CHINATSU MANAMI
血液子
’Ketsueki-ko’

[“By Oath… By Blood.”]

General Information Age: 25
Gender: Female
Height: 5’7’’
Weight: 140 lbs
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Manami features very pale skin, despite her life on the road. Vibrant red hair flows down past her shoulders and is usually kept flowing free, sometimes with a small braid running down the middle. Her eyes are a bright blue, it’s rumored she always sees the truth in things.
  • Body: Manami has dedicated her life to training her body, and it is reflected in her muscle structure. She has a fairly lean build for the most part but still certain well rounded assets keep her form feminine.
  • Notable Features: Manami has several small scars, but also a few prominent ones. On the right side of her face she has a scar that runs from just shy of her earlobe to between the corner of her lips and her jaw. She has another scar on her left side that runs diagonally down her ribs and toward her belly button. Lastly she has a scar that runs down her right shoulder nearly to her elbow. Lastly she has a tattoo on the right side of her neck of the symbol of her faith, Jashinism.
Clothing/Accessories: Manami often wears a variation of traditional samurai robes, mostly a deep grey, almost black, with some tan detailing. She likes a light grey flame style lineart throughout as well. She wears armguards that are not quite strong enough to be considered true armor.
Personality:
  • General: Manami is, above all, highly religious. Just about everything she does is steeped in tradition and ritual, if not as a personal taste then as an actual part of her faith. She is a Jashinist through and through, revering the spilling of blood as the most sacred of acts and so dedicates every drop spilled, and every death at the end of her blade, to Jashin. She is seen by many, at best, a bit odd. She is often quiet, speaking only when she feels the need or it fits the situation. Though even as part of her faith, in her own way, she is a very sexual being. She views her own pleasure only second to her god’s and so is not afraid to take someone to her bed after an especially difficult kill.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Hopes and Dreams do not factor into Manami’s life. However she does have a deep desire to learn more of the world, especially coveting knowledge that may help her in a fight (for example: researching shinobi and their power). Her only true desire is to please Jashin, and she keeps no dream for herself.
  • Fears: Manami’s only true fear is that she might lose her faith and fail Jashin in some way.
  • Combat Mentality: Manami is all about taijutsu and the spilling of blood. As such she prefers to get up in her opponent’s face and rip them to pieces, only adjusting from this mentality when it is necessary to take her opponent down (her own survival does not factor into her reasoning).

Toryu StyleShow
Toryu Kenjutsu:
Toryu Kenjutsu is a sword style originating from the Land of Pebbles that focuses on not just performing kenjutsu but also weaving close quarters style taijutsu into the bladework. Toryu's specialty is not only learning to capably slash a sword with one hand but also learning to use the hands, joints, legs and even the head to make frighteningly dangerous close quarters fighters. An inelegant style, it is commonly associated with the more 'rough' samurai but in truth it's reliance on two opposing impulses and control of the body makes it one of the more difficult Kenjutsu styles to learn. While usable with most blades, experienced fighters often prefer wakizashi, ninjato and even tanto daggers instead of katana for increased mobility.
D Rank:
*[Toryu • Close Quarters]
D- Ranked Kenjutsu Stance
Prerequisite: 5 Taijutsu
The signature stance of the style, Close Quarters teaches users of this style how to rapidly change the angle, position and even grip of their weapon without moving their hand from it's signature position at the user's waist for maximum versatility. Users of this style often assume a one foot forward, one back, slightly swayed stance to free up movement as well at the expense of leaving their center open.

*[Toryu • Lunging Feint]
D-Ranked Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Speed
A basic technique of the style wherein the user moves in for a basic lunge-thrust with their weapon, only to turn in mid thrust and attempt to sweep their leg under the opponent's own. This tends to be useful as a basic feint and can usually knock down those with less strength than the user who get caught by it.

*[Toryu • Guard Break]
D-Ranked Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Strength
After rushing in on a foe and initiating an attack the user waits for the opponent to guard, either with arm or weapon, before quickly lashing out with their hand or pommel of their blade and attempting to smash the guarding hand or arm aside with a wrist smash. The pain as well as damage can interrupt the guard of opponents, leaving them wide open for the initial attack to hit.

*[Toryu • Limb Lock]
D-Ranked Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: *[Toryu • Close Quarters] , 5 Taijutsu
A dangerous close quarters 'option closer', the Toryu user will sweep in close and try to slam their foot down on an opponent's as well as quickly sweep their arm around the opponent's to lock their elbow with the user's own. This technique is usually utilized for setting up blows or blocking off the weapons of dual-wielding foes and it forces the opponent to break out of the move before counter-attacking.

*[Toryu • Counter Kick]
D-Ranked Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Taijutsu, 5 Strength
The user of this technique will attempt to block the blow of his opponent with his blade, relying heavily on the durability of their weapon and their own strength to resist the strength of the opponent's attack. Should they be successful, the user will follow up with a swift kick to the target's chest or stomach to push them away and stun them, then follow up with a quick stab to the chest or stomach.
Totem StyleShow
Totem Style:
This style of fighting seeks to emulate the movements of animals. Those skilled in its use can make quick strikes as a snake, powerful takedowns as the bear, or devastating charges as the bison. A true master will know how to combine each of these into a cohesive and dangerous combat art.
Requires [Upper Body] and [Lower Body]
D Rank:
*[Totem Style • Cobra's Strikes]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
The user folds their hands over where the thumb and fingers make a cone-like point. Their defenses consist of dips and sways to dodge attacks. Their offenses are focused on pin point application of pressure using these points and lightning quick strikes.

*[Totem Style • Bear's Endurance]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
The user takes a stable stance with their arms wide and their legs slightly past their shoulders. They are turned slightly so either shoulder is facing their opponent. This stance emphasizes powerful sweeping blows that are designed to break bones and cause great damage. Defense is resilience and forcing through to cause your own strikes to land through theirs.

*[Totem Style • Tiger's Hunt]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
The user's stance is low and focused on fluidity. They advance with each attack given or received, dodging to the left or right rapidly but always closing the gap. Once closed they attack with rapid, if unaimed, strikes focused on overwhelming their opponent.

*[Totem Style • Turtle's Shell]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
This stance is focused on resilient defenses at the sacrifice of nearly all offensive ability. The user holds their hands open and their body perpendicular to their target. They use their strongest points to absorb incoming damage, protecting their core. Often they will grab or redirect attacks to simulate them sliding off a turtle's shell.

*[Totem Style • Balance]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
This is a neutral state that is often the start of most combat. It consists of feet spread shoulder width and arms held in a prayer-like position. They focus their senses to best understand which stances will be needed, and cleanse their habits from other stances to better emulate their next one.
Strong Fist StyleShow
Strong Fist:
This style focuses on being overall more physically powerful than your opponent. Users attempt to overwhelm defenses with great speed and strength while chipping away at their opponent’s stamina and keeping their own at the highest possible. Most attacks are simple in execution but extremely powerful in effect, causing battles of attrition to be in their favor.
Requires: [Upper Body] & [Lower Body] Concentrations
D Rank:
*[Strong Fist Style • Balance]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Stance
A neutral stance taken by even entry level practitioners. This stance involves turning your body to be perpendicular to your opponent. One foot is rested directly in front of the other with just the toes in contact with the ground. A hand is held back while the other is forward, pointing up. This stance provides ease of dodging incoming blows by using the least amount of motion possible while still being ready to launch into an attack.

*[Strong Fist Style • Leaf Gale]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
A simple sweeping kick aimed low to knock the opponent off balance.

*[Strong Fist Style • Dynamic Entry]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
In this technique, the user builds momentum and speed in order to bridge the gap between themselves and a distanced target. After covering an appropriate distance, the user then lets loose a form of distraction, like a thrown object, in order to misdirect the target's attention. The user then leaps with their momentum, delivering a strong kick to bridge the rest of the distance.

*[Strong Fist Style • Dynamic Action]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Because distances tend to become the problem in most taijutsu, the practitioner will advance with every strike. This creates a tempo of advancement that is designed to wear down their opponent through ever pressing strikes, giving little chance for escape or recovery.

*[Strong Fist Style • One Inch Punch]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
When fighting in close quarters it becomes difficult to generate energy for full powered strikes. Practitioners have learned how to explode force from every muscle with minimal energy wasted and space needed. Every strike done by the practitioner has the potential to be at full strength, so long as they have at least one inch of movement.

History Chinatsu Manami has no idea what her given name really was. Born into a farming family in Dragon Country, her start at life was bland, at least for the first couple of years. Her family already had a son, ten years old or so by time the girl herself was born, as her mother called her a “happy little oops”. She was spoiled as much as she could be, raised among farm animals and best known for trying to chase after some of the rabbits her family owned for both meat and fur. Unfortunately her given family suffered a demise not uncommon in Dragon Country, their farm was hit by a group of bandits. Her parents were murdered and the girl and her older brother were left orphans in the home.

Families from a nearby village heard of the tragedy and immediately set in to try and help the pair, but by time they arrived Manami herself was gone. She had already been found by a passerby, and her brother left behind as he hadn’t been in the same location as the girl at the time. The traveler would take Manami to a corner of Dragon Country known to house a small orphanage, run by a follower of Jashin. It was there that she was given her new name, and raised into that faith of pain and chaos.

The young girl became a devout of the faith, coming to believe that her parents were blessed by the pain of their death and into the next life, one where Jashin would bless them as she hoped to one day be blessed. By time she was ten she was practicing her faith in her own way, obliging her own body with blood and pain that one day she would be strong enough to visit upon others. By that age she was seeking out samurai as they would visit the area and attempted to learn what she could of them and their ways, taking her first steps into the kenjutsu and taijutsu that would later become a definitive part of her life.

When she reached the age of sixteen she walked away from that orphanage, blessed by the man who raised her as his own and into the faith to go into the world and find her own way by Jashin. She first dipped into her learning of combat, taking on more knowledge that she could better defend herself and over time she came to know more about the life some lead as mercenaries and the like. She began to take on jobs, often killing her targets and offering their pain and death to Jashin. The money she earned she often kept only a fraction of, enough to eat off of and survive, the rest she gave to orphanages and other such establishments as she passed through the world. In the contracts she took she avoided killing children, that definition varying based upon capability. As an example, she views a thirteen year old shinobi as an adult, not a child, because of their own ability to cause pain and even death with their ways of chakra. But a thirteen year old with no combat skills she viewed as a simple child.

She often took on contracts that involved killing individuals who were criminals in their own land, in one way or another, and even some that did not pay if she found the details made it worth it. At this point in her life the woman wanders the world, seeking only those to deliver to Jashin by blood, or conversion, seemingly without a care for the family she has lost and only for the ‘family’ she has embraced.
