Katō Tsubaki
Having a soft heart in a hard world takes courage and strength.
General Information Age: 19
Gender: Female
Physical Features: Tsubaki stands at an average height, about 5’6” and is rather slim at about 135lbs. She has nice, well developed curves and not large but toned muscles due both to her training in Kumo as well as living her life as a bandit. Her skin has browned in recent years from living mostly outdoors though dark would still never be quite the right word to describe her. Honey brown hair only accentuates her deep hazel brown eyes. Cascading down to her shoulder blades with bangs that end around eye level, very few of her ends are even, as cutting her own hair is not as easy as one might expect. Despite its length, she rarely keeps her hair down as it usually gets in the way, instead wearing it up in a bun or ponytail most of the time.
The more years she accumulates as a bandit, the more marks of one she bears, though so far she has been spared from anything too large. A slightly crooked nose and fingers, and thin white lined scars scattered across her hairline and wrists remain the worst visible ones so far. To date, her biggest scar is mostly invisible, hidden in the hair on the back of her head. Only when her hair is parted just so does the line of missing hair become noticeable.
Clothing/Accessories: Comfort is king for the bandit girl. Fashion is simply not practical when running around the woods all day. A pair of black pants that are nearly skin tight through the knees and that flare off after that until they reach her shoes, covering them completely. On top she wears t-shirts of different colors, often an icy blue, emerald green, or burnt orange. The shirts tend to have deep necklines and are sleeveless. Over her t-shirts she tends to wear a blue-ish grey vest or a large green sweatshirt when its colder.
She wears a pair of black and royal blue closed toe shoes on her feet with elastic straps rather than laces. When it’s even colder out she wears an old coat, dark grey in color, that reaches her knees and buttons up the front.
TsubakiShow
Recently though, she has undoubtedly been developing an issue with authority. Whether this stems from a lack of rebellion during her teenage years in the hidden village or everything that she went through to get where she is, or even maybe an exhaustion over feeling like a protected victim, the knowledge doesn’t lessen the attitude. Rolling eyes, heavy sighs, and a general argumentative air about her, Tsubaki is only getting worse at following orders when she decides there is a problem with it, when she decides that she doesn’t agree. Maybe it makes her feel like a child, or makes her feel useless or powerless, but no matter what it is she will break away, leading to a worse attitude on her end and a tension that is getting harder and harder to live with. Currently unable to accept following order blindly anymore.
Tsubaki’s battle tactics change depending on the situation. As a bandit there are times she’s a fighter and times she’s a medic. As a fighter she’s fast and she’s the one to draw people out, expose their openings, rarely the one to get the final strike in. As a medic she is fast and to the point. Efficient and effective. But no matter what mode she is in, she is serious and calm. In control of her emotions under the weight of the lives that hang in the balance under her control.

Suiton NinjutsuShow
D-RankShow
D-Rank:*Suiton • Defensive Barrier
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will spray water created from the inside of their chest through their mouth. Once the water is expelled, it will form an umbrella shape that is concave to the user and about two meters in diameter. This defense is somewhat solid and can be formed in any direction the user can spit, up to five meters away. The defense is shot at a speed of 5 and has a strength of 5 and unless completely destroyed it lasts for three posts before falling lifelessly to the ground.
*Suiton • Wet Spot
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will expel a 3 meter diameter sphere of water from their mouth at speed of 5 up to 10 meters away. Upon impact it will burst spilling all over the immediate area making it extremely slippery. Those without 5 taijutsu or higher will not be able to hold their footing on this wet spot and will slip around.
*Suiton • Water Orb Technique
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user will form a dense ball of water approximately 6 centimeters in diameter in their hands. Upon lurching forward, they will release the ball towards an opponent up to 10 meters away at a speed of 6 and with a strength of 4.
*Suiton • Propel Leap
D-Rank Ninjutsu
After channeling chakra into their hands the user will fire two jets of water from their hand, essentially hurling and propelling themselves in the opposite direction of their jets as if thrown by a strength of 5. Can be used once to throw themselves with 5 strength.
C-RankShow
C-Rank:*Suiton • Clone
C-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user creates a clone of themselves comprised completely of suiton chakra. This clone is incapable of jutsu, however it's liquid nature makes it a very capable taijutsu combatant. This clone lasts for 5 posts.*Suiton • Crashing Wave
- Taijutsu: 6
- Stamina: 8
- Strength: 7
- Speed: 6
C-Rank Ninjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals the user expels a massive tidal wave of water 10 meters wide and nearly 5 meters tall. This wave travels forward at a speed of 10 and with a strength of 10 for up to 15 meters before losing it's steam and failing.
IijutsuShow
E-RankShow
E-Rank:*[Iijutsu • Thermometer]
E-Ranked Ninjutsu
This simple technique is utilized by medical-nin in place of traditional thermometers, although it is not as accurate. After forming a single handseal and focusing chakra into an object in his/her hand, the user can place it within the mouth (or rear) of the patient. If the patient's temperature is above normal body temperature, the chakra within the object will clump together near the top of it, while if the body temperature is below average, the chakra will form much lower down on the object. This technique can be held as long as the user has chakra.
D-RankShow
D-Rank:*[Iijutsu • Sterilization Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
As sanitation cannot always be guaranteed in field operations, this technique provides a quick substitute to traditional sterilization methods. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will channel the chakra throughout his/her upper body (torso, arms, hands, face). This chakra will chew away at harmful bacteria and other foreign bodies on the skin, cleansing it until it is thoroughly sterile, and can be spread to objects, most commonly surgical tools. Of course, this takes both concentration and time, and in order to sterilize the entire upper body, it will take a duration of one (1) post. Users of this technique can also choose to sterilize certain parts of their upper body or the wounds of another person instead for a lesser concentration period. Once they are sanitized, they remain this way until coming in contact with more bacteria.
*[Iijutsu • Oxygen Flow]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
Simple in its form yet highly effective in practice, the *[Iijutsu • Oxygen Flow] technique allows its users to clear obstructed airways, to perform less extensive CPR, and to give cells the oxygen they crave. After focusing chakra into the hands, the user will place both over the target's chest (through the back works as well). By allowing the chakra to be channeled throughout the lungs and up through the air ways, any unseen, solid or liquid obstructions will be cleared from these passages and ejected through the mouth, allowing the patient to breathe more easily. Additionally, the hands can be placed over the heart to help oxygenate the body's cells. In this instance, users must be much more careful, as over-oxygenating cells can cause more harm than good. This technique takes the entirety of one post to perform.
*[Iijutsu • Blood Clot Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
This highly useful field technique is applied to bleeding wounds to help encourage the coagulation of the blood. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will hover them over the bleeding wound and begin to channel chakra through it. The chakra will began to thicken the blood, causing it to clot. Wounds must be dealt with one at a time, and the number of wounds that can be tended to within the three (3) posts that this technique lasts depends on their size. Small wounds take very little time to clot, while moderate wounds take one (1) post of concentration to clot, and large wounds take two (2) posts to clot. Although this technique stops the bleeding, the wound remains vulnerable and will require further care after this has been performed.
*[Iijutsu • Chakra Stitching]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
When traditional stitching supplies aren't available, *[Iijutsu • Chakra Stitching] truly shines. After performing a short set of handseals, the user will gently place his/her index finger at the base of the patient's wound. Once this is done, the user will lift his/her finger and touch it to the other side of the wound, causing a visible 'stitch' of chakra to appear. This is repeated until the wound has been pulled together. Although precision is key, this technique can still be performed relatively quickly. Small to moderate wounds take very little time to stitch, while large wounds will take one (1) post of work to mend. This technique drains a minuscule amount of chakra from the person it is attached to in order to keep the stitches going, theoretically, ad-infinitum, and can be cancelled at any time by the user with a single handseal. Any intensive or strenuous movements will cause the stitches to break.
*[Iijutsu • Bandage Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: *[Iijutsu • Sterilization Technique]
A simple yet vital medical technique, the *[Iijutsu • Bandage Technique] provides its users with the ability to create makeshift bandages out of any suitable material they desire. After channeling chakra into an object (such as a leaf, piece of cloth, etc.), the user is able to apply it to the wound of a patient. Once applied, the selected object will adhere to the flesh around the wound, protecting it from bacteria and other harmful foreign bodies. Objects used for the bandage technique are automatically sterilized in the process. These bandages drain a minuscule amount of chakra from the person it is attatched to in order to keep them stuck on, theoretically, ad-infinitum, and can be cancelled at any time by the user with a single handseal. While not as effective at stopping bleeding as the [Iijutsu • Chakra Stitching] technique, they hold on much better in the case that strenuous movement is necessary.
C-RankShow
C-Rank:*[Iijutsu • False Death]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: 5 Iijutsu
This simple ninjutsu is comprised of the user's knowledge of the human body and the ability to mask all vital signs. By focusing chakra throughout the body to preserve its function while in this state, the user can appear to be dead as long as they have chakra to spare. This act can seem very realistic to the untrained opponent, but is foiled by sensor techniques, certain doujutsu and jutsu, and the *[Iijutsu • Medical Diagnosis Technique] technique.
*[Iijutsu • Numbing]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
This field-oriented technique is used in place of typical anesthetics when they're not at hand. After focusing chakra into the hands, the user will place them over a group of muscles. As the chakra is channeled through the chosen area, numbness will begin to creep throughout it, beginning with the flesh before seeping into the muscle below. Small areas of numbness require very little time, while medium-sized areas (equivalent to half a limb) require one (1) post to numb, and anything larger than an entire limb requires two (2) posts of concentration to numb. This numbing begins where the user has placed his/her hands and spreads outward until the hands are removed. The numbness can only cause pain equivalent to being stabbed with a kunai to be nullified. Once numbed, the effects last for four (4) posts before fading.
*[Iijutsu • Medical Diagnosis Technique]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: 5 Iijutsu
Perhaps one of the most important Iijutsu techniques to date, the *[Iijutsu • Medical Diagnosis Technique] allows its users to probe another's body in search for medical answers. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will begin to channel it into the patient's body. Using this chakra as an internal extension of his/her hand to feel for abnormalities and other issues, the user is often able to determine the problem after some time and concentration. In order for a thorough examination to provide sufficient answers, the user will focus for up to one (1) post, seeking signs of internal and external damage, organ malfunction and disease among other ailments. Although skilled medical-nin have the possibility to work faster, skill cannot be substituted in for thoroughness.
*[Iijutsu • Basic Antidote Technique]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: User's averaged Instinct and Control stats must be 10 or above
A useful, but particularly taxing technique, the *[Iijutsu • Basic Antidote Technique] is performed on poisoned patients. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will make a small incision (with a knife, scalpel, etc.) on the patient and then place his/her hands over the new wound. As this chakra is channeled into the body, it extracts the poison out of it and into the user's palm. After one (1) post of the extraction process, the user will remove his/her hand, and place it over a container of some sort (anything that can bear liquid). From here, the liquid poison will be ejected from the hand along with the remaining chakra that was used to extract it. As this chakra interacts with the poison over the course of a second post, its molecules will be rearranged to form the antidote for the poison in question. This works only on C-Rank or lower poisons. The antidote takes a total of three (3) posts to fully rid the body of the poison.
*[Iijutsu • Imperfect Cure]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: *[Iijutsu • Basic Antidote Technique]
Formulated to work in conjunction with the *[Iijutsu • Basic Antidote Technique], *[Iijutsu • Imperfect Cure] extends upon the antidote created in the aforementioned technique. Once the antidote has been concocted following the description of the *[Iijutsu • Basic Antidote Technique], the user will begin to channel additional chakra throughout the antidote to make it especially potent. This increased potency not only rids the body of the C-Rank or lower liquid poison that was in the body over the (3) posts it takes to work, but also induces an immunity in the patient which lasts for seven (7) posts.
*[Iijutsu • Blood Transfer Technique]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
A simple technique that requires its users to sacrifice a little to save a life, the*[Iijutsu • Blood Transfer Technique]does exactly what its name suggests. To prepare for this procedure, the user must make a small incision into the patient's body and follow by opening a vein. Once the vein has been open, the user will begin to channel chakra into it. Over the course of one (1) post, the patient's blood will gain density and stabilize itself. Users of this technique must be aware that their own blood will dilute over the duration of this technique, as it is essentially transferring blood from their bodies to the patient's. No more than 1 liter (2 pints) of blood can be transferred using this technique without severe repercussions for the user.
*[Iijutsu • Bone Fracture Technique]
C-Ranked Nintaijutsu
Prerequisite: *[Iijutsu • Chakra Scalpel]
Once the *[Iijutsu • Chakra Scalpel] has been activated, users may choose to use this jutsu as an alternative to the aforementioned technique's usual action. When in close range, the user will attempt to jab his/her charged hand at the opponent, seeking to connect with a bone. If successful, the chakra will be released into the opponent's body as a sharp, precise burst to the area of contact, causing the bone to fracture. If this area is struck again in the same spot, the bone will inevitably break. This technique does not harm anything but the bone—not even the skin—and is dispelled after three (3) posts or until contact with the opponent is made. However, since both hands are charged, the user has two chances with this technique per use (one per hand).
B-RankShow
B-Rank:*[Iijutsu • Chakra Scalpel]
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
Perhaps one of the most dangerous and revered Iijutsu honed by medical-nin, the *[Iijutsu • Chakra Scalpel] is no precision instrument. After performing the necessary handseals, the user will begin to focus an ample amount of chakra into his/her hands. Once charged with chakra, the user will attempt to place his/her hands on the target. If the user is able to connect the entirety of his/her palm, the chakra will be released into the opponent's body, slicing tissue, organs and veins up to 4 inches from the surface in an area roughly the size of the user's hand. The skin remains unblemished by this technique, as it only causes small to moderate internal wounds. As this technique is dangerous and mostly uncontrolled, the precision needed to kill instantaneously is lost. The chakra used in this technique is highly visible when first activated and emanates from both hands for a duration of three (3) posts or until contact with the opponent is made.
*[Iijutsu • Bone Regeneration Technique]
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
Although simple to explain, the *[Iijutsu • Bone Regeneration Technique] requires both skill and patience in order to mend the fractured or broken bones of patients. After focusing chakra into the hands, the user will begin to channel it through the area of the break or fracture. As this chakra makes contact with the bone, it will stimulate the calcium production of the body and begin to mend the bone. To mend small-to-medium breaks, it takes one (1) post of concentration, while fractures are usually very quick to mend. Multiple breaks can be mended during the use of this technique as it lasts for a total of five (5) posts or until canceled. Users should beware that, like other regenerations of this kind, the nutrient stores of the patient's body are being depleted during its use, and too many uses of this technique in a short span of time can cause serious damage.

Life In the VillageShow
Tsubaki was always the person least likely to abandon her village for a life of running around aimlessly, looking for something more. Both of her parents were Shinobi and Tsubaki was never really given the chance to do anything else which is what most likely started the series of events that led Tsubaki to leave her village behind. It wasn’t that she was completely against joining the Academy but she would have appreciated being asked. She drew much attention in the Academy due to her sweet nature and endearing attitude. Most teachers thought it would eventually go to her head but much to their surprise, Tsubaki always took the attention in stride and stayed very much grounded.
To the surprise of herself, she excelled in the Academy and merely claimed it was genetics when she was praised on her fast learning. The first clue that led Tsubaki to believe she was in the wrong place was her lack of conviction for learning any one thing. All it took was one student praising one style or weapon for Tsubaki to try her hand at it, thinking that maybe that was where her passion was. Without fail, though, it wouldn’t work out and she would move onto something else. This left her average with nothing special to show for all of her work except for a strong ability to predict what others were going to do.
Her well-rounded ability was what enabled her to be able to graduate to a Genin. She had entertained mild hope that her parents would let her quit one she graduated. It was more than enough for her but it didn’t seem to be enough for them. She was thrown onto a team of Genin she didn’t know and was forced to make nice and constantly train. The one thing her parents could never say was that she did anything half-heartedly. She didn’t want to train but she did and she threw herself into it. Her strength intensified and so did her brain as she studied what others did and how they worked. As expected her team loved her and unbeknownst to her, the two young gentlemen on her team had childhood crushes on her. Their advances were no use though, no matter how obvious they were, Tsubaki never understood their game and thought them as only being polite.
Constantly encouraged to choose a style and become more specialized, Tsubaki resisted it. She was already being forced into something she didn’t want, a lifestyle she didn’t choose and the last thing she wanted was to try to develop a style that would only take up more of her time. She did just fine with her basics even though her parents would beg to differ. To make them happy, she did branch off into Iijutsu, knowing her team needed someone with medical knowledge. With her sweet attitude, the role fit her well but the extra work did nothing but harden her further against the village she was supposed to love.
By the time the Chuunin exams came around, Tsubaki was the best member of her squad. No one knew her distaste for the life though and she couldn’t blame them as a smile was only seen on her face. The Chuunin exams were the last straw though. The level of fighting, the pain, the blood, and the general aspect of what the rest of her life would be finally caused the realization to appear that the only way out of this life was to leave. Her parents wouldn’t listen to her, she had been trying for years to make them listen. No, it was time to take things into her own hands. Her team passed the exams, of course, and given their level of skill were sent on gradually harder and harder missions. Still constantly faking her good attitude, Tsubaki started watching and waiting for the perfect moment to leave, to go experience something new.
Months and months after passing exams, the perfect opportunity announced itself. Sent on a retrieval mission far outside the gates of Kumo, there would be no better time. The Genin they were bringing home was easy enough to catch and Tsubaki thought it a fair trade – him for her. He actually managed to badly injure one of her teammates before they had him under control. Shouting that she needed supplies to help her wounded comrade, she ran off into the woods and just didn’t stop. They were near enough to the country line that she would be long gone before her group reached home considering one wounded and one to keep an eye on the Genin.
It was days before she stopped running, ending up somewhere in the midst of Bear Country eventually. Her nerves were shot and she was exhausted and dirty, but she felt free. She didn’t stop though, she was too close for comfort. After resting for a day or two she continued moving, making her way through the small countries before eventually making it to Tea Country where she finally felt as relaxed as she could feel. She had heard things during her early travels of being hunted but she blended in enough that no one ever got close. She couldn’t imagine being followed all the way to Tea Country but she couldn’t know for sure. It was where she stayed now, still on edge and unsure of what to do with herself. She had no idea what she was doing and she was too nervous to travel far. Her pride and anger at her parents were the only things stopping her from going back at the moment.

Life After the VillageShow
In the early days of being out of Kumo and trying to settle down, Tsubaki got on a ship bound for some far off country. She didn’t care where it was going only that it was taking her further away from Kumo and everything she hated. It was only by her own poor luck that she got trapped on the ship from hell. The ship of the damned.
A missing ninja from Konohagakure no Sato by the name of Enma had chosen her ship to terrorize. He had taken a particular interest in her. Seemed to be amused by her attempts to protect the boy she had fallen for. Despite everything though, Tsubaki had been unable to make a difference, unable once again to take control of her life. Everyone was slaughtered in front of her before she was knocked out by Enma and taken to an uninhabited island.
On this island, she went through things that she still did not remember. Things came to her in pieces still, certain memories still burned into her brain. Ones that came back and haunted her from time to time. With no memory of how she got off the island, Tsubaki had woken up back in Tea Country. Back where she started. After doing a few patch jobs on the street and realizing it wasn’t working, Tsubaki picked up a job helping out a local dive bar in exchange for board and food. It was here that she met Akio.
Coming in for drinks with a portion of his crew, he had taken a liking to her after she stood up to him. She had taken a liking to him as well. Despite being a big bad bandit, he was kind to her. He offered her a place in his crew and she accepted, despite the anxiety over it. It wasn’t an easy transition. She had been scarred by what happened to her and it took her a long time to warm up to the crew but it happened, slowly. Especially when the camp’s current medic, Shirai, took a liking to her. His goofy personality and constant teasing aggravated her and brought her out of her shell. Bringing them closer together.
Together with the crew, Tsubaki has been through a lot. She has saved and been saved. Been put in more danger than she would have ever have imagined but she would never change anything. Despite the danger, despite the struggles, the fighting, the arguments, Tsubaki is home when she is with Akio and Shirai and the crew. Between the kidnappings and the fighting and the hiding of her budding romance with Shirai...she knows that she could never leave them.
