His feet began leaving less of a footprint every step towards his home. They slowly began to drag in the debris-covered roads that rested in the moderately trafficked part of one of the Konoha bazaars. Sounds of bartering and children filled the air, but were all tuned out by the young man who had just got done meeting his three man squad that was assigned to him. Hidden behind the hazel eyes that wouldn't look anywhere but directly forward was a twinge of disappointment, made more prominent by the faint frown formed by Kaito's lips. He had gone into the meeting knowing that he wasn't going to immediately love every single person, but at the very least he didn't want to have to walk away knowing that his own comrades would carry traits of the one person he could truly bring himself to hate. He tried to shrug it off, attempting to find the silvering lining in the dark and hefty cloud that loomed over his head.
It hadn't taken him very long to reach his home, adding to Kaito's increasing disappointment. Home wasn't the best place for the new genin to hang out, but he had yet to find a place he could simply relax. Only on occasion would Kaito get lucky and hear from Yuri, his father's girlfriend, that his father was actually out on a mission. Those were good days, but with nothing immediately threatening looming around the corner, his father had the luxury of staying at home and doing anything unproductive he could think of.
"Welcome back. How was it?" Yuri asked in a chipper tone as Kaito made his way through the door. Her words were a welcome change to the gruff, “Where were you kid?” that he normally got. His eyes never left the direction of his destination as he answered almost monotonously, “Fine. All of them are idiots, except for maybe one.”
She had just enough time to start her follow-up question, but was cut off by the sound of a door shutting and she simply dropped the issue. Her eyes gazed out towards the crowds of people towards the bazaar and sighed, knowing fully well that he would probably never open up to her.
Feeling the cold, smooth metal of the doorknob leave his hands after checking the futile lock, the mentally exhausted genin fell onto his bed face first. Grunting as his face hit the pillow, Kaito turned onto his back and reviewed the meaningless encounter as if some enlightening epiphany was going to make him see the world differently. Fingers interlaced themselves behind his head while his chest rose up and down at a steady pace. Somehow he found himself talking to no one in particular, muttering things like, “Those idiots…”, “Honestly? How did I get grouped with them?” or things to that effect. Eventually be began having a full-blown conversation with himself.
“I bet you even dad’s team wasn’t even this bad. Of course, I have Kowai who uses Taijutsu just like dad does… and then there’s that girl who uses Katon like dad does. What does our sensei even do? Feed his enemies to death?” He questioned as he sat upright and looked out his window. His eyes wandered to a sign that said "Open for Business", reminding him of how his mother used to have a sign just like that outside of her store.
Like a leaky dam, single memories began flowing into his head such as the time he had accidentally knocked over a whole table of merchandise and breaking most what laid on the table. Or the time he knocked over several customers because he felt like running through the store. There was no reason to run, he just felt like it. Before he realized it, the tears began to flow from the nostalgic memories coursing through his head. He tried his best to refrain from audible sniffling, not wanting to catch the attention of his father’s girlfriend and tried to just let the tears flow.
Futile as his efforts were, he managed to control his labored breathing and drive the wrenching memories out of his head. But how could he deal with it all? His team reminded him of the father that never truly cared, using techniques that he truly despised above all else. The only thing that kept him sane was the distance between them, as if getting closer to them meant forgiving his father. His mind wandered for a few moments before consciousness left him. Reddened eyes were shielded by thin lids as the stream of tears began to fade, while pinkish lips opened just enough to let a, “Maybe someday…” escape.

"Hey brat, you awake?!" called out a brash voice through the wooden door, followed by heavy pounds and more abrasive shouts. Kaito had come back to consciousness the very moment he heard the voice of his father berating him from behind the wonderful barrier that separated their living spaces. He could only mumble and groan as he stretched his arms and legs, yawning as he did so. Sunlight still crept through the window at the same intensity as when Kaito first closed his eyes. Sounds of people hustling and bustling through the bazaar were slightly dulled down but the laughter of children became more prominent. For a moment the young boy reminisced about his days of innocence. Alas, his nostalgia was cut short by another series of knocking, finishing with, "Dinner's ready so get your ass into the kitchen and eat."
"I'll get there when I get there. No need to yell so freaking loud!" Kaito blasted back, half expecting his father to bust down the door and reprimand him for speaking in such a tone. Anger began building up inside the boy, though it quickly dissipated before culminating into anything too drastic. Such back and forth banter was common between the two of them, along with some occasional close-call brawls. Even still, Kaito couldn't help but be completely disgusted by his father and how he felt that he was some type of macho brute whom no one could stop. Every so often the Suiton child thought about putting his father under the illusion that he was drowning out of nowhere, but never did anything because of a lack of actually trying.
Still yawning as he forced himself out of bed, the drowsy genin made his way to the door and smelled the succulent chicken that had been prepared for their meal. The aroma woke up his senses as he pulled the door open to an unpleasant surprise. Standing in the middle of the doorway was an unruly and disheveled looking man with no shirt and a poor excuse for a pair of pants. It was apparent that Kaito had missed the slurring and hiccupping that were dulled by the door due to his drowsy state. He thought that his father would attempt to start an argument, but Yuri beckoned the drunkard to the table before he could even build the mental energy to even start a sentence.
The young boy followed, rubbing his eyes and wiping away the crust that had been accumulated. Finding his way to his seat, Kaito mouthed a quick, ‘Thank you’, to Yuri before sitting down. She nodded in response, knowing that Hattori could get really obnoxious when he was in a drunken stupor. That and the added fact that most of the time Kaito had wanted to drown his father in a gigantic pool of water meant that Yuri spent the majority of her time playing mediator with the two.
“So what’s for dinner?” Kaito asked while inhaling the scent of the sauced protein sitting in a large round bowl in front of them all. Before Yuri could answer his question, Hattori chimed in with his own very loud and very slurred response. “What does it matter? It’s food. Just eat it. It’s good for you.” Those were the words that Kaito was able to understand. There was another couple string of sentences that followed that one, but the tired and easily irritable young boy was in no mood to deal with his father. Without much of a thought, the still half-asleep teenager blurted out, “Stuff a scroll in it, would you?”
“What did you tell me to do boy?” Hattori managed to get out while simultaneously standing up, nearly knocking the table over. Although he couldn’t completely make out his son, he figured the blurred figure in front of him without breasts was a good bet. Yuri seemed to be worried about where this was headed, but didn’t really know what to do about it. She didn’t even know if she had the courage to do anything about it.
“Stuff. A. Scroll. In. It,” the boy responded with a deathly glare in his eyes. He had dealt with the drunken verbal onslaught of his father before, and was smart enough to outwit him if he tried to do any physical fighting. Never has it gotten to the point where they actually fought with any vigor, but it was apparent that every verbal fight left a progressively bitter taste in Kaito’s mouth. His father on the other hand seemed to become more violent with each encounter, and this argument seemed to head in a whole new direction.
“You really think that’s any way to speak to me? After all I’ve done for you? You little-“
“All that you’ve done for me?!” Kaito exploded, pointing at his poor excuse for a father and nearly flipping the table in front of him. Yuri was left speechless off to the side, but had enough sense to put away the utensils that she was going to place on the table. Hattori then did what Kaito had enough restraint not to do and flipped the fairly large wooden table towards his son, with a rage-filled yell. It took nearly all the young genin had not to form seals, and simply moved out of the way an avoided the vicious wooden attack.
“Oh yes, attacking your son, what a lovely little gift!” he said, taunting the stumbling chuunin who was attempting to make his way towards Kaito. There were some more attempts at words, but he had the speaking ability of a two year old with the mental prowess of a grizzly bear on some type of hallucinogen. A pair of thudding footsteps stomped the ground while another pair silently retreated towards a window. Yuri was too stunned to move, and her words made as much sense as Hattori’s because her weeping and sobbing preventing any type of sense to come out of her mouth.
“You… little fuck!” Hattori called out, leaping forward with a sloppy kick. It was small moments like these where Kaito wish he were more adept in the art of hand-to-hand combat, but a few hand seals would have to do. Yuri was too busy worrying in the corner to see the illusion-casting genin clap his hands, but the mid-air Hattori saw the action very clearly before watching his son disperse into hundreds of small little bubbles. Not having the best reaction time, the man flew into the wall and somehow managed to knock himself out in the process.
Muttering a few curses under his breath, Kaito looked at Yuri, saying, “Thanks a bunch for the help,” before walking out of the house to find something to eat.

Jutsu UsedShow
† Suihou Fukumen [Bubble Veil]
D-Ranked Genjutsu
After performing the correct hand seals, Kaito will clap his hands once before performing the illusion. This genjutsu has no specific target, and affects visual perception of everyone, friend or foe and does not require anyone to actually hear the clap to see the genjutsu, but does require them to at least see him clap. This jutsu will give the illusion that after Kaito has clapped, a large mass of bubbles will appear all around him and twirl around where he started the jutsu. While this happens, Kaito will use the bubbles as a distraction to move from that spot to a different location and when he is done, the bubbles will disperse into every direction, simply popping away. The illusion only lasts for a single post.
