AR D) NPC Rules

Post by NSRP » Wed Apr 01, 2020 2:28 am

This rules are currently decommissioned and will be updated in the near future. Inquiries regarding org NPCs should be direected to [this] page, or ask a staff member if you are interested in registering an NPC.

Non Playable Characters Non-Playable Characters, or NPCs, are classification of characters we have on the forum for various reasons. Their name can be a little misleading, as NPCs aren't actually Non-Playable, but merely not characters that are owned by an individual. This page will break down the three types of NPCs: Dynamic, Static, and Background, their uses, availability, and rules surrounding each. One important universal rule for NPCs to remember is that if you are not the creator of the NPC, always ask the creator before utilizing them!

Dynamic NPC The first class of NPC. Dynamic NPC are the closest to the PC characters we use every day. Dynamic NPCs exclusively belong to an organization. This means they are earned through Org rewards, and rank up through the organizational Org reward system. Dynamic NPCs are able to be utilized by any of the org members for individual socials and lonelies, with permission from the org leader. Additionally, the org leader can utilize a Dynamic NPC in any organizational events. Meaning if the organization was attacking a village, or under attack. The only major difference between a Dynamic NPC and a PC character is that a Dynamic NPC does not have an owner, meaning they cannot train jutsu, earn the organization resources, or earn stats for themselves. Otherwise, Dynamic NPCs have developed personalities, purpose, goals, and ideals. They are exactly as their name suggests: Dynamic characters. Dynamic NPCs can be created at any rank, based on the availability of the organization they belong to. Due to the nature of Dynamic NPCs it is entirely possible for one to abandon the organization that created them, but due to the nature of that process, it should be discussed with a Lead Mod if an org leader wants it to happen. All dynamic NPCs have a character sheet.

For the purpose of creation, Dynamic NPCs have a few restrictions.
  • A Dynamic NPC starts with the default stats for their rank.
  • At any point, including creation, Dynamic NPCs can have up to 25 additional stats added to them, representative of stat training.
  • Histories can defy common law of the universe.
  • Below is a table detailing the number of points a creator can spend on jutsu for a dynamic NPC, and how many they get to spend when ranking up that NPC.
  • Dynamic NPCs are allowed to get companions, but the companions are considered Static NPCs
  • Dynamic NPCs hold the same amount of equipment points as a fresh PC of equal rank does. (S-Rank NPCs default at 50 points for equipment). The Lead Mods/Global Mods can grant additional points if they feel it’s necessary to the character's design.

Static NPCs The second class of NPC. Static NPC are essentially stand ins for plot and development of character. While they can belong to an organization, Static NPCs don't serve in systematic value to an organization. They cannot be utilized in any PB stat earning topics to instigate movement, they can't be used in combat, and otherwise serve as plot devices. If a static NPC has a character sheet, it cannot be trained, and cannot rank up. The important thing to note about Static NPCs is that they must be developed by the roleplayers, and while they may have dynamic or indepth personalities, they are not self sufficient. A Static NPC would never have a lonely of themselves, and their importance is entirely reflective of the characters utilizing them for plot development. A Static NPC would lead a bland and uneventful life without the PCs around them. Static NPCs are bound to the common law of the universe upon creation, and can develop away from it through topics. A Static NPC does not require a character sheet, but they can be made if the roleplayer sees it necessary, or if the NPC is being created to be hunted, captured, or killed for whatever purpose.

For the purpose of creation, Static NPCs have the following restrictions.
  • Default stats and jutsu for their rank
  • Cannot be made from previous PCs
  • Cannot have stat training stats
  • History cannot defy the common law of the universe.
Background NPCs The final class of NPC. Background NPCs are exactly as their name suggests; background characters. This can be taken two ways, however. They can be characters in histories or lore for characters or clans. Or they can be characters used one off in socials, missions, etcs. Background NPCs are two dimensional, have little depth, and their existence is only relevant due to their connection to the character they are focused on because of. Background NPCs cannot defy the common law of the universe, and are bound by the morality, personality, and functions of the world around them. While background characters could theoretically cause some sort of plot, they are generally uneventful beings that have little importance. The most common examples of background NPCs are family members of characters, teammates from history and so forth. Because background characters have little significance, their stats, jutsu, styles, etc, can be improvised or made up, and they do not have character sheets except for in very rare circumstances.

In the event you wanted to hunt an NPC, there are a few rules.
  • The rules for hunting can be found here.
Hunting NPCs you've submitted to the archives will be allowed at the discretion of the staff with a GM+'s approval.

And that's NPCs on NSRP.
