[Plotboard] Spirits & Gen & Oh my... Nakajima Kyo had long since desired to get back into the swing of things, and back into doing missions. Since her captivity and then rescue by Konoha shinobi she felt she had been handled with kid gloves. Of course, her cousin was the Raikage now and so she couldn't help wondering if that had something to do with it. But finally she had been assigned a mission, as well as someone to take along with her on said mission. She didn't mind, happy for a chance to meet someone new as she always was, though it certainly wasn't the happiest of circumstances to meet someone under.

In her hands she held a simple scroll as she sat on a bench outside, enjoying the cool air and the rising sun as she awaited Senji. She was to brief him and the pair would start on their journey to this small, and quite obviously creepy, little place. More than once she reached up to touch her red scarf, ensuring it was in place. After all, she didn't want the first time she met this person to begin with them hearing the creepy whispers that seeped away from her on a continuous basis. She felt they were already facing something unsettling at best, no sense in adding to it.

He'd put on his combat gear straight away. The laces on his new greaves were a little stiff when he tied them, but it wasn't like he could use the pair he'd had before. His training had gotten him used to the get-up for certain, but he'd had to do away with his old set. They were barely even worth classing as clothes at this point. After fixing his scarf he'd checked himself in the mirror. He looked like he was trying way too hard, but he wasn't really sure what to do. It had been actual years since he'd gone on a mission. Three of them. He did not want to disappoint his former 'teacher' by being unprepared.

And so, it was with overly perfect appearance that Senji appeared before Kyo. His buttons shone, and his laces were the perfect middle between loose and firm. The white fabric practically glimmered it was so white, and the starch used in preparing it showed in how it remained stiff against gentle folds in his stature. In direct contrast his hair was a hopeless mess, an untidy ponytail tied at the back of his head held maybe half the hair it was supposed to if one were being generous in their description.

It was with painful formality that he found and approached the woman clearly awaiting someone. The scroll in her hand betrayed her as a shinobi with a mission document, and the way she looked around made it obvious that her companion had not yet arrived. From her appearance, she was likely exactly who Senji thought she was. And so, it was with mild discomfort that he approached and bowed deeply before her. "R-Ryakketsu Senji, Kumogakure Special Jounin. I believe that you've been waiting for me, and I hope that I'm not too late." He relied on the newness of his unifrom to detract from the traces of red welts that still showed at the edges of skin visible on his wrists and just above the scarf around his neck.

Kyo was getting bored, sitting there watching a spider flit across the pavement reminded her of one of the men who had saved her in Konoha. The thought caused a hand to drift to the side of her neck and touch two small scars from his fangs where he had managed to remove a poison. Silently she wondered if he realized that she remembered by now, the hideous transformation that he clearly hadn't wanted anyone else to see but somehow he had saved her life with it. But her thoughts were quickly interrupted by Senji's introduction. She visibly perked up, sitting up straight and staring at him a moment before a grin broke across her lips and she practically jumped to her feet. "Oh hello, Senji!" she said cheerfully, quickly pulling the man into a sight squeeze of a hug before releasing him, that smile still plastered on her face and her hands on his shoulders. "I'm Nakajima Kyo... seems you and I get to spend some time together, eh?" she asked, winking at him before finally releasing him to open the scroll in her hands.

She pursed her lips as she looked over the scroll and sighed. "I hope you're ready for a creepy time." she said, the cheerfulness still in her voice. "Seems a village sent a request for help after being attacked by spirits... but attempts to follow up have failed. Reports say the town is empty." she closed up the scroll and smiled at Senji as she held it out to him. "You're welcome to read the full details if you wish, but that's the gist of it really... Most of my own talents are in Genjutsu and Tenkujutsu, mind if I ask after your own talents? Might help us to better know how to work together."

A hug, the last thing that Senji expected. He straightened to the very border of stiffness, just managing to keep his composure by the barest of margins. "Yes it seems so!" he blurted out in response, more to try and extract himself from her reaching arms than anything else. This woman was overly familiar, and somewhat relaxed in her demeanour. While that made him slightly uncomfortable due to his sudden return to normal interaction, he knew that it would make his time significantly easier when trying to talk to her. She'd be willing to forgive many more missteps than others.

"So it seems, Senpai. I will take a look at the document now, if you don't mind." he replied, sticking to the respectful and deferential tone that had saved him from beatings for the past few years. He gently received the scroll and began to read it as Kyo continued to speak. He managed to continue to listen to her, but he still had to wait a moment before he could both consider a reply and read the brief presented to him. After a short pause, he managed, "I am specialised in Ninjutsu, Nakajima-Senpai. I am skilled in Offence, Defence, Detection, Suppression, and Medical roles. Truly, my talent for magical manipulation is broad in scope." As he finished he realised he'd come close to bragging, and brightened significantly. Plus, he'd called it magic, as was his habit. The blush reddened further.

Kyo couldn't help a chuckle at being called 'senpai' and Shinji's formal tone. The woman waved her hand in the air dismissively and shook her head. "Please, just Kyo." she told him. "Goodness me, I'm still getting used to hearing my name again, no need to push me towards titles too." she added with a chuckle, a brief glimmer of a sadness in her eyes making itself known before it too was dismissed. It was a brief moment of remembering the times her name had not been used, the things she had been called, and madness had momentarily taken her mind.

She took a seat on the bench again as Senji looked over the scroll and answered her question, the woman muttering under her breath a barely audible phrase as she kept her mind in the present moment. "As I wait dreaming, you shall go mad." It was the same phrase that she had been repeating over and over the day she had been rescued, and one she still often used to calm herself briefly to keep her mind from revisiting that past. She grinned at Senji, noticing the blush. "Oh very good then, sounds as if we may compliment one another well." she remarked, reaching up to touch her scarf. She glanced around as she checked to see how many were nearby. "Just to warn you though, in case anything strange happens I do want you to be aware of one risk of being around me." As she spoke, she gently removed her scarf and let it fall into a pile on her lap, watching Senji as she knew her leaking chakra would begin the gen momentarily. She would only leave the scarf off for a few minutes before replacing it, and the whispering voices would cease for Senji as she did so.
Ability in UseShow
未結合のチャクラ - Mi ketsugō no chakura - Unbound Chakra
Much like others of the Nakajima family, Kyo has a defect in her chakra which caused chakra to continuously leak out of her body at a rather slow rate. Unable to repair it, this became an integral part of Kyo's genjutsu use. As a result, anyone who gets within a distance equal to her control stat will be put under an effect similar to a Warp Genjutsu. The individual will hear a constant indistinct whispering as if from several sources and all around them, causing them to feel as if they are beginning to go mad. This ability presents with a constant -5 Stamina drain. This counterplays in a battle of her Control Stat Vs. the target’s Instinct Stat.
(Note: To clarify, this is an ability and not an actual genjutsu. As such it is not affected by Kai nor subjected to stacking rules, etc.)

Senji was visibly grateful that she chose to overlook the majority of his quirky reply, and he began to feel slightly more at ease thanks to her open demeanour. "Okay, Kyo." he said with a smile as he rolled the scroll back up. A town with its inhabitants spirited away to a man did not sound anywhere rnear normal, and it would take something powerful indeed to affect so many people at once. A powerful spirit for Senji to test his newly cultivated strength on.

"That we may, our skillsets appear to make for a fearsome long to mid range combination." He replied cheerily. It was just as he finished speaking that she took her scarf off. The whispers started low, and at first he thought he'd imagined them. Then came a slight pressure, as though his intuition willed him to be fearful of the voices. Luckily he had the mental fortitude to withstand it, but it was difficult to keep his mind from forcing the panic of insanity upon him. To say that the effect was extremely distracting would be something of an understatement. "Oh. I didn't expect that." He blurted as shock registered across his features. Held underground for some time at mercy of a man with a heart harder than steel and colder than the whitest tundra, he'd had many times when he'd had to question whether his mind had been... affected in some way. It was most disconcerting to have the feeling return somewhat insistently.

"I think I'd rather you kept it on," Senji chuckled as he put on something of a wonky smile. "It's an interesting ability, but I think I can focus through the worst of it."

Kyo chuckled as well, smirking at Senji's reply before she carefully put the scarf back on and the voices would stop. She nodded as he mentioned begin able to focus through it, and she smiled at him. "That's good." she remarked, thinking to herself a moment, quietly. "I wish I had more control over it and didn't need the scarf for it, but I'm afraid it is a constant that I can't stop." she admitted, shrugging as she stood and stretched briefly. "Is there anything you need to get before we start traveling?" she asked.

Her own gaze drifted towards a nearby stand, eyeing some of the treats there as she mildly wondered herself if she wanted something to at least have to munch on for the start of their journey.

Senji's crooked smile persisted as she rewrapped herself in the bright red scarf. "Trust me, I know the feeling. I used to have something of a problem with control." He proferred, grateful to have some kind of common touchstone with his new partner. Who know how long they would be travelling and working together before this situation with the village was complete? Still, he was grateful to be free of the whispers. They sounded too much like the voices that used to creep up on him when he least expected it. The ones that urged him to strike, and dominate. With a shake of his head he dispelled the unwelcome memories, and focussed more on the conversation he was having with this very lovely lady.

Senji followed her very obviously longing gaze toward the nearby food vendor, and his awkward smile became one of understanding. "Actually, I wouldn't mind something sweet, if you don't mind a short detour?" He questioned, gesturing brightly to the very same cart Kyo was silently pining over. A hand into his jacket produced his wallet, and he opened it with a lourish. "I'll treat you, since it's our first meeting and I expect I'll be learning a lot from you on our trip, as a senpai."

Kyo blushed lightly as Senji not only noticed where she was staring, but brought it up and even offered to pay. "Thank you, I'm afraid I do have quite a weakness for sweets." she said, grinning widely as she stood and followed him towards the cart. "I was away from Kumo for a few years recently, and I'm afraid I just never had access to sweets. Since getting back I just can't seem to get enough." she said, for a brief second her smile faltering as mind and body both remembered the torture. It was odd to realize that more than once she had wished her captors would take her body in the normal sorts of ways that corrupt and detestable men did. Instead it was her mind they ravished, teaching her far too much about the horrors of the world.

"As I lay dreaming, you shall go mad." she whispered to herself briefly, fingers touching the red scarf as if the phrase somehow would banish away the momentary dark thoughts that plagued her.

A moment later her smile had returned to her face and she looked at Senji happily. "What are some of your favorites then?" she asked him rather suddenly. "I can't seem to pick one favorite myself, I've been trying anything I can get my hands on lately."

Senji nodded in understanding. "I've loved sweet things since I was a child. I've also been, well, absent from the village for quite some time. You don't get many opportunities for dessert a couple miles underground." He replied, ending his statement with a chuckle. He found that by smiling he could force himself to be positive, at least a little, and it made thinking about the past five years he'd spent under the watchful eye of StratOs less harrowing.

The magician reached up and plucked two oversized lollipops from the cart, complete with rainbow colours swirling into the middle of the paddle-like confection. He handed one to Kyo, "But, before I had to leave, these were always my favourite. I agree that after so long without them everything is good, but something about these lollipops just feels extra nostalgic." With that he paid the vendor, thanked him for his hard work making the sweets, and started to lick at his prize. The thing was half the size of his face, but he still grinned like an idiot while he tasted it. It had been too long since he'd simply enjoyed a treat, and since he'd been provided with few opportunities to mature normally underground it was only too easy to slip back into that child-like joy of eating too much sugar.

Kyo couldn't help a bit of a childlike giggle as she accepted the lollipop from Senji. The thing was rather large and an impressive feat all to itself, she couldn't help but to take a moment to admire it as she and Senji started to step away from the cart. She took a couple licks as she saw Senji do and of course giggled once more. "This is good." she admitted, looking at Senji a moment as she mulled over a question in her head that she wasn't quite sure she wanted to ask. She told herself she was being far too curious, but some part of her also wondered if the answer to her question could also indicate an impact on their mission.

After several moments she finally asked it. "Senji.. I'm not sure if it would impact our mission so I hope you don't mind if I ask... but what had you absent from the village? Where were you?" She also knew this meant he may ask the same of her, and she had no problem with answering him if he did, though for now she waited to see what his response would be.

Something about the lollipop just kind of forced you to be happy. It wasn't necessarily the taste, the candy wasn't exactly a culinary masterpiece. The simple sweetness mixed with its colourful, bordering on abserd appearance to create the very symbol of childhood. It was childhood that he had left behind when he had been taken off the streets that day years ago. While he didn't mourn it, it made him smile to acknowledge that somewhere deep inside him that simple, happy view of the world still existed. "I got in a complicated situation, and I had to be removed from the village for a short time. In that time I lived deep underground, under guard, unable to leave, undergoing rigorous training and conditioning exercises." He said matter of factly. "They are not necessarily fond memories, but I can see now that at least some of it was necessary. Perhaps it didn't have to be as extreme as it was, but what is done is done." He finished with a sigh.

"You?" He added, looked out of the corner of his eyes while he licked at his lollipop. He had an inkling that her story was more complicated even than his own, with perhaps just as lasting consequences.

Kyo fought to keep from frowning at Senji's oddly non-answer. It certainly answered the question but in no way was there any detail or a real answer within it. It left Kyo feeling almost like she couldn't fully trust him. Veiled answers meant veiled intentions in the Jounin's mind, but she pushed the concerns aside as he naturally moved to asking her about her own experience.

"I was captured." she said, rather nonchalantly. "I had left the village to research the world in search of ways to improve my own genjutsu... I remember saying I needed to witness the horrors of the world. I suppose I got to experience them quite thoroughly instead." Kyo couldn't help an odd little giggle at the thought, shaking her head as she continued to lick her lollipop. "I don't know who they were, but they somehow used binds that negated my ninjutsu and genjutsu use, sold me to the highest bidder. I think I changed hands at least two or three times... At least once my captor had physical demands of me, but the last one did his best to drive me mad. Almost worked really... but two Konoha shinobi suddenly showed up and saved me. They went so far as to take me back to Konoha for healing, and returned me to my cousin when all was said and done." She couldn't help a grin as she looked over at Senji. "One of them was quite bashful around me, I think I had a little too much fun teasing him. If I simply touched his hand at one point he'd turn red as a tomato."

Senji nodded solemnly as Kyo replied. He felt somewhat bad about not giving her a more complete version of his story, but he wasn't sure how much of it the black mark under his tongue would allow him to talk about. He didn't want to have to explain too much about his time away, lest he anger Banri, and he didn't want to embarrass himself by nearly choking on his own tongue by attempting it. But still, a part of him wished he could have been just as honest with his new partner as she was being with him. Another part still felt a strange kinship, as they had both been locked away in darkness for years, experiencing untold horrors. Hers seemed far worse than the experimentation and beatings he had endured, and appeared to have given her some kind of tick where she repeated some kind of phrase. Even though they'd both been through hell, he still pitied her for reaching a lower circle than he.

"Well, I'm glad that you were found, and that you got to see your cousin again. And now I get to meet you as well." Senji said with just a hint of his old up-beat attitude. The candy-fuelled nostalgia had reawakened a small part of his joie-de-vivre, even with the macabre subject hanging over the two of them. It would have surely been strange to any onlooker, to see two such as them stroll cheerily through the streets speaking of torture and imprisonment with smiles on their faces. "Although, it sounds like someone else may have been gladder to meet you." Senji replied with a hint of innuendo, smirking and looking at her sideways as he considered talk of the shy man she spoke about.

Kyo couldn't help what most might see as a particularly evil giggle as Senji mentioned Fanho, though of course not by name. "I hear he's visiting soon. I think I'm going to make it my goal to see how much I can make him blush." The smirk that had come with her giggle never went away as she looked over at Senji. "Maybe I'll see if I can turn him into a complete puddle even." she added, giggling to herself once more as she shrugged and the woman realized they had gotten far off task.

"I suppose we should start making our way to the gates. I can't say I'm looking forward to this mission, but at least I seem to have good company for it." She offered Senji a smile as she started turning more towards the village's exit, knowing that as cheerful as the pair clearly were despite speaking of their personal circles of hell, that cheerfulness might not last. After all, in Kyo's case at least, she could treat her own struggles with such lighthearted demeanor, she certainly couldn't stomach seeing others go through the same sort of things without wrath rising within.

Senji chuckled back in reply to Kyo's giggles. "I might have to stick around to watch if you're going to melt the poor boy." He replied conspiratorily. It would be nice to engage in just some nice, maybe not so innocent, fun for once. So long as his work allowed. And with that, Kyo brought his attention back to the actual task at hand. His smile faded slowly as he considered the people waiting for their help.

"I agree. It's about time we get our way out there. Who knows what these poor people are going through?" Senji agreed, nodding solemnly. He gave his lollipop a quick crunch to finish it off, and flicked the stick into a nearby waste bin. He extended his left hand and space began to ripple with blue waves beside him. From the circular gate his staff dropped into existence into his hand. With his other hand he reached to take Kyo's arm. "I can get us right to the gates almost instantaneously. It might make you nauseous though, if it's your first time travelling through spatial displacement... I mean, teleportation." he finished kind of awkwardly.

As Senji finished off his lollipop, Kyo did the same, biting the sweet into oblivion though she was somewhat sad she couldn't just enjoy the rest of it as it was. Senji was right, people were waiting on them and while she was having a good time getting to know him, the pair needed to go out and help the poor souls that were likely lost without help. When he reached to take Kyo's arm she allowed it, putting a hand over his as she chuckled.

"I'll take the nausea if it means we get there quicker." she said quietly. "Perhaps it'll just be part of the adventure." she added, chuckling to herself at Senji's phrasing and correction.

Senji and Kyo leapt through space, their bodies compacted into a point no larger than a pinhead, before slipping between dimensions. Briefly the blues, pinks, purples and black of Senji's realm blossomed around them as they soared through time out of an anchor Senji had placed at the gates of the village. The pressure was enormous on all sides of them as they were forced through impossibly small spaces, and relocated by the logic of the world to a new place. With little to no travel time. Senji knew that the sheer speed and pressure that surrounded those whom experienced these types of teleportations for the first time could cause nausea, much like travelling at high speed normally does.

"Of course, every step closer is a step closer to helping them. I hope that wasn't too distressing." Senji replied when they emerged on the other side. He nodded to Kyo, solemnly, before drawing his staff out of his realm as well. He offered her a seat beside him, and they soared through the sky toward their destination.
