordinary. Like most children, he heard stories about the shinobi that protected the village, his uncle being one of them, and wanted to join those ranks. His parents, both conservative civilians that didn't like change, tried to forbid him until he kicked up such a fuss that the only way to stop him was to let him enrol. A few choice words from his uncle, and a promise to protect him, didn't go amiss either. At first he wasn’t in the academy out of patriotism or to prove something, he just wanted to be cool like the other kids. He half-assed the academy for the first few years, making 'friends' and just generally treating it all as a game where he was the team captain, until he heard some the darker stories about being a ninja. That it was a harsh life with few friends outside your teammates. Something that went against Izaya's desire to be the most popular kid in school. Naturally Izaya disregarded these stories until they affected him personally. His uncle was killed during a mission. His idol, the man he looked up to and the man he wanted to be like, was killed in the course of performing his duties as a ninja. His parents, who never wanted to have anything to do with the shinobi life, attempted to have Izaya pulled from the academy and he almost would have agreed. Dropping out however, as was pointed out to him by his only real friend and rival Hibiki, would be to disregard the memory of his uncle. So rather than drop out Izaya put his all into living up to his uncle's legacy, though perhaps with a little more flair. |
