Jutsu Training – Skin Separation
503/400
What a way to start the day. The sun was shining, the birds were singing, and there was a dead body on the table in front of him. Life was indeed good at this particular moment for Hirohito Hideki. Taking a sip from his coffee, he looked over the chart that he had sitting on the chest of his cadaver. Whoever the man was, he had died from a heart attack. With a shrug, he put his coffee down next to his table of instruments and moved the clipboard to the same table. It didn't really matter how he died. Hideki was just using the cadaver to touch up his skills in the basic medical techniques. He knew he wasn't rusty but he also wanted to be dead sure before he got to work in his new role with the Head Hunter Division.

Holding his already sterilized and gloved hands out over the chest of his cadaver, Hideki took a deep breath and focused on his chakra. Slowly the energy built up in his hands until it was almost visible as a light blue glow. Lowering his hands to an inch above the chest, starting at the collarbone he began to slowly move his hands across the torso of the cadaver. The chakra in his hands very gently and carefully flowed from Hideki and into the corpse, sinking into the pores and through the skin. Now came the tricky part. Hideki had to visualize the chakra as he manipulated it, turning it into a light blue and incredibly thin barrier between the hypodermis and the underlying muscle and bone.

When he was finally satisfied that the barrier would remain intact, he moved his hands down a little further and repeated the process across the midsection. This time it was a little faster as Hideki was getting into the swing of things. Again the chakra flowed through the layers of skin until the energy reached the hypodermis. The chakra flattened and covered the midsection, the blue energy forming a barrier that would make separating the skin from the muscle a lot easier when he started the try autopsy.

He lifted his hands away from the corpse and let his chakra flow die off. The barriers would hold in place for a little while yet, so he took another mouthful of his coffee before picking up his favorite scalpel. The only way to ensure that the barriers had formed and thus the technique had been done correctly was to cut into the skin and peel it away. Starting from the shoulders, Hideki made his y-shaped incision down the body. Once that was done, he grabbed a forceps from his table and held up one of the flaps of skin, using his scalpel to separate it from the muscle below. Sure enough he found a light blue layer of chakra that prevented his scalpel from damaging the muscle and to help guide his cutting. Good to know he still had that technique down pat at least.

Jutsu Training – Storage: Supplies
654/400
Hideki lay back in his wheeled chair, one foot up on his desk and his arms dangling towards the ground while he stared up into space. He had two experiments that were currently in the phase where he couldn't really interact with them and a lot of his other plans were only just beginning and he needed a few more materials before he could really get started. All of which led to his current predicament; what in the blue blazes was he supposed to do for the next few hours? He pushed back in his chair even further until finally an idea hit him. Well, not so much hit him as much as smacked him in the face and made him fall ass over tit when his chair fell out from under him. Patting himself down to make sure none of his vials had accidently broken, Hideki clambered to his feet and made his way over to a series of filing cabinets.

Plopping back down at his desk, Hideki unraveled two scrolls and set up an ink pot and brush. It was time to go over his basic sealing techniques. It was something he had been meaning to do for a while but he kept getting sidetracked with more pressing issues. Now that he had a quiet moment, it was time to relearn the basics. It had been far too long since he studied them and a few of his upcoming experiments were going to need quite a bit of sealing knowledge.

Hideki's eyes moved over the first of the two scrolls, the one that he had used back when he was just getting started. The first seal was the ever so simple [Storage: Supplies]. Less an actual sealing technique and more a starting point for beginners but it was a fundamental skill that needed to be practiced. Lifting his brush, he dipped it into his inkwell and gently applied the tip to his second scroll. This one was completely blank and would be more than sufficient for practicing basic sealing techniques for a few hours. If it wasn't then he had plenty of other scrolls tucked away just waiting to be filled with practice seals.

Quick, precise, and efficient. Those were words Hideki rather embodied when he practiced his calligraphy. One could go as slow and as neat as they possibly could to make the perfect seal and, on occasion, would be in the right. However more often than not sealing techniques needed to be prepared and applied in the heat of battle which meant being able to write neatly but quickly. With each brushstroke, Hideki looked between his version of the seal and the one on the beginners scroll. They were beginning to make an almost perfectly identical pair. Without lifting his brush from the paper he transitioned from one character into another, a very thin line of black ink connecting the two with a slight flourish in it. It had been a long time since he had practiced sealing but it was like throwing a kunai. One never truly forgets how, it's simply a matter of getting back into the swing of things.

Carefully applying the finishing touches to the seal he gave it a once over before nodding to himself and placing the brush aside. Opening one of his desk drawers, Hideki picked up his ink pot and placed it atop the scroll and quickly drying seal. Fingers folding together into a set of hand seals he had practiced before, Hideki focused his chakra into the seal which glowed faintly around the edges before a large plume of smoke erupted from the paper. Coughing, Hideki waved away the smoke and looked at the now blank spot where the ink pot had been sitting a second ago. A smirk slowly spread across his face. It was nice to know he was right once again. It really was just like throwing a kunai.

Jutsu Training – Finger Engraving Seal
444/400
Now that he had touched base with his sealing techniques, it was time to start with a technique he had practically ignored when he had first started learning the art of fuuinjutsu. Making sure his brush wouldn't roll of his desk top, Hideki took a breath and closed his eyes. He focused on his chakra and directed the flow to concentrate in his left index finger, more specifically in his fingertip. Having been doing control techniques such as this for a while, the manipulation of his chakra flow was simple enough. It only took a few minutes before Hideki felt the familiar sensation of his chakra building up for a technique.

Opening his eyes, Hideki looked at the scroll he had used to practice his Minor Weapon sealing technique on and pushed it slightly to the side. He would use that seal as a reference for the seal he hoped to create this time, just without any ink. Clenching his fist so that only his left index finger was out like a pencil, he lowered his fingertip to his desk and started to write. The chakra made a slight scorch mark, like an outline of his seal, but didn't burn into the desk like it should have. With a frown, Hideki adjusted the amount of chakra he was holding in his finger and started the process again.

This time the scorch marks were more prominent but again it didn't want to engrave. Perhaps it was not simply a question of how much chakra he was using but also how he was using it. The energy build up was enough to cause the scorch marks that much was certain, but perhaps he needed to shape the chakra like he did in certain medical techniques. Focusing on the chakra in his finger, he adjusted the flow once more and reduced the sheer amount that he had built up and changed the way the new chakra flowed in. Rather than just gathering and sitting in his fingertip, the chakra now flowed out just a little and formed into a point.

With a slight glare at the table as if it was all its fault that Hideki had failed the first two attempts at this technique, he once more began to write out his Minor Weapon storage seal. This time he felt the wood of the table give way just a little as his finger traced the seal. As he lifted his hand away, sure enough, he saw the seal carved into his desk and waiting to be used. Two techniques down in one sitting? Hideki was starting to question why he hadn't started retraining his Fuuinjutsu earlier.

Jutsu Training – Numbing
579/550
Looking back, one could not help but wonder if this entire situation could have been avoided if he simply been a little more patient. Then again, the bespectacled doctor was not a man known for his patience when it came to dunderheads – let alone ones that dared to interrupt his experiments. He supposed that technically the man had some right to be in the room, he was Hideki's lab assistant after all, but that didn't excuse the fact that he had sneezed right when Hideki had been mixing two very dangerous chemicals. Naturally, the doctor had prevented any potential explosions from occurring but it still needed to be punished.

What hadn't been anticipated was the fact that his assistant would have an allergic reaction to the poison that Hideki had, admittedly rather violently, plunged into his neck. It hadn't taken long to formulate an antidote considering he knew a medical technique for such a situation but now he had to deal with the fact that his assistant had broken out in hives along his neck and ceased to desist in his scratching of them, no matter how much Hideki had insisted. Deciding it would be far simpler to just cure them, Hideki set about numbing the hives to prevent further scratching while Hideki made the necessary antidote.

With a quick few hand seals, he started to gather chakra into his hands as he brought up the memories of learning this technique years ago. It had been a while since he had bothered to numb someone before he experimented on them, so the technique was a little rusty. The energy gathered in his hands and he lowered them to his assistant's neck. It took a little more effort than he had thought would be necessary I order to get his chakra to comply to his control. Hideki knew he had more than enough control for such a basic technique, it had simply been far too long since he had bothered to use the Numbing iijutsu. It was a field technique, after all. Typically Hideki had a number of other methods he could use for anesthesia at hand.

Soon enough though, the familiar green glow of a well performed medical Ninjutsu enveloped his hands and the chakra set to work. First, it coated the area of his assistant's neck that had been covered in hives. It sat for a moment as Hideki allowed the numbing effect to take hold before he forced the chakra down through the skin and into the layer just between the muscle and the skin. He grit his teeth a little as he started to lose control over the chakra before it could fully take effect. When he realized that his new patient was wriggling around as if trying to reach up to scratch, Hideki considered that he might not be the one losing control. With a sharp glare, he roughly pushed his assistant back down onto the operating table and held him steady, all without cutting off the chakra flow. Sure enough, once the idiot boy was stable, the numbing green chakra was able to work its magic a lot easier. Seeping down through the skin and settling within the muscle blow, it only took a few more seconds before the numbness was fully set in.

Taking his hands away from the hives, he picked up a nearby needle and jammed it straight into the area and watched for any reaction from his patient. Nothing. Excellent.

Jutsu Training – Adept Cure
991/850
Glancing between his slightly delirious lab assistant and the container in which he had synthesized an antidote to the poison Hideki had drugged him with, he couldn't help but see the potential opportunity here. There was a technique he knew which expanded on the basic antidote technique which not only cured the effects of the poison it had been synthesized from but also induced a temporary immunity to the same poison. The only problem was he had never attempted to use the technique on a poison of this level. Well, he said problem. It wasn't really. Not for Hideki. It was simply a technique he had yet to master, something he planned to rectify right at this moment.

Carefully lifting the beaker he had used to synthesize the poison, he moved it over to a bench safely away from the delirious lab assistant and set to work. In theory the technique to produce the cure was simply an extension of the technique used to create the antidote. In actual practice, it was a little more complicated. The method to develop the cure required a lot more finesse and power than the antidote technique did. He was still feeling a little drained from the performing two medical techniques in a row but with his fine-tuned control he doubted he would fail in this task.

Bringing his hands together at his chest, he folded his fingers through the hand seals he used for the weaker variant of this technique. Rather than immediately moving his hands to the beaker and starting the process as he would have with a weaker poison, Hideki took a moment to allow the healing chakra to build up in his palms. He would prefer to get this right on the first attempt, rather than repeatedly wasting chakra with weaker efforts. It took roughly a minute until Hideki felt satisfied with the amount of chakra now flowing into his hands and through his fingers.

Lifting his hands just slightly so that he would be able to see the green glow of the healing chakra, Hideki smiled a little. He never once regretted abandoning his full time medical studies in order to pursue other avenues of experimentation but there was something about medical Ninjutsu that Hideki found extremely satisfying. Perhaps it was the fact that he was so very good at them? With a chuckle, he carefully pressed one hand on the side of the beaker and lowered the other hand over the top. With a deep breath, he focused on his chakra once more and began the process of channeling it from his hands and into the antidote within the beaker.

As the chakra trickled into the liquid it took on the same green glow that had enveloped his hands, if somewhat weaker in intensity. The antidote worked, Hideki knew that much already seeing as he had used it not a moment before, so he had no need to worry about that particular aspect. What his green healing chakra was doing was forcing more energy into the concoction and modifying certain minor aspects of it in order to improve the potency. It was a meticulous and somewhat draining process, something that Hideki should have remembered from his uses with the weaker version of the same technique.

Having to manipulate his chakra constantly, never allowing it to slip from his control for fear of contaminating the antidote, was something that had Hideki literally sweating from the strain. Not profusely, of course, but a few drops were forming on his forehead and upper lip. Gods how he disdained sweat. If he ever thought of a better way for humans to maintain body temperature that didn't involve sweating, Hideki would immediate perform the necessary modifications. Ah, but he was getting sidetracked. Thankfully in his daydreams of human perfection he hadn't lost control of his chakra.

Once the liquid was maintaining a healthy green glow as his chakra continued to flow into the antidote, Hideki carefully pulled away his hand that was resting on the top of the beaker. The hand on the side continued to manipulate the healing chakra in order to invigorate the antidote but he also needed to swirl it around a little. It would not only help to mix his chakra through the antidote but also kept Hideki focused on the task at hand. Carefully picking up the beaker without breaking contact from the hand still performing the technique, he swirled the liquid and watched as the light within seemed to dance.

After a few minutes of swirling while constant channeling his chakra, Hideki put the beaker back down and slowly took his other hand away from the beaker, breaking his control over the technique. If everything had gone correctly, which Hideki was positive it had, then the antidote could now be considered a cure, by the terms of the technique at the very least. He gave the antidote a few minutes to settle from the manipulation and watched as the glow steadily drained from the liquid until it was the same as it had originally been.

Taking up a syringe, he filled it with the now altered antidote and stepped over to his lab assistant with a small but decidedly twisted smile. With a careful eye, he located the vein in his arm that would carry the antidote and quickly injected it. With a cry of pain, the assistant pulled his arm away and give Hideki a glare as he clambered off the table and started running towards the door. Hideki took two long strides, got right up behind the assistant and injected him once more though this time in the part of his neck that Hideki had numbed earlier.

No reaction. Not a damn one. And considering the boy simply continued on his way out of the laboratory, Hideki had to assume that the cure had been a success. All in all, not bad for a days work.

Shadows of the Division – Part I
1327
The diagnosis was unmistakable. The convulsions had ceased, which was the original intent of the drug administered, but so had everything else. No brain activity, no heartbeat, nothing. The subject was deceased. With a long suffering sigh, the bespectacled doctor standing over the operating table removed his gloves and tossed them into a nearby waste can specifically for used gloves and the like. He had been sure that the serum would be successful on this attempt, but like all the others it had resulted in uncontrollable seizures and then death. The seizures he had been prepared for this time. What hadn't been anticipated was the result of the two drugs combined with the subjects own weak will. It would have to be accounted for in the next test, which he would begin as soon as he could acquire a new suitable candidate for the serum.

Stalking from the operating room, Hideki made his way down the dank halls that made up his section of the Head Hunter Division headquarters. What an odd sensation that was. Knowing that this department was his to run as he saw fit. At first he had assumed that his mysterious recruiter, Karagata Shiv, had simply been talking up the role he was to assume within the division in order to acquire his easy acceptance. He planned to accept the offer in either case; even if he had been forced to work under some buffoon that the Division already had in place. The potential benefits had simply outweighed the cons of the situation. His mind had already started the planning process for worming his way into the 2IC position and then 'convincing' the division head to step down. Of course, all of that had been for naught.

Karagata had delivered on his promise and the morning after he had been recruited, there was a team of laboratory assistants waiting outside of his door in order to assist him in moving his current experiments to the headquarters. A smirk stretched across his lips as he recalled scaring some dunderhead out of his mind with the threat of becoming his next text subject. It was entirely the buffoon's fault though; he had tried to move his files. When it came to his filing system, Hideki was meticulous and would not have some halfwit fool who could barely tell him what the difference between and anesthetic and an analgesic was. Speaking of said filing system, Hideki stepped into his office and flicked on the lights.

Immediately the room lit up in a dull glow. Shrugging his white coat off and hanging it from a hook just beside the door, he made his way across the room. As he walked across to his desk, Hideki reached out and lit his fingers trail along the spines of the volumes lining the bookshelf that made up the left wall of the office. Without even having to look his long fingers snatched a particularly old leather bound journal. The pages had yellowed with time and some of the text was beyond comprehension, but what he had been able to read had proved to be one of the greatest finds Hideki had ever procured. It was a medical journal that had once belonged to a practitioner who had a similar outlook to Hideki's own. If science was to advance, sacrifices had to be made. The journal detailed experiments with the human body that Hideki himself had only considered as a fantasy. But the journal had described the process in great length which had only inspired the doctor to try the experiment himself. Which was what had led him to his current… predicament.

There was an entire page that was completely indecipherable. Whether it was due to age or sabotage, Hideki was still uncertain, but it contained the key to the success of his formula and thus his experiments. He had the ingredients necessary and prepared them in every possible method he could conceive but the end result was always the same. At first it would appear as if the serum was taking hold but then the seizures would begin and death would soon follow. It was frustrating to say the least. What the page contained had to be the way the formula was prepared. Some method he hadn't considered.

With another frustrated sigh he dropped the journal onto his desk and lowered himself into his leather office chair. It was one of the few pieces of furniture he had brought along with him from his old place of residence. He had had this chair for a long time and was unwilling to part with it. Despite its age it was still in pristine condition. Taking a moment to relax, he glanced up at the ceiling and considered the large sealing array painted onto it. He could barely understand what it was, and that only added to his current frustration. It was a part of the security system he knew the headquarters had, he knew that much, but it still annoyed him that he couldn't break it down and learn all there was about it. He lacked that level of knowledge in the sealing arts for a start and then there was also the fact that he sincerely doubted he would be allowed to simply pick apart the security system of the Head Hunter Division just to satisfy his own curiosity.

With a shake of his head, he put the seal out of his mind and picked up his pen before opening his own journal. He had filled out several of them at this stage in his career. His old medical journals were kept on a separate bookshelf in his private quarters, attached to his office through a door in the rear right-hand corner of the room. As Hideki wrote down what he had discovered in this particular attempt of his experiment, which he noted with no small amount of annoyance was attempt twenty-three, he found his mind wandering to what the division would ask of him.

So far, Hideki had been left to his own devices for the most part. He had spent a few days with the few assistants he had been allowed to keep getting the laboratories setup and reestablishing his own experiments in a new location. After that, he had fully expected to have his services called upon for the use of the hunters or the interrogation departments, but had heard nothing from either of them and seen neither hide nor hair of anyone outside of his own division. Even Karagata seemed to have disappeared. While it did allow him the time necessary for his attempts with this new serum formula, it was also incredibly disconcerting. There was a feeling in the pit of his stomach that he was either being left out of the loop on purpose as he had only just been recruited into the division, or that something was going to happen soon and this was simply the calm before the storm. If there was one thing that Hideki despised it was being uninformed.

With a flourish of his pen, Hideki finished the journal entry and snapped his journal closed. Leaning back in his chair, he folded his fingers under his chin and stared at the door directly across from his desk. He would need to do some investigating of his own in order to find out what was truly going on. He would also be discreet about it, of course. On the off chance that he was being kept out of the loop on purpose, there was no need to alert his new superiors to his nosing about. Besides, if he could obtain some sort of usable intelligence without their knowing, he could always use that to manipulate things in his favor. A dark smirk settled across his features as he continued to stare at the door. Hirohito Hideki was a man who lurked in the shadows, but was never left in the dark.

Jutsu Training – Remove Sealing: Tiny
408/400
Hideki had once again returned to his studies of fuuinjutsu. He had both the scrolls he had used in his earlier attempts with the sealing arts, though instead of writing out a seal this time he would be undoing the seal he had created earlier. First thing was first though. Bringing his hand up into a half-ram seal, he channeled just enough chakra into the seal to release the ink bottle sealed inside. He let the smoke dissipate before moving away the ink and setting to work.

Again he created a hand seal with one hand that allowed him to focus his chakra to the other. More specifically, into his finger tip in a similar method to what he had done with the Finger Engraving technique. The chakra gathered in his finger tip and he allowed it to settle for a moment before he lowered his finger to the scroll and began to carefully outline the seal Storage Seal he had written a few days ago. The technique he was using at the moment was specifically for removing D-Rank Fuuinjutsu but it was rather fundamental to learning the technique to remove any rank of seal.

As his finger moved a very faint blue glow was left in its wake, outlining the black ink of the seal. He was being a lot more cautious with this than he would have been in painting a new seal for the simple reason that he had no desire to waste his chakra. A mistake made in ink could be removed and repaired with minimal effort. A mistake made with chakra, even in such a low ranking technique, would require him to begin the process all over again and that was not something that Hideki had any mind towards doing.

His finger began tracing back along the same path it had just followed, only this time it was on the opposite side of the ink. Once he was complete, the entire seal had a soft blue glow outlining it due to his chakra seeping into the seal. He took a moment to channel his chakra from his finger to his palm and then slapped it down over the top of the ink. The chakra flooded from his palm and raced to fill the outlined area. Hideki allowed the chakra a moment to do its work before he slowly lifted his hand and released his hand seal. Sure enough, the fuuinjutsu had been completely erased.

Jutsu Training – Beyond Senses
1542/1500
Hideki sat silently in his office, contemplating the uneasy feelings he had been getting for the last few weeks. At first it was only when he thought he was being watched but now it had escalated to the point of occurring whenever he was around another ninja. Considering he was the head of the medical division for an organization of nothing but ninja, that was pretty much all the time. The resulting sense of unease and the constant headache he had was making his job extremely difficult. At first he assumed it was an aftereffect of an old self-experiment but had quickly dismissed that notion. He had performed a number of diagnostic techniques on himself and even tried self-medication but nothing seemed to help. All in all it suggested that the problem wasn't physical and Hideki refused to believe it was mental.

His headache suddenly increased and he let out a growl before throwing a scalpel at his door. The blade embedded itself in the reinforced glass of the window right before it struck whoever was just outside in the eye. Hideki watched with a dark smirk as one of his lab assistants took off at a sprint away from his office. And then his eyes narrowed as his headache passed and his mind starting churning a mile a minute. The headaches, the uneasiness, they always occurred whenever someone with a decent amount of chakra neared him. They were at their worst whenever he was around Karagata, the strongest shinobi that Hideki had any sort of personal interaction with.

Closing his eyes Hideki drew a deep breath and, rather than trying to ignore his headache, focused all of his attention on it. The sudden pain in his head was immense and the scientist winced but kept his focus, if only barely. There were a few more moments of pain before it passed and Hideki carefully opened his eyes. As a medic, he had always been in tune with his chakra flow to some degree; control over his chakra was paramount after all. Typically he could feel its movements if he was truly concentrating on it in the middle of a technique. However, that had always been in the middle of an active technique. Right now, without performing any kind of Ninjutsu or Genjutsu, Hideki could feel his chakra flow. Lifting his hand, the scientist studied the subtle blue glow with a curious gaze. It was with a start he realized that his eyes were still closed.

He had heard of sensory-type ninja before. It was a rare skill that required a great amount of control and understand of Ninjutsu and the way chakra worked. Hideki always considered useful but never imagined that he would have access to some level of it. If his theory was right, it was being in the constant presence of trained shinobi that had triggered the latent ability within him. The headaches and sense of unease around the other ninja in the division had been his sensory skills starting to develop. Of course, this was all a theory and it could simply be the fact that he had accidently poisoned himself in one of his experiments and all of this was simply a hallucination induced by his body trying to fight the toxins.

… Personally, he preferred the former hypothesis to the latter.
After taking the day to ensure that he had, in fact, not poisoned himself, Hideki found himself sitting atop of one of his operating tables. His lab coat had been left hanging over the back of a chair and the scientist had seriously considered discarding his turtleneck as well but decided against it. While he wasn't ashamed of his, admittedly rather scrawny, body he had no desire to reveal the numerous scars that littered his torso to anyone that happened to walk into the laboratory. It would lead to questions which Hideki had no desire to answer. What he did to his own body in his own time was his own business.

With a deep sigh, Hideki brought his hands together at his chest level and started focusing on his chakra. It took but a few moments for his mind to snap back to that place he had discovered, where he actually translated the information his chakra was feeding him into the visual representation of what he was sensing. It was like he was seeing himself from a third person point of view, a glowing blue beacon in a void of mute grey. Hideki couldn't prevent the small upturn at the corner of his lips. A skill such as this was invaluable as both a medical ninja and as a member of the Head Hunter Division.

Now that he had a more solid grasp on exactly what his new sensory ability was supposed to look like in his mind's eye, Hideki refocused his attention on his chakra and started to very gradually expand it away from his own person. If he was going to truly apply himself and study this new ability, he would need to determine the limit of his sensory perception. It took a few tries before he finally felt his chakra expand from beyond the confines of the laboratory. It was another few minutes before he finally located his first chakra course, aside from himself that is.

There was someone walking down the hallway just outside the laboratory. The soft blue glow that encompassed the figure grew in intensity as they walked past the door and then faded into a muted blue as they rounded a corner and kept walking. Eventually Hideki could feel nothing but a general sense of which direction they were headed until finally he could no longer track the individual. That was… curious. He had hoped he would be able to use his new sensory technique in order to track the movements of the people within his department but his range seemed to be limited to a few feet; somewhere between eight and ten if he had to estimate. The only clear picture he had gotten of the individual's chakra was when they had been directly passing by the lab. After that he had only been able to obtain a general sense of direction for a few yards.

Once again he refocused his concentration and started to send out his feelers, so to speak. This time he ignored the individual chakra signatures and rather than trying to follow them, expanded his senses as far as he could manage in every direction. Hideki could feel the sweat starting to build on his lip and forehead at the rather strenuous use of his chakra. He tended to avoid activities that required high chakra usage for the simple fact he didn't have the most amazing chakra reserves in Kiri. In fact, they were pretty much average for a ninja of Chuunin level. If it wasn't for the fact that he had such good control over his chakra, an exercise like this would not have been possible. Then again, it was his first time using his new sensory technique. With more training his control would increase and he wouldn't have to expend so much chakra in the process.

Forcing himself back to the matter at hand, Hideki started to feel for the chakra sources. He could count how many there were, about eight in total, but he couldn't tell how much chakra each of them had nor which way they were headed with his senses expanded to their limits. The ones closest to him, two in the room adjacent to his laboratory, were clear enough, but everything beyond the range of about ten feet seemed like it was… muted for lack of a better term. Releasing his hold on the chakra that was scanning his surroundings, Hideki slowly opened his eyes and let out a long breath. He carefully lifted his hand to his eye level and noticed the shaking that had started. The scientist was displaying the early stages of chakra exhaustion. Perhaps training a brand new ability hadn't been the best idea after performing a number of medical Ninjutsu?

It was no matter. He had discovered a new, and very useful, ability that would only improve his ability as a ninja and a scientist. Seeing as he could see the chakra now, it would only improve his understanding of how it worked and in turn improve his ability to creation devices that manipulated chakra. Carefully he unfolded his legs and lowered himself from the operating table, shaking his legs out to try and get the feeling to return. That was when he remembered the two chakra sources in the room directly adjacent to the one he was in.

Focusing just a little of his chakra in the same way he had not a minute earlier, he honed in on the two chakra sources. It was almost like he could see straight through the solid concrete wall. The two chakra sources were connected at the head and Hideki smirked. This was going to be fun. Taking up a hammer he used occasionally in his experiments, the scientist slammed it against the concrete. The two chakra sources quickly separated to opposite sides of the room and Hideki let out a dark chuckle.

Jutsu Training – H30 Activation: Delayed
560/550
Since the time when he had first started using poisons and needles as his primary method of combat, Hideki had been considering multiple methods of dispersal. Casting his gaze to his wrist, a small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. While it wasn't the perfect weapon, his wrist-mounted senbon launcher was still by far one of his favorite creations simply because he had designed it when he was still a mere Genin. In the time between then and now, however, Hideki had been neglecting his weapons in pursuit of other avenues. The only weapon he had developed was resting in the palm of his hand and was also the current source of Hideki's annoyance.

The design was flawless. With no explosive material required, he could easily recycle old containers and 'reload' the ammunition. The rapid spinning of the device combined with the strength of the senbon launchers within made for an excellent poison delivery method. The only problem was the activation. He required some kind of chakra trigger which meant developing a whole new technique. In theory the technique had to be nothing more than a C-Rank. Activating the device with the technique and then throwing it would work.

Bringing his hands together in a quick set of seals, Hideki allowed his chakra to flow down the length of his arm and into the device. The energy quickly flowed throughout the separate launchers in a manner similar to how he activated his wrist-mounted weapon. As the chakra flowed throughout the device, he listened carefully as the springs wound back into place and locked in, ready to be release at a moment's notice. His eyebrows shot up into his hairline when he realized his mistake. Throwing the device clear across the room, the scientist ducked down and tossed the table he had been standing behind over on its side.

… There was a problem.

After a minute of not getting peppered by needles, Hideki took the chance and carefully poked his head over the top of the table. He scowled at the contents scattered all over the floor and his scowl only deepened when he realized that the 'grenade' had not activated like he had hoped it would have. He reached out with his senses and could feel the chakra still lingering within the device. With an annoyed click of his tongue, Hideki took a moment to think about it. He knew the chakra was there and the device was prepped. But there was still something missing, kind of like a key ingredient. The more he thought about it the more it felt like the same situation with an exploding tag. It was like it was waiting for a trigger to ignite it.

… Ah.

Quickly slapping his hands together once more, this time Hideki only made a single seal and focused his chakra into the device half way across the room. This time he heard the distinct click of the device opening before shooting itself up into the air with a burst of chakra. When the device started to spin, Hideki dropped down behind the desk once more and sat back as he listened to the soothing sound of thirty senbon rapidly firing all throughout his laboratory. The smile only grew when he remembered that there had been no experiments of value being performed at the same time.

Jutsu Training – Basic Hunter's Mark Locator

Since discovering his ability to use his chakra as a type of extra sensory perception, Hideki had been experimenting with different ways in which he could apply his new favorite toy. So far he had been unable to extend his range any further than twenty-five yards and his 'zone of clarity', as he had come to call it, was still a rather pathetic ten feet. What he was hoping to achieve with his current plan was a way to bypass his frustratingly limited zone of clarity, even if it meant sacrificing the general sensory ability he had at the moment.

Picking up the seal he had spent the last few hours developing, Hideki gave it one last inspection before determining that it should be fine for use. The seal itself was tied to Hideki's chakra and served no other purpose except for as a homing beacon for what he hoped would be a more pinpoint method of tracking with his sensory technique. It took the scientist fifteen minutes to scatter five copies of the seal. Two were in specific places where they wouldn't be moved while the other three were being carried, unknowingly, by a few of the stragglers wandering around headquarters.

Sitting back into his chair, Hideki took a breath and closed his eyes as he tapped into his mind's eye. Immediately Hideki's senses stretched out to their maximum range as he had been practicing. Bringing his hands together, Hideki carefully went through the series of hand seals he had decided on that would focus his chakra on the chakra flowing through the seals he had scattered through the division. His head started to pound when his senses for forced to narrow back on Hideki himself before seeking out the seals. It didn't take long to find the first seal. He knew exactly where it was, on the opposite side of his office door. It had the same effect that Hideki had noticed when he first starting noticing his sensory ability. The seal was lit up with a blue glow like a beacon in the night.

Again his senses stretched further until he found the second stationary seal. This one was in his laboratory, which was roughly seven yards away from his office give or take a few feet. So far, so good. He noticed he was unable to pick up any chakra signature other than those of his seals while he held the hand seal of the technique. Even his own, which normally stood out seeing as he was the epicenter of his senses, seemed muted in comparison to the seals. Finally it was time to locate the moving seals, which proved to be far more difficult than he had first imagined. By the time he managed to lock on to the first of the three seals Hideki was starting to question whether it was going to be possible to track the seal whilst it was in transit.

Now he had three of the five seals located and he was having to constantly track the moving one. He could tell when it ascended stairs or delved deeper into the caverns of the headquarters. When he finally managed to locate the fourth seal, his head started throbbing uncontrollably at the strain of tracking so many things at such a distance. Letting his focus clear of the two stationary seals, he found the pain was a little more bearable when just tracking the two moving ones. It seemed that the limitations on his standard ability were in place for a reason. His mind couldn't handle such precision over an entire twenty-five yards… yet.

But if he limited himself to two of his new seals at a time, perhaps three at most, then Hideki felt as if he should be able to track them without much of a problem.

Shadows of the Division – Part II
1018
Hideki found himself standing in the training facilities that lay under Kirigakure, created for and maintained by the Head Hunter Division. It had been a long time since Hideki had even considered training in the ninja arts. True enough, he kept up to date with his medical techniques and had started to delve into Fuuinjutsu, but everything else had been dropped in favor of his experiments. In fact, Hideki hadn't bothered with the combative side of being a shinobi since his Genin days. The only reason he had gained his current rank was his expertise as a medic and his knowledge of poisons. Now here he stood, staring into space as he considered why he was here.

There was a reason he hadn't trained for so long; the simple fact that the thought of being a shinobi before being a scientist repulsed him. The only reason he was a shinobi in the first place was for access to funds for his research that would be otherwise difficult to obtain in the militant Kirigakure. And yet, since he had joined the Head Hunter Division, there had been a small part of him, in the very back of his mind, which thought it was time to take up the mantle of shinobi once more. Perhaps it was his pride, demanding he prove that lacking physical strength made him no less of a ninja as he claimed repeatedly in his youth. He couldn't hold back the chuckle that escaped his lips as he remembered his childhood. For such a smart child, Hideki was always incredibly naive. That had changed with time, naturally, but Hideki couldn't help but think of the two versions of him, his younger counterpart had been the better shinobi.

"Sir?"

The voice snapped the scientist from his reverie. Without turning, Hideki reached out with his senses. Another trick he had picked up since joining the division. The chakra of the individual behind him belonged to one of the more promising medical officers that worked under Hideki. Oboro was one of the few that had yet to be injected with one of Hideki's random concoctions due to their own incompetence. He turned his head just enough to signify he had heard the woman.

"You asked me to look into current operations being run by the Hunt and Disposal Unit? I believe I may have found something?"

Hideki grunted. "Are you asking me or telling me?"

Oboro blushed and ducked her head. "Telling you, sir." She was met with silence. "A-ah, well, if you recall a month ago, when you were summoned to examine a body? Before you were officially the head of this unit?" Hideki kept his stern manner, though he struggled to fight down the smirk. A month ago, he hadn't even been a part of the Head Hunter Division. Now he was a Unit Leader. Perhaps there was another reason why he had the sudden desire to train again.

After a few moments passed where she received no answer, Oboro continued, "The one you performed the autopsy on was a black market tradesman but also a vital link to the rest of the nations. He sold information to the Hunt and Disposal Unit in return for… well, favors I believe. From what I have gathered he would call on the services of the Division if there was a competitor he wanted eliminated or particular shipment of goods that required extra protection."

So the Head Hunter Division had been whoring itself out for information? That was interesting. It wasn't something that Hideki would have assumed but it really wasn't too much of a stretch. It was no different to hiring standard ninja. The trader had simply paid in information and secrets rather than in money. And there was no better way to ensure he would get the best of the best if he went straight to the Head Hunter Division. It most likely made for a good deal on either end. So he had also been correct in his conclusion that the Hunt and Disposal Unit had not been responsible for his death.

Before he could continue to speculate, Oboro was talking once more. "The reason that the Hunt and Disposal Unit has been so quiet is because of the fact that they have been attempting to track down whoever was responsible for the murder. I assume it is because of the evidence of torture found in the deceased. If he was an information broker, he could have spilled his secrets before death and the disposal unit is trying to prevent a leak before any of our own secrets are revealed."

This time Hideki did allow the small upward turn at the corner of his lip. He had been right in his assigning of Oboro to the task. She was a proficient medical ninja, hence why she was in his unit, but it was her ability to go unnoticed by most that had made her perfect for this particular task. Completely turning to face his new favorite assistant, Hideki stuffed his hands into the pockets of his lab coat and gave her a once over as he thought.

The Hunt and Disposal Unit may have been performing their own investigation but it was something that had piqued Hideki's own curiosity and he intended to do a little digging himself. If he was going to pull one over on the infamous hunter ninja of Kirigakure though, he was going to have to step up his training. If he was going to train, he would need a partner. The scientist had no intention of training his taijutsu, he knew he would be forever stunted in that particular area due to his lack of physical presence. But what he could do was train an art that most ninja dismissed. The illusionary arts was a field that few could combat and training would require someone that had both excellent chakra control and a knowledge of Genjutsu.

"Tell me, Oboro, how good are your illusions?"

He only received a smile in response. Yes, Hideki believed he and Oboro would get along just fine.

Stat Training I – Genjutsu
1111/1000
He wasn't sure what stirred him from his slumber. The constant drip, drip, drip, of a loose pipe that ran overhead was certainly a possibility, but it could also have something to do with the fact that his cheek was stinging like he had been punched. Slowly lifting his head, the first thing that washed over him was the taste in his mouth. It was warm, almost silky smooth, and tasted heavily of salt and something else he couldn't quite put his finger on. He went to lift his hand to his mouth to inspect further but found he couldn't move it. He struggled a little and tried to place the sensation. It was something scratching at his wrists. Rope. And the taste in his mouth was his own blood. His brain was finally starting to kick back in and the scientist realized with a start he was bound to a chair.

Spitting the blood from his mouth, he tried to look around but found himself squinting when all he saw was an incredibly bright light. He tried his bonds again, now that he was growing more aware of his situation, but they were tight. Too tight for someone as physically weak as Hideki to break. Reigning in his growing sense of trepidation, he started doing a mental check of his bodily functions. Wriggling toes? Check. All his fingers? Check. The fact that he could taste his blood meant his tongue was still securely in his mouth, which was a good sign. His breathing was a little shallow and his heartbeat was somewhat erratic but both were manageable.

Once more, he tried to look around. This time his eyes had adjusted just enough to the light that it didn't immediately blind him. The room was actually rather… subdued. Aside from the bright light that was directly in front of him, there seemed to be no other light source. The entirety of the structure seemed to be made of the same grey cement. Well, what he could see of the structure at least. There was whatever was behind him that Hideki couldn't see, even in his peripheral vision. Whatever, or whoever, was behind him was what was causing his nerves to come alive. Hideki prided himself on his self-control and his ability to clamp down so hard on his emotions it could often seem like he didn't have any. But whatever was behind him was beginning to genuinely frighten the scientist.

There was a brief moment where all Hideki felt was… nothing. His eyes slowly trailed to his left shoulder, where a hand was holding the hilt of a kunai but the rest was hidden, buried in his skin. And then it hit. Pain. He tried to fight back the scream that tore from his throat but there was little he could do and he started to cough up blood. It was the he realized that the blood he had tasted earlier. It wasn't from a punch or blow to the face. It was his throat. He had already been screaming, apparently to the point where his throat had started bleeding. His fingers started shaking. Just how long had he been held here, tortured to the point where he was beginning to forget?

Whoever it was that was holding the kunai was talking, Hideki realized. The voice was distorted, like it was muffled behind a mask or cloth. It was asking him about the security of… of something. The village? No, it was more specific, but Hideki's mind was starting to haze. Ah, the division. He was being tortured for information on the Head Hunter Division. Wonderful. Perhaps joining that particular organization hadn't been Hideki's wisest choice if this was going to be the result. The kunai was pulled from his shoulder slowly, being twisted on its way out, before it was immediately plunged into his opposite shoulder.

Again, Hideki tried to scream but all that came out of his mouth was more blood. The questions started once more, and again Hideki didn't say anything. He couldn't. His throat was burning and he could barely scream let alone speak. Apparently his silence was starting to frustrate his torturer before whoever it was stepped around to stand in front of Hideki. The scientist looked up to try and get a good look at the face of the one who would most likely bring about his end, but could only see the silhouette because of the light.

With a sudden crack, the torturer had brought their fists into play and punched Hideki hard enough to knock his glasses off. He felt the blood start to dribble from the corner of his mouth as he watched his glasses fall to the cement floor, disrupting the water and shattering in the process. He looked back up to his torturer and almost started giggling. Whoever this person was, they had just made a very fatal mistake. They hadn't bound his hands on separate sides of the chair. No, they had bound his hands together.

Even as his fingers painfully folded into the hand seals he would need, Hideki looked up to his torturer and smirked. It was a dark, cold, and downright evil smirk that made the torturer take half a step back as if he were shocked that Hideki could still muster up such emotion.

"I'm going to cut you open, show you your insides, pull you apart piece by piece, and then heal you just enough that I can do it all over again."

His chakra surged as he finally completed the hand seal. The room swirled before it seemingly shattered. Hideki immediately shot up, scalpel in hand and had his hand around his captor's throat. It took a few moments before he realized it was Oboro standing in front of him.

"Sir? Can't breathe."

Hideki very slowly let go of the girl's neck and let out a long breath. He took a second to inspect himself and found that all of his 'injuries' had vanished, though the room and the chair remained. The bright light was also gone, replaced with a few slightly muted candles that barely kept the room lit. "How long?"

"Only five minutes sir." The bespectacled doctor clicked his tongue in annoyance; five minutes was four and a half minutes too long. "If I may ask sir, what gave it away?"

Hideki smirked but said nothing. He would allow the girl to figure it out for herself. If he revealed that the only flaw had been that he could still see perfectly fine after his glasses had been knocked off his head, then that would ruin the training session for the both of them.

Jutsu Training – Dissection
627/550
Hideki was staring across the dark room, his fingers idly twirling a scalpel. His eyes were locked with those of his lab assistant, Oboro, who was smiling gently despite the fact that her hands were running through a set of hand seals. Hideki's hand suddenly whipped up and sliced the scalpel through the air, disrupting the silence with a soft whistle. Oboro winced but kept going with the hand seals, causing the blue haired doctor to frown. He was sure he had applied the chakra correctly.

"Well?" he questioned. His voice was quiet, trying to suppress his annoyance, but in the silence it carried to the other side of the room with ease.

Oboro stopped her hand seals and shrugged, "I felt it, but it wasn't like I was cut or anything. More like a strong breeze." Realizing she had just insulted her boss's technique, the girl blushed and ducked her head. "Sorry, sir."

Said boss just clicked his tongue in annoyance and waved her off. He knew it was possible to perform the technique without hand seals, but molding the chakra in the correct way without them was proving to be… difficult. Even with his excellent chakra control. He went down the mental checklist he had developed and crossed off the idea he had just attempted, moving down to the next one. He supposed if anything was going to work, it would be this. He started twirling his scalpel again and gave Oboro a small nod. Again she started running through hand seals. It was just for show really, she wasn't channeling any chakra.

Hideki closed his eyes for a moment and began to draw on his own chakra, pooling it in his scalpel while delving into his mindscape. In the darkness that made up his mind, Hideki pictured a large pair of hands as they went through a set of hand seals. With each one, the doctor adjusted his chakra flow to match what he knew the seal to do. Rather than trying to manipulate the chakra by force, mentally picturing the hand seals gave him the timing and made adjusting the flow of his chakra just a little easier. By the time he had finished channeling chakra into the scalpel, Hideki was sure that this attempt would be successful.

Opening his eyes, he stared at his training partner and gave a slightly dark smirk as he stopped twirling the scalpel between his fingers. He could feel the chakra within, waiting to be released. The problem with illusions was that he couldn't simply let go of his control of the chakra and let the technique activate. No, he had to direct the chakra into his opponent's system so it could, essentially, infect their brainwaves. With that thought in mind, he brought up arm up and whipped it in front of him, slicing the air with the blade of his scalpel.

As he made the motion, the chakra within the blade was released and immediately sought out Oboro. While the entire process took only half a second, Hideki felt it took a lifetime as his chakra seeped into his system and went to work. There was a shadow of doubt, lingering in the back of his mind, which told him he had once again failed in his attempt to get the illusion to work without hand seals before he heard Oboro's surprised scream.

A slow smirk spread across his lips as he watched the young medical technician feel at his stomach, making sure she hadn't actually been cut so deep it would have made her intestines spill out. Again, Hideki started twirling his scalpel as he arched an eyebrow towards Oboro when she looked up at him. He would have to make it faster, this time.

Jutsu Training – Therapy
945/850
They were sitting in the privacy and relative comfort of Hideki's office, the doctor himself in his usual leather chair and Oboro sitting across from him in a more rigid metal chair. They were both leaning across the desk, staring into each other's eyes as if they were lovers. That is, it would appear that way until someone got a good look at Oboro's eyes. They were glazed over and barely twitching. Hideki had his index and middle finger of each hand on either of Oboro's temples and he was using his thumbs to keep her eyes open. The doctor's attention was currently split between maintaining the illusion he was performing, actually participating in the illusion, and reaching out with his sensory technique to monitor the chakra flow and how it affected Oboro. It was a good thing that Hideki was used to multitasking.

In The Illusion

Hideki was sitting with his legs folded one over the other, a notepad resting in his lap and glasses sitting casually on the end of his nose. It was a very different picture than he usually painted. Where he was normally sitting back straight and incredibly rigid, Hideki was relaxed and was even without his coat, his sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The most disturbing part of the illusion was the smile that he wore. It was… nice. Not evil, not cold, not planning some diabolical scheme.

Laying in a comfortable couch across from him was none other than Oboro, blinking rapidly as if trying to fight off the aftereffects of sleep. She slowly sat up and turned to face Hideki, a look of confusion but also comfort on her face. That was good. It meant that the part of the technique that affected her sense of trust was working. Whether it would hold up during the questioning, however, was another matter. Hideki grinned a little and motioned for Oboro to relax rather than sit up. Apparently the illusion was in full effect because she just nodded and laid back down, though she remained awake.

"So, Oboro, I'm just going to ask you a few questions. Feel free to answer however you wish, nothing you say will leave this room. Just know that this process works a little better if you are completely honest." He got a nod in response. "Excellent, excellent. Well, how about we start with something nice and simple. How are you feeling right now?"

"Tired? No, not tired. I guess relaxed would be a better way of describing it. Not something I've felt like in a while, to be honest."

Well, that was good. Hideki had no desire to see his assistants become complacent or relaxed. Such things led to mistakes. But, for the purpose of the illusion, it was exactly what he was looking for. "Oh? So you have been under pressure at work? What is it you do that causes such levels of stress?" It was here that his subject started to fight the effects of the illusion. It was a natural reaction of all ninja to try and avoid answering questions about their profession. Hideki watched as she opened and closed her mouth several times, as if trying to say something but then realizing that doing so would get her into trouble. "Take your time. A lot of people have a hard time discussing their work, it is perfectly normal. Just know that in most cases they tend to feel a lot better after, for want of a better word, venting."

As Oboro apparently finally got over her built in protection for her life as a ninja, Hideki split his attention between the illusion and his chakra…

The Real World

Even while the illusion was continuing, Hideki had tapped into his sensory abilities and was tracking the flow of chakra within Oboro. Her own natural flow was normal throughout most of her body, but there were the obvious traces of his own chakra that was interrupting the chakra flow throughout her brain. As he questioned her in the illusion, there were times when he would notice that the chakra flow would try to fight against the invading chakra as if on its own, mostly when he questioned about specific details. Hideki would need to increase his own chakra output on the next attempt in order to ensure that the illusion would hold against those with a stronger will.

It was disconcerting, focusing on the illusion as well as the real world. While he focused on the illusion, time in the real world seemed to be at a standstill and when he focused on the real world, the illusion was almost like it was on fast forward. Splitting his attention between the two would have been impossible in a field application of the illusion. He would have missed most of the important information. Thankfully, the way the overlay was designed to function, it would only take a few seconds in the real world in the time it took to fully interrogate whoever he was using it on.

He very carefully cut his chakra flow from Oboro's, releasing the illusion and leaning back into his chair. He hadn't learned much about his assistant, mostly due to the fact he wasn't really paying attention to her answers so much as the effects the illusion had on her chakra network. Glancing at the clock sitting on one of his shelves, he smirked when he noticed that only five seconds had passed since he had first initiated the technique. As long as he had someone to cover him, or if he were in a secure location, this technique would indeed prove to be very useful.

Jutsu Training – Puncture
604/550
Hideki took a moment to glance around the room. Three of his lab assistants were gathered around him, all staring at their superior with varying degrees of anxiety. He supposed that was fair. He had summoned them with no more than a stern look and a beckoning motion with his finger. They had no idea what kind of experiment they were about to partake it, and that didn't bode well for them as far as they knew. … In fairness, they were correct. If this test of his latest Genjutsu proved to bear fruit, then his lab assistants were in for a world of pain. After all, he could test it once and say it was a success if it worked, but he was a scientist. Once is happenstance, twice is coincidence, and three times is a pattern. Until he got a technique to work three times in a row, it wasn't a success.

Bringing his hands up to his chest, he suppressed his smile at the subtle way the trio flinched as he started to carefully make a string of hand seals. The chakra built up as he went through the set until he completed the final hand seal and let the chakra loose. His senses tracked the chakra as it left him and 'infected' the chakra flow of the trio who were staring as he made the hand seals. While he couldn't see the actual illusion, he could follow the chakra trail, so to speak, and watch for reactions. The idea behind this particular Genjutsu was simply to interrupt anyone that was looking his way. The chakra would affect the victim's brain waves and produce an illusionary clone of Hideki standing right in front of them which would stab them in the abdomen. The entire process, while requiring quite a bit of control and timing, was rather simple in actual fact.

Sure enough, within seconds, all three of his assistants were doubled over in pain and clutching at their stomach. Even Hideki, with his cool outer façade and control of his emotions, couldn't prevent the upturn of his lips as they curled into a dark smirk. One of them had even screamed just at the sight of the clone, before he had been stabbed. Hideki was rather proud of the fact that he was able to discern the difference between a squeal of shock and a cry of pain. Of course the illusion, and thus the pain, was only momentary and the three were back up and glaring at him a second later. With a subtle shrug, a gesture to tell them exactly what he thought of their ire, the doctor adjusted his glasses and raised his hands into the starting seal of his illusion once more.

The seals came quicker this time, as the illusion was designed to interrupt it would require going a little faster than he preferred. Still, he had practiced them enough when coming up with the theory behind the technique that the hand seals were flawless. This time only two screams of pain. Hideki whirled around to face the one that hadn't screamed. His eyes were clamped shut and his shoulders were hunched as if expecting pain. Interesting… So the Genjutsu really did only affect those who witnessed the hand seals. Of course, he knew that it would, but it was nice to see the physical evidence. He extended his hand and slowly dragged the young man's face up by the chin with his index finger, until they were staring eye to eye.

A slow, evil smirk spread across Hideki's lips once more. "Third time's the charm."

Jutsu Training – Reflect
571/550
The Barrier style of Ninjutsu was something that had interested Hideki as a Chuunin, before he had dedicated all of his attention to his research. Now that he had more free time on his hands, given he had more than just himself to work on his experiments, Hideki figured that now would be as good a time as any to touch base with his old skillset. Slipping into an abandoned training hall, the doctor withdrew two scrolls from his coat. The first was the one filled with Barrier techniques, the one he would be studying and learning from. The second was fitted with a sealing scroll and the doctor put it on the floor at one end of the hallway.

Releasing the seal, he allowed the smoke a moment to dissipate before he smiled at his invention. It was a crossbow mounted on a swivel, a turret in essence, which was fit with a self-feeding 'clip' of 30 kunai. All he needed to do to activate it was apply a small burst of chakra with the Kai technique. More chakra meant a stronger shot. Short of finding someone else to actually help him with his training, which wasn't something Hideki was looking forward to, this was the best he could do in order to test his barriers as he created them.

With that setup, he flicked open the scroll of techniques and started to read. He skipped a few at the start, knowing he already had them down pat, until he came to one of the most basic yet useful of the barrier techniques. The Reflect technique created a flat surface between his hands and would extend it into a shield that could defend frontal attacks, even reversing them back towards the attack. The hand seals were simple enough and ended with the seal for Monkey. He supposed that made sense, given the fashion in which he would have to move his hands to create the wall of chakra.

Committing the sequence to memory, the scientist finished reading over the basics of the technique before deciding it was time to try. Putting his hands together, his fingers began to run through the shapes that would guide his chakra to form the technique. Ending with his hands together, fingers touching the opposite wrist and palms pressed against each other, he turned his hands into a vertical position and began to pull them apart. As he did so, the chakra began to flood the space left by his hands separating and formulated into a bright blue rectangle of chakra. The further his arms spread apart, the bigger the barrier got, until he could no longer spread his arms.

The barrier continued to grow until it had extended a couple feet in every direction and the doctor gave it a once over before nodding to himself. Flicking the wall, it seemed to hum with energy and almost zapped his finger when he hit it. Good, it was solid at least. Bringing his hands together in a single seal, he focused his chakra into the turret and triggered the launching mechanism. With a resounding twang, a kunai was sent flying from the device and directly into his shield. The blade hit the wall and bounced off. He repeated this a few times to ensure the wall was indeed as strong as it should be before nodding to himself.

… Well, that was the first technique down. What was next on the list?

Jutsu Training – Throwback
929/850
Deciding to stick to his current pattern of techniques rather than just learning a bunch of techniques of the same rank, Hideki scanned through his scroll until he had passed all the listed C-Rank Barriers and had entered the territory of the B-Ranks. It was the second technique listed that he was looking for. The extended line of Wall style Barriers that could reflect an attack back towards his attacker. While Reflect only sent the original attack back slightly weaker than when it had hit the barrier, the B-Ranked Throwback was far superior. Not only did the barrier survive the reflection, it also essentially 'infected' the technique it reflected with Hideki's own chakra. It basically took whatever technique that hit it and turned it into a technique of Hideki's own. Given his supreme control over his chakra, he could take a weaker technique used against him and turn it into a far superior version to destroy the original owner with.

The very thought of such a situation had the doctor smirking. It was just another way to prove his superiority over those who dare to oppose his genius.

Hideki began to read the scroll, having gotten over his temporary bout of 'mad scientist'. The hand seal sequence was longer than what was needed for Reflect, but that was to be expected. Perhaps, at full speed, it would only take an additional few seconds but the extra seals were what allowed him to take control over whatever hit the shield, so a few extra seconds were worth it in the doctor's eyes. Again, the sequence would have to end in the monkey seal in order for his hands to be in the proper position to shape the barrier. This version of the wall-like barrier was also a lot larger than any of its precursors, which led to the belief that it was more useful for turning back wide-scale attacks than a precision strike.

Putting his hands together in the starting seal of the sequence, he set to work going through the specific motions that allowed one hand seal to flow seamlessly into the next. While he had faith that he could attempt and succeed with a C-Rank version of the technique, he wanted to give himself time to acclimate to the process before he attempted its B-Rank version. While he understood that learning was a process of repeated failures until one understood the process to succeed, he didn't particularly want to fail more than once or twice. He had better things to do with his time than repeat the same task over and over again simply because he failed to prepare himself beforehand.

Nodding to himself when he felt he was as prepared as he could be without actually attempting the technique, Hideki tapped into his chakra and began the sealing sequence once more. This time, with each hand seal that passed, he paid attention to his chakra as it adjusted its flow to correspond with the hand seals. With each seal, he felt his chakra gather and flow faster towards his hands until he finally ended on the monkey seal and the chakra sat at his fingertips, waiting to be released into the barrier. Slowly, he pulled his hands apart and began to spread his arms, the chakra flowing from his finger tips and into the empty space left behind.

Soon the empty space was no more and a brilliant blue wall was covering the area in front of him. It continued to expand until it was wall-to-wall in length and had just as much width. He carefully pressed his hand up against the glowing barrier and felt the familiar hum of energy that he associated with his chakra. Taking a step back, he looked through the barrier to the other end of the room. Where once stood his turret was now just a plinth with an open scroll laying atop it. Knowing he would be practicing this technique at some point in his training, he had taken the liberty of 'confiscating' one of his assistant's projects.

It was a simple concept and most likely already in use by quite a few other shinobi around the world, but the basic idea was sealing a jutsu into a scroll. All someone had to do was funnel enough chakra into the seal to release whatever technique had been sealed and presto; instant Ninjutsu. In this case, what was sealed within the scroll was a basic wind technique that lacked any cutting potential so as to not risk destroying the room during the testing phase.

Bringing his hands together in the seal for Kai, he focused a dollop of chakra into the sealing scroll on the other side of the room and released the Fuuton Ninjutsu from within. The rushing wind was forced out immediately, rushing across the room and straight towards his barrier. Hideki swapped his focus from the wind technique to the barrier. A moment passed where nothing seemed to happen and then the compressed ball of wind smashed against the glowing wall. He felt the chakra from the barrier reached out and seep through the ball of wind, passed the control over to Hideki, before reflecting the wind ball right back at the scroll it had come from.

Applying a bit of his own chakra control to the wind attack, he watched it grow faster for a moment before he forced it to fizzle out before it could hit and potentially destroy the sealing scroll. A smirk overcame Hideki's lips.

Oh yes, he could have fun with this technique.

Jutsu Training – Consume
1265/1200
Hideki was starting to remember why he found the Barrier style of Ninjutsu so interesting back when he was a teenager. It was a fascinating study in the manipulation of pure chakra. There was no element transformation involved, something that most ninja considered was what made techniques worth learning. It was pure shape manipulation. Taking the normally intangible chakra and condensing it, solidifying it, until it could withstand the pressure of even the most powerful elemental techniques. It was something that Hideki personally found incredible. Many people thought of chakra as an amazing source of power but other than that didn't really question it much. To someone like Hideki, who had studied and understood the nature of chakra and how to manipulate it, Barriers were such a more refined art than any elemental technique.

And this next barrier would only serve to prove their superiority to elemental techniques.

It was the A-Rank in the series of Wall barriers. The only thing stronger was the ultimate S-Rank version, and even if Hideki didn't doubt he had the control necessary for such a technique, he doubted he would have the chakra reserves left to try it after perfecting this technique. But this technique was a powerful one, powerful enough to prove that it could dominate pretty much any technique thrown at it. Consume was a barrier that literally folded in on itself when it intercepted an attack, given that the attack didn't immediate destroy the barrier. Once it was folded over, the barrier and thus the technique sealed within its confines were completely under Hideki's control.

The complete domination of a weaker technique.

He would need a stronger technique than a basic ball of wind to test this technique. So he replaced the sealing scroll that he had used in his prior experiments with barriers with a new one. Sealed within was a rather nasty Katon Ninjutsu that, when it was released, would take the form of a giant fireball big enough to engulf the room he was currently training in. If he was a lesser individual, he probably would have swallowed rather hard at this point. Hideki was not a lesser individual.

Retreating back to his end of the training hall, the doctor opened up the scroll until he had a complete view of the technique's instructions. This one, unlike the previous two techniques, came complete with diagrams and warnings. If you didn't have enough control or if the barrier was destroyed before it could completely consume the technique it was intercepting, there was a good chance it would blow up in the user's face. In this case, Hideki's. That was a result he intended to avoid at all costs. It wouldn't do to have to heal his own face.

Once the warnings were out of the way, it went into the details of the hand seal sequence and the initial part of the jutsu. The formation of the barrier was identical to the last two versions he had been practicing with, just a little longer in the hand seal sequence though that was to be expected. It was what came after that would prove to be the most fascinating. The wall, once it had been hit, would segment and fold in on itself, compressing both the barrier and the jutsu until it was one cubed foot in size. Once that occurred, Hideki would need to take direct control of the cube and could move it into whatever position he desired. Once he found the optimal spot, he could release whatever technique was sealed within as if it were a jutsu of his own creation, completely under the influence of his chakra and therefore his chakra control.

This was the point where the warnings came into play. The barrier could still be attacked and destroyed in this state, effectively destroying whatever technique was sealed within and causing the entire construct to explode. The same thing would happen if he tried to use any other kind of technique that required the manipulation of his chakra. Thankfully, with his level of chakra control, he should be able to move the barrier fast enough to position it before it got destroyed or to evade an oncoming attack.

Well, now that he had gone over the theory, there was only one thing left to do. Raveling up the scroll and tucking it away into an inner pocket, the doctor took a moment to focus himself before he started the hand seal sequence. The sequence was the same as the B-Rank version of the technique, though with a couple extra seals added to the end just before the Monkey. Once his hands were horizontally together, his fingertips resting against the wrist of the opposite hand, he twisted his hands vertical and pulled them apart, letting his chakra flow from his fingertips and condensing the energy into a flat screen. Theoretically this barrier could grow to 30 feet in every direction, though the room was not that big and the barrier was forced to cease when it hit the walls, floor and ceiling.

Once the glowing blue barrier had solidified, Hideki gave it a cursory flick like he did with all his other barriers on their initial creation. It hummed in response and Hideki almost smiled. Almost. The barrier seemed stable so the next step of the procedure was to attack the thing. Bringing his hands into the seal to activate the scroll, he released the fireball that was sealed within and physically braced himself; just in case. The raging inferno appeared seemingly out of nowhere, the size of the technique combined with the small size of the room inadvertently incinerated the scroll it had come from and the wooden plinth said scroll rested on. The fire raged across the room, battling with his barrier, trying to get through and turn Hideki into a pile of smoldering flesh.

Thankfully, the barrier held and began folding in on itself, compressing the fireball along with it. It was actually quite fascinating to watch, the giant blue wall being turned into a massive cube before shrinking. The second it was as small as it could go, Hideki felt his chakra reach out and latch onto the cube now floating in the air in front of him. Taking over the reins, so to speak, Hideki took the cube on a test run around the room. Soon enough the cube was whizzing laps around the edge of the room faster than Hideki could even run. Deciding it was time to test the release mechanism, he moved to the door and opened it, stepping into the threshold, while keeping the floating cube at the other end of the room.

Raising his hands into a single hand seal, the same he had used to trigger the scroll earlier, Hideki watched the barrier crumble and the fireball was released. Released and aimed directly at Hideki. The fireball took off like a shot, using Hideki's own chakra control to increase its speed rather than its original creators. Quickly ducking out of the room, the doctor slammed the door shut behind him and quickly erected a smaller version of the Wall technique in front of the door. Just in case, of course.

After a few minutes and no melted door, Hideki released the barrier and went to open the door. He hissed when he burnt his hand on the handle and opened the door as quickly as he could. The room was covered in scorch marks, though thankfully the fire had extinguished. Well, he supposed this technique could be considered a success.

Jutsu Training – Prison
866/850
Now that he had effectively ruined his training room, at least for a few hours while the heat settled, Hideki figured it would be a good idea to go back to testing barriers that could be evaluated by how well they deflected Kunai. While this could be done in just about any room he wanted, the doctor decided on retreating to his office for this final technique training. There was a large enough open space in the middle of the room that he could create the necessary barrier and set up his kunai launcher without having to move too much of his stuff. And afterwards, he could retire to his quarters and take a well-earned nap.

Once the device was set up, just slightly left of his desk, Hideki made the executive decision that this technique could be practiced from the comfort of his leather backed office chair. Dropping almost boneless-ly into the chair, he let out a sigh of relief as he relaxed his muscles. He had used a lot of chakra training today but it had been worth it. One more technique and he could say he had 'trained' more today than he had in years. Sure, he had studied new medical techniques or poisons but he hadn't really trained in the ninja arts.

It was a surprisingly good feeling that settled in the pit of his gut, despite the exhaustion he was currently feeling. Since joining the Head Hunter Division, there was always a subtle worry that he would be called out on a mission that required skills he did not have. Combat skills. This was one way of making sure he could at least defend himself on a mission.

Plucking the training scroll from his lab coat, Hideki opened it up to the final technique he wanted to study today. Unlike the Wall line he had been practicing earlier, this one was part of a series that started with Jail. It created a cube-shaped barrier around a designated target, which was why he had decided he could sit down for this one. He only needed to make the hand seals and point out where the barrier should form, he wouldn’t have to spread his arms wide nor take control of the barrier after it had been formed.

Going over the seal sequence in the scroll, he muttered each hand seal's name as he made them. Chalk it up to exhaustion that he was talking to himself rather than having his usual internal monologue going. Unlike the Wall series, the Jail series of barriers didn't require the hand seal sequence to end in the monkey. It would be nice to have a change of pace. Reading further through the scroll, all the while repeating the hand seal sequence to develop some level of muscle memory, he studied the technique further in depth. Theoretically, the technique could be used over a distance of 60 feet. While that could come in useful at a later date, Hideki would only be making this one about 15 feet away from what was going to be shooting at it.

Once he felt comfortable with the seal sequence and having finished reading the technique description and instructions for use, Hideki tucked the scroll away in his desk drawer rather than back into his coat, and closed his eyes for a moment. It took a little bit for him to focus completely on his chakra and the jutsu, having to overcome his exhaustion first, but once he did his eyes snapped open and his fingers started to run through the seals he would need.

His chakra reacted to each seal, forming into the shape he would need it to take, before he reached the final seal in the set and his chakra was released into the open air. One moment, there was nothing, the next, a blue glowing cube appeared at the other end of his office, just beside the door that led out into the hallways. Hideki had to blink a few times and recheck his memory to make sure he hadn't passed out for a second while it had formed. He knew it would be fast but that was near instantaneous. He should have expected it, really, given how fast the lower ranking versions formed. He supposed that he expected a higher ranking technique to take a little longer to form.

With a shrug and a muffled sigh, Hideki brought his fingers together and focused his chakra into the kunai launcher that was sitting beside his desk. The energy triggered the firing mechanism of the device with more force that Hideki could have ever managed to conjure up in order to throw a weapon. In a flash, the kunai sailed through the air and smashed against the glowing blue barrier. A slight crack formed where the point had met solid chakra, but there was no breaking nor real deformation of the shield. It held true.

It was nice to know that even near exhaustion Hideki's chakra control was still one of his better abilities as a ninja. Well, he considered that technique a success and decided it was time to rest. He never made it to his quarters.

Jutsu Training – Massage Technique
520/400
"This is ridiculous."

"Please sir, I don't want to have to go all the way to the infirmary when there is a perfectly capable doctor right here."

"Utterly ridiculous."

He had no idea how one of his researchers had managed to pull a muscle, but here Oboro sat, staring at him as impassively as he was staring at her; despite the probable pain she was in. Hideki had to give her props for being able to maintain the emotionless façade. But that didn't mean he was about to just give in and heal her. It was her own damn fault really for poor posture whilst reading for hours.

It didn't matter than Hideki was the one that had assigned the research assignment and demanded it be done within six hours.

Not at all.

… Damn it.

With a sigh, Hideki knelt down besides the woman and started flooding chakra into his hands in preparation for one of the most annoying medical techniques he had ever learnt. Yes, it was useful, but it involved extended physical contact with another human being. Another sigh later and Hideki gently pressed his hands against Oboro's exposed lower back. His fingers gently traced the muscles that he could visualize in his mind's eye underneath the skin. His fingers kept moving, gently tracing and kneading as he searched for the knotted muscle he needed to work out for the woman.

Ah, there it was.

Pushing his thumbs a little more firmly into the muscle, his chakra began flooding from his fingertips and seeping through Oboro's skin and into the knotted muscle, helping to loosen it and adjust the pressure of his massage to achieve maximum effectiveness. Hideki could almost watch in his mind's eye as the knot relaxed and released the buildup of tension that had caused the original pain. Once the first clump of tense muscles had been relaxed on one side of her spine, the doctor gently moved his hands to the other side and began to work.

It was pathetically easy to manipulate his chakra flow to regulate how much pressure he was applying during the massage, given he had no desire to physically exert himself any more than absolutely necessary. It was a good thing he could use chakra for such a technique, otherwise he would have been more than happy to send Oboro to the infirmary without any kind of prior treatment.

Relaxing the chakra flow as he felt the muscle relax underneath his hands, Hideki stood up and motioned for Oboro to leave now that her strained muscles were fine again. When she didn't move, the doctor glanced around to the front of the backless chair and found that the woman had fallen asleep sitting up. With a final sigh and a shake of his head, he adjusted the chair so it was leaning against the wall and left the small office that belonged to the woman.

She was going to be so sore when she woke up. It would have been hilarious if it didn't result in his having to perform the same technique again later.

What a pain.

Jutsu Training – Seal Sight
440/400
Hideki found himself once again seated in his office, his desk cleared of any papers that had nothing to do with his current project. There were a few experiments he currently had in the planning stage that would require some serious skill in the sealing arts, and the scientist didn't trust anyone else to handle the procedures to his high standards. Which meant he was once again returning to studies he had put aside for other experiments back in the day.

Dropping two scrolls onto his desk, he unrivalled them both at the same time and set about getting his ink pot and brush ready. The first technique didn't require the use of actually drawing out a seal, but it was better to just have them ready.

The process of the first technique was a simple enough concept and would prove to be useful in his later studies. The theory was, by channeling chakra through a seal that he was touching but without the intent of activating the seal, he would be able to determine the complexity behind the seal and thus what kind of unsealing technique he would need to use to break it. The technique was called Seal Sight despite the fact that it was actually a touch based technique.

And so he turned his attention to the first scroll he had unraveled, the one filled with pre-made seals that had a short description underneath of what each seal actually did, and pressed his hand to the first seal in the list. His other hand shifted into a single hand seal that would allow him to channel his chakra directly into the seal and start the process of determining how complex it was. He had avoided looking at the description of the seal, simply so he could cross-reference his own findings after he had performed the technique.

As his chakra filtered down into the seal, moving through it, measuring how strong it was, Hideki closed his eyes to focus on the information that was being filtered back to him. He had no idea what the seal actually did but he could tell it wasn't particularly complicated. In theory at least. He knew that at the present moment he couldn’t write out a seal like this, at least not off the top of his head. So that led him to the belief that the seal was most likely a C-Rank.

Moving his hand away from the seal and ceasing the flow of chakra, Hideki looked down to the description of the seal and smirked. The seal was part of a pair and was indeed classified as a C-Rank technique.

A Study in Blood – Part 1
Hideki let out a sigh as he stepped through the entrance to the building he thought he would never have to enter again. The entire point of working with the Head Hunter Department was to access better research funds and thus avoid working for the hospital. But no, they were still insisting on their once a month inspection of his medical skills to ensure he was worthy of retaining his medical license. Sometimes, particularly days like today, the doctor simply would have preferred to practice medicine unlicensed than go through all these pointless procedures but without the license he wouldn't be able to obtain funds… ugh. It was all ridiculously annoying.

He just glared at the receptionist when he finally stopped at the front desk, saying nothing. It was something of a ritual between the two. The elderly woman thought it was cute and would giggle at him, which in turn made Hideki frown even more and so the process would continue until finally she just gave him the files for his patients. With an arch of his eyebrow and a short nod, Hideki tucked the files under his arm and swooped past the desk and into the hospital proper. The incessant giggling followed him all the way up to the next floor.

When he was finally in the safety of a spare office he often used when he visited the hospital, Hideki dumped the files on the blank table and pulled up a chair that looked like it was ready to be thrown out ten years ago. Plopping down in it without a care in the world, the researcher grabbed the first file and started flicking through it. About half way in, he chucked it to one side and grabbed the next file. This process repeated until there were only one file left in the original stack. Flipping it open, his left eyebrow arched at what he was reading.

Apparently there was an interesting case to he found.

Tucking the file under his arm, he grabbed the rest of the stack and dumped them on the counter for this floor's nurse's station, ignoring the incredulous cries of the nurses as he did so. He took the stairs two at a time until he had gone up another two floors and found the room he was looking for. Releasing the Fuuinjutsu that kept the door sealed, Hideki stepped through and paused. He knew what he was walking into, he had read the file after all, but seeing was believing.

The little girl was sitting cross legged on the bed provided, giggling and playing with a toy doll that one of the nurse's probably procured for her. Hideki glanced back down at the file and then up at the girl and a smirk slowly spread across his face. Yes, this was his kind of case indeed.

"Miss Sera?"

The girl looked up from her playtime and her bright smile faded at the sight of Hideki. A mental chuckle echoed in his mind. 'Still got it, I see.' The young girl, Sera, pressed herself backwards until she was curled up in a ball against the headboard. Hideki approached the foot of the bed, tossing his file on the open space and picking up the chart that was hanging off the end all without saying another word. Once he had corroborated the file with the chart and saw no glaring differences, Hideki tucked his hands into his pockets and looked over the top of his glasses at the girl.

"You appear to be in perfect health, Miss Sera. Why are you in isolation, I wonder?"

The girl shook her head, retaining her frown and refusal to speak.

"Tell me, Miss Sera, are you afraid of what I am going to do to you?" A shake of her head. "Are you afraid of what you could do to me?" This time a shaky nod.

Fascinating.

"And what is it that you think a little girl like you could do to me?"

"I- I c-could hurt y-you, mister. K-kill you even a-and I c-couldn't stop it."

Oh yes, definitely his kind of case. "And what makes you think that?"

It appeared she had already said more than she intended, because the girl froze up and just started to shake her head again. Of course, Hideki already knew why she thought that. It was included in her file. By all appearances she was perfectly healthy, however, she had already almost killed the nurse who had tried to take her blood when the girl had first been admitted.

"I'm going to scan you, Miss Sera. Nothing physically invasive, it is what is known as a Medical Ninjutsu, or Iijutsu. Understand? No blood."

This was the part of the case that he wasn't looking forward to. Dealing with a child. Of course the girl would be difficult, even when he assured her he would not be taking any blood. She was shaking her head and crawling into an even tighter ball. The Medical Diagnosis technique was easiest to use when the patient was lying flat but ultimately he had enough skill with it that he could use it despite the patient's unwillingness to cooperate.

Flicking through the hand seals for the technique, he stepped up beside the girl and pushed one hand passed her folded arms and rested it atop her chest, over her heart, and placed his other hand in the same position just on her back. The chakra funneled from his hands and into her system, feeling out for whatever abnormality was causing the girl to become a potentially lethal biological weapon.

It took a little bit of effort to work his way through the muscular system and organs, given the fact he was trying to steady the struggling girl, but once he finally got down to the cellular level and in particular the blood cells, he found what he was looking for.

The girl herself may be perfectly fine but her blood carried within in a pathogen. It seemed dormant whilst in her body but, if he was assumed correctly given the information from her file, the second her blood was directly exposed to oxygen the pathogen activated. It would transfer to whoever else was close enough to be exposed to whatever kind of pathogen was in the girl's blood and, because they didn't have Sera's antibodies, would contract the disease the pathogen carried.

Something like this was incredible.

If only he could find a way to harness it.

And then his scan picked up something he hadn't been expecting to find. The pathogen had certain… markers. Hideki couldn't make them out precisely, the Ninjutsu wasn't refined enough for that, but what he could tell was that they weren't natural.

They were artificial.

The pathogen was artificial.

Someone had made this! Someone that wasn't Hideki!

"Tell me girl, who did this to you?" She shook her head. Hideki took his hands from her chest and back, only to replace them on her shoulders and gave the girl a quick shake. "You will tell me. You will tell me or I will dissect you myself and then when I am done I will feed you to my lab rats."

The girl stopped shaking and looked up at Hideki. Soft green eyes stared into his own pale blue for a good long minute before it started. At first it was quiet, so quiet that Hideki almost missed it. And then she started shaking. Oh gods, if she started crying, Hideki would sedate her then and there. But it wasn't tears that escaped the girl. It was laughter.

She found his threat amusing!?

With a twitching eyebrow, Hideki growled under his breath, "Pray tell, what is so funny?"

"Y-you, mister! Your g-glasses are all f-funny!"

What?

Letting go of the girl, Hideki took a step back and crossed the room and entered the attached bathroom. One of the privileges that people in isolation got. When he looked at himself in the mirror, he saw what had made the girl laugh. In his attempt to shake the information out of her, his glasses had fallen askew, making him look utterly ridiculous.

He sighed and adjusted them back into their normal spot. Well, he had made a fool of himself but at least it got the girl talking. Walking back out into the room, he adopted a neutral look and sat down on the foot of the bed.

"Will you please tell me who did this to you, Miss Sera?"

She had settled down now, and relaxed enough to be sitting normally against the headboard. She opened her mouth, as if to begin speaking, but hesitated and closed it again. Hideki waited patiently until finally she finished whatever internal debate she was having with herself and nodded.

"Okay mister. B-but, you never told me your name."

Hideki gave a small smile, mostly forced. "I'm Hideki."

A Study in Blood – Part 2
Hideki was sitting at the foot of the hospital bed, his white coat flared out behind him and a file sitting open on his lap, glancing between the file and the young girl who was taking up maybe a third of the bed in total. She was telling him a story, something that was most likely misconstrued because of the child's perceptive, but at least he didn't have to sort falsehoods from truths; everything the girl said she genuinely believed to be the truth. It was a little refreshing to not have to look for double and triple meanings when partaking in a conversation.

"So after I got sick-" He had tuned out the first part of the story. Something about a flu hitting her village on one of the outer islands in Water Country. "mummy took me to see the doctor…" There was a slight pause and ruffling of sheets, drawing Hideki's attention from the chart Sera. She was leaning right next to his face and if not for years of practice controlling his reflexes, he would have jumped backwards at the sudden closeness. "This is a secret for you and me, k? He smelt funny. And he was weird. There were like alien thingies in jars on the walls."

The doctor arched an eyebrow, ignoring the fact that Sera's breath didn't exactly smell like roses either. "Is that a fact, Miss Sera?"

"Mhmm!"

"Fascinating. Do you remember this weird doctor's name?"

"Hideki!" The girl fell backwards from right beside his face, giggling like mad at her own joke.

Hideki simply arched his eyebrow even higher and looked over his top rim of his glasses, giving Sera the same look he gave one of his assistant's whenever they did something stupid. It didn't take long for the girl to quiet down and mutter an apology.

"I think mummy said his name was Yamato," Sera murmured, her amusement quelled.

Doctor Yamato? He had never heard of anyone by that name practicing within the village. So most likely he wasn't a medical ninja but a traditional doctor. But that begged the question, how did he engineer such a potent pathogen without medical Ninjutsu? And why use it on a child? …Unless the girl was just a test subject. Hideki had done similar things in the past, in the times before the HHD. Find someone ill in the slums and offer them medical care, only to subtly test some new drug on them.

"Tell me, Miss Sera," Hideki started, "were there any other children that went to see Doctor Yamato?" Sera nodded. Apparently Hideki had scared her back into silence. Wonderful. "How many?" She held up her hands, showing all her fingers bar her left thumb.

Nine other children. Ten in total. Whoever this man was…

He was a genius.

Why had Hideki never thought of taking his experiments to the smaller outlying villages? It would be so much easier to get his hands on test subjects out there than in a ninja village.

"And did they all end up like you? Did they make other people around them sick?" The girl shrugged. Did she not know or was she unwilling to talk anymore? "You don't know?" A nod. Damn.

He reached up and massaged his forehead, considering the possible ramifications of this. Yes, he admired this mystery doctor's work ethic. It was on a level close to Hideki's own. But Hideki, for all that he lacked in a moral compass, was loyal to his village. There was no way in hell he was about to allow some rival doctor do any kind of damage to it.

Turning to the little girl, Hideki gave her a quick nod and adjusted his glasses. "Miss Sera, I have all the information I need for the moment. You wait here and I'll be back in a few days."

"U-uhm, mister Hideki…"

"Hmmm?"

"Are you going to make me better?"

The doctor smirked and tucked one hand into his pocket, the other pushing his glasses up his nose and reflecting the light off them. "Indeed I am, Miss Sera. Indeed I am."

The Medical Journal of Hirohito Hideki

With a heavy thump, a black bag fell to the ground and was quickly followed by a long white coat which gave a sound almost as loud when it landed. Bare feet slapped against cold stone, the sound echoing in the eerily silent space. There was the sound of a rush of wind and a sharp crack before a flame lit up the darkness, growing steadily until it filled the dark room with its glowing yellow warmth. The blue haired figure of Hideki dropped into a leather backed chair in front of the hearth and he let out a long sigh. He had missed this chair. He had missed his apartment in general, even before he had left for his trip. The facilities of the Head Hunter Division were amazing so he spent most of his time down there, but there was something about his apartment that just felt like home.

Speaking of his trip, for the last two months he had been wandering from island to island within the confines of Water Country, looking in on the local medical facilities and providing assistance to the doctors and healers that weren't trained in Iijutsu where it was necessary. He missed one meeting to make sure he was still keeping his medical skills up to snuff at the hospital and this was the 'retraining' that was required of him. Medical Ninja, there were none more ruthless or made of pure evil. Maybe that was why he was one of them…

In any case, it was good to be home. He leant his head back and closed his eyes, soaking in the warmth of the crackling fire that was drowning out the sound of the heavy rain and harsh winds outside. Musing over the last several weeks, he realized he has basically left his department unattended. There were those who would have kept the day-to-day operations running as usual but nothing new would have been attempted in his absence. Two months of stagnancy. The thought was repulsive. His eyes opened a sliver and his head lolled slightly to the side. He caught a glint out of the corner of his eye, a flash of gold reflecting the firelight. Last he checked, he didn't have anything gold in color in his home.

Which meant someone had been in here while he had been gone. He could think of only two people that would break in only to leave something. One was Shiv, but more likely he would have simply had a messenger deliver whatever it was directly to him. The other option was…

'… I'll deal with it in the morning.'
Three sharp raps of his knuckles against the wooden door was all that was needed. Hideki had to wait about three seconds before the door slid open, revealing a middle-aged woman. She was wearing her dark blue hair in a bun, held in place with bright red sticks, and over her plain black dress was a light blue apron.

"Oh, it's you."

Hideki arched an eyebrow at the greeting. "Good morning to you as well, Mother."

Hirohito Sachiko, Hideki's mother, sighed and stepped aside. "Well, I suppose you'd better come in. I'm just about to finish cooking breakfast."

Bowing his head slightly, Hideki stepped through the threshold. He slipped out of his sandals, turning them to face the door, and slipped on the same pair of slippers he had worn for the last five years whenever visiting home. He remembered the last time he had forgotten to leave his shoes in the genkan. His mother had damn near taken his head off. That was when he was ten years old. To this day he was still terrified of not obeying his mother's house rules, not that he outwardly expressed it anymore.

Following behind his mother, the pair walked in complete silence until they reached the joined kitchen and dining room. Hideki took a seat at the farthest end of the table, the seat opposite where the head of the household would usually sit, and got an odd look from his mother in response. He simply stared back until she huffed and turned her back on him, going back to the stove where fish was being grilled.

"You got my message then?" she questioned without turning away from her fish.

"Why else would I be here?"

Sachiko barked out a laugh. Hideki removed the scroll from his pocket, complete with golden seal keeping it closed, and threw it towards his mother's turned back. Without even turning around, she lifted her left arm behind her and caught it effortlessly.

"You didn’t open it?"

"I knew it was from you, and you know very well that I am incapable of breaking your personal Fuuinjutsu."

Whenever his mother sent him a scroll, she always used her own brand of sealing techniques to 'keep the message from being intercepted'. Hideki was well aware that it was her own personal test to see if he had started studying the sealing arts yet. Despite the fact that he had, he had absolutely no intention of letting his mother know that. She had been trying to get him to learn her Fuuinjutsu since he was nine, and he wasn't about to give her the satisfaction of letting her know that he actually thought that Fuuinjutsu was actually useful now that he was older.

"You truly are a disappointment of a son. Miyuki would have broken it without a missing a beat."

Ah. Her. "Yes Mother, I am well aware of your disappointment in me. Speaking of Miyuki-"

There was a sudden bang from the hallway leading to the kitchen and Hideki bowed his head with a sigh. Speak of the devil and the devil shall appear. There was a rush of footsteps, followed by his mother's shout of "No running in the house!", before he felt the impact of a small missile in his side.

"Big brother!"

Hideki gently let go of the table where he had been hanging on for dear life and relaxed his tensed muscles. The doctor slowly turned his head and stared down at the mess of black hair currently digging into his side. Lifting his hand, he pat the nest a few times until finally it moved and he was greeted by a blinding smile.

"Miyuki, what have I told you about restraining yourself?"

The two siblings turned to stare at their mother, who was holding a fish flip in one hand and two plates of steaming fish and rice in the other, glaring daggers at the pair of them. Hideki simply gave her the same blank look he gave everyone and Miyuki continued to grin like it was Christmas come early. Miyuki had been born when Hideki was thirteen, after Hideki had already left home and was making his own way. He visited once or twice every few months when she was younger and slowly those turned into once or twice a year and then became once every couple of years. So he didn't grow up with her and, truth be told, had barely any bond with her. But for some strange reason she still treated him like he was the greatest older brother in the world. It baffled the normally unflappable Hideki.

"But mother, it's big brother. I haven't seen him in forever!"

"I'm well aware of who it is, child. That is no reason to forget your composure. Honestly." With a shake of her head, she placed one of the plates on the table in front of Hideki and the other at the chair just around from his own. "Eat, foolish daughter. You have to get to the Academy soon."

That was… strange. For as long as he could remember, his mother had always served his father first and he would be forced to wait until the old man was sitting at the table before he would get any food. So either he was away on a mission or…

"So, big brother, did you bring me anything?"

Hideki tore his thoughts away from his father's absence and focused his attention on the ten year old. "What makes you think I would bring you anything, Miyuki?" he questioned with a stare over his glasses. The little girl stared right back with an angry pout. The siblings continued to stare, Hideki blankly and Miyuki angrily, until finally Hideki sighed and reached into his pocket. "Here. Spoiled brat."

He dropped a white stone into her outstretched hand and turned to his food. Miyuki finally let go of Hideki's side and took her own seat at the table, eating her fish one handed and turning the stone over and over in her other. "What is it?"

"Have you learnt how to channel chakra externally?" the look he received was the same one his mother gave him whenever he said something stupid as a child. It almost sent shivers down his spine. Almost. "Go on then."

With seemingly effortless ability, Miyuki did as her brother instructed and channeled chakra into the stone. Hideki didn't even need to use his sensory ability to know how easily it flowed. She was a truly gifted child. The white stone turned clear for a moment before it started to glow, giving off a range of different colors which caused Miyuki to gasp in delight. "It's so pretty."

"Stop playing with your bauble and finish your breakfast, Miyuki."

Again his mother was standing at the table, although this time she was carrying a tray with nothing but a bowl of what smelled like some kind of soup. So, his father wasn't out on a mission then. Only one other thing would keep that stubborn old fool from attending to his duties as head of the household.

"How long?"

Sachiko stared for a solid ten seconds before letting out a slow, barely audible sigh. "About six months now. He has maybe another month or two left."

Hideki slowly nodded and turned back to his food, simply staring at it while his mother disappeared down the hallway. Even Miyuki had gone silent, poking at her food rather than eating it. He had always expected to feel some kind of… perverse sense of victory when this day came. But right now all he felt was… nothing. He should feel something, right? After all…

His father was dying…

Jutsu Training – Delicate Hands
584/400
The light overhead flickered, causing Hideki to stop what he was doing for a moment and glance up with a slight frown. The last thing he needed to happen while he was in the middle of an autopsy was for the lights to give out on him. When it appeared that the light was in fact stable, the doctor shook his head and focused on the fact that he was holding an organ in his hand. If his old mentor had been here, she would have berated him for losing focus at such a time. The handling of organs required a delicate touch, after all.
"Hirohito! Pay attention, for goodness' sake! This is a delicate procedure!"

The fourteen year old medical student drew his eyes away from the flickering light overhead and nodded solemnly. "I'm sorry, Chiyeko-sensei."

Tsumemasa Chiyeko was a woman in her early forties but had the hair and wrinkles of a woman in her fifties. A side effect of being one of the lead medical ninja in Kirigakure. She clicked her tongue in annoyance at Hideki and directed his attention to the opened up cadaver in front of them. "Pay close attention here, Hirohito. The way in which you handle organs once they have been removed can determine whether the entire thing was a success or failure. While it doesn't require chakra it is still a vital technique to master. You have your gloves on?"

"Of course, sensei."

"Then get in there."

With a nod and only a moment's hesitation, Hideki dug his hand into the opened up midsection of the cadaver they were currently working on. It took a second for him to get his fingers around the liver which had already been severed from its attachments by Chiyeko with a chakra scalpel. When he finally had it in his grasp, he began to lift it out of the cavity but felt it slipping. His natural response was to grip it harder, only to be stopped by Chiyeko's firm grasp. The boy frowned and carefully let go of the organ, pulling his hands back out and turning to face his teacher. He didn't like failing something, especially when he already knew how to theoretically do it. He had been reading up on how to handle organs and other delicate things for the last week now. He should be able to do this in his sleep.

"Take it easy, Hirohito. You'll damage the tissue trying to squeeze it like that. Just relax and take your time. This poor sod isn't going anywhere."

Hideki nodded and took a deep breath, having grown used to the smell of the cadaver by this point. Eyes closed, he began his second attempt without even realizing it. Going by feel and gut instinct rather than following the textbook method he had read over and over again, he scooped his fingers around the liver and gently lifted it from the cavity. His grip was a strange in-between state that Hideki could only describe as a gentle firmness. Opening his eyes, he couldn't hold back the grin that appeared.

"Good work, Hirohito. Though I wouldn't rejoice yet. Weigh it, mark it down, and we'll move on to the next one."
Hideki scowled as the lights flickered once more, this time right as he was in the middle of writing down the weight of the liver he had just finished removing. If he was interrupted one more time, by living being or inanimate object, they would suffer his wrath.

The Medical Journal of Hirohito Hideki

Post by Sanjuro » Tue Jun 03, 2014 4:04 am

The warm orange glow of the sunrise broke through the shutters in a window, covering a desk in lines of golden light. The sunrise was a rare sight in Kirigakure, given the village's namesake mist often blotted it out, as was the sight that the light revealed. A man was hunched over the desk, cheek firmly pressed against the open pages of a thick book, glasses askew from the awkward position, and blue hair jutting out in every which way. As the rays of sunlight slowly stretched across the desk and eventually came into collision with the pale cheek that wasn't pressed against the book, the man groaned and lazily batted at the light like it was a fly or other annoying insect that he could shoo away.

And like someone had flipped a switch, Hideki shot up like a bolt. He sat ramrod straight, staring blankly at the wall ahead as his the cogs in his mind started to turn and the rest of his body started to awaken. Hideki blinked a few times, curious as to why half of the world seemed blurry and the other was clear, before he finally realized what the problem was. Reaching up, he plucked his glasses from his face and dropped them onto the desk, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tried to fight off his steadily growing headache. Really, it was his own fault for falling asleep in such a manner.

Slowly letting out a sigh, he refocused his attention to the book he had fallen asleep reading. While it held some fascinating concepts, it had been completely useless in his current line of research. He would have to remember to read it more in-depth at a later date, but for the moment he had more pressing issues to worry about. Like the fact that his father was dying and he had agreed to try and heal him. His younger sister had seemed to believe it was a sign that Hideki was coming back into the family fold. Well, he could let her have her fancies for the time being. He had his own reasons for wanting to lend his aid…
"Still alive then?"

He could feel the daggers his mother was glaring at him from behind, but he had gotten used to that over the years. In this instance though, he couldn't really blame her for them, given that his first words to his dying father after not seeing him in almost two years were taunting. She left with a harrumph and slammed the door behind her.

Of course, all of that didn't prevent the bedridden man from giving a harsh bark of laughter. It came out more like a cough but Hideki knew the sound well enough. "So she finally caved and told you? Bah, weak-willed woman. I was looking forward to dying without seeing your disappointing face again."

"I am sorry to disappoint you once again, Father." Hideki murmured with a slight arching of his eyebrow. "But there are a few matters that need to be attended to before I am finally rid of you for good. I am still your heir, after all."

Personally, he couldn't give a damn about the formalities of inheriting his father's title as head of the family. The Hirohito family wasn't a clan, there was nothing special about their bloodline, but they had been ninja of Kirigakure for generations. For some reason that had convinced his grandfather, and in turn his father, that they should act like they were a clan. Just another reason why Hideki had left home as soon as he could.

"Tch, if only you had more ambition. You were smart, talented even, when you were a boy. But no, you wasted your talents on tinkering with toys and playing with herbs. It shames me to have a son such as you. Your sister though, she is every bit as smart as you were when you were that age. She even wants to be a proper kunoichi. If only she had been born a boy…"

Hideki shook his head. That one rambling statement summed up his father in a nutshell. Nothing was ever good enough. He finally got a good look at the man he called a father. Despite the fact that he was only in his mid-forties, Hirohito Shusuke's once jet black hair was now littered with patches of grey. His once strong muscles were now frail and, if Hideki were to guess, beginning to atrophy. Hideki's eyes narrowed as his clinical mind started to take over.

"What are you dying of, anyway? Mother refused to answer me when I asked earlier. I'd hate to find out that it was hereditary and something I need to watch out for."

The way he phrased the question was taunting and sounded completely self-absorbed, which was exactly how Hideki had wanted it to sound, but he had to admit he was curious. If this was some kind of illness then surely his parents had consulted someone about it. Obviously, the results had turned up fruitless, but surely any decent medic could have come up with a cure after six months. It wasn't like they couldn't afford to pay for the medical bills.

The smirk on his father's face faded and was replaced with a frown. "Don't know. No one seems to know what it is. We just know I am dying, my chakra coils are basically gone at this point and I can barely move. Not even the best medical ninja Kiri has could tell us what is killing me."

A slow smirk started to spread across Hideki's features. The way his father had described what was affecting him… Hideki let loose a soft chuckle. Shusuke turned as far as his neck would allow and scowled at his son. Hideki's chuckle turned into full blown laughter before he finally calmed himself enough to simply lean back in his chair and stare right back into the same blue eyes as he had.

"And what is so damn funny, boy?"

"Two things." Hideki started, raising his hand with one finger raised. "First, that you think you consulted the best medical ninja in the village. Obviously you didn't, because I am only just finding out about this now." His smirk broadened as Shusuke's scowl deepened. He raised his second finger. "Second, I think I know what it is that is killing you. And, I can probably heal you."

Silence. Utterly silence. Hideki had heard the door open just as he delivered his revelation, his mother had probably come to see why Hideki had started cackling. The scowl on his father's face had deepened even further, which Hideki hadn't thought possible at this point.

"Y-you know what this is? How? Everyone we asked said they had never seen anything like it before."

Hideki nodded. "Well of course they wouldn't have. It's not a naturally occurring disease or virus. It is artificial, similar in nature to a poison, though it cannot be cured like one." Learning forward, Hideki made a few hand seals and held his hands over his father's chest, ignoring the grunt of protest from the man. The diagnostic technique just confirmed what Hideki had already assumed.

"Well, what is it? And why do you know so much about it?"

The Hirohito heir sighed and leant back, pulling his hands away from his father and tucking them into the pockets of his coat. "It is an unnamed, artificially created virus that targets the hosts chakra circulatory system. It erodes and collapses the chakra coils, which in turn affects the rest of the body. As for how I know all that, well… I helped to create it."
It had been seven years ago, when he was still apprenticed to his former mentor before the 'accident' which had resulted in his admission. Both he and his master, along with another master and apprentice, had been tasked with the development of a new method of assassination. The idea behind the virus was that it allowed for a bloodless coup. You infected a political leader through subterfuge, and as they steadily grew weaker it would make it easier to plant people in key positions of power that would ultimately allow them to take over after the 'unfortunate' passing of the sickly leader. It was a virus that was virtually undetectable to those that didn't know what to look for, and could last years if used properly.

All of that had come to a crashing halt though when the other senior scientist had mysteriously vanished, along with his apprentice. After that Hideki's master, who already had his own doubts about the entire project, ordered it to be shut down. The general assumption was that the other scientists had realized just how powerful the virus they were creating was and wanted to obtain power for themselves, and had gone rogue. Despite the village's best efforts, they had eluded capture and too this day the project had been sealed. So why all of a sudden did the virus that Hideki had a hand in creating so many years ago show up in his father?

That was the real reason he was assisting in curing the Hirohito patriarch. He was curious. Nothing more, nothing less. Turning back to his book, Hideki frowned at it and slammed it shut. While the virus was functionally the same, his initial attempts to remove it had proved ineffective. Modifications had been made that Hideki would need to account for, but he didn't know precisely how he should go about it. Hence, the research.

Shoving the book to one side, he picked up a scroll from the pile he had just to go through, and cracked it open. He had to get back to work. This was far too interesting to let lie.

Stat Training II – Wit
1018/1000
Hideki was hunched over his desk, scrolls and books of all sizes in scattered around him in a mess that would have surprised most that knew the doctor's need for order. Of course, if anyone tried to tidy up the mess, Hideki would have bit their head off and assured them that there was a system to the chaos. And there was, really. He knew exactly what each text was, where it was located, and how to quickly reference things when he needed to. It was just… messy. It was the only aspect of his life that he allowed such chaos to reign over, really.

He was currently poring over notes he himself had written seven years ago, alongside notes his master at the time had taken. The entirety of the notes, which were composed of eight different scrolls and two leather-bound journals, were an old project, one which had recently resurfaced in his life. The theory behind the project had been immensely complex, at least it had back then, and Hideki had only understood about a quarter of what the project would actually accomplish. Of course, now he was older and much further on in his studies, he understood the theory behind the virus they had been developing back then. But, the one thing he hadn't been involved in, was how to cure the virus.

It wasn't like a poison, he couldn't just extract it. According to the notes, it was like a disease. It infected the chakra circulatory system, feeding off the chakra within the host's body like a parasite. The longer it fed, the more eroded the chakra coils became until it eventually killed the host. It was the opposite of opening all eight Chakra Gates, which burnt away the chakra coils and the body from an overwhelming burst of chakra. Rather than one last moment of supreme power and dying in the same instant, this virus drained away all power and killed slowly. It truly was an excruciating way to die.

No wonder his master had abandoned the project.

If only he hadn't, Hideki wouldn't be in this current mess. The project had been abandoned before the virus had been fully developed and thus the cure had never been worked on. There was no drug, no technique, nothing. Which meant Hideki had to develop one. He had tried to heal it with the Mystical Palm technique, and had even attempt to cut away the virus with the Chakra Scalpel. Both attempts had proved fruitless. The virus was so far spread that even with cutting away or healing part of it, it could grow back. He could slow down the spread and give the host, in this particular case his father, more time, but ultimately hadn't been able to cure it.

According to the notes he was reading at the moment, his master had realized just how dangerous a virus like this could be if truly weaponized. Yes, the virus was technically already a weapon, but if somehow they were able to take the liquid formula and turn that into a gas without losing the virus in the process, it could potentially wipe out entire villages. As a result, he shut down the project before it could get to that point. There were also notes, scribbled more as afterthoughts than actual documentation, about the potential cures.

His master had gone on to describe the virus like a weed. You could trim it back, but ultimately it would keep growing. In order to truly cure it, one would have to destroy the virus in its entirety in one go. If even a small piece of it remained within the host, it would take hold and start spreading once more. Unfortunately Hideki's master hadn't gotten to the point where he had been able to create a technique or drug that could perform such a large task. To be able to affect the entire chakra circulatory system at once, without damaging it further… Hideki doubted even he could do it. Something on that level would take not only an exponential amount of chakra, which Hideki admittedly did have, but also an exponential amount of chakra. If Hideki were to attempt such a thing, he would probably kill himself in the process.

Unless…

Hideki suddenly launched up from his chair and left his desk, crossing the study and reaching up to the highest point of his bookshelf. At the far left were his own personal journals, ideas on techniques or experiments that he had jotted down, but had yet to actually put into practice. If he remembered correctly, there was something in one of these that could potentially help. He pulled down all of the journals and went back to his desk, pushing them aside and leafing through the pages of his journals, scanning each one looking for what he thought might be able to help.

With each journal he went though, he got more ideas, but by the third one he still hadn't found what he was looking for and was growing frustrated. As he reached the midway point of the fourth journal, he came to a halt and started to read carefully. Yes, this was an idea he had had a few years ago. If he could combine the technique that allowed multiple medics to run their chakra through a medium in order to heal a badly injured patient with the Chakra Scalpel technique, he could use his own fine control and the chakra of others to, potentially, affect the entire chakra circulatory system at once and cut away the virus before extracting it in a method similar to how a medical ninja extracted poison.

He would essentially be combining three different techniques into one. Grabbing his pen and an empty scroll, he started scribbling down ideas of how to effectively combine all three techniques. If this worked… he could theoretically use the technique to cure any kind of disease. It would be his greatest technique to date, possible on par with the creation of the Mystical Palm technique.

That thought brought a smirk to Hideki's face.

Stat Training III – Control
1038/1000
Hideki was standing over his father's bed, arms and hands extended, palms flat and hovering a few inches above his father's forehead and stomach. On the other side of the bed stood his mother in the exact same position, though her hands were directly on top of Hideki's own. Beneath the pair, surrounding the entire bed and half of the room they were in, was an intricate seal that Hideki could barely comprehend, much as he hated to admit it. It wasn't something he had designed, he simply didn't have the necessary knowledge of Fuuinjutsu. It was a design of his mother's. It was allowing her to channel her own chakra through Hideki, allowing Hideki to take control of it and add it to his own.

Hideki, unused to having such a large amount of chakra flowing through his system, was currently struggling to retain control of it all. He hadn't even begun the Chakra Scalpel technique yet. The chakra was gathered in his hands, and it felt like Hideki would lose control of it at any moment. It almost felt like the chakra had a will of its own, wanting to jump free and release untold havoc. Beads of sweat were trickling down Hideki's forehead and neck and the doctor was gritting his teeth to stop from reaching to wipe them away.

It took a substantial amount of effort to reign in the chakra, shaping it into the scalpel that he would soon pass through his father. Slowly, very, very slowly, he lowered his hands until they were in direct contact with his father's skin. Eyes closed, he was using his sensory abilities to feel the chakra in his hands as it flowed out from his own chakra nodes and into his patient. At this point, the man below him was no longer his father but just another patient. He couldn't afford to let emotion ruin his very tenuous control over this chakra.

The chakra slowly worked down from the entry point. The chakra in the patient's forehead was probably the most dangerous at the present moment, snaking around the chakra coils in the brain before slowly making its way down the rest of the pathways in the head and face. Hideki had to ensure the chakra would only affect the virus that was currently latched on to the chakra coils, and not the chakra coils themselves. That would be the most difficult part, but that would also come later. For the moment, he had to coat every inch of the patient's chakra circulatory system in his own chakra before he turned it into a giant scalpel.

Once the chakra was done in the head, he directed it down the shoulders and arms and focused on the chakra that was currently flowing from the patients stomach and down through the legs and feet. This was the easiest part of the process, primarily because it was the safest. There were no vital organs that he could accidently affect in the arms and legs, though the chakra was harder to control the further it got away from his points of contact. It was a decent trade off, he supposed, that at least if he lost control now he wouldn't damage anything too important.

Pulling his, admittedly dark, sense of humor back into line, Hideki continued flowing chakra through the chest of his patient. It was here that he was truly worried. It was a midway point between the two sources of chakra, and also directly in line with the heart. He was painstakingly slow as he carefully snaked the chakra along the pathways around the heart. Moving slowly was taking even more control that Hideki thought he possessed. He couldn't afford to lose control here though, he was close to joining the two sources of chakra and being able to continue to phase two of the procedure.

Finally the chakra was safely away from the heart and met the point where he was flowing chakra in through the patient's stomach. With the entire chakra circulatory system coated, and Hideki holding it all in place with not a small amount of effort, he tweaked his chakra a little to activate the most dangerous part of the entire technique. All of a sudden the chakra within the patient 'sharpened', targeting the virus that Hideki could almost feel latched onto the chakra coils.

There was a brief second where his senses almost died at the overload of chakra and control he was putting out. Unable to really see what was going on and relying entirely on his feel alone, he had no idea if he had accidently severed part of the chakra coils or not. When he could finally sense the patient's chakra, he immediately scanned for any disruption in the flow of chakra, which would indicate a sever someone. Finding none, he almost let out a sigh of relief. Almost.

Using the chakra he had sharpened into a scalpel, he smoothed the edges and brought it away from the chakra coils slowly, enveloping the severed virus in its entirety like a giant blanket. Now was the easiest part of the entire procedure, though Hideki couldn't afford to let his chakra slip lest he leave behind a part of the virus. Directly the chakra up through the body, rather than making an incision to extract the virus, he guided it up and out of the mouth of his patient.

The virus poured out along with stomach bile and a few other nasty things, and Hideki finally allowed his control to waver and die. Running almost entirely on adrenaline at this point, Hideki used what little chakra he had left to perform a basic diagnostic technique. He surveyed the chakra circulatory system of his father, making sure his attempt to remove the virus had been successful. When he was sure it had been, Hideki let out a soft chuckle. Not at essentially saving his father's life, but at the success of his new technique. Now if only he could learn to perform it without the assistance of his mother, everything would be perfect.

With that thought lingering in his mind, Hideki collapsed and the world went black. Chakra exhaustion was such a bitch.

Stat Training V – Stamina
1038/1000
Hideki had finally managed to locate the only training ground in Kiri that had a waterfall. It had been created artificially for the express purpose of training, of course. And, thankfully enough, it seemed to be void of any human life. Taking his glasses, he tucked them carefully into his coat pocket, he wouldn't want to be wearing them for the next few hours. Stalking across the training ground to the artificial lake and waterfall, he stripped his coat from his person and hung it on a line specifically for holding the clothes of trainees. Next came his turtle neck, leaving the doctor's skinny frame exposed to the elements. His incredibly pale skin was littered with scars, not that they particularly bothered him. He had caused most of them himself anyway.

He flowed chakra down into his feet without conscious thought, doing it automatically as he took the first step onto the lake's surface. He stepped over to the waterfall, ignoring the spray hitting his face, and put his hand directly into the rushing water. He grunted at the sudden pressure, but kept it there for a moment before pulling it back to him. It was completely dry. He let go of the chakra he was exuding from his hands. The training exercise was something he had developed when he was younger to exert more control over his chakra. Now it was to become an exercise in stamina.

Concentrating for a brief moment, he pushed chakra out from his head, shoulders, and upper back. When he felt it settle in to place, he stepped underneath the waterfall entirely. The rampaging falls sought to crush him beneath its weight, but Hideki stood firm until he was sure he was in place. Folding his legs beneath him as he sat on the water's surface, he was now producing chakra just about every point on his body. It was keeping him dry, afloat, and taxing him incredibly. Which was the point of this exercise; exerting this amount of chakra at such a constant rate was a struggle and he wouldn't be able to last very long. However, draining his reserves and allowing them to recuperate would assist in expanding them and allow him to draw on more chakra.

Keeping the chakra-made barrier between himself and the heavy flow of the waterfall was drawing on every ounce of chakra Hideki had. Sweat was already beginning to gather on his forehead and neck, not that one could easily tell given he was already wet from the waterfall. The actual control of his chakra, both keeping him from getting absolutely saturated and keeping him afloat, was easy. Keeping it constantly flowing, pushing out all his chakra in all directions, was making him feel physically sick due to the sheer exertion.

Sure enough, he dropped below the surface of the water a few seconds later. He had felt his chakra beginning to give way, and directed it so that he could drop down into the water without being crushed by the rapids above. Resurfacing, the doctor shook his head so that his hair was not stuck to his forehead and pulled himself up onto the surface of the water again. If this were a lesson in control he could call it a day. But it seemed he was going to have to torture himself if he wanted to build up any kind of decent stamina.

And so he pushed himself under the falls once more, flowing his chakra in all direction to keep the water at bay, and sat down in his meditative position again. His precise internal clock has counted about a minute thirty in his first attempt. It was pathetic. He would need to expand that until he could last at least five minutes exerting this amount of chakra. How was he ever going to perform large scale experiments if he passed out after attempting to use a large amount of chakra?

When his chakra finally gave way again, he had counted a minute thirty five. This was going to take a while…
It had been a week since he had first started this tortuous training method. In that week, Hideki had decided that if any of his subordinates pissed him off, he was going to assign this training to them. If it was hell on him with his precise chakra control, he almost felt sorry for those with lesser control. Almost. As it was, the doctor was back at the training ground once again and working on his pathetically low stamina for a shinobi of his rank.

Hideki was currently sitting below the raging falls once again, his eyes closed and hands folded in his lap, a blue aura of chakra surrounding him and keeping the water from crushing the doctor. He was counting in his head, the numbers ticking in his mind's eye like he was watching a clock. Sweat was pouring from his face and back, his teeth were clamped together and he was fighting to keep from grinding them.

The exertion was easier to manage now than it was at the beginning of the week. He was still feeling the physical effects of using so much chakra, but he wasn't feeling nauseous anymore, which was a good sign. He could feel his chakra beginning to putter and die, so rather than letting it fade and get dragged under the lake by the waterfall again, he stood and moved out from the raging water before he ran out of chakra entirely. When he made it back to the shore, he flopped to the ground in an undignified heap and stared up at the sky.

His internal clock counted three minutes and thirty eight seconds. Two minutes and eight seconds longer than his initial attempt. It was progress, though not as much as he would have liked. A solid five minutes would have been better, but all things considered he wasn't entirely unhappy with the results. His stamina was improving, which was the entire point of the exercise. And while he had very little intention of keeping up at the rate he was currently going, he knew that it would continue to steadily rise as long as he kept training.

Removal TechniqueShow
*Removal Technique
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: Blood Clot Technique
In the event that a foreign object gets lodged into a patient's body, such as the point of shuriken or a senbon, the Removal Technique can be utilized to retrieve it. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will place them on either side of the wound in question. From here, the medical-nin will carefully manipulate the surrounding tissues by channeling chakra into them, coaxing the foreign object to the surface of the wound in order to extract it. Users of this technique are advised to analyze the severity of the wound beforehand, as more complex wounds will take longer than the one (1) post of concentration needed to extract most objects from superficial to moderate wounds. This technique should be used in conjunction with a tissue regeneration technique or the Blood Clot Technique. The Removal Technique can be held for a maximum of four (4) posts.
"Pay attention. I will only be explaining this once."

Dark blue eyes, hidden behind two panes of glass, traveled the length of the room and the owner fought back his sigh. How he had ended up teaching an entire class of prospect medics was beyond Hideki at the moment. All he had wanted to do was brush up on the basics, it had been a while since he had really used them outside of his experiments, and somehow he had gotten conned into teaching.

Picking up an arrow, he examined the head to ensure it was sharp before directing his attention to the students. "The Removal technique," Hideki hated how bland that name was, "is a medical ninjutsu that is often used in conjunction with either a regeneration technique, such as the Mystical Palm or Skin Regeneration techniques, or a technique designed to stop blood flow, such as the Blood Clot technique."

Hideki quickly and clinically stabbed the arrow through the leg of the medical dummy lying on the table in front of him. Halting before it could go all the way through, he snapped the shaft and placed it aside, leaving the arrowhead firmly stuck within the leg. "If this injury were to be healed without first removing the arrowhead, it would cause far more problems than it would solve. Thus, the purpose of the Removal technique." Hideki lifted his hands and ran through a set of hand seals, ensuring to go slowly so that his students would be able to follow and memorize the sequence. Gathering his chakra, he directed it into his hands until they gave off a slight green glow. "Once the chakra for the technique has been gathered, place a hand on either side of the wound."[/b][/color]

Focusing chakra into the tissue surrounding the wound, Hideki focused on an almost massaging type motion with the medical chakra. He could feel the chakra moving the tissue around the arrowhead and began to speak to his class again. "Once your chakra is effectively surrounding the wound, it is a matter of coaxing the foreign object, in the case the arrowhead, to the surface of the wound. If the wound isn't a clean one, this can take a little more control, time, and patience than usual, but should not be impossible." Even as he spoke, Hideki was performing the process he was explaining, demonstrating his supreme amount of chakra control. The doctor was going based entirely on feeling, given that he couldn't see into the wound, but he knew the arrowhead was moving smoothly if a little slowly back along its trajectory. "If you performed the technique correctly, upon cancellation of the technique and moving your hand away the wound you should find…" Hideki pulled his hand away from the wound, palming the arrowhead as he did so, before rolling it around between his fingertips. "the obstruction."

Casually dropping the arrowhead beside the broken shaft, Hideki tucked his hands into pockets and stared directly at the medical students. "I do hope you got all of that, because I won't be repeating myself."

Expert Antidote TechniqueShow
*Expert Antidote Technique
A-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: Intermediate Antidote Technique; user’s averaged Wit and Control stats must be 9 or above
A jutsu similar to its predecessors, the Expert Antidote Technique is a useful, but particularly taxing Iijutsu performed on poisoned patients. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will make a small incision (with a knife, scalpel, etc.) on the patient and then place his/her hands over the new wound. As this chakra is channeled into the body, it extracts the poison out of it and into the user's palm. After one (1) post of the extraction process, the user will remove his/her hand, and place it over a container of some sort (anything that can bear liquid). From here, the liquid poison will be ejected from the hand along with the remaining chakra that was used to extract it. As this chakra interacts with the poison over the course of a second post, its molecules will be rearranged to form the antidote for the poison in question. This works only on A-Rank or lower poisons. The antidote takes a total of three (3) posts to fully rid the body of the poison.
The lamp light flickered, drawing blue eyes from the thick file on the wooden table for a moment, watching the flame dance behind the glass case, before they went back to poring over the text. It was a journal compiled by one of the many brilliant minds that had come before his own, detailing their studies of a number of exotic flora and fauna, all of which produced some kind of venom that could be harvested and weaponized. A number of them even had antidote's listed alongside the poison, but many of the ingredients necessary had long since become extinct or were in a country on the other side of the world.

Hideki leant back in his chair, rubbing his forehead. It seemed like the best way to curse his current patient of his poisoning would be to use the Expert Antidote Technique. He knew the theory behind it already, given that it was simply a more advanced form of the other antidote-synthesizing Iijutsu he already knew, but there were so few opportunities to practice on a poison virulent enough that he could comfortably say he had perfected the technique. In fact, in his many years of being a medic and scientist, he had only ever attempted to use the technique once and it had failed miserably.

His control and knowledge of poisons had grown considerably since then, but he still would have preferred to use a more traditional antidote. Given that he only had another day or so before the Special Jounin under his care gave in to the poison, Hideki simply did not have the time to go scouring through Frost Country for some rare herb that may or may not even exist anymore. The journal was over one hundred years old after all and even then it had mentioned the herb was exceptionally difficult to find.

Closing the journal and placing it to the side, he plucked a medical textbook from the top of his desk that contained the detailed description of the technique he was about to attempt. He would go over it one last time before he tried to perform it. Opening to the correct page with a level of practiced ease, Hideki smoothed it over and started reading it, mumbling under his breath as he went.

The Expert Antidote Medical Ninjutsu

Having two different precursor techniques, the Expert Antidote technique is changed very little in terms of the fundamental basics. Where this technique differs is the amount of control and chakra required by the Medical Ninja performing the Ninjutsu, given that it is designed to extract far more virulent poison than either of the parent techniques.

Tools required prior to the operation consists of some method of containing the poison once extracted, a sterile bowl or container is best but anything that would be capable of bearing liquid will do, and a scalpel or other means of creating an incision in the patient. Once these tools are prepared, the Medical Ninja will need to perform the following hand seal sequence and guide their chakra to their hands…

Hideki's eyes trailed over the hand seal diagrams, ensuring that the sequence was memorized. It was similar to the hand seals needed for the other Antidote techniques, just longer.

After sufficient chakra has been gathered, the Medical Ninja will make an incision somewhere on the patient. Depending on whether or not the entry point of the poison was delivered via ingestion/inhalation or directly into the blood stream via a wound, this incision should be located on the chest or close to the entry point respectively. The Medical Ninja will then place their hand with the gathered chakra over the incision and guide the medical chakra into the incision.

The resulting chakra will search out and extract the poison, though only a portion of it. This stage does not require a large amount of chakra but it requires a precise amount of chakra control. Once the poison has been withdrawn into the palm of the Medical Ninja, along with the chakra that wasn't used to extract the poison, the Medical Ninja will then transfer the poison extract into the waiting container. It is at this stage that the majority of the chakra gathered comes into play, as the Medical Ninja's chakra must affect the poison extract on a molecular level, reversing the nature of the chemicals in order to create an antidote to the specific poison that was extracted.

The antidote is then taken by the patient, which takes about as long as an antidote made of natural ingredients would in order to take effect. In the case that the patient could suffer another poisoning, the antidote created via this Medical Ninjutsu can be amplified to create a vaccine via the
Perfect Cure technique. See page…

Closing the book, Hideki leant back in his chair and sighed. It gave him no new information, but he was somewhat glad he had taken the time to read it. It reassured him that he knew the process off by heart, it was now a simple matter of putting it into practice.

It didn't take the doctor long to make his way through the dank hallways of headquarters and into the examination room where the hunter ninja suffering through the poison was laying. The Special Jounin was unconscious, but that did nothing to disguise the sheer amount of pain the man was in. His face was twisted up, his muscles were clenched, and his breathing was coming in short gasps. Hideki's presumed twenty-four hours was actually probably closer to twelve.

Plucking an empty vial from his lab coat along with one of his scalpels, Hideki's face became a blank mask as he pushed all emotions out of his mind. He didn't have time to feel pity for the suffering man, nor excitement at attempting a new technique, nor contemplating the possibility of reverse engineering the poison for later use. All that he could afford to focus on at the moment was synthesizing and administering the antidote as quickly as possible.

Placing the vial on the small table for medical tools beside the examination table, Hideki pressed his hand on the Special Jounin's chest and pushed him down to ensure he didn't twitch while making the incision with his scalpel. That done, he put the scalpel next to the vial and quickly ran through the hand seals, manipulating his chakra into its healing state and gathering it within his hand. Again, he used one hand to hold the patient steady while he placed his left, the one the chakra had gathered in, over the incision and worked the chakra in through the wound.

It didn't take long to find the poison and latch onto it with his chakra, it had already spread quite far and close to the Special Jounin's heart. Hideki slowly drew his hand away from the incision, watching as the chakra rose from the wound along with a sample of black liquid, the poison that was killing his patient. Plucking the vial from the table with his right hand, he floated the chakra and poison over it before gently lowering it in, swirling it around once and taking a look at it before funneling more chakra into the mixture.

The vial took on a green glow as the healing chakra went to work on the poison. He could feel it mixing in, rearranging the very molecules of the poison. It was a lot more taxing than Hideki had expected, but the control aspect was something he could handle with a practiced ease. Soon enough, the glow died down and all that was left in the vial was the liquid he had extracted, the chakra having mixed in entirely. With a shrug, he brought the vial to the Special Jounin's lips and forced the man to drink it.

He waited a few minutes after he watched the swallowing action of the Special Jounin's throat before running through the seals for the Medical Diagnosis technique. Running the technique over his patient, Hideki let out a silent sigh of relief when he realized the antidote was working. He had been misguided in his doubt, his control was much more refined now than it had been in his youth, a technique like this should prove no problem for the doctor in the future.

Now then, what had that book said about creating a vaccine…

Burn TreatmentShow
*Burn Treatment
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
Prerequisite: Burn Ointment Technique
A step up in the ability to treat burns, Burn Treatment is used to alleviate pain caused by burn wounds. After focusing chakra into his/her hands, the user will hover them above the burn wound. As the chakra is channeled into and around the burn, it cools the area and works to prevent harmful, scar-producing blistering in the affected area. To provide this soothing relief to medium-sized areas of first degree and second degree burns, it's fairly quick to do. For small-sized areas of third degree burns, it takes one (1) post of concentration to achieve the same effects. This technique is ineffective when applied to larger areas or burns worse than third degree.
"Are you sure I have to do this?"

"You are the one that wanted to learn Medical Ninjutsu, Hirohito. Now you can either suck it up and get to work or you can leave and not come back."

"… Yes, Chiyeko-sensei."

The thirteen year old Hideki swallowed the bile that had risen up in his throat and tried not to breath though his nose when he moved forward to inspect the injury he was supposed to be healing. The burn was third-degree, and had gone all the way through to expose the bone. Hideki could still smell the charred flesh, which was the source of the majority of his discomfort. It wouldn't be so bad if he couldn't smell it.

"Now then," Chiyeko said as she stood alongside Hideki, "a burn of this degree will require a few different techniques. In particular, the Skin Generation technique, which you were taught last week, and the Burn Treatment technique. We will be working on that technique now. You remember the hand seals?"

Hideki didn't answer verbally, he merely nodded and began going through the hand seals. Even as he was working through them, Chiyeko began explaining the technique once again. "Now, gather the chakra in your hands and place them over the affected area without making direct contact." Hideki's actions mimicked his teacher's instructions, the green glow of healing chakra extending from his hands and over the burn. "Good. Remember that this technique doesn't heal the burn entirely. It provides relief from the pain and prevents it from getting worse, it will also stop the burn from blistering. A third degree burn like this needs the Skin Generation technique, why?"

As Hideki manipulated his chakra flow to effect the deeper tissue around the burn to keep it from scarring, he thought about the answer. A technique like the Burn Treatment line of Medical Ninjutsu wasn't didn't accelerate healing. It was more a preventive measure to stop the burn from getting worse. "Because the technique, while healing the burn itself, cannot restore the affected area to original condition. It can't trigger mitosis and generate new skin because a third degree burn destroys entire layers of skin." Despite the fact he had been thinking about something else entirely and talking out loud, Hideki had kept most of his attention on his chakra flow and ensuring it had remained constant.

He had to make sure that his healing chakra affected each layer of skin that was around the burn area as well as the burn itself. Despite being such a small area that had suffered the third-degree burns, there were first- and second-degree burns in the surrounding area as well that he had to make sure received the proper healing from the technique. Adjusting his chakra flow again when he felt it flicker, he nodded more to himself than to his teacher when she patted him on the head.

"You are doing well Hirohito. Keep learning at this rate and you'll be taking my job one of these days."

Hideki snorted as he cut off the chakra for the Burn Treatment technique, having achieved all he could without applying a skin graft to the area that had suffered the worst damage. "What, you think I'll end up a teacher in the future? I don't think so, sensei. There are far more interesting things to be doing than teaching."
Hideki leveled a death glare at the Genin when he saw the chakra in his hand's fluctuate yet again. "Pay more attention to what you are doing, boy! The Burn Treatment technique may not be as exciting as other Medical Ninjutsu, but it is a vital skill to learn! If you keep this up, you will be walking out that door and never coming back to study, understand?"

The Medical Journal of Hirohito Hideki

It was a barely standing Hideki that tumbled into the small bedroom of his home, thick black bags under his eyes and his hair more unruly the usual. All he wanted to do was collapse onto his bed and sleep for the next three days, but he knew that even if he did manage to fall asleep it would only be for maybe four or five hours. Between his work at the hospital, his duties as head of the Research and Development Unit of the Head Hunter Division, and his own experiments, which by and large should be his priority but were somehow becoming less and less important, the scientist was exhausted. The fact that he hadn't slept at all in the last four days only served to exacerbate the situation.

Finally managing to get to his bed, Hideki dropped like a sack of potatoes and let out a groan as a loud pop echoed from his back. He had been standing upright for far too long, his poor back was missing its chair. Not even caring about the fact that he was still fully clothed, with the exception of his lab coat which he had actually left at the lab for once, Hideki fell asleep seconds after he adjusted himself so that his head was actually on the pillow.

"Hi-de-ki~"

Hideki shot up, scalpel in hand and eyes frantically searching the room, though he could see nothing in the darkness. His internal clock told him he had only been asleep for a few minutes. Whoever was here had been in his house before he had fallen asleep. A dark chuckle emanated from his side and Hideki swiped the scalpel where the intruder should have been but his blade met nothing but air. A snarl escaped his lips, his tired state of mind not lending itself to his usual level of control over his emotions.

"Really Hideki? Growling?" The voice sighed. "How the mighty have fallen."

Finally finding the strength, Hideki climbed out of his bed and adjusted his glasses that had gotten skewed when he had collapsed before. "Who are you?"

"Use that brilliant mind of yours, Hideki. You already know who I am, you just have to figure it out."

Hideki recognized the voice, now that he had time to process it. Really, he should have recognized it the moment he heard it, given that it was a voice he heard every day. But… if he was hearing that voice then…

"I'm hallucinating. This is simply the sleep deprivation catching up with my mind."

"See, I told you you knew who it was." A shadowy figured slowly stepped into the moonlight filtering through the blinds over the sole window in the room. "But if you think I am going to let you sleep, now that I'm finally here, you are sorely mistaken."

Hideki stared at the figure before him, his eyes slowly narrowing. He knew that it was nothing but a hallucination, but still… staring into those cold blue eyes it was difficult to keep from trying to stab the imposter.

"I'm not the imposter here. You are."

"Is that a fact?"

"Indeed.

"And how did you come to that conclusion?"

"Because the real Hideki wouldn't be allowing himself to be used like this. The real Hideki would tell those incompetent fools at the hospital to crawl back into the hole from whence they all came. The real Hideki wouldn't be wasting his time researching methods of hunting ninja that have decided to go rogue or coming up with improved healing techniques." The figure moved so close to Hideki that their noses almost touched. "No, the real Hideki would be furthering his own goals, his own ambitions! I would be using those fools as live test subjects and fodder for my next great invention! Not wasting my time training them!"

Hideki stared at the copy of himself, watching the scowl on his face deepen with malice and his eyes grow hard and as cold as ice. Really, there was very little difference between this hallucination and his current self. But the hallucination felt like it was missing something that Hideki currently had. He wasn't entirely sure what it was…

"I am furthering my own goals." The Hideki-Copy sneered at the response. "By working for the Head Hunter Division, I gain access to funds and tools that would be otherwise unobtainable. In cooperating with the hospital, I gain influence within the village and my choice of corpses to study."

And it was true. He had joined the HHD for the express purpose of obtaining more funds for his experiment. He had been working at the hospital more often to gain easier access to corpses of deceased shinobi. At least, that was what he told himself. In all honesty, the last experiment he had run entirely for his own benefit had been… months ago now. He hadn't tested any new poisons on the people living in the slums, he hadn't dissected a person for parts in a long time either.

… That was new. When had human's gone from being 'experiment's waiting to happen' to 'people'?

"So… you finally understand why I manifested. You've lost your way. Our way. What ever happened to proving that intellect was superior to brute strength? Have you forgotten your goal to make this village superior to all others through our brilliance? You waste your time training a Genin, going on missions with your cousin. You've gone soft."

Hideki opened his mouth to argue that the Hideki-Copy was false, but found he couldn't say it. In a way… it was true. Turn back the clock a year and Hideki would have never given even the most promising young mind the time of day, let alone a Genin that had very little natural aptitude for Iijutsu. If he had been asked to go on a mission that would take him away from the village and his experiments for an extended period of time, he would have said no rather than agree because his cousin was involved.

And yet, he didn't feel like he had abandoned his ambition at all. If anything, he felt closer to his goal than he ever had when he was constantly alone, locked away in his lab. Hideki slowly sat down on the edge of his bed, back rigid and hands folded in his lap.

"I haven't forgotten. In fact, I would say this is a far more effective method of spreading my influence throughout the village." He adjusted his glasses, causing the moonlight to reflect off them. "It is not my brilliance alone that will revolutionize the world. Oh, it will be my work that spearheads the assault, but it will be those around me that put it to use. How can I expect people to use my weapons, my inventions, if they do not trust that it will keep them alive? If all they are fighting for is a chance to be my next experiment?"

Then was when he realized what this version of himself was missing. Something that Hideki had only gained within the last few months. Something he thought he had squashed out of himeslf years ago. Who would have thought it would come back without any kind of warning? "You can go away for a while. Perhaps one day, in the future, I will need your lack of humanity once more. But for now, your services are no longer needed."

Laying down and staring up at the ceiling, Hideki was suddenly face-to-face with his copy. "There is no perhaps about it, my foolish self. One day you will wake up and realize this little fantasy of yours, where humans are worth our respect, is exactly that. A fantasy. You will come crawling back to me, and once I am in control again, I will not give it up."

"Goodnight."

Technique Being TrainedShow
[Turncoat]
S-Rank Status Genjutsu
After performing the necessary hand seals, Hideki will make eye contact with the intended target. Once caught in the Genjutsu, the victim will find themselves doubting their allies and begin to see them all as enemies. They will be left feeling like the only person they can trust is Hideki, even if Hideki was formerly an adversary, and will feel an overwhelming desire to eliminate their new enemies. This Genjutsu lasts for 6 posts unless dispelled.
Hideki was staring across the dark room, the only light in the room coming from the small flame of a candle on the wall, his dull blue eyes locked with the light brown of his assistant's. Oboro had a blank look on her face, like she was actively controlling her emotions, which was causing Hideki to frown. Theoretically the technique he was attempting to employ was sound and should work fine, but Oboro was showing no outward signs of it having affected her.

"Well?" he questioned. His voice was soft, though it seemed to echo in the dank cement walled room, and carried an undertone of annoyance.

His annoyance apparently didn't phase Oboro in the slightest, as her impassive mask remained in place as she answered. "The effect was there, sir, though it was faint. I could feel something telling me that nobody could be trusted, but it wasn't overwhelming. I was able to question why and that seemed to assist in fighting off the Genjutsu."

Damn. Hideki folded one arm over his chest and brought the other up to scratch his chin in thought. The Genjutsu he was attempting to create was possibly one of the most complex things he had ever worked on, affecting so many different parts of the brain with chakra alone was proving to be more difficult than he had first anticipated. After being able to successfully cast an Overlay-type Genjutsu, he had assumed a Status-type, even one as complicated as his theoretical Turncoat, would be relatively simple to put in to practice.

Apparently he had miscalculated.

This was possibly the worst thing about the jutsu creation process, at least when it came to the illusionary ninja arts. With Ninjutsu, Fuuinjutsu, even Taijutsu, one could create and test a technique in stages and see the effects, adjusting their calculations as they went. Genjutsu was unique in that he had to rely on the second-hand information provided by whomever he was using the technique in development on. There was no readily physical evidence available that would allow him to measure the adjustments he would need more accurately.

Perhaps that was why he enjoyed the use of Genjutsu so much. It was a challenge. Something more difficult and, when used correctly, just as powerful if not more so than any Ninjutsu.

Suppressing the urge to sigh, Hideki turned away from Oboro and made his way to the small desk in the corner of the room. He had pages upon pages of notes on the technique, having developed the theory behind it for weeks before attempting to use it on his assistant. Lifting the sheaf of papers, the scientist began to flick through them, eyes trailing along the notes trying to find the one he had written on the hand seal sequence. The fact that Oboro was reportedly feeling something told him that the chakra was reaching her. So either the technique was lacking in power or the chakra was being weaved incorrectly so as to not affect all the desired areas of the mind.

Either way, it was likely to be a problem within the hand seal sequence. The hand seals were what directed the chakra, essentially creating a list of rules that the chakra had to abide by in order to create the desired effect after the chakra had left the host body. Short of constantly channeling in order to maintain control over the chakra within a technique, which while it could be powerful and useful wasn't always the best method, one had to rely on the hand seal sequence to create and guide the chakra in a technique.

Finally finding the page he was looking for, Hideki dropped the rest of the papers back onto the table and started to read. The set of hand seals he had come up with, in theory, should have been sufficient. It was similar to the sequence he had created for his fear based status-type Genjutsu in the past. Perhaps that was the problem… The chakra in those techniques affected the chakra that flowed closer to the part of the brain that was most in control of the physical sensations and beliefs that were associated with fear. This time he was trying to manipulate not only their fear, but their sensations of trust and distrust, along with inducing a kind of bloodlust.

Grabbing a pen from his coat pocket, Hideki started making some adjustments to the hand seal sequence. He had assumed affecting the other parts of the brain could be done with a similar set of hand seals, but he would need to change a few. Recalling his lone Overlay technique, which also affecting the target's sense of trust, he reworked and combined the hand seals for that technique with the set he had already set up. By the time he had finished scribbling, he doubted anyone but himself would be able to understand what was written on the sheet of paper. It was a mess, and it was almost twice as long as the original hand seal sequence he had used in the initial attempt. But if it worked, then it worked. He could focus on trying to reduce the amount of hand seals needed after he was sure that the technique actually worked.

Turning back to Oboro, who was still waiting patiently on the other side of the room, Hideki nodded in her direction. Whether she saw it or not, she didn't acknowledge the motion and Hideki had no intention of checking to make sure if she was actually ready for the second attempt.

Bringing his hands to around the middle of his chest in height, he began to slowly move them through the complex hand seal sequence. If there was a time he was glad for his memory, it was about now. The entire sequence consisted of a ridiculous fifty-two different hand seals. Obviously, some were repeated here and there, but there were essentially four 'sets' of thirteen hand seals for each stage of the Genjutsu. The first set was the one that would serve to initiate the Genjutsu, acting as a control for the trigger and setting a stage for the rest of the technique. The second set would be the one affecting the affected individual's sense of trust, taking their memories of their closest allies and distorting them so as to make them feel distrustful towards those they saw as allies. The third set was the one that changed their opinion of Hideki, twisting any feelings they had about him previously into ones of trust and faith. The final stage was the bloodlust, the desire to eliminate those they no longer trusted, which required yet another set of hand seals.

Ultimately, by the time he had completed the full sequence and had the chakra ready to go, it had taken far too much time for it be effective in live combat. He would be relying on methods of capturing or otherwise controlling the intended target's movement before casting this particular Genjutsu whilst out in the field. Allowing the chakra to go to work, Hideki finally looked into the eyes of Oboro once more, dull blue meeting light brown and he felt the chakra of the Genjutsu latch itself onto Oboro's mind.

Hideki watched his assistant's face carefully. It would be the best indicator of any change in emotion, given her usual amount of self-control that rivaled Hideki's own. At first there seemed to be no change, and Hideki was beginning to grow frustrated at the lack of progress he was making, and then he saw it. A slight twitch of the corner of the lip. His eyes narrowed. Ever so slowly, the impassive mask Oboro wore shifted and formed into a very slight frown. Moving his gaze from her face, Hideki noticed that her muscles were far more tense than usual, as if she were preparing for a fight.

"Oboro? What do you feel?" Even as he spoke, he plucked a blank piece of paper from his table and had his pen at the ready.

"… I'm not sure. Strangely cautious, perhaps? I feel as though there is a battle that needs to be won. Sensei, the other's in the unit… I feel as though they are conspiring against you. But why would they? They know your ability is unmatched within our division… Surely they wouldn't dare move against you, sensei?"

That was good. Oboro was showing a lack of faith in her colleagues, probably the only people she interacted with regularly enough to consider allies. It was difficult to tell if the trusting him part was in effect, given they were superior and subordinate and there was a mutual respect already between them. He started to spin the pen between his fingers as he considered a way of testing the trust.

"Oboro…" Hideki began, "if I were to ask you to allow me to cut you open, would you allow me to?"

Oboro cocked her head to the side, a strange sight on the usually motionless woman, as she considered her answer. "You are possibly the most skilled medical ninja I know. If it was necessary, I would allow it. If anyone could perform such a thing without leaving a lasting injury, it is you sensei."

Well then, good to know the trust was working. While Oboro respected Hideki, he knew for a fact that she would never allow him to use her as a live test subject. She had seen the results of more than one of his experiments and knew there was a good chance there would be no going back if she volunteered for such a thing. Hideki scratched a few things down on his piece of paper, noting the slight change in the outward display of emotion. That could prove to be detrimental if he used this on someone with the intent of infiltrating an enemy camp before launching an assault.

Finally, he looked back up to Oboro and considered his last question. It was time to see if the bloodlust was there. "You said before that we cannot trust the other members within our unit. One of those is your brother. Are you willing to do whatever is necessary to stop whatever it is they are planning, even if it means killing your own kin?"

There it was. The hesitation was apparent on Oboro's face as she processed the question Hideki had put forth. This would be the deciding factor, he realized. Going from trusting to not trusting your allies was one thing, but also having the will to kill those the victim of the Genjutsu once trusted was another thing entirely. It was on a whole other level. Hideki watched Oboro's face, her mental struggle plainly obvious, before it finally settled into a cold emotionless mask the likes of which Hideki hadn't seen on Oboro before. He was used to carefully controlled stoicism, not this icy façade.

"If it is true that we can no longer trust my brother… that he really is a traitor… then yes. I will do whatever is necessary to protect you, Hideki-sensei."

A cold smirk settled across Hideki's face. Perfect.

Technique Being TrainedShow
[Sleep Deprivation]
A-Rank Status Genjutsu
After performing the necessary hand seals and placing his palm atop the head of his target, Hideki will trigger this illusion. By passing chakra through the victim's brainwaves, Hideki alters their mind's perception of time, making each minute that passes feel as though they have been intensely active for an hour. In effect, this feels as though they are being drained of their energy, leaving them exhausted and tired but unable to fall asleep. This lowers the body's natural inhibitions and can be torturous to those unconditioned. Hideki can keep this up for 6 posts, with each post resulting in a 0.5 drop in the target's physical stamina, making a total -3 loss of the target's Stamina if held for the full duration.
"Tell me, how good are you at measuring time internally?"

"Fuck you! That's how good I am!"

Hideki slid his chair to the side just in time to avoid a face full of saliva. "That wasn't necessary. I am going to let you leave as soon as we are done. Now hold still for a moment while I apply this."

The doctor brought his hands together in a string of hand seals, gathering his chakra and molding it into the necessary shape for the Genjutsu he was about to attempt. Yin Chakra, the aspect of chakra that the majority of Genjutsu were molded from, was entirely nonphysical. In very rare cases it could be used in an entirely offensive manner, but typically Yin Chakra was used to manipulate chakra flow and was ruled by the mind's eye. Most wouldn't consider Hideki to be very imaginative, given his terse nature, but his role as a scientist often required liberal use of his imagination, even if it was in a logical manner. This Genjutsu he was attempting to create was simply another application of his logical way of thinking in order to create a situation where his mind ruled over another's.

It was no wonder Hideki enjoyed the illusionary ninja arts so much.

Feeling the chakra gather in his hand, Hideki visually checked the straps that were holding his 'volunteer' in place before pressing his palm to the man's forehead, forcing his chakra through the tenketsu below his hand and manipulating the chakra that was flowing through the man's brain, interfering with the natural flow and attempting to exert his will over it. Hideki allowed for a few seconds to pass before taking his hand away and turning his attention to the man, who had ceased struggling against the bonds and was now simply staring at him with an exhausted if still angry look in his eyes.

That was a good sign. At least the illusion had taken partial hold. "Well? What do you feel? How long has passed since I placed my hand on your head?" Hideki questioned, ready to take down any answers in his journal.

"Fuck… you…" the man grunted between breaths.

Hideki sighed and adjusted his glasses. This was perhaps the most annoying part of testing new Genjutsu. A technique that could be labeled as a torture device wasn't exactly looked upon with smiles when using it on a fellow shinobi, so Hideki was forced to 'appropriate volunteers' from the slums. Often times, they were less than helpful. Occasionally the effects of the Genjutsu were immediately apparent and he didn't have to rely on their verbal responses, but in the cast of this technique.

"I believe I explained this to you once already. All I require you to do is to answer my questions with honesty and as much detail as you can manage, and you will be free to leave. I will even compensate you for your time. Continue this pointless act of defiance and not only will you not be compensated you will leave in a much worse condition than you entered in, if I allow you to leave at all. Now I will ask you again, how much time passed between when I placed my hand on your head and when I moved it away?"

The man opened his mouth, ready to throw out another insult, and Hideki leveled a death glare at him. He stuttered for a moment, reconsidering his options, before letting out a harsh breath. "Fine, you freak. It was what? A minute, two at most."

Damn. If he was being honest, that meant the time portion of the Genjutsu hadn't worked at all. "And physically? Do you feel tired or exhausted?"

"… A bit tired, I s'pose."

Only a little tired after a full two minutes exposure to a Genjutsu that should have made his mind think it had been active for two hours. Had he performed the hand seals incorrectly? Or was there something faulty with the Genjutsu itself? Leaning back in his chair, Hideki pulled his journal from his lab coat pocket and opened it to the pages he had his notes on the activation process of this Genjutsu.

The mental taxation was obviously present, though not to the extent he had originally calculated, so if there was a problem it was in the manipulation of the perception of time. While it was true he wasn't actually causing time to speed up or slow down, it should have felt like it was and thus the brain interpreted the time as hours instead of minutes. Hideki scratched his chin in thought. He could alter the hand seal sequence easily enough, adjust the way his chakra would interact with the target's brain. The baseline technique was fine, it drained the energy of the victim, but it was the sensation of time passing that would allow Hideki to use the technique for interrogation purposes.

Ignoring the grunting coming from the man, who probably expected to be released at this point, Hideki started writing out the adjusted hand seal sequence. Running over the sequence in his head, running the mental calculations, he figured this revised version should work as originally intended. Putting the journal back in his pocket, he turned his attention back to his volunteer once more and smiled, a small almost sincere smile that had the man struggling even harder to try and escape.

"Now… let's try this again. I have modified the technique, so whatever happens within the next few minutes should feel like you've been under for at least a few hours. Please be sure to tell me when you are close to the point where you feel as if you would pass out. That is the point I am looking to find."

Running his hands through the revised seal sequence, Hideki molded the chakra and gathered it in his hand. Almost ominously slowly, he placed his hand against the head of the constrained man and let his chakra invade the man's mind, going to work on inserting the illusion. He held the technique for a solid five minutes rather than the two minutes previously used. Pulling his hand away, Hideki had to lift the chin of his 'volunteer' because his head was drooping like he was trying to fall asleep.

Forcing eye contact, Hideki checked the man's pupils. Dilated, which was good, but they were aware enough that, if Hideki were of a mind to, he could still question the man. Snapping his fingers next to the man's face, Hideki watched and counted how long it took for him to react. There was definitely a delay in the standard reaction time.

"How do you feel?" Hideki questioned.

"Please… just let me go… please…I'm so tired." The man was whimpering, and he seemed to be trying to keep from yawning. Now that the technique was over and Hideki's chakra was no longer stimulating his brain, the man was close to passing out.

Pulling his journal out once more and a pen, Hideki got ready to write as he spoke again. "How long do you think you have been here?"

The man tried to lift his head but ended up just flopping back down again."I don't know. Hours. Please just let me go. I just want to sleep."

Hideki scratched some notes on the pages, a smirk settling on his face. The technique could be considered a success. Now, Hideki considered as he stood up and looked at his volunteer who had finally passed out. What was he to do with this one?

Stat Training VI – Stamina
1557/1500
The room was almost blindingly white. Pristine white tiled floors. Concrete walls that had been painted white. Even the ceiling was white. The ceiling light served to give the room an eerie, almost ethereal glow. In the middle of the room was a stainless steel table, covered by a single green sheet, with an unconscious individual laying upon it. It was male, five feet and nine inches in height, weighing one hundred and thirty three pounds, and in otherwise perfect health. A surprising fact, given the man had been plucked from the slums of Kirigakure no Sato. Standing over the unconscious man was a man that would appear average in every way if not for his bright blue hair and the shockingly white lab coat.

Hideki's gloved hands lifted and ran through a set of hand seals, gathering chakra and passing it into his patient almost off handedly. The chakra would link to his mind, letting Hideki keep track of the man's vitals as he underwent the procedure. The technique would be a constant drain on his chakra reserves, but with his chakra control he could minimize it so it could last for the full procedure and leave him without enough chakra for other techniques. Taking up a scalpel, Hideki firmly pressed it against the chest of the man and began the careful process of opening him up.

Once he had been opened up, Hideki put down the bloodied scalpel and ran through another set of hand seals. He gathered his chakra in his hands, the glow of chakra forming around them in the rough shape of a blade. The Chakra Scalpel technique, combined with his impeccable control, would allow him to make only the necessary cuts. However, it was another drain on his chakra, in addition to the Vital Monitor technique he had active, so Hideki had to be swift as well as precise otherwise he would run out of chakra and probably kill his experiment subject.

As his hands moved to the areas he wished to apply the chakra scalpel to, Hideki was already feeling sweat trickle down the back of his neck. He scowled a little at that. If he ever found a viable method to stop a human from sweating without any serious adverse effects, the first person he was using it on would be himself. The reason for the sweat was because losing chakra had a physical effect on the body. And while the techniques he was employed weren't particularly high ranking but they were a constant drain, so it was taking a toll on his chakra reserves.

As he finished opening up the area he needed access to, Hideki withdrew enough of the chakra in one of his hands that he could pick up the device he had made without damaging it. Theoretically the device would assist in increasing blood flow, allowing more oxygen to be delivered to the cells throughout the body. Carefully placing the device in the opening he had created, he pulled his hands out and cancelled the chakra scalpel entirely, running through yet another set of hand seals.

The glow on his hands went from blue to green. The Mystical Palm technique was one of the most chakra intensive techniques he knew. However, it was far too useful a technique to ignore, even with his constantly dwindling chakra reserves. The healing chakra started to seep into the areas around the device that he had been forced to cut away. It healed the cuts, restoring them to their original form. He applied more chakra to the technique, sweat now appearing on his forehead and dripping down the side of his jawline.

As Hideki was taking his hands away, having healed the immediate area around the implantation zone, he cancelled the technique and allowed himself a moment to gather himself. He was already exhausted from the constant drain of the medical techniques. It was probably the greatest downfall Hideki had as a surgeon. His impeccable control allowed him some leeway with the techniques, given that he used absolutely no excess chakra in his Ninjutsu and thus wasted none. But all the same, they were a constant drain and that meant his smaller than average chakra reserves had difficulty performing so many techniques in a row.

As he was half way through sewing up the man's chest manually, rather than using another application of the Mystical Palm, he felt the Vital Monitor technique running in his mind go into overdrive. Dark blue eyes, dull with exhaustion, suddenly went wide and a loud curse escaped the doctor's lips. The man's immune system was rejecting the implant! If he wanted any chance of salvaging both the device and saving the man's life, Hideki would be forced to…

Fuck it all!

Hands glowing blue, brighter than they had before, Hideki sliced open his incomplete needle work with the Chakra Scalpel and opened up the man again, his mind constantly tracking the man's vitals. He was starting to seize, thankfully Hideki had taken the precaution of strapping the man's ankles and wrists. It wouldn't be the first time someone had awoken on his table and been in a particularly violent mood. The doctor didn't realize it immediately, given he was desperately cutting away with his chakra scalpel, but he was panting heavily at the overuse of Ninjutsu. He was running dangerously low on chakra.

By the time Hideki managed to cut open all the incisions he had only just healed, the man was in a full seizure and Hideki had been forced to slow his pace if he didn't want to accidently kill him with all the shaking. The slowing down of the cutting had meant he was forced to use the Chakra Scalpel even longer than he should have. Hideki himself was beginning the shake at the exertion. He removed the device, ignoring the fact that it was covered in blood, and dropped it onto his side table. He would worry about what had gone wrong, why the man's system had rejected the implant, later. For right now though, Hideki had to try and save the man from bleeding out.

Something like was going to cost Hideki greatly. Running on fumes as it was, Hideki gritted his teeth as he shakily moved his fingers through the hand seals for the Mystical Palm once again. The green glow was slow to come to life, his chakra moving sluggishly as if even it was exhausted from the amount of use it was getting. Rather than applying the technique in small, controlled areas as he had done during the original procedure, Hideki spread his hands apart and splayed his fingers wide, guiding his chakra not to a single area but across the entire torso.

Blood trickled from Hideki's nose as he panted wildly, completely exhausted already, but still pushing himself further than he ever had before. A year ago he would have just let the man die and retrieved the device afterwards. It was in moments like this that he despised himself for embracing his own humanity rather than leaving it trapped behind lock and key in a dark corner of his mind. His chakra surged, a bright flash of green, as it worked its way through the entire torso. He wasn't just healing what damage he had caused. Due to the desperate necessity to heal everything as fast as possible, he was coating everything in his medical chakra.

The green chakra worked its way up and Hideki kept track with both the monitoring technique that was beginning to fade out of existence and his own eyes. The chakra soaked into every organ, every muscle, every vein and artery it came across, healing whatever damage it found in the process. Hideki was gritting his teeth hard, blood steadily flowing from his nostril and pooling around his lips and down to his chin. His own vision was growing blurry and his hands were shaking, but he refused to let the technique fade out of existence.

Finally the green chakra was done working with the internals and making its way up, restoring the initial incisions Hideki had made with the physical scalpel. It was fascinating, watching the wound close seemingly of its own accord, a slight amount of steam rising from the area as the chakra passed through the area. As the technique ran its course, restoring the man to the point he had been before Hideki had gotten his hands on him, the green chakra flickered and faded away. The doctor staggered, on the verge of passing out from chakra exhaustion. He reached out and grabbed hold of the side table, where his failed device was laid.

As he steadied himself, peeled the gloves from his hands slowly, shakily, tossing them onto the table as well, before reaching up to his face and wiping at the blood flowing from his nose with his bare hands. He wondered why he still felt like he was losing chakra, his mind a haze, filled with nothing but oxygen levels and blood pressure. As Hideki collapsed to the ground, finally giving in to the exhaustion, he realized the problem. He had forgotten to cancel the Vital Monitor technique. The weakest technique he had employed was the one that was going to send him into oblivion. He would have laughed if not for the fact that he passed out at the same time he realized his error.

Technique Being TrainedShow
*Clamp Technique
D-rank Iijutsu
While performing surgery or other types of healing jutsu, the user is able to use his chakra as a makeshift clamp to close off blood vessels which have been cut and prevent further blood loss. Lasts three posts.

Hideki was standing over his patient, scalpel in hand and cutting away as he tried to find whatever was causing the strange readings he had gotten with his diagnostic technique. As far as he could tell, this fool had been stabbed and a shard of the blade had broken off as it was removed. Normally that would be simple to rectify, there were a number of techniques he could have employed to remove the shard. The problem in this case was the fact that the injury had occurred months ago and the wound had since been healed, the piece of metal now floating around somewhere in the morons bloodstream and causing all manner of problems.

Hideki cursed a little as he nicked an artery. In his mental berating of his patient he had lost focus for a moment. At least the small cut wouldn't cause his patient to bleed out and die too quickly. He had time to apply a makeshift clamp of chakra. The process was actually rather simple, given how useful a technique it could be in certain situations. Already he was tapping into his chakra reserves, drawing on the flow of chakra and gathering it in the tips of his left thumb and forefinger. The hand was gloved but it would do little to hamper the flow of his chakra as he pressed his hand into the open incision.

It was a little finicky to get his fingers in the right place, given how small the cut was, but when he finally found the right position he started flowing his chakra from his fingertips into the artery he had severed. The soft blue glow lit up his fingertips first, flowing gently but quickly from his fingers to the vein where it began to settle in place. It took perhaps only half a second to materialize, but in that time Hideki manipulated the flow and shape of the chakra as it took on a solid aspect. The end result was a very small amount of his chakra that was almost solidified, similar in premise to a barrier technique, though it was located on either side of the artery he had nicked with his scalpel. The chakra was serving as a makeshift clamp, good for field operations when he didn't have access to a surgical one. The chakra created clamp wouldn't last a particularly long time, given the minute amount of chakra involved, but it was sufficient enough to suit his purposes.

Technique Being TrainedShow
[Body Modification • Extremities]
B-Rank Iijutsu
Often the most common types of body modification requested of Hideki, the doctor is capable of making alterations or augmentations to the arms and legs of an individual. By first performing a set of hand seals and flooding the patient's chakra network with his own medical chakra in order to keep it intact during the procedure, Hideki can then being to peel back the layers of flesh and muscle of the patient's arm or leg. Once he has the necessary access, Hideki can begin to make the requested modifications, augmenting or altering the limb, linking any implants to the chakra network, before closing up and healing the limb. The process is a lengthy one and the recovery time is typically about a week per limb, though the healing process can be sped up via Medical Ninjutsu.
It was a strange sensation, to be working in the lab at headquarters rather than the lab in his home. The reason it was so strange was that he was working on something that could easily be considered… morally wrong. But he actually had the approval of the council for this, along with extra funds and access to any resources he needed. That included live prisoners that had outlived their usefulness. Either he was gaining more recognition for his work than he had anticipated, or the council weren't as shortsighted as he had originally believed. In either case, it was ultimately working out in Hideki's favor. He wouldn't have to go to more extreme lengths to dispose of evidence of human experimentation.

Ignoring the fact that there were three people in the room other than himself and Oboro, his assistant, Hideki set to work. The procedure the doctor had in mind was one that Hideki had at least some experience with, no matter that it was second hand. The implantation of chakra-receptive tubules in the arms of his patient. His eyes grew cold, his face impassive, as he raised his hands and started running his fingers through a set of hand seals. He drew on his chakra, forcing it through his system and to gather in his hands, just as he would for most other Medical Ninjutsu.

Chakra gathered, Hideki placed his hands on the disinfected arm of his patient, his unconscious state being held in place by another Medical Ninjutsu being performing by Oboro. His chakra passed through the area he made contact with, seeping down through the skin and into the chakra circulatory system. It was a delicate process, essentially mixing his own chakra with someone else's chakra network. For a lesser skilled medic, the chances of either not connecting properly or shredding the chakra network to pieces was high. For Hideki, it was as simple as breathing. He passed his hands up the arm, his chakra constantly flowing, connecting to the chakra network. He was done in a matter of minutes and allowed his chakra to fade from his hands.

He glanced towards Oboro. No words were necessary. She nodded back and reapplied the technique, making sure that the patient had no chance of waking up any time soon. Hideki lifted a scalpel from the side table, the blade gleaming momentarily in the light, and picked his starting point. He dragged the blade across the skin, applying enough pressure to cut through the layers of the skin and straight down to the muscle. Carefully he worked until finally he had flayed the skin from the arm and hand almost in its entirety. He peeled it away, revealing the musculature below, and began to cut through that as well.

When he was finally done there was blood dripping onto the floor below the table, his gloved hands were now red and even up to his elbows had spatters of blood. Hideki wasn't fazed. The skin, the muscle, it had all been carefully and precisely severed to allow Hideki access. He held out his hand, not even looking up, and felt the implant get placed into his open palm. It was actually quite flexible. Hideki channeled some chakra through it, causing it to go rigid, for the purposes of attaching it properly. His chakra reached out and attached to the nearby muscle as he placed the tube in place.

This was the part he had coated the patient's chakra circulatory system in his own chakra for. As he began to close up the arm, repairing the damage he had done in the process of implanting the tube, he connected points of the chakra network, the tenketsu, to points on the chakra-receptive tube. They snapped into place, his chakra in the tube and his chakra in the chakra network serving like two magnets to assist in the process. Once he removed his own chakra from the mix, it should all be set and ready to go. Theoretically at least. There was no guarantee that the process would be a success, at least not on his first attempt at it.

He made a few hand seals, the blood on his hands doing little to hamper the process, and started flooding the arm with healing chakra as he closed each section of muscle he had cut past, each section of skin he had flayed. The glowing green chakra of his Mystical Palm technique would flood through the damage he had done, restoring it, healing around the implanted air tubule like it had always been there. When he was finally done with the technique, he pulled his hands away and picked up a ring of steel from the side table.

Turning over the hand, he looked at the hole he had made. It was the last part that had to be healed. It was the end of the tube, and it was fleshy and bloody and would become a serious problem if left in its current state. Hideki carefully inserted the metal ring, healing the area around it as he went, melding flesh with steel to create a solid opening. Finally done, Hideki took a step back and allowed himself a moment to admire his handiwork. There was no evidence that the arm had just been in tatters, with the exception of all the blood.

Time to move on to the next stage.
