"Sir? You might find this interesting." A head poked around the door to Naohiro's little office in the basement of one of Kirigakure's large medical centres. Being a well-reputed medical ninja had its perks, and even if his other duties usually kept him elsewhere, it was generally in the hospital's best interests to set a little space aside for ninja such as he. He slid a marker into the spread pages of a textbook and glanced up.

"Sure, come on in, Hisui. What is it?"

"Just a report that came in from one of the district clinics last night. They had a rough night, lots of casualties from a nearby fire." The man walked over and offered a few sheets of bound paper. Naohiro took it with a frown, scanning down the front page.
"...building fire... non-critical care..." he mumbled to himself, shaking his head. "What am I looking for here? This all seems pretty sta-- oh." He paused on the second page, eyebrows rising. One of the attending medical ninja had been singled out with a glowing report from a superior, and with expert use of iijutsu had healed more than twice as many patients as any of her colleagues through the night. "..I see. Thank you, Hisui, you were right. I'll go pay this kunoichi a visit, and we'll see what potential she has."

He passed the report back, grabbed the haori hanging by the door, and strolled out. While Kirigakure had many talented ninja, there were never quite enough medical shinobi. It was worth any amount of extra time and effort to encourage and train the ones that showed potential, because every one of those would undoubtedly save many more shinobi's lives during their career.

Naohiro walked at a steady pace through the hospital and out into the mists of Kirigakure. The report put the little clinic in one of the residential districts on the other side of town--a good trek from where he was now. He hoped it'd be worth the journey. But never one to waste an opportunity, he figured he'd get a bit of a workout on the way over there anyway. That way, even if the woman he sought wasn't there, or wasn't interested in any extra tutoring, he could still justify being away from his desk for a bit. He began to jog at first, weaving through the crowds in this busy, central area of the village, and when he spotted the opening of an alleyway ahead he darted into it and, without missing a step, leapt up into one of the walls. He didn't waste the effort of using the treeclimbing technique, but instead pivoted as soon as his foot touched the wall and pushed off, up and towards the opposite building that made up the alleyway, then repeated it up and up until he shot out onto the rooftop.

Up here the air felt clearer, fresher. He breathed in deeply and smiled, then spun and burst foward into a dead sprint, kicking up dust in his wake. He smiled as he ran, leaping from rooftop to rooftop, from building sign to scaffolding, balcony to ledge. He was far from the quickest ninja around--in fact, most could probably outrun him--but this knowledge only inspired him to run a little faster. Step a little lighter, jump a little higher. He soared across the village, happy and free. He skidded to change direction and then jumped back to the ground for a while to cross an open area, then scampered back up to the rooftops again as he hit the edge of the dense residential district that housed the little medical building.

[Speed training: 324/300]
Naohiro dropped to the ground infront of the clinic, stood, and paused for a moment to present himself, re-fixing his hair and wiping a few specks of dust away from his haori before opening the door. He'd stroll up to the first person he saw who looked like they worked there and raise a hand for their attention.

"Good afternoon, I'm looking for Fujikawa-san. Is she here?"

The chime of the bell into the rather well lit, and very white, interior of the pharmacy was the only response the establishment had to Naohiro’s entry. It was empty, devoid of pretty much everybody which was normal for this time of day. People were at work or doing other business. Regardless, the interior of the pharmacy was exactly what one might expect from such a place: Clean, well lit, neatly organised shelves broken down into excellent categories determined by what region of the body the goods affected. Yet, further exploration of the store would reveal there was one person here: a crimson haired woman, sat behind the main counter, perusing a sheet of paper.

Hmmm? Fujikawa-san? Heh~ You must not know my reputation…but I will excuse your ignorance. Welcome to the Setsuko pharmacy.” She placed the paper away beneath the counter, hiding it from view not out of guilt or that she was doing anything wrong but simply because it was a confidential piece of patient information. It was poor form for anybody within the medical field, no matter if they were a famous doctor or simple pharmacist, to inadvertently allow strangers access to the medical information of another. Fujikawa’s gaze came to rest upon the fair skin and darkened hair of this potential customer.

Now, what can I do for you? Simply require some medical supplies for shinobi business?” From experience, Fujikawa knew that she got a lot of Shinobi customers. They wanted food pills, bandages, burn ointments, medical expertise, consultations, advice in assembling first aid kits and a wide variety of medical supplies that would have simply taken Fujikawa hours to go through.

Or would you like to book an appointment for a future consultation?” Fujikawa leaned forwards, resting a free arm upon the counter, using it to prop her head up. She read deeply into Aisu’s features, pursuing his form, reading the musculature, taking in the details of his expression. He was definitely a shinobi. She was convinced of that much at least.

"The Setsuko..." Naohiro's eyebrows rose just slightly as realisation hit. He hadn't even thought about checking the sign above the door outside. "Oh, my apologies, Setsuko Fujikawa." Yes, that'd been the name on the report. He gave her a slight, but polite and well practised bow.

"Actually, I have another reason for coming. I'm Naohiro, of the Aisu. I do a little work here and there at Kirigakure's central hospital, time permitting, and I was just handed a particularly interesting report. It seems you're quite the talented medical ninja?" He paused to gauge her reaction for a moment, meeting her eyes. "There's few enough of us in this village that I figure it's worth following up every lead I get when it comes to talented iijutsu users." He turned sideways and cast an eye over the otherwise empty, patient-free room. "From what I read, you've undoubtedly earned a quiet rest-day, but hear me out. What do you say to a little extra training? Show me what you can do, and I'll do the same. Perhaps we can both learn something." He smiled and raised a questioning eyebrow. He wouldn't fault her for saying no, of course, but that didn't mean he'd give up either.

Ah I see. It is a pleasure to meet you then, Naohiro of the Aisu.” Introductions done, clan name shared ad….Fujikawa honestly did not have a single clue whether the Aisu name was an important one or not. She did wish to ask which family, if any, he was bonded to but that would be playing her hand a little bit too openly, especially given how the natural and obvious response to such a thing would be for Naohiro to ask which family she was associated with. Wishing to keep such a thing a secret may have been paranoia but Fujikawa was connected to the Hirohito, a clan whose entire existence precipitated upon doing dirty work.

Then it occurred to her. Fujikawa’s initial dismissal of Naohiro’s name was an error, a lapse in judgement, a failure to remember a key part of Hirohito history: They had bound the Aisu to them through blood and marriage. It seemed interesting then that, out of everybody in the village to take an interest in Fujikawa’s medical skills, it would be one related to her own ruling family. She stepped around from behind the counter, circling the wooden construction before ultimately standing face to face with Naohiro, or at least as face to face as was possible given the difference between their height. She was taller than him by a good ten centimetres after all.

Then I suppose I may share a little tidbit. We are bound to the same family if I may guess. Myself via contract and you, I’d hazard a guess, by marriage or blood. I suppose this makes us allies of a sort? I am rather charmed that my skills, as under development as they are, have brought me a degree of attention though.” The grin on the chemist’s features now, if anything, was almost egotistical and cocky. It definitely did caress her ego in a good way to have her skills recognised by another; Fujikawa did wish to accrue as much infamy as it took to make her name a global thing after all. She viewed this as the very start of that, or perhaps more accurately the first link in her chain.

Ho? You are here to offer me additional training…? Hmmm….” That egotistical grin faded from her features, replaced with a contemplative and thoughtful look. The medical ninja brought a hand up to her chin, clutching it firmly, an eyebrow tilting upwards. She reconsidered her initial thoughts on this visitor before deciding that yes, his offering was a tempting and tantilisating one. Training at the hand of an experienced shinobi, one Fujikawa had a feeling was far superior in abilities than her? What rising star of the shinobi world wouldn’t go for such a thing?

Hmmm. Yes. I do believe I would like that…but I have no interest in learning jutsu. I’d much rather exercise my fundamentals, refining that basic control and manipulation over chakra we shinobi are so reliant upon.” If Naohiro was half as much a shinobi as Fujikawa was assuming he was, a rather big assumption based entirely on how he was important enough to get a report on Fujikawa, then he should definitely have a greater grasp of the basic than her not so humble self.

Well, obviously you’re already aware I have a degree of Ijutsu knowledge but…what you may not know is the following: I am capable of summoning, an art I am still practising with, and have the good fortune to be blessed with an elemental affinity of my own. Raiton to be exact. Both of these, especially the summoning, demand I cultivate a finer manipulation over my own chakra.” As if to demonstrate what her current level of control was at, Fujikawa’s hands danced through a series of hand signs as she unleashed a rarely used jutsu: Lightning Armanament. Electricity coated her body, breathing it in a volatile and electrifying energy yet oddly enough, the chakra flowing through her body seemed to be moving far more freely, perhaps the result of her recent intense practice with Ijutsu? It was a talent that required rather fine control over one’s own energy and movements after all.

Odd…My energies feel different today. Flowing more freely.” She backed away from the Aisu, disinterested in injuring him accidentally. She dispelled the jutsu, sitting down upon her counter, folding one shapely leg over the other. That same puzzled and thoughtful expression from before remained on her face, Fujikawa’s eyes focusing not upon her guest but upon the ground before her. Just why had she gone through an easier time of drawing her chakra out…? Then, it struck her! Ijutsu…it was a talent that demanded fine chakra control and she had been learning a lot of them lately. It only made sense that learning such new jutsu would naturally change her grasp of fundamentals. Systems were always changed by the information they took in…and what were humans but very complex organic systems?

Ah…but Fujikawa had a guest. Her focus snapped out of reverie, the revelation retreating to the depths of her mind so she may consider it later. She looked back at Hirohito, crimson eyes locking onto his blue ones, her expression transitioning to a simple and soft smile.

My apologies for that. It is a poor display for a host to ignore their guest…but as you may have summarised, I am blessed with Raiton’s lightning kiss. A curious thing given my village, no?” She wondered whether Hirohito had any insight on her theory, either confirming or denying it. It was entirely possible that she was simply just getting better in the control of chakra in general after all.

Well, well. Naohiro mused, a smirk tugging at his own lips as Fujikawa seemed to revel in his seeking her out. Seems she likes the idea of getting headhunted. She had ambition, then, and a certain amount of hubris that would always be essential when climbing the ranks of Kirigakure's military. And no wonder; he'd been just as hungry for recognition when he'd been a genin and chuunin, too. It was a motivating factor even now, when he was just starting to dip his toes into the pool of the village elite.
He nodded at her guess about his family allegience, though it was no great secret. He raised a hand to adjust his collar and briefly flashed the ring that encircled his left thumb, and his was no crude iron; the Aisu privilege was evident in the gleaming silver, unique among the Hirohito.

"Good, good," he commented when she chose to practice her general chakra control instead of a specific technique. "Too many people disregard the fundamentals, but precision control is the key to everything. Especially iijutsu, as I'm sure you're aware." He nodded and stepped back, thoughtful as she began demonstrating a technique. Raiton was a rare enough affinity among Kirigakure, but a powerful and highly offensive element when used correctly. When she was done he chimed in again. "No doubt your extensive use of medical techniques the other day have helped your control already. Next to those, something so simple as a nature transformation would feel like it takes no effort at all. Quite aside from being an essential skill, I've found iijutsu to be the perfect training tool for when you really need to get something perfectly controlled.

As if to demonstrate his point, he raised his left hand before him and paused for a moment, concentrating. His body began to glow faintly as, without the use of hand seals, he began to draw and mould chakra almost by instinct, pulling it through his body and towards his open palm. He shaped just so, carefully weaving and kneading the energy until it began to leak from his skin as the characteristic green haze of the famed mystical palm technique. He held it there for a moment, carefully increasing and decreasing the amount of chakra he was pouring into the technique. Enough to rapidly heal almost any injury short of death itself, it was one of the most prized and famous techniques of a medical ninja--but also one generally reserved for only the most capable due to its complexity and ravaging effect on one's own chakra reserves. He could feel that drain already, the hungry technique pulling more and more from his bodily energy pool, but he held it going all the same.

"Control is one thing, and surely the most important part of your arsenal. But don't neglect building up your chakra reserves themselves, either. They go hand in hand, complementing and enhancing one another." He let the technique fade, then channeled again as he prepared another, second technique in his other hand. He relished the ecstatic rush of chakra as it flowed through him and quickly formed into a small orb of suiton, sitting neatly in the cup of his fingers. He let it spin for a moment, propelled by a tiny eddie of chakra spun out by one finger, then brought in his other hand to cover the orb.
"Since you've shown me your raiton, i'll be courteous and let you see our Gift."
He glowed then for a third time, and when he removed the covering hand, revealed a miniature whirlpool of ice that had been flash-frozen in the midst of its turbulent spinning. He turned it slowly, letting it catch the light and refract a hundred colours across the walls of the clinic, then smiled and let it crumble to dust.

"Well, then. It seems to me we share some talents, and differ in others. As it happens, I wouldn't mind seeing more of that raiton. What else can you do?" He'd once been on the receiving end of a particularly brutal raiton barrage, and a none-too-small part of him badly wanted to face it again and find a way to overcome it. But he pulled his eyes away from the sparking technique and glanced around to room, then back to Fujikawa. "But perhaps this isn't the best place for it, huh. Can't have us destroying your lovely little clinic. Shall we head outside?"

Do they now? You would imagine the instructors at the academy would try and breed out such an attitude… That said, I suppose people and their penchant for rumours do create the impression that shinobi must specialise in something to gain a level of infamy.” The chemist smiled with smug satisfaction as she was proven to be correct. Naohiro and herself did share a family, even if they were not linked by blood. Excellent really. Still, that was not the focus of this meeting was it? Training. Improvement. Advancement. Those concepts were…well those and Fujikawa’s own rather deeply set hunger for power.

Hm. Curious. I merely picked it up at the suggestion of one of the academy’s tutors, well my academy’s tutors. They seemed to notice that I had a certain aptitude for Ijutsu and I decided to explore it. It has turned out to be a useful skill. My entire business here would not be as…successful without such insight.” That cheeky grin remained upon her face…no that was not quite right. It grew in intensity, dominating her face, punctuated only by her letting out an amused chuckle yet her entertainment was swiftly replaced by intense curiosity.

Mystical palm….Hah. Clearly, you exceed my ability in Iijutsu…good. I would not be accepting one with lesser skill as a teacher.” She leaned in close, eyes watching the green energy closely, learning everything that she could from her simple observations. The chemist had never once actually seen the Mystical Palm in person, only ever reading about it and hearing second hand accounts from tutors at the academy. It may not have been one of the top tier academies in the village but it was good enough to set Fujikawa on her path.

Hmmm….yes. That is a valid point.” All the control in the world was meaningless if one lacked the raw reserves of energy to actually power their jutsu. That was another fundamental, one which was fortunately simpler to improve than raw control. Control came with experience and a simple raw investment of time in practising with all forms of chakra manipulation but chakra reserves and how you raised them through physical and spiritual training? That was one of the first things Fujikawa had learned in the academy.

Suiton and manipulation over ice? As well as medical jutsu? My my my. You really are the complete package. I’m rather jealous~” Ah…then came the awkward question. What else could Fujikawa do? Raiton, Iijutsu and the summoning arts were really the only stand out parts of her skill repertoire. She did have those staples of walking on water and trees, or vertical surfaces in general actually, under her belt but they were hardly interesting or even that uncommon; in fact water walking was definitely not uncommon given the very nature of Kirigakure.

Well….I suppose I could introduce you to my summon but not here. As you say, it would not be proper to simply damage my clinic. One must make a living after all.” She nodded in acknowledgment, leading her guest out of the clinic into the streets, locking the door and shutting the wooden shutters behind them. The drugs in her store were rather valuable things and had, many times in the past, proven to be a tempting target for thieves.

Shall we go then? I’ll even show you some more of my raiton when we arrive…unless my summon interests you more. Ehehehehehehe.” Her chuckle was knowing and malicious, tinged with hidden knowledge that brought the chemist a great deal of amusement. She knew from her own experiences that her summon, in all his terror and might, was an unexpected surprise. Fujikawa led the way to the training ground, taking the opportunity to walk up some walls or across surfaces of water. It was entirely self-indulgent showing off on her part but you know what? She felt a little shown up by her guest and was determined to demonstrate exactly why she was to be respected.

The duo would eventually, after moving through streets, up walls and over water, make their way to the training grounds. They were exactly as they always were, a wide expanse of varied terrain essentially devoid of anybody except Fujikawa and Naohiro which was preferable really. The chemist rarely liked to reveal her skills to random strangers, at least not unless she had a very good reason for it as was the case with her would-be teacher. She turned back towards him, a cocky and arrogant grin paired with that excited glint in her eyes. The question on the tip of her tongue was exactly the same as before: What would Naohiro like to see?

Naohiro smiled. "Oh, they try. But training doesn't stop after the academy, and when your doctrine encourages ambition and strength... Well, sometimes reaching for power above and beyond your comfort zone can be forgiven. Besides, they either catch up and master the basics sooner or later, or else they don't make it as shinobi," he shrugged. Kirigakure was hardly a forgiving place for a student, and what Fuji said about seeking infamy and specialty was certainly true.

"Certaintly. After you." He agreed to leave the clinic with her once their conversation had finished, and followed by her side as they the village towards her selected training area. He channeled very briefly as they walked, wrapping a small web of carefully controlled fuuton chakra beneath his feet, allowing him to float just an inch or so above the ground. He otherwise made no comment and followed quietly along with her as she scaled walls, buildings, and crossed water as if it were solid land. These were the sort of fundamentals that were important to master, and keep mastered, so that they could be relied upon in by instinct during the tension of combat. His own technique took the basic water walking and tree climbing technique a step further by levitating him just a little away from the ground, barely enough to notice, while still requring the precise control and finesse of the base jutsu. He continued channeling across the whole trip, even when they moved across regular terrain, just as to practice maintaining the technique for long periods and while moving. Compared to the iijutsu he'd shown off earlier the chakra drain here was just a trickle, but he could still feel it slowly drawing from his energy.

"Well, although I would like to see your raiton, you've piqued my interest with your talk of summoning, too. I don't believe I personally know any others in the village that do that, though of course you hear rumours here and there." He gave her an encouraging nod as they arrived in the training grounds, finally allowing his Wind Skating technique to fizzle out and put him back in contact with the ground. Fuji had mentioned her summoning twice now, so clearly it was a point of pride for her, which only helped build the suspense. He walked out across the field then turned back to face Fuji.

"Alright. Show me what you've got! Give me your best shot!" He grinned, encouraging her to start a friendly spar with him, though he'd hold back if needs be. With both of them capable medics, neither should get too badly hurt. Although, if she preferred to simply practise or demonstrate her techniques instead of fighting with them, he would happily watch that too.

Raiton it is then.” If Raiton, the very kiss of the skies and the gods above, was what Naohiro wished to see then lighting was what he would see! The chemist did regret that she was probably not going to put on that grand a showing, given her relative inexperience but she supposed there was an advantage of sorts to that: She would be a lot less likely to seriously injure her current teacher. Was it a little arrogant to believe such a thing was even possible? Perhaps…perhaps…but Fujikawa knew the dangers electricity posed to the human body, especially when it was from a jutsu actively designed to injure and wound.

The chemist backed away, putting a good twenty five metres between herself and Naohiro, hoping to bait him into charging her and running straight into the jutsu she had planned. Range was her advantage currently for she, much to her chagrin, was yet to really begin travelling down the path of taijutsu. That is not to say she had absolutely no close ranged options. She did have one up her sleeve but it would be better to keep that a secret for now, a surprise to bust out if it came to hand to hand combat. In fact…yes. Fujikawa believed she had a good chance of catching Naohiro off guard if she pretended to have no close range options.

Fujikawa’s fingers danced, forming into a series of rapid hand signs. Ox. Dragon. Horse. Boar. Snake. Chakra flowed throughout her body, an electrical tingle causing her body hair to stand on ends, circling around and around, building up power before releasing. The chemist held her palm towards Naohiro, realising an electrical pulse from it, the wave of energy extending outwards towards the water and ice user. If it hit, and if it even took effect at that, the pulsing wave would shock and make Naohiro feel slower, his muscles locking up due to the electricity tampering with nerve signals.

Are you satisfied? Or would you like to experience more of raiton’s stunning kiss? Bahahahhaha.” A hearty laugh erupted from her lips as she threw her head back, a certain degree of amusement at own rather bad pun. Ah….she could not deny a certain level of amusement at a good bad pun. Just in case what she assumed was a demonstration turned out to not be such a thing, the medical ninja prepared another jutsu, chakra building up within her limbs.

Chakra seeped from her feet, radiating into the ground, a twenty five metre zone of energy extending outwards. Lighting would crackle upon the surface of the ground and, the moment anybody stepped upon it, would activate. The trap, if you could call it such a thing, would apply on top of that pulsing wave Fujikawa had unleashed, applying an additional shocking lockdown as well as actual damage. The medical ninja knew she was likely to be completely outmatched in this conflict but in that case, the answer was simple: Weaken your enemy to close the gap between the two of you.

Naohiro felt excitement beginning to build as this new acquaintance took the field opposite him, putting a careful distance between them. She didn't bat an eyelid at the idea of sparring someone a tad more experienced than herself; just the atttiude he wanted to see in a ninja. Anything that the woman lacked seemed more than made up for with attitude and ambition; it made him curious to why she hadn't already risen to higher ranks. Perhaps he'd look into that later. But for now he shook the thought away and readied himself for the upcoming bout.

She began immediately, weaving into a set of handseals. He tried to watch her movements, identifying and counting the seals, but it wasn't a technique he was familiar with, and he was far enough away that the exact shape of some was hard to make out. Instead, he began moving, running parallel to her and curving around to stay roughly at the same 25 metres distance. He's demonstrated already that he was a ninjutsu user, so a ranged fight would be playing directly into his strengths. But on the other hand, this could be an opportunity to improve his skills in close quarters combat, too. He changed course and darted back the other way after a moment, moving as quickly and erratically as he could while waiting for her to make the first move in the fight, hoping to see her strategy.

He changed direction a second time and sprinted inwards towards Fujikawa just as she finished preparing her first technique. The bolt of raiton surged towards him, but with the decent range between them and his own speed relative to that of the technique he was easily able to dart to the side and avoid it before continuing to run towards her. He was quickly closing the distance as her second technique finished, and he prepared to dive or roll out of the way of another strike--but the attack instead came indirectly, surging out into the entire area around him. He leaped into the air out of instinct as the ground began to spark in a wave towards him. Although that helped him avoid the first pulse of the technique, as soon as he landed the all-to-familiar jolt of raiton shot up into his feet and legs. He skidded to the side, now about 10 metres away from his target, legs tingling and beginning to grow numb from the feet up which threw off his footing every time he stepped.

Clever, he thought, beginning to weave a rapid set of his own handseals from where he stood. It was a simple technique, completed in the blink of an eye. I'll just have to avoid the ground then! A pulse of fuuton chakra began to form around his feet, and he crouched down before launching into a jump. As he did so, a small detonation of wind from the soles of his feet threw him forward and up, shooting him through the air much faster than he'd been running before. He sailed in an arc directly towards Fuji. He spun as he moved, making himself a smaller target and also aiming his legs down towards her chest; if he hit, he intended to kick her to the ground and land standing atop her, to see whether her own technique would affect her if she didn't dispel the area. Though he wasn't terribly strong, he'd be careful not to kick too hard if he hit, so as to avoid any serious damage. The fight was only just beginning, and the last thing he wanted was to end it immediately.

Staying at range? Yeah that was fine. Fujikawa had options for dealing with range. A few options in fact. The confident and cocky, almost arrogant, smirk on her face was an undeniably strong thing. Still, her confidence and arrogance aside she was a little perturbed her opponent was staying at the range of twenty five metres. Did he know her jutsu by experience? Was he experienced with Raiton? That would make sense, given his displayed usage of ice and by extension water jutsu. Lighting was the weakness of water after all and any Shinobi with half a brain would absolutely do their homework to try and come up with clever tactics to resolve such a weakness.

Yet, suddenly Fujikawa’s opponent changed direction, dashing towards her to turn it from a ranged conflict to a hand to hand one. Hah. Was that the game he wanted to play? Fujikawa, despite her lack of training in taijutsu, did actually have a few solutions in mind for that. Two in fact, both of which were jutsu of the Raiton nature as well. Sadly, even though the chemist did have some tricks up her sleeve there was one thing she had to admit one thing: Naohiro was faster than her. That much was clear to her. It was a gap in physical ability between the two of them she would need to try and resolve were she to have any chance of coming out of this spar in a good light.

Yet, as Fujikawa unleashed the second of her jutsu she was rather glad to see Naohiro launched himself upwards into the air, propelled by that current of wind from his feet. Oh yeah. That put the ball in her court. Short of using some form of jutsu to move in mid air or hover, the chemist had a sneaking suspicion her opponent would have to land on the ground eventually or at the very least, his aerial mobility would be utterly non-existent which led her to one main conclusion: He was a sitting duck. To take advantage of this, she yet again danced through a series of hand signs. Snake, horse, ram, monkey, dragon. Chakra welled up within her fingers and then, she pointed two of them towards the falling Naohiro.

A trio of orbs, each of which consisted of cackling barely controlled electricity, launched from the tips of her fingers. They flew through the air towards Naohiro just as he landed upon the ground…and then launched himself skywards again, via a brief eruption of wind from his feet. Tch….that was exactly what she had been hoping Naohiro couldn’t do. Possessing a level of aerial mobility like that gave him yet another advantage and it showed, as the spinning motion Naohiro employed resulted in that trio of orbs she launched simply missing him. This puit Fujikawa in a tough spot…she knew she did not have time to launch a counter offence….so…it was time to put on a strong defence!

With Naohiro diving down towards her, and that gap between the two of them growing shorter by the moment, Fujikawa had to swiftly dance through another series of hand signs. Ram, horse, snake, dragon, tiger. She barely, and I do mean barely, managed to get it done just in time. Fujikawa’s body was enwreathed in lighting, soon enough to at least offer her some token resistance but having eaten up so much time she had absolutely no chance of dodging the incoming blow or doing anything to try and reduce the impact. The medical ninja found herself knocked to the ground, with Naohiro on top of her but that was fine. It would at least invoke damage from the lighting her form was wrapped with and, maybe, apply yet more damage from the zone of lighting upon the ground.

Heh. Baby please, if you wanted to play dirty like this you should have said. I would have prepared drinks to loosen us up and slipped into something more comfortable.” Even though the circumstances were most definitely not in her favour, she had to hope that the combined effects of Voltic Zone and Lighting Armament would force him to get off her and give her an opportunity to counter attack. Sadly, she could feel her chakra reserves running out and knew that, at the rate at which she was unleashing jutsu, knew her reserves would not last for much longer.

Still, this was an opportunity for Fujikawa. Even pinned down on the ground she had a rather delightful and devious little trick up her mind: a kiss. She had absolutely no idea how easily Naohiro was thrown off his game he was, but psychological and emotional warfare were just as valid and fair as any other jutsu or tactic. Striking at the opponent’s mind, either directly through the wide variety of genjutsu that existed in the world, or indirectly through psychological warfare and other equal tactics. Heh. Who cared for honour and respecting your opponent? If Fujikawa had to break all the rules and fight dirty to close the gap in ability between herself and Naohiro…then she would absolutely do that! A hundred times over! A thousand! As many as it’d take! Time waited for nobody!

Hm…has anyone told you that you’re rather good looking?” And suddenly, with her Lighting Armament still active, she would attempt to grab his collar, pull him down towards her and plant a kiss on his face….before following it up with an attempted head butt, hopefully following it up with her pushing him off her, rolling to the side and jumping back up to her feet. It was after her attempt at regaining her footing succeeded, if it succeeded anyway, that she would do the one thing she should have done already: remove her cape. Undoing the clips holding it to her shoulders allowed it to fall to the ground, bundling up naturally and removing a weakness.

Naohiro's kick landed with a satisfying smack as it made contact, pummelling his opponent down towards the ground. But his joy at the successful strike abruptly soured as the familiar shock of another raiton technique burst through the contact on his leg, shooting up the limb and taking him by surprise. Though the impact would've rocked Fuji as he kicked her to the floor, she'd countered nicely even without needing to dodge or block. She lay on the ground beneath him wreathed in crackling energy, and as he stood there the previous technique continued to bite at him through the ground. She seemed unaffected by lying on the same area as it ate away at his feet and up his legs, the combined shock from her armament and the zone sending waves of pain up into and through him.

"This damn raiton..." he muttered, scowling and shaking his head. He should've known better, could have fought smarter—even though he was intentionally acting rashly both to make the spar more exciting and to work on his apparent weaknesses. Facing down raiton was more and more one of those, and he had to work to ignore the tingling effects as well as the growing pain. When Fuji spoke, he at first he ignored her teasing, but when she reached up to grab his collar in what seemed to be a rather... unusual taijutsu technique, he twigged her intent and instead began forming an idea of his own. Two could play at this game, raiton or no raiton.

He had to endure yet more of the spreading, shocking numbness as her lips touched his face, but when she then tried to draw back for a headbutt, he quickly moved his own head aside and brought his arms in beneath her, behind her back and around her torso, locking her arms by her sides at the same time. His whole body was beginning to grow numb from the constant flow of raiton, but he'd have to suffer through it for just a moment longer.
"Don't get distracted, now." He whispered into her ear, then suddenly twisted and lifted, got a foot underneath himself and hoisted her up into the air. He paused only for a moment to capture her expression before throwing her bodily towards the ground several metres away.

Finally back on his feet and free from contact with the lightning, he leapt backwards and away from Fuji, chanelled briefly while in the air and repeated one of the fuuton techniques he'd first used while they were travelling away from the clinic. When he landed, he skidded on a small bed of air beneath his feet that allowed him to hover, just slightly, and avoid contact with the ground that was still visibly crackling. He jumped back a bit further to open the distance to about 5 metres, then readied himself in a fighting stance for whatever the woman would try next. They'd exchanged a few blows and burned up a bit of chakra—if the fight continued it would certainly become more interesting still as they began to improvise.

Tch. Of course the head butt had not worked. Fujikawa knew it was an obvious and easily read move but she had been hoping what she prefaced it with would distract Naohiro’s focus just enough for him to not catch on. That had not happened obviously but on the other hand, the chemist knew she had technically succeeded in another regard: Her kiss had been a delivery mechanism for the shocking effects of the lighting her form was enwreathed in, especially given how Naohiro had not decided to put some distance between the duo. On the defensive she may have been but Fujikawa absolutely would not go down without a fight. Heh. This was fun! Stimulating! The level and scope of ability Naohiro displayed was something she absolutely wanted for herself.

Still, despite her limited success in applying some rather, heh, shocking effects to Naohiro Fujikawa still found herself trapped in a bear hug and then, after a brief meeting of eyes with her opponent, launched through the air. Her expression had remained as cocky and arrogant as ever but there were definitely signs of fatigue in her face. Sweat on her forehead mainly but also just a general tiredness in her eyes. Such intensive use of chakra and so many jutsu all at once was definitely taking its toll on her and, given how she was very swiftly running out of options, the chemist decided to simply deactivate all of her jutsu.

The lighting coating her form was wrapped in and the field upon the ground dissipated, vanishing into thin air, idle crackles of energy ceasing as everything returned to normal. Flying through the air, towards a tree no less, Fujikawa knew she was simply utterly and completely outmatched in terms of physical ability, and most likely jutsu too….no. Definitely. She was definitely out matched in that regard. Fujikawa had already witnessed Futon release and Ice release. Two elements, of such varying natures, gave Naohiro a massive advantage and so she knew, deep down, that it was entirely possible he had more natures up his sleeve. He had said he possessed Suiton release as well.

Alright. If this is the corner you’ve pushed me into, then I suppose we must even the scales huh?” She reached her hand out behind her, grasped a tree branch and used it to spin in the air, ending up standing atop it. The scales needed to be evened. That was her only chance at winning. Even though this may have been a simple spar between comrades of the same village, Fujikawa absolutely wanted to win. Her competitive streak demanded she do nothing less than ensure total and absolute victory. She reached down into one of the many pouches she wore, the one on her right leg to be exact, and withdrew a single kunai. It was a simple matter to prick her own finger, letting a decent stream of blood trickle freely.

She cut one of her sleeves free, revealing a summoning contract seared into her right arm’s very flesh, before drawing up the last of her chakra reserves and channelling them entirely into the only hand she had left to play: Papiyas Metamorphosis.

I told you summoning is a trick I have cultivated and now….ahahahaha….ahahahaha!” She could barely restrain her excitement! Her amusement! Her energy! Oh this was going to be monumentally hilarious! The medic rolled her neck, loosened muscles and swiped a single line of blood down the marks on her arm then put her hands together. She leapt down from the branch and thrust her right hand onto the soil.

The reaction was an immediate and explosive thing. Heat erupted from the ground as letters, emblazoned in flame, spread out from the point Fujikawa’s limb touched the earth. Moments later, a portal ripped itself open and out from that came a single giant skeletal arm and then another…and another….and another until six in total had appeared. These six pulled rested upon the ground, pulling the main skeletal body and skull from the portal until it towered over the region. It stood at twenty five metres with Fujikawa standing upon its right shoulder.

Fujikawa…..you summon me to battle. Fine…but you know the price to pay.” Fujikawa could only sigh at that, dismissively shaking her head before gesturing towards Naohiro and then sitting down. Of course she knew the price…it was burned into her arm after all. One day, someday, she would need to assist The last of her chakra, at least without losing consciousness or facing death, had been expended in summoning Papiyas. The skeleton raised all six of his arms before throwing his head back in a fearsome and terrible laugh.

Yeah….my soul shall replace your’s on death and you shall get a body of your own. It’s seared into my arm you know? Did you really think I would forget….” The tone of her voice was heavy and serious, her expression neutral and devoid of the energy it had displayed before. Exhaustion was clinging to her form and, sadly, she could simply not muster much energy beyond simply observing at this point.

Naohiro hung back and waited while Fuji recovered from his throw and planned her next move, content to give her the chance to show off the extent of her powers. So far he'd been impressed—she was, as claimed, talented with both iijutsu and raiton. He paced a little as she caught herself on a branch, then hopped up and down a few times to try restore the lost sensation in his feet and legs. The numb cheek he could ignore, but he needed to rely on his feet moving as he intended in the heat of the moments to come.

"Even the scaled, huh?" He grinned, spreading his arms wide. "That's what I want to see! Hit me with your best, Setsuko-san!" His excitement for the fight hadn't dulled yet, but was instead stoked further by the adrenaline that was starting to pump through his veins. Her skills were nothing short of remarkable for a genin, and if she approached the rest of her career with as much passion as she'd shown today, he had zero doubts that her rank would soon catch up to a more suitable level. One day not too long from now, this woman would be force to be reckoned with.

But if he was excited, she seemed to be even moreso as her laughter rose towards a fever pitch as she prepared another technique and leaped from the tree. Naohiro watched with extreme interest as her arm hit the ground and a triggered a wide circle to appear from nowhere. Unlike the earlier raiton, he did recognise this technique, the spiritualism method of summoning—but he'd never quite seen one like this before. The portal and the beast that rose from it were otherwordly and terrifying, shocking him where he stood.

"What in the hell is that..." he muttered to himself, and instinctively began to draw chakra ready to mould for a technique. This was something else, something utterly foreign and unexpected. "..And how the hell did she summon it?" He watched as the six-armed skeletal beast, sitting half emerged from the portal as if it couldn't fit the rest of itself through, followed Fuji's laughter with its own. The woman herself, perched on the beast's shoulder, seemed content to sit by and let it fight on her behalf; by now she would surely be flagging, especially after summoning such a thing. How long could she maintain it for?

With that thought at the forefront of his mind he launched into action, beginning to channel and mould chakra as he ran and jumped backwards to open the distance between himself an the giant skeleton beast. He completed the simple technique in short order, forming five small orbs of swirling fuuton on his left hand. He fired four immediately, two shooting towards centre-mass on the skeleton and one more slightly offset to either side, aiming to hit the creature even if it tried to move left or right to dodge. Could the thing even move? It was so large that it was an easy target regardless. The last orb he kept ready to fire, waiting to see how the thing reacted to the first four.

After releasing the jutsu he stopped retreating, putting himself about 25 metres away. Mid-range was his ideal territory, giving him time to react to attacks while still having lots of offensive options himself. Unlike against Fuji, he felt no need to pull his punches this time. Although his chakra reserves were not unlimited, so he couldn't be too reckless even so.

I’ll…tell you…over Sake.” Fujikawa’s breathing was heavy, her stamina drained, her chakra gone. She’d poured the last of her energy into summoning Papiyas, having given him absolutely everything she could muster in one wild and last ditch effort to come out on top. Do not disappoint Papiyas….you were the only trump card she had that stood even the slightest chance of battling Naohiro on even footing. Fujikawa genuinely regretted not summoning him sooner but that would have been against the spirit of this training exercise, no? Still, for the medical ninja she genuinely did not care about training at this point. She wanted to win! Her competitive streak had quite simply taken control of her wants.

Do not dare flee from me MORTAL. I once made the entire world tremble before my armies!” Papiyas channelled chakra in response, flames lashing up his form, licking and leaping from the portal before forming into six snapping, biting, twisting and flying serpents of flame; all done without a single hand sign too. The serpents converged on Naohiro, surrounding him on all sides (above and below as well) before diving onto him. They would bite, snap, snarl and lash out, seeking to coil around, crush and bite the Aisu shinobi. They totally and utterly ignored the bullets of air that had been launching, having darted around them with a grace at odds with their brutal levels of aggression.

Yet, the one who could not ignore the incoming projectiles was Papiyas himself. With three of his arms, one from the left and two from the right, he grabbed a nearby mighty oak…and ripped it from the ground. He swung the tree like a club, in a wide arc that attempted to smash against all of the incoming orbs. The tree may have simply been blown into splinters by the raw power of those wind bullets but it was good enough to keep them away. The skeletal construct simply discarded the tree and then, by slamming its arms onto the ground, it began to move. It pulled its form forwards, dragging the portal (and by extension itself) close enough to Naohiro to attack.

Papiyas sought to take advantage of the attacking serpents by smashing its hands together against Naohiro, acting at odds with its summoner’s wishes by seeking to actually injure Naohiro. That was the main risk to using Papiyas. It was a vengeful beast, an angry and cursed revenant, its rage having long since eroded any noble values or beliefs Papiyas may have once held. He had even forgotten his name and why he was standing here holding his blade….Wait…had he held a blade once?...Memories were foggy and difficult for Papiyas, the erosure of time and the burning fury in his heart made it so that was the case.

Papiyas….do not try to injure him. This is not to the death. My last resort you may be, but this is a simple training session, even if I do wish to grasp an undeniable victory. Plus…he will be useful to that.” Fujikawa whispered that last bit yet beyond the simple and rather weak admonishment, there was very little Fujikawa could do to stop Papiyas from overdoing it; unless she dismissed him back to that searing hell he was imprisoned in but that was something she was loath to do.

The medical ninja did want to win after all. She had to win! She did not care for the gap in ability between herself and Naohiro. She did not care about the gap between their ranks. She did not care about anything except establishing herself as his better! Ahahahaha! As drained dof chakra as Fujikawa was, she did still have one option up her sleeve: ninja tools. She grabbed a handful of Shurikan from their pouch and splayed them out in her hand, ready to throw just in case there was a good opportunity for them to be an annoyance.

It's Katon now, is it? Naohiro felt a grin creep across his face as the fight became more and more interesting. It was almost becoming more than a friendly spar as both he and Fujikawa found ways to test themselves and each other with each attack, and the thrill of the fight threatened to take them both. Luckily for Nao, he'd faced a katon user before; his old rival and teammate, Kinsue, had been an expert user. What's more, Nao's own blood held the perfect counter and in several forms. Against raiton he had a limited arsenal, but against katon he fared much, much better. He fired off the last fuuton orb directly towards Fuji as she sat atop the giant skeleton to free up his concentration—he didn't intend to give her too much freedom to sit and rest—then began channeling another technique while running backwards to give himself some more room and time to finish.

As the six fiery serpents closed in, surrounding him on all directions, Naohiro waited until they were too close to miss before stamping his foot down into the ground, cracking its surface. From the broken terrain gushed forth a vast torrent of water, all chakra-laden suiton, which burst high up into the sky to mushroom far overhead. He let it rise around him, drenching him and carrying him upwards within the pillar as the array of katon snake projectiles puffed harmlessly away into the surging water. Surrounded by the water, he'd be protected from all directions until he burst out on top of the pillar and stood atop the crescent.

But the technique was more than a simple defence, as the flood continued to torrent upwards from the ground. Soon the whole terrain would be covered by the water, limiting the area in which the giant skeleton could move freely as well as giving the Aisu special jounin ample ammunition for follow-up attacks. Without any delay he began weaving hand seals for one such counter, fingers a blur as they met again and again amid the shower of water raining around him.

A moment later a large dragon head burst from the pillar of the geyser, opening its maw to give a roar almost as intimidating as the one from Papiyas earlier. Following the head came a long, sinuous body, all formed from a raging twister of water that looked easily capable of pulling in and trapping anything it bit into. Although the water dragon was probably one of the more iconic suiton techniques, it remained a force to be reckoned with, particularly when used from such an ideal vantage. But as the creature formed, Naohiro decided there would be a better vantage still, and leaped from the top of the geyser to land atop the back of the dragon's neck where it joined the neck.

Balanced carefully on top but poised in case he needed to jump aside, he unleashed the dragon and rode it as it surged towards the great skeleton summon on a direct collision course towards its head. Naohiro kept himself ready as he rode; he didn't really expect the dragon to connect on its first pass, but if it seemed like it was going to he'd be ready to jump. And if it didn't, he was in a good position to redirect it and try again, or position himself somewhere new...

That gnawing sense of inevitable defeat Fujikawa had been trying to stave off was now staring her in the face and she knew she could not do anything about it. The last Fuuton orb may have been swatted out of the air by Papiyas, blocked by one of his skeletal fists. Sadly, as the flaming serpents came within reach of their target, they found themselves fizzling out, extinguished by the sudden eruption of a pillar of water. The pillar carried Naohiro upwards, putting him on an equal height with Fujikawa which was…a little bit annoying. Very annoying in fact. She had wanted to maintain a sense of superiority but alas.

Of far greater concern, was the sheer amount of water that now flooded the training ground. It gave Naohiro a great advantage, a simply massive amount of raw material that he could manipulate freely to fuel jutsu and if that was not bad enough, it also served the secondary function of slowing down Papiyas movements. Then came the giant dragon, a huge construct of water that bore down upon Fujikawa and her summon. The medical ninja could only grit her teeth as she leapt from Papiyas to a nearby tree.

Your assistance is appreciated Papiyas…but unfortunately, it seems we have both reached our limit.” And at that moment, what little chakra Fujikawa had been able to feed to her summon was extinguished, burned up by maintaining their presence and that one jutsu it had managed to unleash; although that was not the only reason her summon suddenly departed. A small part of the medical ninja did know she was simply outmatched and begrudgingly had to admit such a fact. She leaped from the head of her dematerialising summon, landing upon one of the taller trees to stay above the water.

Hmmmm I suppose we shall simply call this here? In truth, if I use even one simple jutsu I will be losing consciousness.” She sat down upon the branch of the tree, watching the water dragon circle around where her summon had been, unsure of where this engagement would go now. She had lost after all, mostly due to exhaustion and her own reserves being depleted, but hopefully she had at least put on a good showing.

New prospects

Naohiro commanded the dragon surge onward, increasing its speed as he witnessed the effect the rising waters were having on the giant skeleton, and Fujikawa's abandonment of the creature's shoulder. With her out of its path, he didn't need to hesitate. He smiled, bracing himself to leap free as soon as the dragon impacted and bringing his hands together to deliver a final, follow-up technique to hammer home his attack—but then the moment of collision came and passed. The water dragon roared, surging into the space left by the giant skeleton as it dissipated right before the two creatures contacted. Naohiro frowned. Perhaps the creature, despite its apparent bloodlust, knew it couldn't survive him. Or perhaps Fuji's chakra had finally run out, and he glanced around to relocate her and check.

He spotted her as she moved to sit, quite exposed, on a tree branch. She did seem weary, though it was difficult to see from his moving vantage point. Instead of continuing his attack, he allowed the dragon to circle once, then spin around in a u-turn and pass again, slower. She still didn't attack. Well, then, I suppose we're done.

He brought the dragon low to the ground and, slowing it further, hopped free from its neck. He landed on the ground mid-stride and allowed the creature to burst into a shower of rain around him, drizzling down onto a ground still pooling with the water that had cascaded down from his earlier geyser, which was just dying out itself. Soon enough, the roaring sound of his suiton techniques was gone entirely, leaving only that of the gentle drizzle falling around him. He strolled slowly through it towards Fuji's location in the tree, then offered her a small bow, an inclination of the head in acknowledgement of her efforts.

"Well fought, Setsuko-san. I did not expect such power, and believe that this is just a shred of what you'll be capable of one day soon." He paused, taking a moment to still his own breathing. Though the fight itself had not been difficult given the difference their current strengths, he'd been pouring out technique after technique for some time now to test the depths of his chakra pool.
"Thank you for entertaining me this afternoon. I'll be watching your career with great interest. And remember, Kirigakure's hospitals are never short of work should you decide to stop in. I recommend it, even just for a little experience." He sincerely hoped she continued to study her medical jutsu, for those were ninja in constant demand.

"And with that, I think I shall take my leave." And give her a chance to recover and mull over their short fight without him watching. Unless she stopped him, he'd turn and raise a hand, waving as he began walking away, performing a final brief channel to raise himself up onto the water's surface. "Should you ever wish to learn a thing or two more, come find me. You've earned as much."
