Hyuuga, Kotaro

["Quit wasting my time and fall over already, I got other shit to do."]

General Information Age: 16
Gender: Male
Height: 5'6
Weight: 150
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Kotaro's face bears the beginnings of facial hair, which he works to keep shaven as often as possible. His hair is black in color and left in a rather shaggy 'style', with a small ponytail that hangs behind his head.
  • Body: Kotaro's body is slender with very little muscle showing, a side effect of his focus on speed over strength. He bears a few scars along his body, mostly from training exercises and such.
  • Notable Features: He bears two scars on his face, one across the bridge of the nose and one in the left corner of his mouth. He also has a tattoo of the trigrams in between his shoulderblades, usually covered by his clothes.
Clothing/Accessories: Kotaro wears a sleeveless dark blue jacket, complete with a hood. The jacket clasps shut instead of zips, and comes down to his knees in the front and to his mid calf in the back. Underneath that is a sleeveless black shirt and a red sash tied around the waist. Above the jacket he wears a combination of a shoulder belt and a regular belt, with the shoulder belt going across his right shoulder. His ninja pouch is attached on the left side, just behind his back. For leg and footwear, he wears a pair of white Tobi Trousers and dark blue ninja tabi. Lastly, he has bandages tied around his arms up past his elbows, and a single bracer that goes up to his elbow joint with a tip that extends slightly past the elbow.

Personality:
  • General: Kotaro has a penchant for sarcasm, and will often make quips about the current situation whenever an opportunity presents itself. Half of the time it's to show his disdain for the situation, and the other half of the time it's a way to lighten the mood with a bit of comedic observation. He's also known to look for ways to do something 'better'. In reality, this is just a fancy way of saying 'ways to get things over with quicker so I can do other stuff'.

This 'other stuff' that he is so eager to get back to all of the time is his hobby; whittling and wood carving. He loves the feel of wood being shaped in his hands, taking a hunk of uninteresting wood and turning it into something special. He carves as often as his career will allow him, as he can't simply allow his skills as a ninja to diminish for his hobby. Still, if he could, he'd spend all of his time carving away at some hunk of wood.
  • Hopes/Dreams: To carve a masterpiece of art made of the rarest of wood.
  • Fears: Death, loss of his hands or eyes, loss of his cherished dagger.
  • Combat Mentality:In a fight, Kotaro is weak physically, so he relies on his nintaijutsu to fill in the gaps that his strength leaves. He relies heavily on his speed and genjutsu to grant him the opportunity to get in close enough to use his nintaijutsu, and focuses on using not only chakra closing techniques, but also techniques to overload and overstimulate the nervous system by combining his jyuuken style with his Raiton affinity.

Without chakra, Kotaro relies on his mantis style of taijutsu, which is also derived heavily from Jyuuken in that it is focused on finger strength instead of arm strength. Using this style, he will aim for pressure points and weak spots in the human body and use them to his advantage to cause as much pain as he can. He doesn't generally aim to kill unless he must, but he isn't adverse to the idea either.

Father’s DaggerShow
This is a simple dagger with a 16 centimeter blade and a 10 centimeter grip that Kotaro keeps sheathed over the left side of his chest. The blade is simple, however it is kept extremely sharp at all times. The grip is covered in black leather and the weapon has no cross guard. This rather simple blade was originally owned by Kotaro's father, and it is his tool of choice for his whittling and wood sculpting. The blade has never drawn blood and has never been used for combat, as Kotaro refuses to use it for anything other than woodcarving.

Abilities - 1/3Show
Byakugan:
Byakugan Doujutsu
One of the most famed doujutsu in the world, Byakugan is the bloodline limit of the Hyuuga Clan. When active, the clan member gains 360 degree vision and Penetrative vision, allowing the Hyuuga clan to see the Tenketsu of their enemies. Their telescopic vision can be activated via jutsu. As such, the Byakugan is capable of ability channeling, allowing the Hyuuga to activate their Doujutsu techniques without hand seals. It should be noted that while using their telescopic vision the Hyuuga experiences tunnel vision, making it difficult to see their surroundings.

Prolonged usage of the Byakugan is strenuous and requires a high level of endurance. The maximum operating time a user can utilize their Byakugan at a time is equal to their stamina stat divided by 4 rounded down, to a minimum of one post. Upon reaching the max duration, the stress of using their Byakugan to it’s limit causes a cooldown period of 1/2 of the duration time, to a minumum of one post. During this cooldown period, the Byakugan cannot be activated and attempting to do so will cause physical pain. Duration is based off total posts where the Byakugan is activated, meaning users can turn it on and off to have a shorter cooldown.

Jutsu
JyuukenShow
~Jyuuken :: Chakra Needles
D Rank NinTaijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 6 Control
By channeling chakra to the hand, the ninja will create one chakra needle on one of their fingertips. They can then throw it at an opponent or target as if it were a regular throwing senbon, or they can use them with their Jyuuken Techniques to give their pokes a stabbing quality. The damage caused is much like that of a regular senbon needle, and it lasts for 3 posts.

~Jyuuken :: Eight Divination Signs, Air Palm
D Rank NinTaijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 6 Control
After channeling chakra throughout their body, the Hyuuga will thrust their palm outward, releasing a high-speed palm thrust. A spiraling, compressed shell of chakra is formed and bursts outward in the direction the palm is facing. It travels at a speed of 5, hits with a strength of 5, and travels out up to five meters. If the shell hits the opponent, they will be knocked back 5 meters unless they have a strength of 5 or higher.

~Jyuuken :: Palm Dance of Divination
D Rank NinTaijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 6 Control
One of the fundamental techniques of the style, the user will channel chakra into their palms. They will then quickly strike the opponent in an attempt to damage their tenketsu. This is normally used in conjunction with other techniques. The gathered chakra can be maintained for three posts before dissipating away.

~Jyuuken :: Eight Divination Signs, Thirty-Two Palms of the Hand
D Rank NinTaijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: ~Jyuuken :: Palm Dance of Divination, 6 Control
Used in melee range, the clan member will shoot short bursts of chakra from their fingertips while striking the opponent's tenketsu 2 times, then 2 times again, then 4 times, 8 times, and finally 16 times, totalling 32 strikes. The chakra damage forcefully closes the 32 tenketsu struck, stopping the chakra flow of the opponent in that area and limiting their ability to use jutsu. This prevents the opponent from using some ninjutsu and genjutsu, D-rank and lower, causes mild pain, and hinders the opponent's chakra control. The penalty will only last for two full posts.

~Jyuuken :: Palm Bottom
D Rank NinTaijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 6 Control
This attack consists of a quick, precise thrust of the user’s palm to an opponent's body, having channeled chakra into the hand. Though it causes internal damage like other Jyuuken techniques, its greatest asset lies in its ability to be fired off from just about any position and at any given point of the opponent's body.
Byakugan JutsuShow
~Byakugan: Telescopic Vision
D Rank Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: 10 Control
By channeling a small amount of chakra to the Hyuuga's Byakugan, the clan member uses their doujutsu to zoom in like a telescope, allowing them to see much farther away. In doing so, the Hyuuga member is able to see up to 250 meters away as though they were mere feet away. It should be noted that while using their telescopic vision the Hyuuga experiences tunnel vision, making it difficult to see their surroundings. This jutsu can be maintained as long as the Hyuuga channels chakra to their eyes.
RaitonShow
*Raiton • Static Shroud
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user covers their body in a layer of visible static which crackles around them for 4 posts. Anything which comes within 6 inches of their body will be repelled with a force of 5 strength and have the Raiton Shocking effect applied.

*Raiton • Bright Bolt
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will extend two fingers toward a target. A bolt of lightning will jump up to 10 meters from their fingers at a speed of 6, striking with a strength of 4.

*Raiton • Shock Double
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals, the user will create a copy of themselves out of Raiton chakra. The clone will be able to move with the stats labelled below, while also exploding with the force of a single exploding tag upon death (which also applies the raiton passive effect). The clone will only last for 3 posts.
Taijutsu: 2
Stamina: 1
Strength: 1
Speed: 2

Jyuuken :: Electric Thrust
D-Ranked Nintaijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 6 Control
Kotaro will rush his opponent down while channeling Raiton chakra within his hands. Once he has closed the gap, he will thrust his fingers towards a target's body, releasing the Raiton chakra stored within his hands as he does so, blasting Raiton through the opponent's body in a similar manner to the Palm Thrust Technique. The Raiton makes it feel like the target is being stabbed through the body rather than simply poked, and also causes the area around the thrusts to go numb for 3 posts.

Jyuuken :: Distorting Thrust
D-Ranked Nintaijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 6 Control
Kotaro will begin by flooding his hands with Raiton chakra as he makes his approach to an opponent. Once he closes the gap, he will then use his fingertips to jab into the temples of his opponent, releasing the Raiton chakra into their head as they do so. This causes a good deal of pain in the target, as well as a distorting effect that messes with their depth perception, causing them to see things as if they were two meters further out then they actually are. This distortion lasts for 3 posts.
GenjutsuShow
[Genjutsu • Mirror Image]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
After channeling chakra throughout his body, Kotaro will perform a single hand seal. If the target sees him perform this seal, they will suddenly see two clones of Kotaro poof into existence at his left and right, about 3 feet away from him. The clones will then proceed to move in on the target and attempt to use various Jyuuken techniques against them, moving with the same speed as Kotaro as they do so. They can also evoke the illusion of force with their blows, allowing the clones to hit with 5 strength worth of force with their attacks, though these attacks do no actual damage to the opponent. This is meant to confuse the target as to which one is truly Kotaro, giving him a better chance of landing an attack against the target. These clones last for 3 posts, at which point any pain or damage they caused will seem to disappear.

[Genjutsu • Illusionary Barrage]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
After channeling chakra throughout his body, Kotaro will reach for his ninja pouch. Should the target see him reach for the pouch, they will see him pull out a plethora of shuriken, 15 in total, before tossing them all at once towards the opponent's direction. The shuriken all fly with unerring accuracy towards the target, even going as far as to alter their path of movement slightly, at a speed equal to Kotaro's strength to make the illusion seem more real. The illusion ends once the shuriken pass the target or 'hit' the target, dealing no damage and fading into nothingness afterwards.

[Genjutsu • Paranoid]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
Kotaro will begin by channeling chakra throughout his body, then he will point indiscriminately. Should the target see the pointing motion, they'll be captured in this genjutsu. For the following 4 posts, the target will see a shadow in the corner of their eyes, constantly shifting out of view when they attempt to look at it.

[Genjutsu • Smell Of The Deceased]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
An illusionary jutsu that, after channeling chakra and performing a single hand seal as the trigger, causes the target to begin to smell rotting flesh and decaying bodies. The jutsu can cause nausea and vomiting from the target, depending on how sensitive their sense of smell is, and begins once the victim witnesses the user perform the hand seals. The smell of the dead can also cause some mental stress on the target. This genjutsu lasts for three (3) posts.

[Genjutsu • Binding]
D-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
Kotaro will begin by channeling chakra throughout his body, then he will extend a hand out to his target and clench it into a fist. If the target sees him do this, They will suddenly feel an invisible force begin to hold them in place. The target will have until the end of their next post to Kai the genjutsu, or they will be bound in place by invisible force requiring a strength of 5 or more to escape from.

[Genjutsu • Dull Pain]
C-Ranked Status Genjutsu
Kotaro begins by channeling chakra through his body, and then locks eyes with his target to trap the target in the genjutsu. For the next 10 posts, any pain that the target feels as if nothing really happened, effectively lessening all pain and nerve responses. The target would still be damaged, but any damage done to them would feel as though it hadn't happened, and as such they will usually overestimate their own stamina.

[Genjutsu • Burning to Death]
C-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
This is a genjutsu technique which can be used in quite a few ways. Kotaro begins by channeling chakra throught his body before performing a hand seal, and as long as the opponent(s) see it, then the genjutsu will begin. The user and the opponent(s) will both light on fire and start to burn, from the feet up to the head, in the opponent's mind. The opponent will normally start to panic and try to get rid of the fire, especially since they feel as if they were in actual pain. This genjutsu lasts for 4 posts and will not appear to be able to be extinguished, no matter what the victim does. The illusion is very static, in the sense that it doesn't change with the environment, it merely creates an illusory flame and pain.

[Genjutsu • Great Illusionary Barrage]
C-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
After channeling chakra throughout his body, Kotaro will reach for his ninja pouch. Should the target see him reach for the pouch, they will see him pull out a single shuriken. After throwing said shuriken, the opponent will then see a poof of white smoke, followed by the appearance of 30 additional shuriken all flying towards them.

[Genjutsu • Shadow Binding]
C-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
Kotaro will begin by channeling chakra throughout his body, then he will extend a hand out to his target and clench it into a fist. If the target sees him do this, They will suddenly watch their own shadow wind up around their body, holding them in place. The target will have until the end of their next post to Kai the genjutsu, or they will be bound in place by their shadow's force, requiring a strength of 10 or more to escape from.

[Genjutsu • Mirror Assault]
C-Ranked Illusion Genjutsu
After channeling chakra throughout his body, Kotaro will perform a single hand seal. If the target sees him perform this seal, they will suddenly see five clones of Kotaro poof into existence at his left and right, about 3 feet away from each other. The clones will then proceed to move in on the target and attempt to use various Jyuuken techniques against them, moving with the same speed as Kotaro as they do so. They can also evoke the illusion of force with their blows, allowing the clones to hit with 10 strength worth of force with their attacks, though these attacks do no actual damage to the opponent. This is meant to confuse the target as to which one is truly Kotaro, giving him a better chance of landing an attack against the target. These clones last for 4 posts, at which point any pain or damage they caused will seem to disappear.
Mantis StyleShow
Mantis Style:
A style of Kotaro's own invention, he was inspired after watching a praying mantis capture an insect with lightning fast speed. As such, this style focuses less on the strength of his body and more on his speed and knowledge of anatomy. Using this style, Kotaro will use the fundamental strengths of Jyuuken, but without chakra. Instead, he will aim for pressure points and areas of weakness; Eyes, nose, throat, armpits and certain organs such as the kidneys and liver are just a few of the areas that make good targets for this style.
Requires: [Upper Body], [Medicine] and [Deft Hands] Concentrations
Mantis Grip
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Kotaro will reach out with his thumb, index and middle fingers, aiming to grab his opponent by a vital and painful area before digging in with his finger strength. Common targets are the trapezius muscles, under the armpit, wrists and the pressure point between their thumb and index fingers. Not only does latching on to these areas cause great pain in his opponent, it is also capable of crippling their movement should they prove unable to escape his grip. A target attempting to escape this grip requires more Taijutsu than Kotaro to escape.

Mantis Sight
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
A reflection of Kotaro's training in the Mantis Style, Kotaro has become much more adept at locating the weak points of his opponent without the need for his Byakugan. By continuous study of the human body and practice against various sparring partners of different shapes and sizes, Kotaro is able to attack the pressure points and exposed areas of his opponents with incredible accuracy.

Mantis Jab
C-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Based on the fundamental attacks of Jyuuken, when engaged in a hand to hand fight, Kotaro will jab at his opponent using his index and middle fingers instead of a fully clenched fist. This method of striking carries all of the same strength of a normal punch in it, but instead of being spread out over the area of a fist, the damage is condensed into the small area that the fingers connect with. This causes intense pain within smaller areas as opposed to the normal pain of a punch. This manner of striking, when combined with the accuracy from Mantis Sight, enable's Kotaro to deal incredible damage to an opponent with only a few well placed strikes to key areas.
Art of MedicineShow
Arts of Medicine:
This user has educated themselves in traditional medicine, and is able to treat and care for wounds in methods taught to medicine men and doctors that don't utilize chakra.
Requires: [Medicine] and [Deft Hands] Concentrations
*[Medicinal Style • Injury Assessment]

Unlike the mystical means of diagnosis utilized through iijutsu, those who utilize the Arts of Medicine must learn the most effective manner to assess a patient. Learners of this discipline have learn the most effective manner to diagnose a patient, starting at the head, and assessing for head wounds, then moving down through the torso, both arms, the groin area, both legs, then the back. Those who learn this discipline will be able to account for any wounds that present with physical symptoms on a patient.

*[Medicinal Style • Pressure Points]
D-rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user has learned all appropriate pressure points on a body. In the event of bleeding, they know where to apply pressure to slow the bleeding while treatment is administered.

HistoryShow
Kotaro was born an only child to Kazuro and Momochi Hyuuga without any complications during the pregnancy or birth. However, shortly after his birth, his father fell ill and died before he had any memory of the man. All he had ever been told was that he was a dedicated shinobi who had performed his duties admirably. His mother, a shinobi as well, did all she could to teach him in the ways of their clan. However, when the time came to decide whether he would enlist in the academy or not, she left the decision up to Kotaro. It wasn’t an immediate choice either, he spent a lot of time thinking about whether he wanted to follow in his parent’s footsteps or go his own way. The deciding moment that led to his choosing to be a ninja was the awakening of his Byakugan at the young age of 8. On that day, he looked at all of the elders of the past and present and chose none of them. Instead, he looked to one of the oddest Hyuuga in the village; Aina. Her refusal to adhere to traditions was something he respected; he didn't like many of the Hyuuga traditions and didn't want to partake in the rite of passage anyway. Naturally, he was looked down on for this decision, but he still made his decision to join the academy at the age of 9.

His time in the academy taught him much about his skills as a ninja, such as his affinity for Raiton and his love of the Hyuuga clan’s Jyuuken techniques, but above all it taught him his affinity and desire to study genjutsu. The art seemed to fit his talents like a glove, he had a knack for it and a burning desire to advance his genjutsu capabilities. Another thing he picked up during his time at the academy was his love of woodcarving, which he learned from a Senju by the name of Ayashi. Though the air between the Senju and Hyuuga clans was a bit thick, Kotaro found the boy's work to be intriguing. After a few days of teaching him the basics of the craft, Kotaro returned home one day after his teachings to search the house for a knife, so that he could begin crafting his own wooden sculptures. During his search, he happened upon a simple looking dagger with no cross guard.

He took the dagger to his mother to show it to her, and Momochi explained that the dagger had belonged to Kotaro's father. Given that the man was now deceased, it would make a good keepsake for the boy, so Momochi agreed to let him hold on to the blade under the condition that he not use it in a fight unless absolutely necessary. Her reasoning was simple; "a blade of such sentiment shouldn't be sullied by the stains of blood, lest your feelings of your father be tarnished as well." Kotaro agreed and quickly went to work that day on a sculpture of his own. By the time his academy days were done and he had officially graduated to the rank of genin, Kotaro had finished his first masterpiece; a simple carving of a deer, which he gave to Ayashi as thanks for teaching him how to get started. Of course, it was only the first of many works of art the boy would carve in his days.

More tragedy struck Kotaro shortly after he advanced to the rank of genin... shortly after his first mission, his mother fell ill as well; the same sickness that claimed his father. He was with her for the rest of the month, catering to her every whim and taking her to the hospital for treatments. However, it did little to no good, and within 2 months Momochi passed away, leaving Kotaro orphaned and alone. One of the families within the Hyuuga clan took him in, but he felt so out of place with them... they weren't his family. As a method of grieving, the young Hyuuga practically shut himself away for weeks, only coming out once in a while to eat before returning to his room to be alone. After about 3 weeks of this, his foster father told him that he could either get out there and fulfill his duties as a ninja, or he could find a new place to live. In response, Kotaro reached under his bed and pulled out what he had been working on the last 3 weeks; a wooden statue of his mother. He had put all of his sorrow and pain into his work, using his father's dagger to carve his mother's image. It made him feel like they were still with him in some way, like his mother was standing over his shoulder and watching him work with a smile on her face. The man of course cared nothing for his sorrow, being that he was already frowned upon by most of the clan, and held true to his ultimatum. Reluctantly Kotaro agreed as he didn't really have a choice in the matter, and proceeded to go back to work as a genin.

When the time came to take his chuunin exam, Kotaro was placed on a team with a Tai focused Inuzuka and a Nin focused Aburame. Their proctor was a Yamanaka who was skilled in a multitude of skills, not the least of which was the Yamanaka's mind control techniques. Their proctor easily had the upper hand after using a technique to take control of their Inuzuka partner, turning it into a two versus two fight. After a bit of back and forth fighting, Kotaro dropped a smoke bomb between him and his partner and took a moment to come up with a plan. He figured that if he could make it so that the Yamanaka couldn't use his mind control stuff, they would be able to win as a full team. So the Aburame proceeded to make a clone out of his Kikaichu in the shape of Kotaro, while Kotaro used Henge to turn into a fumah shuriken. The clone then carried the fumah shuriken out of the smoke and tossed it at the Yamanaka, which the proctor easily dodged away from. After it whizzed past him, Kotaro popped out of the henge and delivered the 32 trigrams to the Yamanaka, weakening his control enough that their Inuzuka partner was able to free himself from the proctor's control. That attack was followed up by the Aburame's clone closing in and dispersing into Kikaichu, covering the proctor. From there the match was over, as the three genin surrounded the yamanaka covered in Kikaichu and the judges ended the fight before someone got seriously hurt. All three of the teammates were promoted to chuunin for not only beating their proctor, but not bringing much harm to the Inuzuka teammate despite his attacking them full force. With his promotion going smoothly, his foster parents have let up a bit on his obsession with his hobby, but he still had no love for them, nor a desire to stay there longer than he had to. Nevertheless, he graduated to chuunin at the age of 16, and was ready to continue with his career.
