On NSRP, there are some shinobi capable of what we refer to as Body Modding. Most commonly, body modding are actual modifications to the body, such as adding a tail, or giving them scales covering their body. However, they can also include genetic splicing, where additional genetic material is given to a host to grand them access to genetically based abilities. Body Modifications always take one ability slot, but can take multiple slots based on how they function. Below we will explore both types of Body Modification: Mods, and Splices, as well as a psuedo-modification known as Transformation.
Mods
Mods are a type of Body Modification that involve either adding or enhancing the body in some manner. Many users of body mods have them out of necessity, an arm is lost in battle demands a prosthetic arm be given to them to maintain their function. Some, however, do them purely out of desire for enhancements to their strength. By adding armor to their skin, or by giving them acidic blood, they have more power, and consequently, are a more dangerous adversary. As a rule of thumb, Mods must follow a theme to be contained within a single ability slot. If a person had a puppet arm, giving themselves a puppet leg, or other puppet based enhancements would fall under a single ability slot. However, if they were to replace their eyes with the eyes of a falcon, then do another mod to give them lizard skin, they would require two separate abilities as they don't match thematically. Something following a theme is based on the discretion of the moderating team.
There are two ways to obtain a Mod.
- The first method is to start with it. Any character is allowed to start with a body mod, assuming its cleared through the history. The history must properly explain when and how they got the body mod, and why it was given to them. These body mods are scrutinized more heavily, and can be denied if the moderating team feels its too extensive to have at start.
- The second method is to obtain it in the roleplay. This requires that either your village or character have a NPC capable of performing body mods, or there is a character with the Organ Donor Iijutsu Concentration willing to do the Mod for you. Then you can simply roleplay it out a thread. We ask for the thread to be of a certain calibre, so if its a very simple thread without much effort put into it a mod might say it can’t be used as payment!
- As an extension of this, if the ability is something that is unlocked, such as a kekkei genkai, it can be unlocked via the same requirements as listed above.
Splices are similar to mods but occur on a genetic level. This is when genetic material from one host is taken and spliced into the central material of another host. This can grant a wide spectrum of abilities, from kekkei genkai unique to clans, to enhancing their strength with gene mutations. Splices are far more broad spectrum than Mods because they do not have to be something on a physical level, but can instead simply unlock access to unique forms of chakra. Splicing is rare, due to his difficulty and the fact that either a willing host, or a sizeable amount of genetic material from an unwilling host is necessary.
In order to perform a genetic splicing, your village must have an NPC with Organ Transplantation, or a character with the concentration must be willing to do it. Additionally, because the amount of material needed can be unclear until the procedure is actually under way, a willing host must be present (which requires approval from the Village Moderator inside villages), or an unwilling host must be captured. The following steps must be followed:
- With a willing host, the splicing can simply be roleplayed out. We ask for the thread to be of a certain calibre, so if its a very simple thread without much effort put into it a mod might say it can’t be used as payment!
- The use of an unwilling host requires you to capture the target, which must be equal to the rank of the recipient of the splicing, as well as a thread to actually perform the splicing.
Transformations
Transformations are form of psuedo-body modifications, as they involve altering the body in some way, but are not permanent changes, and do not always necessitate the use of the Organ Transplantation. Transformations involve a physiological shift in the user, may it be growing a body part, complete changes to their anatomy, or auras made of chakra that invoke specific abilities. Transformations typically invoke stat shifts, boosts to some stats and debuffs to others to grant a new fighting style to the user.
How a user comes into possession of a transformation is left to the discretion of the user. It can be done at creation, or through jutsu, or whatever other means. Due to the wide variety for transformations, there are no set parameters aside from a plot board of any rank to accomplish it. The rank of the plot board will be left to the discretion of the moderating team based on what the transformation is.
Transformations are, as the name suggests, transformations. This means that there must be some sort of method of activating the transformation, and it won't always be the state the user is in. Some transformations may utilize an [Ability Stat] to balance out the transformation and empower it.
And that is Body Modifications on NSRP
