Jinsei gave a smile to his team as he dropped his piece on the floor and then dropped fierce punch on it that shattered it into tiny pieces. He then looked back up to his team with a serious look.
"The lesson is, you can't win everything. I don't say this to discourage you all or that you should give up on things, but only to give you a reality check. I've seen a lot of genin, and even chuunin or jounin, that believe that they can always get the task done. On time or another, they get a wake up call. Whether it be that mission where they lose their best friend, or never make it back. Sometimes you will lose so prepare yourself for it. I used this little mock mission as an example. Your goal was to get the elephant, but mine was simply not to let you have it so I could've blown the thing to kingdom come and you would've never succeeded. Now", he said taking a step forward and feeling a sharp pain in his foot, "Go clean yourselves up properly. I gotta go take a rest. You sons of bitches did a number on me."
Jinsei went over to the tree he was laying under and laid down. He then slowed down his chakra flow and made a hand seal to dispel the genjutsu on his feet.
"Oh, and by the way, your team name is Shikaki. Meet up here tomorrow." Jinsei then began to doze off.

Kira thanked Katsumi for healing him and walked over to Jinsei, and bowed a little. "Thank you sensei I think that I understand." Kira raised his head knowing that he can not win everything but he will always try his best for his team. This is just the way he is he will not fail them, he will do it for his mother. Kira remembered her and thought that she would be proud of him, then realized that she was gone so he ran off to go home and collect himself.

Shinju fought the urge to pick up the shards, present them to Jinsei, and demand the technique he promised them. She discretely removed the glass piece from her vest, and tucked it in her equipment pouch; it couldn't hurt to have a souvenir. Her face flushed bright red as she stood there, remembering all of the impolite, boyish, un-ladylike things she had done to keep the elephant shard.
'Wow. Never again, I hope.'
Shinju bowed low and thanked Katsumi profusely for her healing help.
"It was very nice of you to do that, Nara-chan. I also appreciated your cooperation in fulfilling our objective."
Shinju bowed to the partially sleeping sensei, "See you tomorrow, Takahara-Sensei."
After saying her goodbyes, she packed up any extra weapons she'd left laying in the clearing.

Katsumi stared at Jinsei with surprise. What a cruel thing to do...and after all their hard work! But she hadn't even done her part in getting a piece, so when she saw the other two accept his lesson, she swallowed her pride. She glanced at Shinju as she walked away, and then back to Jinsei. She turned to go, but paused briefly and thought for a second, chewing her lip.
Then, she turned back to Jinsei and bowed...although she was a bit mad that he had thwarted their team not once but twice, despite the fact that they had clearly earned the win, she still showed respect to the man and let her disappointment go.
Hey, maybe they hadn't technically succeeded, but the team was great and to her, they were all winners. She could remember all the great moments during the battle. Kira spewing a torrent of water to propel himself into the air, herself guiding his hand with a technique that wasn't even meant to be used on an ally, and Shinju having the perfect energy to support her comrades at one moment and transition beautifully to taking the initiative and jumping high into the air despite the danger. She was so proud of the team but felt a little disappointed that she hadn't earned any wounds in that battle...had she pulled her own weight? Had she been unconsciously shying away from confrontation? No, she thought, she was sure that she'd done her best. If a situation had come up that had required her to take one of Jinsei's powerful punches, she would have the bruises like her new friends did, but their battle had been different, though they were together.
She sighed with fatigue, realizing how exhausted she was. She gave a glance to the sleeping Jinsei in the gloom, making sure he didn't stir, and then walked over to the glass powder on the ground. She hadn't earned it that day, not technically, but it didn't feel right to just leave it there, discarded, so Katsumi gathered the glass up, not flinching when some sharp fragments of glass cut into her hand - there, she too had earned a wound today - and carefully tilted them into her item pouch. She didn't agree with Jinsei - he may have wanted to disappoint the children that day, but she wouldn't be discouraged. She took the shards of glass, not as a keepsake or out of a jealous desire to possess what she'd failed to earn, but because she felt that the team had earned it together, and because she wanted a reminder that sometimes...success came in unexpected ways.
Though they hadn't completed Jinsei's objective, they had grown a lot and gotten to know eachother...hell, it was the most important thing Katsumi had done in her life, more important than years of studying and training. Now she had comrades that she cared for, and having that strength reinforcing her heart was better to her than any technique.
