Physical Features:
  • Face/head: As with all Aburame, Hotaru’s eyes are always hidden behind a totally obscuring visor. She even sleeps with it on. Her head is very commonly shaped, however, she has fallen in love with the Hairstyles worn by the Hyuuga women and has styled her to match.
  • Body: Hotaru as a Genjutsu specialist, is not as built as her Taijutsu compatriots. But she is not overweight. Her last boyfriend preferred to call her thick in the right way. Despite her loose clothing, she is proud of her form.
  • Notable Features:Under the clothing, Hotaru's body is riddled with burrowing scars and holes from which her insects can leave from.
Clothing/Accessories: With better control over her insects, Hotaru is able to wear less baggy clothing on a normal basis. As she is still a mission based shinobi, she tries to wear clothing that facilitates quick movement and comfort. Her primary look consists of a purple hoodie with the Word “REALXEYES” in bold White text across her chest. Underneath it in a more elegant text not so bolded is her Nindo “You’re the Only One”. Over this hoodie is a black Haori with her clans logo on the back. Black Hakama are added to this though her shinobi boots are a very bright neon green coloration. Over her eyes and around her head is an odd shaped visor style headpiece. Over the eyes are two large lenses that are patterned like Compound Eyes. Between them are two protruding hard antena like pieces in bright green. The bright green forms a sort of exoskeleton appearance around the eyes. The rest of the way around her head is hard matte black material, snapped in place under her long hair.

  • General: Hotaru is a cheerful individual who loves to make people laugh, although she is horrible at it. She will go to great lengths to ensure the happiness of those around her. Her primary weapon to make people laugh as situational puns. To emphasize the point that she made a joke, she will point her paper fan in a closed position towards the intended target and use her catchphrase “HohoHotaru!” instead of just saying something like, “that was a Joke” or Just Kidding.” However she absolutely will not hesitate when the happiness of others is in Jeopardy. Weather that is an abusive parent, a Ninja invading force. Or someone telling another person that what they like is stupid.
  • Hopes/Dreams: To one day be known as a Stand up Comedian.
  • Fears: That there is nothing she can do to make someone happy.
  • Combat Mentality: Like all Aburame. Her combat is primarily used with her Kichu Swarms. Her combat style focuses on a rather predictable pattern. Plant a beetle on her target, Utilize Genjutsu. Then break their face when they are distracted. While the pattern is predictable, How she goes about each step will vary based on the situation. If she feels like something is not right, she will enter her Mushi Sight stance and analyze everything around her.

First AbilityMutated Bred: Yureikonchu The Yureikonchu were originally bred from the Shijikonchu. These crystal clear beetles have evolved after generations of being under Genjutsu as a Genin. The host of this swarm can initiate Genjutsu using the beetles as a substitute trigger instead of one of the 5 normal senses. The user must still maintain a certain distance based on the rank of the swarm.

This follows the normal rules of channeling, as it is essentially channeling using the user's Yureikonchū as a medium.

Grand Coordination is an umbrella ninpou style developed by the Aburame family for use with their swarms. It techniques grant greater utility and the ability to manipulate swarms at a more advanced level.

A character with this concentration is able to utilize Raiton, and can make and use any custom or archived jutsu that require the Raiton affinity. Raiton has a shocking effect.

Raiton has the effect of shocking, which causes its effect to be diffuse upon impact. In organic material, this causes nervous stimulation which results in numbness, tingling, loss of sensation, and sometimes paralysis. In inorganic material, this means that the strength of the jutsu diffuses across an area 2x the size of the attack. In a jutsu that creates a lightning ball 2m in diameter, if it struck a wall the size of the attack would cover a 4m area.

Additionally, the strength of the nervous effect on organic material from raiton jutsu is determined by the Strength stat range they fall into.

This user has learned how to utilize Status Genjutsu that impose mental and cognitive effects on their target.
Overlay Genjutsu:
This user has learned to create entire worlds in the heads of their targets. These genjutsu allow the user to completely recreate reality within the heads of their target, and interact with them in various ways through the techniques. Overlay stand out as a threat in genjutsu users as they lapse on a single second in real time, but can last extremely long in the heads of the target.
Warp Genjutsu:
This user has learned to combine the basics of Status and Illusion genjutsu, allowing them to use single techniques to create sensory illusions, as well as status changes on their target.
Illusion of Force Genjutsu:
This user has learned to add a physical component when using genjutsu, allowing them to create the sensation of pulling, pushing, or evoking some force against their target.
Sight Initiation:
This user has learned to use visual cues to initiate genjutsu. Allowing them to perform actions, or draw the eyes to something to capture their targets in a genjutsu.
Sound Initiation:
This user has learned to use sound cues to initiate genjutsu. Allowing them to create sounds and sustain sounds to capture their targets in a genjutsu.
Scent Initiation:
This user has learned to use smells to initiate genjutsu. Allowing them to utilize and produce various scents to capture their targets in genjutsu.

This user has learned to use physical sensations to initiate genjutsu. Allowing them to physical touch the target, or touch them with objects to capture their targets in genjutsu.
Sensor Initiation:
This user has learned to use their chakra's presence to initiate genjutsu. Allowing them to initiate genjutsu in people who notice them with sensory techniques.
Genjutsu: Advanced Channeling:
This user has superb chakra control, and has learned to perform jutsu by channeling, without the use of hand seals. The user can channel any Genjutsu that is designed to be channel, and there are no specified parameters in which a jutsu must fall to be channeled by this method. Channeled Genjutsu cause the user to be surrounded in an aura of chakra while channeling the genjutsu, until the genjutsu is initiated.

After the appropriate hand seals, the Aburame shuts one eye, transferring it's sight to one of their mushi. The view from this mushi allows for the discerning size, shape, distance, and minor details, lacking the ability to examine intricate details, such as text in a book. The mushi can travel up to a mile away before the link between the Aburame is broken and the technique lasts as long as the Aburame keeps their eye closed for a maximum of six posts.

After the appropriate hand seals, the Aburame fires off a 2 inch diameter clump of insects at a strength of [Control] and speed of [Control] up to 10 meters away before dispersing. Upon impact, they spread over an area of 5 inches.

After the appropriate hand seals, the Aburame forms a 1 inch diameter ball of mushi, which they can then toss at an opponent, the ball sticking to them at a strength of [Control]. Anytime within the next three posts, kai can be used to cause the bugs to spread out at a force equal to [Control] with a range of 10 meters. This explosion does not kill the mushi as the main danger comes from the force of the mushi's mandibles. This jutsu can help the user spread out the mushi and attach them to a target quickly as well.

The Aburame will command mushi within 10 meters to form a shape that is under 1 meter in diameter with a speed of [Control]. After, they will perform a set of hand seals that locks the mushi together and reinforces them with a layer of chakra armor that has a strength of [Control].

~Pheromone Tracker
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
The Aburame will command a female mushi to attach itself to a designated target and hide itself using its small form and silent movement. After attaching itself, the mushi will then release an abnormal amount of pheromones. The male mushi of that breed can then trace the pheromone trail, allowing the Aburame to effectively track the marked target. The males can only track the female within a three mile radius, and after five posts, the female mushi does not have the chakra to produce excess pheromones and tracking is reduced to 1/2 mile.

After the appropriate hand seals, the Aburame holds the last seal before firing off a 2 inch diameter stream of insects in a straight line up to 25 meters away. The insects fly forth at a strength and speed equal to the users [Control] and upon impact use their mandibles to claw and tear at the target. This can be held for a maximum of two posts.

The Aburame will command mushi within 25 meters to form a shape that is under 5x5x5 meters with a speed of [Control]. After, they will perform a set of hand seals that locks the mushi together and reinforces them with a layer of chakra armor that has a strength of [Control].

By channeling their chakra into their swarm and holding the final seal, the Aburame raises the pheromones of one of their swarms to unnatural levels, causing them to rapidly breed, creating larvae by the end of the post. If the Aburame continues to channel chakra into their swarm for another post, the larvae will rapidly hatch and grow into adult mushi, replenishing the ranks of the swarm.

After the appropriate hand seals, the Aburame member's mushi are gathered into one place and pattern themselves after the user or anyone else they choose. The technique is elaborate enough to be mistaken for the original, and therefore may be used as a decoy or as part of a diversionary tactic. The clone replicates the stats of the user, and lasts for [Control]/5 posts. When the clone is destroyed or dissipates, the clone falls apart into Mushi that fly back into the swarm.

After the proper hand seals the Aburame will have the mushi crawl across their skin to form a layer of mushi. At first this seems like armor however when the opponent makes physical contact with the Aburame, the mushi will immediately attach to the opponent and begin to claw and tear causing lacerations. The mushi clings with [Control] strength to the opponent.

A neutral stance taken by even entry level practitioners. This stance involves turning your body to be perpendicular to your opponent. One foot is rested directly in front of the other with just the toes in contact with the ground. A hand is held back while the other is forward, pointing up. This stance provides ease of dodging incoming blows by using the least amount of motion possible while still being ready to launch into an attack.

The user then leaps with their momentum, delivering a strong kick to bridge the rest of the distance.

Because distances tend to become the problem in most taijutsu, the practitioner will advance with every strike. This creates a tempo of advancement that is designed to wear down their opponent through ever pressing strikes, giving little chance for escape or recovery.

When fighting in close quarters it becomes difficult to generate energy for full powered strikes. Practitioners have learned how to explode force from every muscle with minimal energy wasted and space needed. The user will tense the muscles in their lower body to a great degree. Doing so causes them to briefly become immobile but creates an enormous amount of pent up energy. By bringing their back leg forward in a straight kick they release all of this energy in a single explosive burst that will knock a kicked foe back a number of meters equal to the difference in their strength and the practitioner's.

A combination attack started by the user unleashing a powerful kick to the side of their opponent. They will then place themselves behind the target and unleash a quick flurry of punches before kicking another side and repeating the process. This process can keep going ad infinitum or until the practitioner disengages.

An attack that is slow to wind up but powerful in execution. The adept tenses every muscle in their shoulders and arms while twisting their core for a powerful strike. For the 1/4 post they spend winding up they're treated as having a -6 speed. However, when the strike is released it comes at a +6 strength.

A kick meant to disrupt the opponent that can be launched from nearly any position. This kick is delivered quickly with +6 Speed but with -6 Strength and is aimed at any possible opening and extremely difficult to defend against, quickening the tempo the practitioner is keeping.

An often difficult attack to accomplish but good for setting up a string of further attacks. The user will sweep low, attempting to kick their target's feet from beneath them. Before they fall, a second kick will attempt to launch them airborne a number of meters equal to the difference in the practitioner's strength from their target.

B-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Requiring a full post of charge time the user tenses their entire body in preparation, becoming immobile. During this time they will look for their direct path and position themselves with their fist pointed forward. At the end of the post they will release all of this pent up energy with extreme force, leaping nearly instantaneously a number of meters equal to their strength. This counts as a teleportation and cannot be done more than twice per thread.

B-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
The user delivers an upward kick to their opponent, sending them high into the air. The user follows the opponent along their upward trajectory, taking tight hold of them so that they can't move or escape. Once they've reached the peak of the initial kick's arc, the user begins a spinning motion and propels them headfirst towards the ground. The user releases the opponent right before impact and retreats to safety, leaving the opponent to collide with the ground alone.

An Advanced stance where the user stands completely facing the opponent, arms to the side and feet shoulder width apart. While in this stance, the user is coiled like a viper ready to counterstrike the moment the target hits them. After taking a hit they may instantly launch any C-Rank or lower taijutsu technique.

Hotaru brings out a small swarm of beetles and has them simply fly around the target. When they see the beatles, they transform into bright colorful butterflies that swirl around them obstructing the view around them.

After Hotaru latches a single beetle on the intended target, she can channel her chakra through them and into the sound the beetle’s wings give off. After the first buzz, any word that starts with a vowel is replaced by a buzzing sound. This lasts for three posts.

The Yureikonchu can emit a scented spray as they fly. When Hotaru channels her chakra into this lightly clean scent, it quickly changes to that of Fresh barbeque for anyone that smells it. This lasts for three posts.

Crawling Skin

After channeling her chakra through her insects, she can make the target feel as if the beatles are burrowing through their skin. This last for three post

Fly in my Throat

After channeling her chakra into a single beetle, Hotaru will send them to fly directly into the target’s mouth and spray. After tasting the slightly sweet flavor, everything they taste will be bitter. This lasts for three posts.

They Live
C-Rank Status Genjutsu
Hotaru channels her chakra into a small clutch of beetles that flies towards the target. After they see the beatles. Any of their allies they see they begin to increasingly suspect that they are Insects in disguise.

Hohohotaru!
C-Rank Status Genjutsu
Utilizing the spray of her Insects, Hotaru will channel her chakra through them to trap up to four individuals in her genjutsu. Afterwards, She will make a Horrible pun and use her catchphrase. Those touched by the spray that hears the catchphrase will feel an unmistakable urge to laugh. They may fight it, but each subsequent pun that follows that will make it harder to resist. This post lasts for [Control]/5 post.

Memory Lane
C-Rank Status Genjutsu
This is a three post genjutsu. Instead of initiating physical contact. Hotaru will have her insects emit their lightly scented cloud. The target will smell it as a trigger for the memories. Until the genjutsu ends the target is able to remember a lot more about their past and has a lighter barrier over their consciousness making it easier for them to spill information. This memory is always started with something about the scents in the area at the time. This doesn’t weaken their will, however, meaning if they are aware it’s a genjutsu, they are more than capable of using Kai.

Raiton: Stun Gun
C-Rank Status Genjutsu
Hotaru will channel her chakra into two insects and then aim her fingers like a gun. After “pulling the trigger, the two beetles will launch forward and land on the target’s body. Feeling the insects' land will trigger the sensation of the Raiton Element’s Shocking Passive. The strength of this jutsu is the User’s [Willpower]. No actual Raiton Jutsu is actually used. This lasts for five posts. During each post, the Hotaru can trigger it again to send another shock through them.

C-Rank Illusion Genjutsu
Activating this jutsu while in the presence of a Sensor has quite an interesting effect. Instead of dulling or blocking their ability to perceive through this sixth sense, Hotaru’s insects will channel her chakra to the Sensor and amplify it. Any living moving thing within their range will trigger within the aspects of their jutsu. For instance, Sensory Style • Evaluation, not only will the sensor pick out Hotaru, but they will also get a ping of each and every insect in her body, the bunny rabbit hiding in the bushes, the birds in the trees, and every ant in the anthill under said tree. This barrage of information can cause a serious headache until either this genjutsu is stopped or the sensory jutsu is halted.

Channeling her chakra through her insects, Hotaru will float them within the target's eye sight. Once they see the swarm, not only will it seem to quadruple in size, but they will feel a fear building up within them for the next four posts. Any jutsu that utilizes the visual presence of the Swarm will only build this fear more.

The Sound of Silence
B-Rank Warp Genjutsu
After channeling her chakra through her insects targeting one individual, she will start talking. Monologuing, telling jokes, that sort of thing. The genjutsu starts when the talking stops. They moment they can no longer hear her, either because she stopped talking, or they covered their ears to avoid an audible trigger. A wave of chills will wash over them as all sound is silenced for the next three posts.

As the user pulls back to tense up their muscles for the strike, They will channel their chakra into a single beetle that has moved onto their fist. Upon contact with the target, the beetle will be smashed into place on them. For the next four posts, the user will perceive all Taijutsu strikes at a -6 Speed but with a +6 Strength. This does not actually affect the user’s strikes. Only how the target experiences them.

A-Rank Illusion of Force Genjutsu
Hotaru will channel her chakra into a large swarm of beetles which will flash over the target. Triggered by the sight of the swarm, when it clears, the target will see a monstrous Giant Hercules Beetle staring down at them. They will then be pinned down by the massive pincers with [Willpower] Force.

Grand Rhinoceros Beetle
A-Rank Illusion of Force Genjutsu
Hotaru will channel her chakra into a large swarm of beetles which will create a cacophony of sounds rubbing into each other. Triggered by hearing this sound, they will feel the Earth Tremble with [Willpower] Force as a monstrous Rhinoceros beetle charges at them with it’s razor sharp horn. The beetle is easily dodged, but everytime it is dodged, the jutsu lasts for another post as the Beetle will turn around and charge for them again. The illusion of the earth trembling feels incredibly real. But the jutsu is dismissed if they take on the attack.

Just before assuming the position for the Flashing Might, the user will channel chakra into their swarm and have it hover in the air in as wide an area as possible. After the technique is launched and they strike their opponent, clones of the user will appear from the swarm of insects from various directions landing punches in a barrage. The punches even feel as though striking with [Willpower] Strength, though no additional damage is taken. The number of clones that appear is equal to the user’s [Swarm].

Ninnin Magical World!
S-Rank Overlay Genjutsu
Getting directly face to face with the target, Hotaru will channel her chakra through the insects in her body and lock eyes with her target. She will then open her visor so they can look directly into her eyes. Once they see the horrific eyes of the Aburame, they are seemingly transported into a dream-like magical world with Crystal towers, beautiful fields of translucent grass, and a nearly eternal twilight. Hotaru will appear atop of a hill dressed in a purple and white lolita style magical girl dress holding a wand with the head of a beetle on the end. She will call herself Ninnin Buggy, but that really isn’t important for this jutsu. The target will then be on the receiving end of any Magical Girl Attacks Hotaru can dream of for up to 205 Hours. In real world time this only last a single instant

Born in the Aburame House, Hotaru was the youngest of three children and the only daughter. She often got picked on by her older brothers growing up, usually because she liked girly things. She made friends with a girl her own age from the Hyuuga clan, Izuyo. Izuyo was able to protect her from her brother’s for the most part. It was with Izuyo that she developed a love of all things beautiful. The Hyuuga women’s hairstyle. Completely straight, straight cut bangs. As long as possible. It made them look like princesses. Puns also made Izuyo laugh big time. The two also shared a love of the Magical Girl manga they often found in the convenience store near the playground.

It was just before their Academy Days when things took a turn for the freinds. Hotaru participated in the Beetle Spring. There she was chosen by a swarm of Shijikonchū to be their host. On this same day, Izuyo was tested for her Byakugan. She failed. When they meet up the next day, Izuyo surprised her with a surprise trip to the store, where she bought Hotaru what would become her signature pair of shades. Large red circular lenses that had a diamond like fiber weave running through it. When they tested at the Academy the next week, Hotaru was accepted, Izayo was not. She showed no potential as a Shinobi.

When her Academy training began, they walked together to the opening ceremony, but Izayo had to leave. This was the last time they would see each other as kids. In the Academy, Hotaru was shown all the basics, and had a decent grasp of them. She wasn’t the best student, but she wasn’t the worst either. What she showed the greatest potential in was Genjutsu. For countless days, she trained with Genjutsu Instructors at the academy and started to create her own style that used the Shijikonchū. However when she talked with her brothers at home, she constantly heard about their need for Taijutsu in battle. SHe needed to find her own style that worked well with her insects.

While exploring the Taijutsu Styles, She came across one style that her brothers just could not stand. They said it was too damaging for their ninjutsu. Strong Fist Style. She remembered the the Hyuuga were the Gentle Fist style. Perhaps the styles had some connection? She took this and ran with it.

After graduation, she was placed on a team made of House Members like her. Inuzuka Fuwa and Yamanaka Yaiba. Fuwa had a large dog by even Inuzuka standards and focused on brute strength. Yaiba was far more skillful and used her House’s jutsu to control animals in most of their battles. They were led by Amatsu Gai. Guy was the one who had previously taught her Strong Fist style. And despite her aptitude in the taijutsu, he placed her in a defensive role, guarding Yaiba’s body when she swapped places with an animal.

Most of their missions as genin did not require this. Despite their team’s seemingly theme of overwhelming power, they did not receive one combat mission the entire time. Not even common bandits. By the time of the Chuunin Exams, Gai didn’t recommend them as they had yet experienced combat. After that year, they were sent on more missions, but this time, they were often sent after animals for some reason. Fuwa developed his Fang Bullet technique. Yaiba became more adept at her mind transfer. But because of her defensive role on the team, and they were frequently against single animals, Hotaru didn’t improve much.

Again the Chuunin Exams came around, and the team was recommended. Fuwa was the first to move on past the Genin stage. Yaiba and herself each lost in the first round. However, Hotaru finally got to test her skills. Her genjutsu was excellent, but because she couldn’t use them in her current role, she had no idea what to use for actual genjutsu combat.

With Fuwa’s promotion, he was often sent on missions where he got to select teammates. Yaiba was always selected. Hotaru ended up in the village more and more. She found an instructor in the Arts of the Mind. He taught her by demonstration and sparring rather than book learning. Under the intense Willpower and pressure of the Genjutsu she was placed in, her beetles started to change.

It took nearly a year for her to be able to go on a mission outside the village. Her Captain. Fuwa. Yaiba had recently been pressing for more protection out in the field. On this one mission, she definitely needed it. They were sent to crush a small bandit camp that had been collecting tolls on the road. When the found the camp, Hotaru stopped them from approaching. There were more bandits than the mission said. Instead, she asked her Captain to trust her. From their hiding spot, Hotaru released a small group of her beetles and had them just fly through the center of camp. Just as Yaiba was about to suggest they were wasting time, some of the bandits started to turn on each other. Hotaru had planted a seed of betrayal in some of their minds. This affected bandits were screaming about Bugs in Human skin. Fuwa and yaiba were then able to clean up the rest.

Hotaru was taken on many more missions following that. Like her team was before, she had a brute strength, just one she could exercise from the shadows before breaking faces. In the next Chuunin Exam, Yaiba and Hotaru were able to take part with the addition of a genin that was the last of his team to be promoted, Nara Oojika. They didn’t have the best chemistry, but their experience in their fields more than made up for it. Yaiba was the next to be promoted though.

Oojika ended up leaving the program after that year. It would take three more years before Hotaru would be promoted to Chuunin. With the promotion, she was able to lead a few other genin teams, She ended up picking them not because of their abilities, but because they were left behind, like she was. Many of the missions were overnight, or extended trip missions, during which she attempted to lighten their hearts a bit and find their strengths.

Now at age 18, she was able to move out to her own place. While still a member of the Aburame house, she at least was able to attempt a more individual life. It was around this time, she was told her insects had become a mutated breed by one of the House’s best analysts. The Beetles within her had become more used to Genjutsu and evolved to further facilitate it.

One night, she was approached by Yaiba and Fuwa to reform their old team for one last mission. Gai had left the village, kidnapping a woman who rejected him. She agreed quite quickly. Between her insects and Fuwa and Naki’s sense of scent, they were able to find him nearing the border. The woman he had kidnapped that rejected him was Izuyo. Fuwa and yaiba had no clue who she was, but Hotaru launched right into Gai with the hardest punch she had ever thrown in her life. While the battle between the four went on for an hour, the moment Gai targeted Izuyo with a lightning jutsu, Hotaru stepped in the way. Her anger had passed all levels at this point. Without thinking, without experimenting, she started to mold and channel more chakra than she had in her entire life. All of it going through her mutated beetles. When he saw the beetle swarm in a frenzy, all Fuwa saw was Gai screaming and falling on his back. What he saw was the largest insect ever pushing him down.

Back home, Izuyo and Hotaru talked about what happened after they last saw each other. Isuyo was never able to achieve her Byakugan and was viewed as cursed. Her parents took care of her away from the Hyuuga Compound until she was 18, and then she was completely cut off. She met Gai during a marriage interview and instantly rejected him because he was claiming to be 20 while he was clearly near his 50’s. Izuyo was working as a waitress at a restaurant nearby making ends meet. While Gai wouldn’t bother her anymore, Hotaru asked if she would be interested in a roommate? Since then the two have been sharing a three bedroom apartment.

Hotaru had been going on more and more solo missions, but she always felt something missing when she did not have a team. At 23, she was finally promoted to Jounin. She asked to take on a Genin team and provide them with the encouragement they would need to keep pushing on through their Nindo.
