Mission: Jalapeno!

[Ace Trainer]

The man leaned back in his chair sitting before a table with 5 baskets on them, it was a small testing room with only one door. Seems like they didn't want you to escape.

Dun dun dun!

As Arashi closed the door behind him, he heard the sound of a lock clicking into place.

Gulp...

He'd already been having some trepidation about this mission. Spicy food definitely didn't agree with the Genin's stomach, especially not in this quantity.

D-Rank mission my heiny...This has got to be at least an A-Rank mission...

Putting on a brave face for the sake of his mission, Arashi walked up to the table, dropping his eyes to the baskets, already feeling his stomach turn and his face whiten.

"O-Oi, I'm Arashi. I'm here to eat some peppers." Despite his attempt at courage, his voice shook slightly. He could already sense that he'd be spending the night on the toilet.

The man smiled at the nervous shake in the boys voice. "Don't worry kiddo. Just sit down and pick a jalapeno out of the first bowl."

It was a pink bowl, with light blue jalapeno's in them. Yeah, light blue. These were no normal jalapeno's, clearly. It had an almost sweet candy-like odor about it.

Arashi looked up at the man and nodded, a stoic expression on his face.

Ok...I can do this...They're just some ultra-super-hot-spicy-peppers-of-death..That's all...Gulp...

Reaching out to take a jalapeno tentatively between two fingers, Arashi examined it for a moment before popping it into his mouth, slowly grinding his teeth to chew the oddly colored pepper, his face contorting in expectation of impending agony.

It was sweet. Like, it was literally sweep. Possibly reminiscent of cotton candy. The man leaned forward intently, ready to scribble words down on his clipboard. "So how does it taste?"

[Mendokuse]

Words couldn't even describe it. Not that Arashi was particularly eloquent anyway, but even for him, with his simple vocabulary, he couldn't come up with an answer. Awesome just didn't seem to do it justice.

"Thish ish...the besht thing I have ever tashted," he mumbled a bit distractedly as he chewed the pepper, a look of absolute bliss commanding his features.

"I'm not even jusht shaying that to be polite." He swallowed, and greedily eyed the next basket, glancing up to the man as if to ask "May I?"

[Ace Trainer]

The man chuckled at the boy, "If you don't mind me asking, could you be a little more descriptive? Is it spicy? Are you noticing anything happening to your body? Things like that are very important."

As Arashi chewed, he scratched his cheek slightly, trying to come up with the words to describe what he was feeling. It was difficult because this pepper was unlike anything he'd ever tried, so he decided that he would just describe things in a most superficial way, as the deeper feelings couldn't really be expressed.

"Hm, well, it's really sweet, almost like candy. And when I chew it, it's kind of tingly in my jaw, it's kind of a funny feeling. I like it." Grinning, Arashi couldn't believe he'd been so apprehensive at first. These peppers were really great! Then again he still had four more to try...

The man scribbled down far more than what the boy had described, but when he finally finished writing, he smiled and pointed to the next bowl. "Go ahead."

This one was a lot more intimidating. It was pitch black, and almost looked shiney/

Arashi hated the taste of black licorice, which is what this pepper reminded him of. Still, the one before it was delicious, despite being a pepper; he should learn not to judge a book by its cover. Besides, he was on a mission (his first mission ever, in fact) so he couldn't pass this up.

Gingerly taking the black pepper from the bowl, Arashi popped it into his mouth and chewed tentatively, looking a bit apprehensive about the flavor he'd soon experience.

Charcoal.

Ew, ew, ew, ew. Thats disgusting. It tasted like it was falling into ash in your mouth.

[Mendokuse]

Arashi's eyes began to water as he chewed the revolting thing.

"This one tastes like an ashtray," He said matter-of-factly, not wanting to be rude but being blunt enough to give his real opinion so that hopefully no other person would have to taste this awful thing. Arashi wandered over to a trash can and spat it out before returning to the table and popping the next pepper into his mouth.

The man chuckled feverishly, I'was 'fraid of that.", he said tugging on his collar with a laugh as he scribbled down on the clipboard. HE pointed to the next bowl, it was a bright redish-orange color. Suggesting the worst thing ever.

Super spicy.

Not to mention they seemed to be thinking preemptively, because 3 glasses of water and a gallon of milk sat beside that basket.

Arashi eyed the red pepper with a look of incredulity. It couldn't be...oh yes, it was. The spicy pepper from hell that he'd been so terrified of was staring him in the face. If peppers had teeth, this one would surely be gnashing them together frightfully.

Still, Arashi couldn't just give up now, so trying not to think about how bad it was going to taste, he picked a pepper and bit off only half of it, chewing it as he twirled the pepper by its stem, getting ready to chug the milk at any second if it was unbearable.

It was a brief explosion of taste, before it began melting. It tasted like...oranges....apples...maybe even a little banana....and.....definitely watermelon.

It wasn't spicy in the slightest, it had a fruity flavor that was completely contradicted by its vibrant outer color. Compelling.

[Mendokuse]

Arashi swallowed the last chewed up bits of pepper and beamed.

"Holycrap, that was way better than it looked, I'd definitely eat it if it came out in stores."
Feeling a bit more confident that the spicy pepper hadn't been so bad, Arashi went for the next one, sampling its hopefully delicious flavours.
