Underneath his eyebrows is a pair of black eyes that seem to always be searching for something, one could say that the gaze is empty, but behind those eyes is a mind that is always dealing with some emotional issue. His nose is well defined but petite and fits in well with his well defined jaw line and cheek bones. He also inherited his fathers pearly whites.

Staring out of the classroom window, Ri looked into the distance wondering about how his parents were doing. They were both shinobi of the village, and were sent off to fight in the great war. It has been weeks since he had heard from them, and the feeling of panic was brewing with every passing moment. The uncertainty of what was going to happen to him was becoming real, his young mind was struggling to comprehend how he would fend for himself in this world full of hatred and despair.
There was not a day where one of his academy friends had said that some of their family members had died. Fathers, mothers, uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters, cousins, they died every day, and every day brought more tears into the academy. Everyone supported each other as best they could, but it was never enough to match the feeling of family back home. Sitting around the dinner table, talking about the days events, the laughter, the supportive hug from the parents when something did not go the way one wished. All this, punctured out of ones heart and left with the hole that if not filled, will drain all the compassion and everything that makes a human.
Ri's eyes filled with water as his gaze scouted the rocky horizon beyond the village grounds. All he wanted ws to see his family once again. Never in his life he asked for a lot, he always helped anyone who asked for it. Now all he wanted was for his family to come home safe, so his life could return to normal. But, as months went by, the letters delivered from the war front were slowly becoming non-existant. The atmosphere in the village was becoming worse with every morning that came, there was no news from any of his friends, the government was village council was too busy dealing with all the mayhem to keep the villagers informed. Every few weeks, a note came through the door that gave a small update on the happenings beyond the borders which emphasized the need to remain calm and not panic. With the military becoming active, constantly patroling the areas around the village, there village was under supported for the everyday events. A lot was taken care of by the academy, they offered support to the students that were left all on thair own. This offered comfort to the children that were far too young to look after themselves, and Ri tried his best to keep himself occupied, and offered comfort to those who were even younger than himself. He saw those kids and realised that although he has not heard from his family in a long time, it was not a reason for him to shut down. Knowing that his family was doing their best to get back, he felt that he could not allow his energy to waste, and helped those that were in a state of complete shut down.

At the beginning of the academy day, the tutor would bring in all the mail that the village had recieved from the warfront over the past day. This day the tutor had a letter from Ri's parents. As he walked into the class room, Ri noticed him holding a few letters that were grouped together with a ribbon, this was the way the letters were organized for each class. He would hand them out to the receipients and would allow a few minutes for the letters to be read, absorbed, and processed.
A letter was placed before Ri, and immediately he noticed his mothers writing on the front of the envelope. Suddenly anxiety washed over him, he could not move, he was struggling to breathe. It has been months since he had last heard from his family, he had assumed the worst and now he was realizing that his presumptions were all wrong. The tutor who handed out the letter spotted Ri's odd behaviour and reached out to him, placing his hand on the youth shoulder, he smiled and nodded at him. This small event of non-verbiality was enough to knock Ri back to his normal self. He reached for the enveloped and pick it up, using a ruller to slice the top and retrieve the contents. The letter would be placed on the desk and Ri would take a a deep breath before reading, the world around him seemed to disappear as his read every word carefully as he tried to fully comprehend what his family were telling him.
The letter read;
'Omi, we want to apologize for not writing sooner, but the war is changing so quickly we are always on guard, or fighting. Any moment we have we write a little in this letter so that one day it'll be ready and we will be able to post it to you. We hope that you are well, that you are looking after yourself, brushing your teeth, and going to to sleep early. We understand that the past few months must have been hard for you, but bare with us. We will come back to you as soon as we can.
We have spoken to our commanders, there is a big battle coming up, but not worry, we have enought intelligence and strategic advantage, there will not be any issues. Our commanders have said that after this battle we will be some of the few that will be able to return home to recover. So keep smiling, we will be home to hug you soon.
Your father wanted to say something; Listen to your mother. Thats the main thing, but I also wanted to say something to you that my dad once said to me so pay attention, and I hope that you figure it out.
