So, as you can see, the big flip has occurred. Everything has been flipped. In this topic I'm going to detail the major changes so that you can get a general idea of what is different, but it is incredibly important that you read all the rules. The mechanisms the forum runs on have fundamentally changed in a way that will make it impossible for you to operate based on previous knowledge. All the rules are new, and everyone is starting with 0 knowledge, the exception being the people who helped with the overhaul.
This is a general walk through, I'm not going to get into specifics because that'd be redundant since you're going to read the rules anyways
Stats
We have expanded to a base 50 stat system. This means the very highest a stat can be is 50. Everything has been adjusted to match this new cap, with averages shifting up, requirements shift up, and work load shifting down. The over-all amount of work you have to put forth is approximately the same, but its completely different now. Additionally, stats act as a mechanism from ranking up. This means that within a rank you can have any number of stats between your current rank and your next rank. We've removed stat caps, altered stat boosting to be more straightforward, changes the rank averages to be non-linear, as well as the jutsu requirements for the ranks. Normal caps are 45, with 46-50 being reserved.
Concentrations
The number of concentrations you can get per jutsu type is still 8, but you're limited to a total of 18 now, rather than 24. This should be a change of negligible effect because no one has more than 18 concentrations anyways. In addition to this, we added a new type of ability, which effects concentrations, called Specialization. Specialization is how to break the cap of 45 and get your stats to 50. Certain concentrations are considered to be extremely time consuming or demand a lot of talent to learn, so in order to get them you must be a specialist. Being a specialist comes with certain advantages and disadvantages, which can be learned about inside the rules.
Missions
We got rid of missions, screw those things. And replaced them with plot boards. Essentially what a plot board is a series of topics tied together to cover a plot. Plot boards can be brief, or expansive, and reward stats based on their rank and how much they were graded at. Plot Boards are pretty broad, and can be used to cover a lot of aspects of character development.
Other Stuff
Honestly, a lot has changed. The genma got updated, there are rules on body mods and transformations, companions, summons got properly altered to match our lore, some of the stat definitions got changed, the archives are less expansive, but more defined, how clans worked got changed, and so much more. Just read the rules, you'll see.
But, the big question is how you're going to switch over.
SO! I'm going to make this as simple as possible.
Once you get into this Overhaul, you basically have three choices.
- Update your character to match the system
- Break down and rebuild your character.
- Dump the character.
Otherwise, the change is simple.
In [this] thread, I need you to post your characters rank, renown total, and number of times you've stat trained. When you do that, I'll reply, and update the post with how many stats your character gets to distribute. I know you guys are going to ask how we're doing it, but the honest answer is that the old system and the new system aren't contiguous with each other. Because of the shift from linear to non-linear, it was impossible to properly reflect the effort you put forth to rank up AND the effort you've put forward with stat training. So we have a rough equation that gets an approximate number, and will use that as a guideline to determine how many stats you get. If you see that someone else has roughly the same renown and stat trainings as you, you can use the stat total they got (this means renown deviates by 5 at the most, and stat trainings by 1 at the most).
Once you get that total, you can register. You're just going to register your character as you would if it was a new character DO NOT post a mod!!!!!! You will post all your jutsu, even if you have 200 jutsu on your app. And then the final post of your app will be a list of all the changes you made. This does need to include swaps for jutsu (if you convert a B-rank katon jutsu into 5 points, or swap it for a different Katon jutsu), but it does not need to include internal changes to a jutsu (updating the stats for the jutsu to match new rules). We no longer have coupons, so you can break down all your coupons into points too.
This additional post should be an itemized list, and include a link to the quote for how many stat points you're getting. If you have a link to the old character sheet, please include it, but it is not required.
You can continue to rp with your characters, you can continue your topics, and your timeline is remaining, so don't worry about losing progress. If you were waiting to post a mod, you can post the modification while your character is being re-registered, it can be 1/2d, then when your character has been accepted, just post saying you've been accepted and the mod can be accepted.
I really don't know what else to say. I hope you all like the changes. I know its a lot, so as always questions, comments, concerns, thank yous and fuck yous can be directed to this thread, to the PM system, via skype, or via the cbox.
Love you all,
