Hayakazu, Guren

"Patience yields focus."

General Information Age: 16
Gender: Female
Height: 5'6"
Weight: 125 lbs
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: Guren has spiky silver hair kept short with a deep side part. Her eyes are a pale gray and she has russet, reddish-brown skin. Due to these particular features, she is often mistaken for an Arashiyama. Her nose is rather petit, and on after being exposed to a lot of sun, freckles will sometimes appear on her cheeks. Guren also highlights her eyes with bright paints and temporary henna designs. Her ears are pierced with studs and her right ear has two cartilage piercings.
  • Body: Guren has the body of a pole vaulter and an archer - light, athletic, flexible, and most importantly, quick. Her bust-waist-hip ratio is considered rather attractive, and her abs are to die for. Often her arms with have various henna designs on them- she applies them herself. She has hundreds of scars all over her body from experiments conducted on her as a child.
  • Notable Features: Her silver hair and gray eyes, as well as her face paints, allow her to stand out from the crowd.
Clothing/Accessories: Living in Kumogakure means one has to be prepared for all types of weather. In general, Guren wears a light green cotton tunic and darker brown leggings, as well as dark brown lace-up boots that end below her knees, although she does often wander around barefoot. When it gets cold, she wears a black cloak with a hollow orange half-circle on the front over her chest, a gift from her mentor, as well as various other fur and hide clothing. Around her waist, she wears a wide leather belt that carries various pouches. Under the shirt, she binds her breasts with bandages, and wears an archer's leather chest guard. On the inside of her left forearm, Guren wears a leather armguard to protect against her bow string. She also wears black fingerless gloves.

Personality:
  • General: Guren is a huntress, raised by nomadic hunters. The first lesson she was ever taught is that patience yields focus, and with focus comes a reward. The very first trait people recognize in her is her exemplary calm and patience. She does not believe in killing frivolously; each shot she makes has a purpose. She is a perfect example of the strong-but-silent, actions-instead-of-words type of girl, as small talk and other pleasantries are difficult for her, since she has always gotten straight to the point in everything she does. She doesn't like talking around in circles, and sees social events as a waste of time. She is also quite embarrassed about her accent, seeing as moving to Kumogakure has forced her to learn a completely new way of life. However, she is incredibly loyal to those who have learned her trust, and will respect orders, willing to carry them out to her last breath.
  • Hopes/Dreams: Guren wants to remind people that it is not only clan members who can be strong, no matter how she has to do it.
  • Fears: Dying, having to socialize with people, making a fool of herself.
  • Combat Mentality: Guren very much keeps a calm mentality when in battle, realizing that although emotions may help in other aspects of life, they have no place in a fight. She prefers to stick to the shadows or high places, preferring to provide support from the back lines rather than get up close and personal, but she can handle herself in hand-to-hand combat long enough to escape. She has rather good battle sense, knowing exactly when to attack or retreat, and uses her skills in tandem with those of any teammates she may have to bring down enemies quickly and without a fuss, if possible. Her perceptiveness also comes in handy when observing both her teammates and opponents, although her communication skills leave much to be desired.

Anahita: Composite Recurve Takedown BowShow
Anahita is Guren's most prized possession, a gift from her mentor. A composite recurve bow about 4 feet long, it is made out of ox horn, bone, elk sinew, and wood laminated together, with thin, non-reflective metal covering the tips of the horns, and has stylized engravings on its limbs, reminiscent of the markings of her tribe. The grip of the bow is made of black rubber. Interestingly enough, it is also a takedown bow- the limbs can be taken apart at the riser to form two separate parts for convenience. Guren generally straps the parts to her back to keep them from moving around, or simply slings the full bow over her shoulder. It currently shoots at 18 strength/speed.

Anahita
Archer GearShow
Guren wears a simple leather chest guard to protect against the snap of the bowstring, as well as a leather arm guard on her left arm. These guards will not do much to protect against direct attack from an opponent.
Himitsu: TantoShow
Himitsu is a 25 cm (9.8 inch) long tanto that Guren wears strapped to the outside of her right thigh. Made of chakra-reinforced metal, both its silver edges are sharp, and its grip is also made of black rubber wrapped and sealed tightly around the hilt. Its sheath is black.

Flawless AimShow
Flawless Aim Style:
This style of combat is favored by specialists preferring to use projectiles, often serving as a staple for taijutsu-based projectile users. Focusing on the synergy between their hands and senses they strive to make their reach as far as possible with flawless aim.
Requires [Projectile Weaponry] and [Upper Body] concentrations
[Flawless Aim Style • Spitz]
E-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
Guren is able to manipulate her mouth, teeth, and tongue to spit an object in her mouth directly at an object within 5 m with perfect aim, but not with enough force to do much more than annoy someone. This is mostly used to intimidate and impress out of combat, although with proper application can be used to take an enemy by surprise.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Sentinel Stance]
D-Rank Taijutsu Stance
A stable and steady stance practiced by nearly all wishing to use projectiles. At this stage they are planted and focusing on their arms and shoulders, moving in smooth motions to mitigate unnecessary movements that may ruin their aim.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Multi-shot]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner is able to knock multiple arrows upon a single shot, loosing all of them simultaneously. Their accuracy suffers from this, taking a cumulative -2 Strength for each additional shot.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Arcing Shot]
D-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner is able to shoot in arcs up and over most obstacles, being able to accurately hit a target that is behind obstructions as if they were in the open. Granted, they must know of their target’s location or have another means of detecting them.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Tracking]
D-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
This allows the user to hit a moving target so long as it is moving in a way predictable to the user. They must still take into account travel time, and sudden changes in path will still affect the outcome.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Rapid Shot]
D-Rank Taijutsu Stance
The user will hold multiple projectiles in their hands to reduce the amount of time needed between each shot. When required they can quickly and fluidly draw more projectiles and keep up a steady stream of attacks. However, while utilizing this Stance the users feet must be planted, limiting the range of their assault, and their ability to be mobile while using it.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Evasive Maneuvers]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user has learned to maintain accuracy while on the move. This allows the user to move at full speed and even change directions without interrupting their rhythm.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Ricochet Shot]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
By launching their shot at the proper angle the practitioner is capable of bouncing their projectile off solid surfaces without losing accuracy. Any surface they bounce off causes the projectile to lose ⅕ of its impact strength and soft or uneven surfaces are impossible to bounce off.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Hidden Shot]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
By releasing two projectiles back to back the user attempts to create a decoy for the second. The first projectile is often larger or of equal size and the second is slightly behind and below it, usually attempting to hide in the first’s shadow. This masks the attack to some degree. However, perceptive opponents who have an instinct greater than the user’s tai may be able to see through the charade, provided they have means to do so.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Twisting Path]
C-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
By adding a spin to the weapon before it is launched the user is able to give the it a warping motion as it flies through the air. With much practice, the user is able to predict the weapon’s shifting motion and aim accordingly. This can be used to hit a target that is hiding behind another person or object, and is especially useful against a human shield.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Improvised Ammo]
C-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The practitioner knows their own reliance on ammunition thus emphasizes never being caught without. With the right technique they are fully capable of launching nearly anything, so long as it possesses at least the mass of a standard kunai, they could otherwise throw or shoot as if it were designed to do so in the first place. Unfortunately, this has an impact on the strength of the impact in the form of a -3 strength.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Blind Sight]
B-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user is adept at following targets they may not be able to see. By using their other senses they can loose attacks at targets that may be behind, above, to their sides, or even behind terrain without sacrificing any accuracy. They must still be able to actually hit their target around any obstructions that may exist.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Intercepting Shot]
B-Rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The practitioner is able to launch a projectile in the direct path of an oncoming solid mass attack. This projectile carries with it the full force of the one who launched it and is intended to deflect or destroy the attack before it comes near them. The user’s stats must be capable of tracking and intercepting the attack as well as deflecting it.

*[Flawless Aim Style • Uncanny Shot]
B-Rank Taijutsu Discipline
Having advanced in their arts the practitioner is able to launch projectiles from inconceivable positions. No matter what position their body is in they’re capable of releasing attacks without any detriment to their aim. In addition, rapid adjustments such as dodging or spinning has no effect on their aim.
YoshinShow
Yoshin Kenjutsu:
Yoshin Kenjutsu is a style of sword techniques that originate from Waterfall Country. The style's method of attack is considerably different from normal sword techniques, as each one is actually focused more on intelligent strikes to the body at critical places. Nerves, muscles, organs, even joints, are all targets of Yoshin Style. Because of this, practioners typically use short blades such as wakizashi or kodachi, though katana users are not unheard of. The typical stance of the style is to hold your sword at chest level to make the typical jabbing motions of the style more accessible.
  • Requires [Deft Hands], [Sword], and [Medicine]
*[Yoshin • Ambidexterity]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Discipline
Prerequisite: 5 Instinct
After practicing for a long amount of time with the concept of using both of their hands with equal skill, the user has developed a level of ambidexterity that allows them to utilize their preferred weaponry without any sort of issue. This extends to other methods of combat or simple everyday life as well.

*[Yoshin • Side Step]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Instinct
After stepping up beside the target or sidestepping an attack from the target, the user utilizes a quick striking method, drawing a very firm slash across the side, ribcage or arm of the target. The user slashes with the intent to both injure and startle the opponent, hoping to catch them off guard and disrupt the flow of their attacks. Unlike many other Yoshin techs that focus on shallow cuts that flare up in pain, this particular technique is meant to dig as deep as possible, many times slashing into bones to cause as much long term damage as possible.

*[Yoshin • Flinch]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Instinct
With a quick feint, the user quickly draws their sword up in an arc, aiming at a foe's eyes usually with intent to slash across their face and injure their eyes. The nature of the technique's movements make it easily read, prompting the target to avoid or dodge.

*[Yoshin • Finger Snap]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Instinct
Using a quick striking method, the user of this technique quickly draws a very firm slash towards the hands of the target aimed towards the fingers or palm. The user slashed with the intent to injure the gripping portions of the opponent's hand to knock weapons free with the slash, though the attack itself is shallow. Typically the technique is only useful as a quick disarm method and unsuitable for long term disarming.

*[Yoshin • Paper Slash]
D-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 5 Instinct
In this technique, the user switches from the typical critical blows to a more specialized 'swirl' pattern of slashing, which while much less effective in terms of damage, is useful in distraction. Wounds inflicted are patterned to flare up with pain when those muscle areas tighten, causing moves the opponent's make to recoil slightly on their bodies, the wounded areas acting as a detrimental pain in their actions.
Arts of MedicineShow
Arts of Medicine:
Arts of Medicine
This user has educated themselves in traditional medicine, and is able to treat and care for wounds in methods taught to medicine men and doctors that don't utilize chakra.
Requires: [Medicine] and [Deft Hands] Concentrations
All Art of Medicine Techniques require both Taijutsu and Instinct stats equal to the requirements for the rank of the Technique.
*[Medicinal Style • Bandage Wrapping]
D-rank Taijutsu Maneuver
The user knows how to utilize bandages, wrapping a wound in a manner that creates a near-perfect barrier from external forces, keeping the wound clean from bacteria. The bandage is tucked in place, preventing it from falling off, though excessive rubbing, pulling, or getting the bandage wet can cause it to fall off.

*[Medicinal Style • Injury Assessment]
D-rank Taijutsu Discipline
Unlike the mystical means of diagnosis utilized through iijutsu, those who utilize the Arts of Medicine must learn the most effective manner to assess a patient. Learners of this discipline have learn the most effective manner to diagnose a patient, starting at the head, and assessing for head wounds, then moving down through the torso, both arms, the groin area, both legs, then the back. Those who learn this discipline will be able to account for any wounds that present with physical symptoms on a patient.

*[Medicinal Style • Pressure Points]
D-rank Taijutsu Discipline
The user has learned all appropriate pressure points on a body. In the event of bleeding, they know where to apply pressure to slow the bleeding while treatment is administered.

*[Medicinal Style • Antidote]
C-rank Taijutsu Maneuver
In the case of injected venoms and poisons, the user is able to assess the site of injection, and properly cut off circulation, and roll veins, to force out the poison or venom. So long as they begin within the first post of injection, they can prevent the effects of the venom or poison.

History
Historical AccountsShow
Guren was born and raised in the harsh north of Lightning Country to a family of nomadic hunters. Simply known as the Falcon tribe, due to their astounding ability with bow and arrow, they made a life for themselves hunting game and beasts, having little to no contact with the outside world. For almost hundreds of years they had lived this way, both men and women pitching in to survive in the bitter cold of Shuuhou.

Then the Ravager came.

When Guren was 10 years old, a tall and scowling man strode into camp, appearing unaffected by the harsh winds whistling that night. Without a word, he began indiscriminately, knocking her tribe members unconscious with a single blow, sometimes many all at once, until they were all either captives or dead. His subordinates, or so she had believed, hauled them all to the Ravager's base camp, where he proceeded to torture them in the name of experiments until they either died or did what he expected. Elder, warrior, or child, he cared not who he killed, nor what tribe they were from, only that they did as he demanded. Guren herself was one of these experiments, cut open day in and day out, only to be fixed back up and re-examined again; her hair even turned white from the stress. At the age of 12, the examinations slowed down. He had deemed a group of children to be useful enough to keep alive and made into his own personal army.

The rest, he could dispose of, finally.

Guren's mother's last words to her were "Stay alive, do what you must, never forget where you came from. I love you." Then she was dragged away, kicking and screaming the whole time.

Guren herself was immediately put into conditioning to be utterly loyal to her new master. Any refusal to follow orders resulted in threats of cutting her tongue out, any expressing of wishes to see family was rewarded with isolation for two weeks, and any attempts to run away would be a the fast road to death. In hopes of finding revenge one day, Guren threw herself into training, not caring that all the so-called "scientists" were constantly monitoring her and reporting her progress. Her head stuffed with knowledge of tactics and ways to kill, she quickly grew to become one of the strongest of the group, and finally gained a position close to the Ravager's side at the age of 15, along with 3 others who had proven themselves to be predators instead of prey. The quartet became close, with all four sticking together. The world was no longer one of "every man for himself". They had each other to depend on, now.

Three months after she had become a full-fledged woman of 16 years- at least, she would have, had she participated in her tribe's traditional ceremony- reports of an attack arrived. The enemies of the Ravager, from some place called Kumogakure, were attacking their base. With full intent to betray her "master", Guren accepted the role of preliminary raids, knowing full well that there was a huge chance that she would be killed on sight. It was what she would do, after all.

Guren snuck out to the enemy camp during her watch and attempted, through hand gestures and a lot of attempts at proving she were arriving peacefully by placing her weapons on the ground, to inform the Kumogakure warriors about the situation. With her inside knowledge, the Kumogakure squad quickly captured and killed him while he was lounging about in his "throne room". She watched with cold eyes as he died, gargling like the foul old man he was.

Many of the Ravager's followers either killed themselves trying to take revenge or died trying to flee, having been brainwashed beyond all return. Unfortunately, the other three teenagers, who had been like siblings to her, were missing, presumably out on a different mission or dead, and the Kumogakure squad didn't want to stick around to wait for them. The squad leader, a jounin named Hayakazu Akinori, decided to regroup and take Guren back to Kumo (albeit against her will) since she, to the best of anyone's knowledge, had no one left, and attempting to survive alone in the wildlands of the north was akin to suicide, despite her skills.

Akinori himself vouched for the teenager, even fighting to take her in as a dependent. She knew nothing of the customs, the language, or the people, stumbling blindly alone in a world that she alone was a stranger to, it seemed. She already had not spoken in years, the habit of remaining silent engraved into her very bones. And now… she had to re-invent herself yet again. Akinori began teaching her to speak in shinobi hand signs, for most higher-ranking ninja knew how to use them, and even a few civilians did. In this way she was able to begin communicating again, while she still learned the new language of Kumogakure.

Fighting was all Guren knew from her past, now, so the day she found out the Academy she asked Akinori, in very broken speech, if she could join. Civilian life was not for her, he knew, and there would be no stopping her from running off and joining fights herself (there was no way she would be able to stand being cooped up in the village, anyway), so he gave her his blessing, a few tools, and his own guidance. In a class of mostly 9-year olds, she alone stuck out, the oldest and tallest one there, unable to read and never having heard of a Kage in her life. However, Guren refused to become the victim of any teasing, shutting them all up, even the skeptical teachers, with her prowess with the bow and various other weapons. She had no wish to share her past with the others, and no one asked.

Most fascinating of all to her, though, was chakra. She still flinched a little every time chakra was thrown at her, but was extremely curious about the mysterious substance that could both heal and hurt. Unfortunately, it seemed that she had no talent for ninjutsu, and no taste for genjutsu (for it seemed too much like brainwashing to her), so she stuck to her ways of hiding and shooting, and quickly passed, with a little bit of help from Akinori. As a congratulations gift, Guren was presented with Anahita, a beautiful composite recurve bow.

A GDS seemed like a huge first step to take upon graduation, so instead Akinori offered to become her mentor, which she accepted gratefully. He spent less missions outside the village, and she began to integrate into village life, despite being mistaken for an Arashiyama more times than she could count. She quickly ranked up to chuunin, having proven that she could handle herself well in stressful situations, and began hunting again in her free time, ready to help the village in any way she could.

With 20 taijutsu, you should only have 5 taijutsu concentrations, not 8.

Spitz is missing its [.

Stone Statue really feels like it should be a discipline.

For Falcon Dive, chakra = ninjutsu, so D:

Also, you make awesome characters. <3

Ok, so I removed 3 concentrations and changed one to Sword Weapons, so the final 5 are Upper Body, Deft Hands, Medicine, Sword Weapons, and Projectile Weapons. I have removed my custom taijutsu style and replaced the 19 points from those jutsu with 19 points worth of Yoshin (5 D-rank, total of 10 points) and Arts of Medicine (3 D-rank, 1 C-rank, total of 9 points) jutsu.

Just a note, but you don't need a stated strength or speed for you bow. It fires at a speed and strength equal to your speed, it just adds more distance than a throwing weapon because it's a bow.

Ok, so in the Points Store (Rules) it states that:
This!:
The strength of the user must be at least 2/3rds the strength of the weapon, otherwise the weapon is unusable to the wielder. For example to utilize a crossbow that shoots at 35 strength, the user would need 23 strength. The formula for this is as follows, (Strength/3).
I assumed that this was the case, since otherwise one could just throw arrows instead of using a bow, which seems kind of unfair to bow users who aren't just in it for the aesthetic, lol.

Is there a rule page about how far a weapon can be launched using a bow? It would be quite helpful. Thanks.

There's not really set in stone rule about it other than responsible RP, really. Also that rule is in place to prevent people with 5 strength from getting bows that shoot at 50 strength.

In short, there's not really much of a benefit behind buying a 2 point ordinary bow unless you're willing to invest in a bow with special properties or one that shoots more effectively (but that would cost more than the general 2 points).

Could you give the individual lengths of the blade / handle of your tanto?

Counting your bow as an ordinary 2 point bow, you have 27 points of equipment where chuunin only get 25 points

You need 20 instinct in order to have B rank disciplines.

As a note, as the bow shoots at a higher strength than the user currently posseses it would be treated as a special weapon, and thus cost extra so you may want to rethink your equipment, as, as Jin had said you're already over as is.
