[Mission] Saying Goodbye

Post by Mendokuse » Sat Aug 08, 2009 2:37 am

The previous night, Kotoya had received a mission summons for the next day. It seemed that an old man named Sazumi Nakamura had lost his wife of 30 years and was in need of some assistance moving out of his property. It was evident that an old man like him wouldn't want to suffer in the silence of a house once filled with so much love and activity. The mission scroll instructed Kotoya to arrive at 7 AM sharp at the west gate of Sazumi's estate, where he would be led through the grounds to his first of two work locations.

The morning was clear and windy, and despite the warmth of the sun a chill ran through the air. It would be perfect weather for physical labor; sunny and bright to keep his spirits up while being cool and breezy enough to keep him comfortable.

[Mission] Saying Goodbye

It was exactly 6:57 AM and 29 seconds when he arrived at the old man's residence. He approached the west gate with a professional demeanor. He made sure to tighten and adjust his bandanna to make himself look presentable. His mother assured him that if he were to tarnish the Juri family name by making an ass of himself in the community then he would no longer bear the Juri name. Nor would he bear a working heart and several pints of blood. This was more than enough to motivate him to make sure there were no mistakes whatsoever.

Finally deeming himself presentable, he rang the bell, a full minute early.

A well-dressed slightly overweight man was waiting for Kotoya. He was in a little shack behind a tall cast-iron gate, and when Kotoya reached it, he pressed a button to make the gate open inward and allow him to enter. He then peeked out of the small window and pointed to the right, instructing Kotoya to follow a well-maintained path that crossed a beautiful lawn, several fountains and gardens, and the impressive mansion before he would reach a large cargo truck where several people were standing around waiting. Once Kotoya had joined them the old man would shortly walk down a path from the main house, hand in hand with a medic-nin, to instruct the workers. Till then, they had some times to talk among themselves or appreciate the scenery.

He approched his fellow workers with faked enthusiasm and gusto. He decided to be overly polite so as to not be overly casual. It's always better to over-dress than to under-dress, they say. He turned towards the main group of workers.

"Good day to you, fine sirs. I am Kotoya Juri, a humble genin of our fine village. If I may inquire as to the nature of our duties today?" he asked, quite politely, I might add.

The others gave him a quick glance up and down, wondering who the newcomer was. One of them, a taller boy who looked to be a Genin, replied: "Probably he'll just make us carry stuff cuz he's so old." The boy and his friends laughed cruelly but stopped abruptly when the old man had finished limping his way over the group.

"Hhello there. Mmy, mmy, you all look so strong, tthank you for ccoming to hhelp an old mman today!" He seemed nice enough but his stutter was painfully apparent.

"Why don't you all introduce yourselves?" The main suggested with a friendly smile of his lips that revealed yellowed crooked teeth. The boy who had first replied to Kotoya introduced himself smugly as Kuri and made a face at the old man when he had turned to listen to one of the other helpers. finally the old man would ask Kotoya's name.

"Oh yes, indeed, my name. I am Kotoya Juri, the sole son of Misuya Juri, the acting Chief of Medicine over at Leaf Hospital. I am skilled in a variety of Iijutsu in case anyone were to get hurt to get hurt during our duties today. Speaking of duties, what might you have us do on this fine morning?" asked Kotoya, even more politely than before.

The old man seemed to like Kotoya by his respectful nature, even to an old man. "Well we just need to ttrapnsport the tthings from tthe house to tthe truck." The man pointed up to the mansion.

I..I'd pull it arround ccloser but mmy wife pplanted tthe ggardens andd I ddont want tto trample tthem." He seemed to be a moment from crying with the emotion of missing his late wife and he turned away to wipe his eyes. "Oh jjust look at mme, ffalling appart llike this. Vvery sorry bboys!" His caretaker put an arm around the thin bony shoulders and let him back towards the house, after giving the crowd a signal to follow.

Once inside the mansion the boys would see a variety of things to move.

Couch (Strength 2)
Piano (Strength 4)
Marble Statue (Strength 6)
Odds and Ends (Chairs, cabinets, shelves, bedframes)

It was then suggested that the boys get to work carefully bringing things down to the truck.

((OOC: Pretty easy mission just write yourself transporting 3-4 things and we're good.))

Kotoya opted for the couch first; it appeared to be the only big item that he could muster the strength to carry. Though it wasn't particularly heavy, it was rather cumbersome to move on his own without quickly losing his grip on it. Due to this complication, he ended up dropping it on his toes multiple times during his trip to the truck, inciting many curse words in mental soliloquies.

Next up were a few chairs; a lot easier to carry than the couch as they could be stacked and held with ease, though they were a bit troublesome to get through the door at times. The legs were too long, the back was too wide, and so on. He ended up having to stack and unstack all of the chairs just to fit them through the doorway.

Last but certainly not least in terms of difficulty carrying was a rather rickety stack of disassembled shelves; the screws and braces were nearly impossible to keep from falling off the top as he tried to painstakingly balance the items during the vertically fluctuating path to the truck. Needless to say, it was no small task.

Kotoya had finished just in time to catch sight of a large group of genin hefting a marble stature of grand proportions. Once that was finally loaded into the truck, it appeared that their work here was done.

"Tthank you vvery much young mman," Said the old man from behind Kotoya. He had been helped down the stairs and was smiling sadly as he looked around the empty living room. He sighed deeply and glanced back at Kotoya, the wrinkles around his eyes giving him a weary expression.

"...You know...I lived here so long with my wife...I thought I'd be sad to go...but I'm actually happy...because she would have never wanted me to be so lonesome in this big mansion by myself...and now that I'm leaving this place behind...I can move on."
Although it had been a simpel mission it was clearly important to the rich old man.

Smiling at Kotoya, he nodded. "You did a good job today, son. You remind me of myself at that age. You did your best and even though the things were heavy you never made excuses or whined for help. That's just like me. Your work here is done, boys," he said, addressing the group. "Thank you very much. I'll make a payment and throw in a bonus. Since you all worked so hard."

[Mission Accomplished.]
