Hi all,

It was suggested it might be a good use of time to assess if an in-character currency would really be used. I agree, so thats what this topic is! One of the proposals, as many of you have read, is to either convert to exclusively an in character currency, or have two one in character, one out of character. I don't need anyone to debate the merits of whether there should be one or two at this point, since I think we've more or less gathered the primary points. I really just want to understand if people are interested in actually using a currency IC. Stuff that an IC currency would allow would be:
  • Hiring other characters to do things for you
  • Bribe village officials or country officials for safety/passage/etc.
  • Purchase weapons directly from other characters/haggle prices that would otherwise be hard-set by staff
  • Personally place bounties on the heads of your enemies
  • Probably some other stuff I haven't thought of.
So simple question, 4 options
Yes would definitely utilize this option
Would use it, but not specifically create opportunities to
Would only use when other roleplayer wants to
Would neverr use.

Pretty self explanatory. Stating why you're voting the way you are is not required, but would be helpful.

Hard never/no camp.
Adding more complexity; which is even more off putting to new folks than what we have now.
Errherr im rich in the rp so I do whatever i want
Adding already more complexity to a system that already has so many broken things in need of help seems backwards in terms of priority.

Can you expand on this? I see this as an easy way to introduce roleplay opportunists between low and high ranking characters, and transfer wealth from high ranking characters to low ranking ones.

I personally like the idea of it, as a separate entity, you have in character currency and out of character currency, one for things you can actually purchase and the other for system purchases such as buying stats and jutsu.

I enjoy in-game currency in RP form. Having come form a forum years ago now that used it, I find it to be a useful and immersive tool to have on a forum based RP like this to further make the characters feel real, in a sense. I also just like the idea of having separate currencies for in game stuff and more meta stuff. It's slightly neater in my mind despite there being an additional currency to keep track of.

I would definitely use this system.

The reasoning behind this is that someone IC could just say that they are rich and boom there it is. It doesnt give the same amount of credibility as if it was earned in character and managed by the character and not just the player.

Yes, would definitely use.

I'm a big fan of bringing in a economic system. It has a lot of benefits that come with it, and any potential flaws are exactly the same as they are with the current system. It allows for a bigger freedom in IC situation and also has the potential to create plenty of RP opportunities. Members could fight over other characters possessions, and ultimately loot them when the opportunities arose. Personally I'm a fan of having more than one currency, based on resources that could be placed on the map, creating more RP opportunities like MN taking over a mine or something.

I like this, change is good!

I mean IC Currency makes sense for someone who's character is a mercenary that has also joined an org with other mercenaries it makes too much sense. Actuall hiring could happen between PC and NPC's buying equipment etc you get the gist!

Using an IC currency just irks me; it removes wealth from the background which can no longer be RPed as people want and then there's the fact that you kind of get it from OOC sources and don't need to RP every single use of it.

Even buying or resupplying equipment is irksome when not doing every payment IC, as it feels very strange to have this currency for said things but handwaving most of the transactions.

Then we want to also add RP manipulation to it? That adds on to the above and kind of makes this situation were you have to RP RP RP.
Slower rpers fall behind in the RP itself rather than just worrying about the level of their character which doesn't really matter in RP terms.

Will I use it if we got it? Yes. However I voted that I would not because I do not wish to.

Nishiki has been becoming more money oriented with doing stuff for money etc but I would not wish for it to actually manipulate and warp the RP.

I know some sites like OPRP etc used currencies but even that was still OOC and people could RP otherwise, probably stealing a weapon or something despite paying for it with the currency OOC much like how points already work.

Now if points turned into Ryo in a similar fashion then I would be down for that.

A good way to make it work be to make two different currencies one where it's tied to o o c benefits and another currency that is tied to in character benefits of and maybe even out of character benefits of some sort. Like perhaps creating a character who is wealthy would cost a certain amount of out of character currency but a benefit/advantage would be an allowance or an access to inheritance. Then you could even do levels of inheritance which cost more out of character real than in character Rio
