A Fairly Simple Mod

Change: Adding in a bunch of trained jutsu that I've been meaning to cash in on, plus a couple of stats. I'll start with those since that's the lesser of the two.

Speed +1: from 49 to 50

[Iaido • Flying Dragon Flash]
C-Ranked Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 Speed and Taijutsu
The user assumes their draw stance and takes aim at the opponent. As the user draws their blade, they let go of their hilt, letting their sword fly forward from it as though it were an arrow. The speed at which the sword flies is always 1 Speed lower than the user's total Speed. A split instant after letting their sword fly, the user will rush forward with the scabbard of their sword in hand, rapidly closing the distance between them and their blade. As the pommel makes contact with the opponent, the user will thrust their arm forward, re-sheathing their blade and adding their strength to the strike twice over. The distance the sword can travel is equal to the user's Strength.

[Strong Fist Style • Requiem]
C-Ranked Taijutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 15 strength
A counter strike technique, the user will wait for an opponent to strike at them before ducking below the strike and quickly ramming their elbow into the opponents' stomach with all of their strength, throwing their entire body weight into it and sending the opponent flying backwards. The target is only moved if their [Strength + Stamina/2 is less than or equal to the user's Strength stat.

Mugen • Infinite Strike
B-Ranked Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: 35 Instinct
Despite the name of this technique, Mugen • Infinite Strike is a defensive taijutsu that is meant to block many, many strikes made against the user. To use this technique, the user must stand firmly in place with their sword raised. Then, using as little movement and thus as little energy as possible, the user will block a number of oncoming attacks equal to their Taijutsu in number, matching the blows Strength with the user’s own in rapid succession in order to deflect any oncoming attacks. This technique fails if the user’s Strength is less than that of the Strength of the technique being blocked. Should the user move from the spot on which they stand, the technique ends. This Maneuver can be used to block certain ninjutsu attacks within reason.

[Iaido • Judgement Cut]
A-Ranked Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: [Heavenly Body Control], 45 Speed, 40 Taijutsu
The user grabs a hold of the hilt of their blade and their scabbard before taking a step back and unleashing their blade in a horizontal slash across the body. After the user unsheathes with their sword, a spherical distortion in space appears in front of the user 4 meters in diameter. This "vortex" can appear anywhere at a distance equal to the user's Strength in meters. Anyone caught in the sphere is cut by sharp winds as the vortex collapses in on itself. In addition, as the vortex is collapsing, 2 large slashes will strike out at anyone within 2 meters of the sphere. These winds, and the slashes that accompany them, have a Strength equal to 3/4 the user's Strength. The vortex collapsing is accompanied by the sound of a low, imploding hum. The re-sheathing of their blade is akin to a "flash", being impossible to see unless the opponents' [Instinct + Speed]/2 is greater than or equal to the user's Speed.

[Iaido • Dragon Strike]
S-Ranked Kenjutsu Maneuver
Prerequisite: A-Ranked [Iaido • Dragon Strike]
The user steps forward with the front leg while unsheathing the blade in a horizontal attacking motion across the body. So swift is this technique that it is akin to a "flash", being impossible to see unless the opponents' Instinct is greater than or equal to the user's Speed. This slash creates a thin wave of nearly invisible air which cuts whatever it comes into contact with with 4/5 the user's Strength and travels up to a distance equal to the user's Strength in meters.

D-Ranked Ninjutsu
The user channels their katon chakra into their finger tips. Then, with a snap of their fingers, the user ignites an area 1x1x1 meter in size in flame, causing a small explosion within this area with 5 Strength. A brief moment before the ignition, there is a small 'ember' of flame that indicates where the bloom of flame will erupt. These flames expand outwards from the ember at 5 Speed. This flame lasts for only an instant and quickly dissipates after burning. The user is able to perform this jutsu at a range of 10 meters.

Katon • Wildfire
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: *Katon • Heated Blade
After the user has set their blade aflame using the Katon • Heated Blade ninjutsu, the user again channels katon chakra; this time in the flames themselves, causing the flames to jump about on the weapon wildly at a Speed of 5, giving the flames 15 Strength. Afterwards, every strike of the user's blade will cause flames to jump and fly from the blade, spreading the fire about and causing environmental damage. The flames can leap out away from the sword equal to a distance of 1/2 the user's Strength and similarly moves at 1/2 the user's Strength.

B-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: C-rank Katon • Flash-bang
The user channels their katon chakra into their finger tips. Then, with a snap of their fingers, the user ignites an area up to 8x8x8 meter in size in flame, causing an explosion within this area with 20 Strength. A brief moment before the ignition, there is a small 'ember' of flame that indicates where the bloom of flame will erupt. These flames expand outwards from the ember at 20 Speed. This flame lasts for only an instant and quickly dissipates after burning. The user is able to perform this jutsu at a range of 40 meters.

Death Bone Pulse • Reach
B-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: 25 Control
The user will channel to ossify bone in their arm, holding their arm out and extending from their palm a skeletal hand an arm, segmented by many joints which allow it to bend, turn and curve. This skeletal arm moves at a Speed of 20 and grabs onto objects with a Strength of 20. The distance that this arm can travel is equal to the User's Control stat in meters.

Death Bone Pulse • Skeletal Wings
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: 25 Control, B-Ranked Death Bone Pulse • Skeletal Wings
The user will channel to ossify bone in their shoulders, growing a pair of skeletal wings at a Speed of 25. These wings have a Strength of 25. These wings then ossify further as thin, hollow bones are added, mimicking the structure of keratin in the feathers of birds at a speed of 25. These wings allow the user to fly, giving them a maximum speed equal to the user’s Speed while in the air and a maximum height of 30 meters.

Katon • Flash-bang
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: B-rank Katon • Flash-bang
The user channels their katon chakra into their finger tips. Then, with a snap of their fingers, the user ignites an area up to 16x16x16 meter in size in flame, causing a large explosion within this area with 25 Strength. A brief moment before the ignition, there is a small 'ember' of flame that indicates where the bloom of flame will erupt. These flames expand outwards from the ember at 25 Speed. This flame lasts for only an instant and quickly dissipates after burning. The user is able to perform this jutsu at a range of 55 meters.

So swift is this strike that it cannot be perceived while it's happening, the effect appearing to take place before the user actually moves. <-That's gonna be a no. Should be their [Int+Spd]/2 vs your Spd

[Iaido • Dragon Strike] <-Get rid of 'invisible.' Should be their [Int+Spd]/2 vs your Spd

ALL of your Katon • Flash-bang <-Should be area of flame and his figures where chakra is channeled. Opponent's need some sort of counterplay besides instant explosion on top of them.

Edits will be made after this post, however I do have some counter points.

The above quoted line of text from judgement cut is purely for flavor, no real mechanical significance there. The stat battle, on the other hand, I'm slightly more concerned about. I based the stat battle present in Judgement Cut on a previously accepted custom tai maneuver that illustrated the same thing - which is to say the speed of the technique. I don't really see a reason as to why I should alter the formula now when there's already precedent for it in the past.

Speaking of which.

Dragon Strike is not "invisible", I specifically wrote it as NEARLY invisible. Which makes sense. Because it's a wave of cutting air, ala the Fuuton style of elemental ninjutsu. You have to imagine that this is just a thin line of air the length of a blade. It's visible, sure, just tough to see. Same way wind blowing through dust is visible but hard to see.

^ This is the A rank version of this technique, which is already accepted and on my profile. I also have a B rank version of this technique which was accepted in a mod. You'll notice that the wording is identical in each one, save for the scale of strength that the strike itself has to accommodate for the progressively higher ranked version of this technique.

Given that there is precedent for this technique TWO TIMES OVER, I see no reason why I should change the S rank version of Dragon Strike to make it strictly worse in form and function than it's lesser versions aside from strength value. If you want Judgement Cut to be follow a different formula, fine. It's a new technique and I'll live with the disadvantaged stat battle given the techniques inherent flexibility and power. But Dragon Strike? I'm holding firm on that one. Literally no reason why it should be changed, really.


As for the Katon techs, I'll be adding in a line that is present in a similar tech Pin-point that gives it some more counterplay. I honestly forgot to edit it in the first time anyways, so that's on me.

Going to add a Control prereq of 25 to Reach in order to keep the wording and give it the ability to go beyond 30 meters. That should be more than sufficient since, if I recall rightly, 25 is the requirement for most A ranks.

Edits will be made accordingly after I post this! With the exception of Judgement Cut, as I will wait for a mod to tell me one way or the other which stat battle is more acceptable for that technique.

[Iaido • Flying Dragon Flash] <=== Since you're trying to catch back up to the sword, you'll wanna specify that you have to throw the sword just slightly slower than you're moving. Otherwise, you'll always be moving at the same pace as the sword and make the follow-up portion of this jutsu impossible, at least with how you've currently worded it. It doesn't have to be much; even -1 Speed will do.

[Strong Fist Style • Requiem] <=== Need a stat contest (probably opponent's Strength + Stam/2, rounded up vs. your Strength) for the knockback effect.

Katon • Flash-bang (all) <=== Glad you have the ember to indicate the area of the explosion, but the wording "instant" still leaves too small of a window. Maybe say something like "a brief moment" instead. Still very quick, but allows a more reasonable window for recognition and reaction. The rest we can leave up to relevant stats.

Removed the impossible to see line (though in retrospect I see why it was a problem. I was just trying to convey how quickly the user draws the sword from out of the sheath, but failed to do so. Regardless!) and added in an Int+Spd vs. Spd stat battle to Judgement Cut. Ready for review again.

Once again gonna have to go with a no on that one. These jutsu are supposed to be a quick, instantaneous flame that exists for a brief second and then is gone. They don't have a speed and thus only have the base half stats which jutsu which don't have speed are supposed to have. I'm pretty sure there's a rule about this.

Besides that, there's already an accepted precedent for this model of 'no speed half strength' on my profile - let alone in the rules themselves! Which can be read here.

I'm not changing these jutsu as they are perfectly within the bounds of the rules. To do so would only serve to make them less effective than they need to be.

Yeah the reason I’m saying a speed is needed here is because there is no indication of where the jutsu is going to arrive, meaning these attacks become an instant, undodgeable attack.

Which is not in the rules.

While the rules do say you can forego speed, those are for jutsu that, for example, create something on your immediate person, or create something small that would be made incredibly fast no matter the speed.

However, your jutsu requires counter play. Which you’re aware of because you said “a brief moment” however, a brief moment is not a measurable instance in role play. So, in order to have that counter play, you need to either have a speed in which it travels from point a to point b, or a speed in which it expands from the small flame to the big explosion.

The most effective form is the latter, but it’s your choice.

Either way, however, creating an explosion at any location within 40 meters of your body isn’t allowed without some way of it been seen.

I did have a big long reply as to why I didn't feel the need to make such an edit in at all - a reply that I actually still feel is valid. But frankly? I thought it over and I don't think this is a hill I need to die on. The edits asked for are not unreasonable and I can understand why you want them.

By the time that another mod sees this thread, chances are the Flash-bang jutsu will have a Speed equal to their strength signifying how quickly the flames expand from 'point zero', IE the ember. And will be ready for review again, of course.
