Act 1: The Long Goodbye

They've Waited So Long



The Moon was high over Konoha, the sky blotched with patches of clouds that glowed silver under the moonlight. It was the type of night you'd spend with the person you loved, staring up at the stars if you weren't distracted by other things. Of course Nakao Senri wasn't old enough to have that kind of relationship, at least not in the eyes of her parents and other adults. Of course we're drifting off topic.

Senri staggered out of her room, her hands groping the wall of the hallway. She usually didn't have to wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom but tonight was one night she did. Stumbling through the hallway and down the stairs she headed for the first floor bathroom. The second one wasn't flushing and her father hadn't finished it yesterday leading to long trips downstairs for anyone upstairs. As she reached the first floor she quickly became fully awake when a chill brushed over her, causing her to rub her arms and look around.

Senri found the source to be the backdoor slightly ajar. Looking around quickly she cautiously approached the door as she thought someone had broken into their home. She approached it quietly but stopped when she heard voices. She couldn't make out what was being said but she creeped closer in an attempt to hear more before she found herself pressed against the wall beside the door as moonlight flooded through the glass.

"Umeda has everything planned out Nakao, so stop worrying. Our men will finish by tomorrow so the mission will commence in two days."

"Finish by tomorrow? What exactly are they doing underground?" Senri blinked in surprise, the sound of her fathers voice reaching her ears.

"We aren't supposed to say." The first man said, his voice wavering a little.

"Just tell him, it's not like it'll matter come game time." A second said, sounding a bit more laid back in terms of handling the details of the operation they were discussing.

"I need to know all the aspects so if something goes wrong I can help or move in coordination with back up plans." Senri's father said, sounding quite serious.

The first man hesitated for a second before groaning "Fine. If the Primary Plan fails, then the we'll go to plan B and blow up the Kages building. Umeda has men working round the clock to prepare a massive seal that will allow him to use his Kinjutsu to destroy the Hokage."

Senri covered her mouth as she tried to keep from making any noise. She stared into the darkness of the house as she listened to the men discuss their plans to destroy Konoha's leadership. Her father being one of them. Senri heard the men discussing times and positions they would need to be in for the attack. Knowing this was usually the way to wrap up meeting amongst shinobi she quickly creeped over to the bathroom and closed the door silently and turned on the light. She leaned against the door and searched the floor for an answer for what was going on with her father.

She almost screamed when a knocked softly shook the door behind her. She quickly stammered out a "Y-y-yes?"

There was a moment of silence before her father spoke through the door "Forget what you heard, it's best if you didn't recall the conversation you heard tonight."

Senri swallowed as her father knew she had listened in. She heard footsteps going upstairs and knew her father was going back to bed. Her father was conspiring to be a traitor, how was she going to just forget something like that? She had to go tell someone, but who? Senri stood there pondering what she should do before she decided it best to use the bathroom before she wet herself.



Exiting the bathroom with the sound of water flushing behind her she stood there in the darkened room, moonlight flooding in as she stared at the floor. She looked out the backdoor at where the men might have stood no more than a few minutes ago. She recalled the conversation, her time reflecting in the bathroom. She had made her decision, she'd tell her mother tomorrow about what she heard..... but was telling on her father really the right thing to do?
