The Leaf Hospital Saga

The Konoha hospital was quite busy when Koji walked through the door. No wonder these people need help, he thought, they have people coming from all over the place. He hadn't had a mission in a while so when a former colleague of his had asked him to help at the hospital he agreed with the hope that he would actually achieve something out of it.

"Koji!" came a shout from across the room. Next thing he knew he had a young blond girl running straight at him. "I can't believe that you actually came! I thought for sure that you would back out." she said as he came to a stop in front of him, a little too close for his comfort. "Rina, you should know better." Koji said as he took a step back, "Have you ever known me to go back on my word?"

Before she could answer a loud yell could be heard coming from across the room. One of the patients that was once lying on one of the many beds that they had in the ER, was now standing in the middle of the room holding his head. This man was quite large and muscular and even seemed to be a ninja of the village although something seemed off about him. Out of nowhere he grabbed a young nurse who had tried to calm him down and threw her against a wall, knocking her out. "Shit!" Rina said as she ran to the other nurse, completely disregarding the psychotic muscle man that was in her path. The man attempted to grab Rina but was tackled by Koji who had lunged at him the second that he saw an opening. Koji wrestled the man to the ground but once there he didn't have the strength to keep him down. "Is someone going to help me here?!?" he called out as he struggled to keep the man down. Soon however the man grabbed Koji's entire body and flung him across the room and into a stone wall. As Koji struggled to get up, the enraged man was already up and again, moving towards the girls. Once again Koji rushed towards him but before he could do anything a woman, about 10 years older than him, had swooped in front of the man. The woman was performing handseals and the next thing that Koji knew, the man began to lose his footing and fell over.

"RINA!!! What have I told you about leaving patients alone like that?!?" the woman shouted at the younger medical ninja. "I'm so sorry Madam Kei, I promise it won't happen again." Rina replied. "Excuse me," Koji said to the woman now known as Kei, "What exactly did you do to him?" he asked referring to the once psychotic man now lying on the floor out cold. Kei looked at Koji for a moment as if she was studying him, giving him a look of Who the hell are you? "Oh I just used my wonderful genjutsu skills to put him to sleep. " she replied, "And you are…?" she asked. "This is Koji," Rina said while helping up the nurse who had been thrown into the wall, "He was the one who I said was coming in to help out for a few days."

Again, Kei gave Koji a funny look before snapping towards a few of the male nurses and telling them to get the man on the floor up and to an observation room. "Follow me." she said to Koji before turning to Rina, "You too". She walked down the hall and into an office which contained a large desk, a pile of papers, two chairs on one side of the desk, and one chair of the other side. "So you want to help out around here?" she asked Koji as she motioned for them both to sit, "Why is that exactly?"

"Well I figured that since the hospital is short staffed at the moment I would offer to help with the simple tasks around here. And since I have always been interested in medical ninjutsu, it would really help me in that way too." he said. "Do you have any medical training?" Kei asked him, "Well I know a few medical techniques but not a whole ton. But like I said, I only expect to be doing the simply tasks around here so that the nurse whose time is usually spent doing them can use her time for something else."

Again, Kei gave him that same weird look. She was obviously thinking the whole proposition over thoroughly. "Rina, do you believe that this man could be an asset to us?" she asked, "Yes Madam Kei, I do." Rina replied. "Okay so here is what we are going to do." Kei said to them, "Koji, you are going to be Rina's assistant while you are here. You are going to be following her around, helping her with her rounds and doing those small tasks that you seem to want to do so bad. In return you get to learn hands on and you have the possibility to learn new techniques to further that passion for medical ninjutsu you have. Deal?" Koji thought about the proposition for a moment. He didn't like the thought of having to be Rina's assistant, but Kei made a good point on the fact that it could be a really good experience for him. "Deal,"

"Good." she said while looking at the clock hanging on the wall, "It is getting late. You can go home for now but I want you here at 7 am you understand? Not a moment later or I will get rid of you on the spot. " she said in a demanding tone. "Now go, get out of here." Koji got up, shook her hand, and walked out of the office heading for the door.

Training 1

Might be a good idea to read the first post/full topic which is here: Leaf Hospital Saga
SpoilerShow
*Gedokuzai Jutsu [Antidote Technique]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
The user takes a leaf of some type and performs the correct hand seals. The leaf then is imbued with an antidote for most types of poison. In order to use it, it simply requires that whomever is poisoned eats the leaf.
The sun was just rising as Koji woke up and began to run through his morning routine. He had to be at the hospital to help out his friend Rina in order to help her with her rounds by 7 am or risk getting epically owned by the psycho genjutsu wielding head nurse. "It is too damn early," he mumbled as he slowly got dressed.

It was a few minutes before 7 as he walked through the hospital doors. Immediately he was greeted by both Kei, the crazy head nurse, and Rina. "Good, you’re here," Kei said as Koji approached them, "Alright you two, get to work. Koji you will follow Rina around today. You are both starting in the medicine division."

"You look like hell." Rina said to Koji as they walked down a narrow hallway. "Yeah well I'm not exactly a morning person." he said. Soon they reached a large room that contained multiple medical ninja either sitting at a desk or standing at one. Each one had a different type of plant in front of them and each one was doing something different with their plant.

"Okay so this is our medicine division. Or at least the plant section."
Rina said, "This is where we are going to start our day. See that whole section of plants over there?" Rina asked while pointing to a large group of plants sitting in a corner unattended to, "Well we are going to turn those into medicine. Now follow me." she said as she walked over to the plants. "Now I know that you have no idea what you are doing but it is actually quite simple. Those plants are normally used to counteract simple poisons." Koji was listening to what she was saying but like she had said, he had no idea what she was talking about. "Okay so the way to do this is simple. First you perform a few handseals like this…" she explained as she began to show him the seals and soon her hands began to glow. "Now all you do is take a leaf from the plant and cup it in your hands. You let the chakra flow into the leaf and then…" she showed him h leaf and it had a slight blue glow coming from it. "This leaf has now been imbued with an antidote to most poisons. Now you can do this with any leaf but some leaves are better than others. These leaves that we use here are high in nutrients so that is why we use them in our medicines."

"So…how am I supposed to do this?" Koji asked, "I mean I have never done this before and I don't want to mess it up." Rina walked over to him and pulled him over to a plant. It must have had at least 20 leaves on it itself. "You are going to use all of these leaves as your practice leaves." she said to him, "None of these will go into our batch for the day. Now let me show you the seals again." She went through the seals with him twice to make sure he knew them before letting him make his first attempt. "Now I can't tell you how much chakra to use since that all depends on how good you can control your chakra but I am going to recommend that you start off slow." she added.

Koji performed the handseals that he was shown and began to flow chakra into his hands which began to let off a blue luminescent glow. He grabbed one of the leaves on the plant and cupped it in his hands, flowing a small amount of chakra into it. After only about 15 seconds he stopped and looked at the leaf. It had a small luminescent glow coming from it but it wasn’t nearly the same as Rina's. "How's this?" he asked. Rina looked up from her own plant and looked at his leaf. She immediately swooped it up out of his hands and ate it. "Not quite. You see these leaves are really bitter after this technique. Yours wasn’t bitter enough. Keep trying."

Again Koji performed the handseals again and grabbed another leaf off of the plants. This time when he cupped it in his hands he flowed chakra into it for at least a full minute before presenting it for judgment. This time the once green leaf looked almost blue because of the glow of chakra let off by it. "Um….yeah… maybe you should taste this one." she suggested. Koji, thinking nothing of it, put the leaf in his mouth. Immediately he had an awful taste and precedded to spit it out all over the floor while trying to wipe whatever was left of it off of his tongue. "Yeah….I figured that would happen. Too much chakra is not a good thing. If a persons system is already weakened by the poison then too much of the antidote may get rid of the poison but it could also do damage itself. Try to keep it level."

This went on for about an hour. Koji struggled to find common ground between too much chakra and too little chakra. Where Rina had already finished off two plants worth of leaves, Koji had almost finished off his entire plant of leaves, every single one of which he had failed to imbue properly. "I'm taking a break." Koji said as he began to walk away. "Oh no you don't. Get back over here and finish this." Rina said to him, "We only have a little more time before we have to move on to our next job. Besides you are getting close to succeeding."

Koji walked back over to the table and once again formed the handseals the he had done so many times before. Again he grabbed a leaf and again he cupped it in his hands and flowed chakra into it. He held it there for about 30 seconds and then stopped. "How's that?" he said. "Hmm still needs some work." she said, "Try it one more time and this time use a little less chakra." Koji began the handseals again for what he dubbed the final attempt at this jutsu whether he succeeded or not. This time he transferred less chakra and only let it go for 25 seconds. "Perfect!" Rina said as she inspected leaf that he now presented to her, "Okay our time here is about up. Time to move one to our next station. C'mon."

Koji followed her out the door and back down the hallway that they had some in. He may not have been much help but he did learn a useful technique that could allow him to help others on his missions so it was useful and he felt that his time was well spent.

Genjutsu

1000+ Words

The sky was black, the ground too. Everything looked the same causing a problem in distinguishing between the earth and the sky. Koji felt like he was in a daze, unable to think clearly. It was all fantasy, a figment of his imagination. It was, a genjutsu. He had been stuck in them before and he would get stuck in them again. He could do nothing but sit there and wait for it to be over. This particular genjutsu did not cause much damage on its own but the fact that it could block a persons sight and thinking process is what made it so effective.

"Come on Koji! You're really falling for this again?" came a voice from the darkness. He recognized it as Rina's. It was a sad fact that she has always been able to capture him in this jutsu, leaving him unable to do anything.

"You know, I am really getting annoyed by this!" Koji called out.

"Then get out of it!" she shouted back.

"You know that I can't!" he replied. "Yeah I know." came a whisper, only this time it was behind him. The shadows began to fade back into the real world as Koji turned to face her.

"I really hate fighting you some time." he said, "You always use that technique and I can never get out of it."

"Well if you didn't suck at genjutsu so much then maybe you would be able to get out of it." she replied. "If you want, I can tutor you on genjutsu but…no promises."

Koji thought it over for a few minutes. "Well, what do I have to lose?"

"Okay so first things first. We should go over the basics of genjutsu. Do you remember them?"

Koji gave her a blank stare. It had been a couple years. "Well lets see. Genjutsu plays tricks with a persons mind. It affects their senses for the most part and the strongest ones take a lot of control." he answered.

"For the most part that is right." Rina said, "Now how to you get out of them? And don't just say 'Kai' because that is just obvious."

Koji thought for a moment. What else was there? "Well….I guess it would help if a person became aware that they were in a genjutsu. And those who are good in genjutsu would have an easier time at that and would be able to get out of it easier."

"Good." she replied.

"So do you think I am ready to learn how to get out of that jutsu you love to use on me?" he inquired, "I really want to get rid of that obstacle. And who knows, learning to beat that one may mean learning to beat other ones of a similar level."

"You? Get out of one of my genjutsu? HAHAHA!" she laughed, "You will only get out of one of my genjutsu when pigs fly!" At that moment dozens of small pigs sprouting giant hawk wings began to fly over head.

"What the hell....?" Koji mumbled as he watched the odd creatures fly around. "Is this your idea of a joke?" he asked. It was obviously a genjutsu, it couldn't be anything else. And from the fact that it wasn't exactly doing anything except distracting him, it couldn't be that high ranked. Koji closed his eyes and put his hands together. He began to slowly focus his chakra before releasing it all, disrupting his chakra. When he opened his eyes the pigs were gone and Rina was smiling at him. "So...what was with that?" he asked.

"Well, if I'm going to help you, i need to know just how much experience you have with genjutsu." she responded. All of a sudden Rina charged at him attempting to strike him with a kunai.

"What the hell are you doing?" he shouted as he dodged. She didn’t answer. She only followed his movements attempting to strike him. She closed in on him and as he tried to dodge, he felt his flesh being pierced by the blade. What is going on! he thought. Koji spun and attempted to punch her aiming for her stomach. As he did, she attempted to dodge Koji's stirke but he was able to strike her. But something was off. He was sure that his fist had hit her but he didn’t feel it, nor did she seem to be affected by it.

This continued on for quite a few minutes. She would charge at him, attempting to strike him, succeeding a few times, while he tried to dodge her strikes and attack her back. After a while, it seemed that no matter what he did to her, she still had more than enough energy to fight where as he was losing energy as he went. During the entire time, she hadn't said a single word. He on the other hand, had been shouting at her and asking for an answer, all without an answer. Then it hit him, this was a genjutsu.

Step one: Figure out that your in a genjutsu. Check, Koji thought. Next is getting out of it. Koji put his hands together before releasing a small amount of chakra. Kai! He thought. The image sort of stuttered for a moment but us didn't disspell. Damn! He thought. The "clone" was now charging at him. He dodged to his left. Even though he knew it was a genjutsu he wasn’t sure if he could still get "hurt" by it. Kai! He thought again as he tried to escape. Again image stuttered but still did not disspell. Obviously I am not focused or calm enough to get out of it, he thought. He closed his eyes and tried to focus again. The "clone" was now charging him, kunai in hand. Kai! He thought as he opened his eyes. Finally, just as the "clone" had reached him, the genjutsu dispersed.

"See there you go!" Said the real Rina, " You are now officially a little better at genjutsu." Happy with himself, Koji thanked and said goodbye to Rina and made his way home.

*Chakra Burst
D-Rank Ninjutsu
The user concentrates an amount of chakra in their fist, so, if impact occurs, the chakra bursts out, adding extra concussive force to the attack.

Man I'm bored, Koji thought as he walked down the streets of the village. It had been so long since he had actually had time to himself and yet, he couldn't find anything to do. I guess I could go to the looking for something at the library, he thought, but it is too beautiful of a day out of stay inside and read. He kept walking until he had reached one of the many training fields, noticing that there wasn't a person in sight who was using it. Seeing the fields made him think back to all of the good times that he had had on them. The constant training, the spars with his teammates, everything. He then realized that there was one thing that he had always wanted to know but had never had the time to learn it. It was a technique that he had seen Akira use multiple times. It was the Chakra Burst technique. It seemed to be a useful technique so why not learn it.

The first thing that Koji needed to do was figure out how to start. It seemed to him that every time that Akira performed it, all he did was flow a certain amount of chakra into his fist. Now that he needed to figure out was how much. Koji approached a large wooden post, as he was sure the strike wouldn't be able to break through it. "Since I don't know how much chakra to use, lets start out small." he said to himself. He began to flow a small amount of chakra to his right fist, causing it to give off a very small luminescent glow to form around his fist. Well, let's try it! He thought as he punched the wooden post. He obviously didn't use enough chakra as his punch had done very little damage to the post, only giving it a small dent. However Koji's hand hurt from the impact. "I have a feeling that my hand isn't going to be working to well by the end of this." he said to himself. Since the small amount of chakra didn’t do much, Koji flooded his hand with a great amount of chakra. However this time when he punched the wood, there wasn't much of a difference. Koji was puzzled. If a large amount of chakra did the same amount of damage as a small amount of chakra then how was he supposed to cause some real damage?

It didn't take long for him to figure it out. It didn’t only take a certain amount of chakra but also a good amount of control to make it more effective. Koji began to flow chakra into his hand again, however this time he didn’t strike right away. Instead he focused on the flow of his chakra, trying to make sure that it was as perfect as possible. Soon he believed that the chakra was at the right point and struck the wooden post in front of him. His punch caused the post to take significantly more damage than any of his attempts before, actually making a large crack in the post. Proud of himself, Koji decided that one more successful strike would mean the end of his training. At the same time, he would try to do the same thing only faster. Once again, he began to flow chakra into his hand, being careful of the flow of his chakra. Once again Koji punched the post, this time causing a part of it to break off and fly far from the rest of the post.

Happy with himself, Koji disposed of the broken post and began to walk home, where he would nurse his newly bruised hand.

Sensor Post 1

The night was cool, the sky clear. All was peaceful in the Village Hidden in the Leaves. Within one house a boy was a boy, asleep in his bed. His name was koji, a chuunin of the hidden leaf. After a day of hard training he had barely gotten home before falling victim to the overwhelming urge to fall asleep.

As he slept, a shadowed figure walked the halls of his home. The figure was wearing dark colors, black and gray mostly, with a black mask. Slowly he approached Koji's room, tiptoeing as quietly as he could as not to wake him. Soon he was entering the room and walking towards the boy, that is, until he bumped into a small table that had been hidden from sight by the shadows. It rattled everything on the table causing a rather loud noise to disappate through the room.

Almost immediately, Koji's eyes flew open and withing moments, his eyes locked on to the shadow figure that stood in the middle of his room. He quickly reached for his sword which lay beside him but the figure had no intention of letting him reach it. The figure quickly charged koji, kicking the sword away from him and then reaching for him. Koji rolled backward and then out the door, which led to the outside back garden.

"Who are you?" koji shouted. The figure didn't answer. He only removed a sword from the sheath on his back and readied himself for an attack. Koji, not being one to go without a weapon forced chakra into the tattoo on his arm, releasing his kusarigama. The figure moved towards him, running in awkward zig zag patterns. Koji swung the weighted end of his weapon, causing it to wrap around his opponents sword. He then pulled backward, causing the weapon to go flying.

Thinking that he had just achived the upperhand, Koji began to smerk. That is, until he was struck from behind by a kunai that ripped through his arm. The unexpected pain caused him to drop his weapon and clutch his arm as he turned to see yet another figure, almost identical to the other one. The second figure began to throw more weapons at him, causing Koji to lunge to the side to dodge them. However as he dodged, another kunai hit the ground in front of him, this one attached to a small exploding tag. He jumped backward as the tag exploded with about half if the force of a normal tag. Unlike the rest of the weaponry, this one came from the trees around them. Soon all of the trees, which surrounded the garden began to launch kunai at him, causing him to do a sort of dance trying to avoid them all.

Eventually he found himself with his back to a wall, an awful position in such a situation. He had gained more wounds to his arms and the rest of his body. He watched as one of the figures approched him slowly. Koji began to perform handseals when a formiliar voice chimed in. "Enough" said the figure in front of him. The figure removed his mask. "Dad?!?" Koji shouted as he stood in awe at the revelation of his opponent. "Meet me in the training room tomorrow morning and I will explain."

Sensor Post 2

Koji couldn’t sleep, in fact he wouldn’t sleep. He stayed awake, tending to his wounds, trying to process what he had just experienced. No matter how he looked at it, it all came down to one thing: hi father had just attacked him, nearly killed him, and then just walked off as if it happened all the time. But it didn’t. This wasn’t Kiri, this was Konoha, this type of thing didn’t just happen on a daily basis.

The hours passed. By the time that the sun began to rise above the village, Koji had most of his wounds cleaned and bandaged. With the light of the sun breaking over the horizon Koji took off for the training room, located in the small house in their backyard. It was time for answers, time for the truth. As he entered the room he could make out a single figure, masked by the darkness, yet outlined by the dim light of the few candles placed throughout the room. The windows were closed, allowing no natural light to enter the room, an odd occurrence for this room in particular.

“You healed up nice.” said the figure. The voice could clearly be distinguished as Koji’s father.

“Yeah, no thanks to you.” Koji replied coldly. He began to move towards his father. Anyone who really looked for it could tell that he was walking with a limp due to the rather large cut that horizontally lined the back of his calf.

“Yeah…sorry about that…sorta.” His father apologized, “However that was a mere training exercise. And a way to see how well you track your opponents in battle.” He added.

Koji stopped for a moment. “A training exercise? In the middle of the night? Just to satisfy a curiosity?” he shouted, “Couldn’t it have waited until morning?”

“It could’ve, but it was much more fun my way.” His father chuckled.

Koji was pissed, understandably so. “If your curiosity was satisfied last night, then why am I here now?” he uttered angrily.

“How many people would you say were attacking you last night?” His father asked.

“A guessing game? You made me come here for a guessing game?!?” Koji was shouting again, “I’m going to bed.” he said as he began to walk out.

“Just answer me.” His father replied.

“Fine. I would say one. You. And you probably had some shadow clones helping you.”

“How many shadow clones?” his father asked.

“I don’t know, 5 maybe 6. We done now?”

“See that is my exact point. You only had three people attacking you last night, me and two shadow clones.” His father said matter-of-factly.

“So?” Koji questioned.

“Do you even hear yourself right now? The reason that that is relevant is that knowing exactly how many people you are up against could mean the difference between life and death. How you plan to fight three people compared to how you would plan to fight five people widely differs.”

Koji just sort of stared at him. The lack of sleep and the pain from his wounds were beginning to get to him. He wanted nothing more at this point to just turn around and go back to bed. But his father had a point. “Go on, I’m listening.” Koji said.

“Well I would like to teach you a very useful set of techniques, one now, and one later. Using it you would be able to better sense multiple sources of chakra in your immediate area.” His father explained. “However it will take a very long time to learn this and you very well may not be able to. You up for it?”

Koji pondered the offer for a few moments. A jutsu like that was sure to come in handy at one point in time. And even then, it would just be nice to have. “Alright fine. When do we get started?” he asked.

“Tomorrow. I will meet you here at the same time.” His father replied, ”Be sure to get your rest though, this is going to be tough.”

Genjutsu. Oh what an interesting subject it was. Having read so much on the subject in the last few days, Koji decided that it was time that he actually learned how to use some of the genjutsu out there. Of course he would have to start of easy, being that he only knew one genjutsu and it was probably one of the lowest ranking techniques out there.

One technique that intrigued him was one that messed with the way a persons body felt. Of course, it really didn't do too much damage, but eventually this would help him to use the more powerful versions of it. All this one really did was cause someone to feel like one of their limbs was falling asleep. This should be interesting.

Koji had one problem though. How was he going to practice this? Unlike ninjutsu or taijutsu, there was no way for him to truly know that the technique was working unless he used it on another person. He could practice the hand seals and flowing chakra for the technique but there was no way to truly know.

Just like that it hit him! He had a summon that he could experiment on! Sure Akai wouldn't enjoy it to much, being experimented on and all, but he was the best Koji had at the moment. Performing a few hand seals, Koji slammed his hand down on the ground. A puff of smoke appeared and along with it came the red lion.

"So uh…what's goin on?" Akai asked looking around the room, "Do you need me for something?"

"As a matter of fact I do. You see I decided that I want to learn to use genjutsu and in order to do that I need someone to test them on. What do you say?" Koji explained.

"Well I don't know, I'm not too happy with the whole 'being used as a test subject' thing."

"Well then, how about for every genjutsu I learn, I will help you learn something new too. Deal?"

"Alright sounds good!"

With that the training began. The book listed the needed hand seals and triggers of the jutsu but really didn’t say much else. Through his research, Koji knew that he would need some really good chakra control to get the best result out of the genjutsu. Koji put his hands together and began to focus on his chakra. Getting his chakra to a good level of control, he began to slowly perform hand seals as he focused on controlling his chakra well. On the last seal he looked straight into Akai's eyes hoping for the desired result.

"Do you feel anything yet?" Koji asked the lion.

"Well what am I supposed to be feeling? I mean I feel a little itchy if that is what you mean." the lion replied.

"No that is not that this one is supposed to do to you. And I really can't tell you exactly what this does it kinda ruins the effect." Koji replied to him.

Koji attempted it once more. He knew that he wouldn't get it on the first try. Probably not even the first few. But he was hoping to get it down quickly. Performing the hand seals once again, he looked into Akai's eyes while releasing a small amount of chakra. "How about now?"

"Nope, still nothin. You sure you are doing this right?"

"This is going to be a long night" Koji mumbled.

And a long night it was. Those first couple times had passed. The first dozen times had passed. And yet he still couldn't get it down. He knew he was making some progress because Akai described slight tingles but they didn’t last long. It wasn't until around the 20th attempt that Koji was finally able to do it correctly.

"Hey! My legs are going numb!" Akai shouted.

"Like asleep or like completely numb?" Koji asked him.

"There's a difference?"

Koji just kinda looked at the lion with a '-_-' face, although it didn’t last long as happiness with himself over completing the technique flowed through him.
