The flowershop clerk was almost asleep when her eyes opened to see a couple silently walk in. They carried an almost sacred aura around them, and she slowly moved from behind the desk, ready to assist. Although, the way they communicated, without words, made her stop in her tracks. They knew exactly what they were looking for, that much she could tell, and the evening sun made her go back to her desk, it was almost closing time. She curiously eyed the woman, noticing how she picked the white lilies that were almost in bloom, clever, the flowers will stay fresh for longer. Noticing the pick, she understood the destination, and patiently waited for them to approach.

Tsuki eyed the flowers, making sure they were fresh and had no indication of going bad any time soon – she checked the petals, leaves, and stem, making her pick with care and consideration. She wasn’t sad or nothing of that sort, no, she felt very at peace with everything now. With her life, with him, with everything past, present and future. She felt a supporting hand on her waist, grounding and warm, as she was lifting the flowers up to check. Tsuki smiled, and brought the selection to the clerk, carefully placing it on the counter. ”Thank you,” she said calmly, as her hand found his again. ”Let’s go?”

They left the shop together, falling into step seamlessly. Tsuki took one last check at the flowers, happy with her pick and decision. The road was a little longer, and she didn’t say it yet but they will have to enter the Hyuuga grounds. She wasn’t concerned about that at all. For all they know, she was the future mother of the next heir and with the so-called wedding, her position shifted, earning respect. Not the kind of fear, at least, not of her. Fabricated and unreal, constrained by hereditary chains. And yet, Tsuki didn’t really care because she chose to live her life. It will make a great story one day. Even though there were not many people in the streets at the time, most of them paying no mind to the dark haired couple, as they neared the outskirts, more eyes lingered on them, hushed whispers followed their trail. The rumors were there, she knew as much, pale eyes lifting to steel blue ones, finding the strength and confidence that helped put a smile to her face again.

Tsuki stopped by the Hyuuga gates but just for a short moment. ”Let’s go from the other side, I really don’t want to talk with any of them.” With that, she gently steered them further, rounding the corner of the wall, the black metal gates already visible in the distance.

Yoshinori and Tsuki’s walk through the streets of Konoha felt like something out of a gentler time. The usual bustle of the village had mellowed into a tranquil hum, the crowds thinning as dusk softened the edges of the day. Shopkeepers began to roll up their stalls, and neighbors lingered on porches in quiet conversation. With their fingers intertwined and the weight of travel beginning to settle into their limbs, the two moved at a relaxed pace, their conversation light and filled with fond reflections of Sunagakure. They spoke of little things; it was all unhurried, a gentle stroll laced with laughter and the occasional brush of a shoulder. The walk to the florist was over in the blink of an eye. Yoshinori opened the door for her with an easy smile, the tinkling of the bell above the entrance marking their arrival. The air inside was sweet and rich, filled with the scent of petals and damp earth. He moved to stand beside her again, as he always did, drawn like a magnet. The colors of the bouquets bathed the room in warmth, blush pinks, deep purples, sun-gold yellows, but it was the delicate white lilies that caught their attention.

Yoshinori watched her as she carefully selected the lilies. They were just about to bloom, their pale petals still curled in promise. Young, fresh, and so full of quiet grace. Just like the girl who held them. His arm slid around Tsuki’s waist, fingers resting gently at the dip of her back as his eyes wandered over the selection. He tried to remember the meanings. White for purity, remembrance… love that transcended loss. It felt right. He gave a soft nod of approval as she cradled the bouquet. Without a second thought, Yoshinori pulled a ryo note from the small wad of bills he’d lifted from the Suna thieves and handed it to the shopkeeper with a quiet thank-you, waving off the idea of needing change. The flowers were priceless in their purpose. Some things didn’t need to be counted down to the last coin. As they exited the shop, the bouquet now safely in Tsuki’s arms, Yoshinori’s hand found hers again. The warmth of her palm against his own steadied something in him. “Let’s,” he said softly, eyes meeting hers with a smile that held understanding and reverence. With that, the two of them turned toward the Hyuuga compound.

He felt the shift in atmosphere as soon as they neared. The invisible weight of old tradition, rigid expectation, and years of careful watching settled around them like fog. Eyes tracked their progress and he didn’t need to see them to know it. It was expected. Tsuki, walking beside him with such quiet strength, drew gazes whether she realized it or not. And he, hand-in-hand with her, made no apology for being seen. Not anymore. Once, being this close to the Hyuuga’s ancestral walls would’ve stirred unease in him. Now? Now he only held tighter to her hand, a quiet promise echoing in the way his thumb gently brushed hers. Whatever scrutiny they faced, they faced together.

At the gates, they paused. He looked them over with an unreadable expression of half respect and half challenge until Tsuki’s voice brought his attention back to her. At her soft urging, they took a more discreet path around the side, careful not to draw further attention. It was familiar to her, and he followed without question, eyes scanning the shaded path as it curved gently along the outer wall. “No Byakugan inside the compound, right?” he asked under his breath, though it came more as a joke than true concern. There was a quiet, conspiratorial smile on his lips now, the way he often got when teasing her to lighten the mood. “Should I transform? Change my eyes to blend in?” He tilted his head to the side, his voice dropping into a murmur. “What do you think, love?" His teasing came with a wink, but beneath it was his quiet desire to honor the moment for her, to show that even here among the weight of legacy and loss he was beside her not just physically, but emotionally. Willing to walk her path. Willing to hold her hand even in the quiet corners of grief.

His words caught Tsuki's attention and she looked up at him, scanning his expression. ”No, it is not allowed. More of a honor thing and you know how they are about honor...” Her gaze trailed just a bit, a hint of a smile fading away when he asked about transforming. She came closer, her hand finding his cheek gently, fingertips just barely touching his skin. Her eyebrows knitted together, searching his gaze. ”No... Never. I'd never change your eyes. And I'm not afraid they'll see us together, they can say what they want. The only words I take to heart are the ones you tell me, Yoshinori.” The corner of her eye caught the sight of the intruders. A hint of coldness crossed the lavender orbs but she quickly adjusted to the softness reserved only for him. Tsuki leaned in, placing a single but lingering kiss on his lips. ”I don't care what they think.”

The last sentence was a little louder, as she slowly pulled away, adjusting the flowers in her hand. Oh, they'll speak. They'll tell Akito and the Clan Head, that was a guarantee. And yet, it didn't matter anymore. Neither to her, nor to them, she was sure. Tsuki sidestepped, her eyes fixed on the outer compound wall. ”Good evening. I am sorry to inform you that your assistance is not needed at this hour. Please refrain from interfering. Any further commotion will be considered as a direct insult to the Main family.” It was silent for a moment before retreating footsteps could be heard. Her tone was so uncharacteristically cold, taking the same edge as of any Hyuuga Elder. Her training was a success in some regards, it seemed. ”It doesn't end with them, ever." Tsuki added, smiling at him as they both continued their walk.

The gates opened with a silent creak, and they both entered the sacred ground. Numerous headstones lined the small hill, all of them well kept but not many had flowers present beside them. Years, decades of the Hyuuga heritage laid still in the final resting place, some of the newer ones even with portraits to remember them by. Walking through the delicate stone path, they didn't talk, just took in the solemn, peaceful atmosphere. Before long, Tsuki silently announced ”We're here.” stopping by two headstones, deliberately placed near one another. The one with the name Yoru Hyuuga held a portrait with a man in hid late 30s, a young face with delicate features. The other one, however, was a spitting image of Tsuki, just a tad bit older, although the name written was Hoshi Hyuuga.

She placed the flowers down, cradling them in her hands before slowly letting go inbetween the headstones. She was preparing to speak, just going over it in her mind first.

Yoshinori tensed ever so slightly when Tsuki reached up to his face, a flicker of uncertainty briefly clouding his expression. He knew she wasn’t the type to strike him, not even in jest, but some small, nervous part of him braced anyway. There was always a first time for everything, especially when you said something daring within earshot of a clan like the Hyuuga. Still, he leaned into her touch. His hands rose instinctively, warm palms curling gently around her smaller ones. The tension melted from his frame as she cupped his cheeks, and his brows softened at the sincerity in her eyes. A quiet hum escaped him, more contented than cautious, as he leaned down and pressed a reverent kiss to her knuckles. The skin was soft beneath his lips, and the gesture lingered just a heartbeat longer than necessary.

“As long as you’re sure, love,” he murmured, voice low and intimate, meant for her ears alone. He met her gaze again, catching the subtle flicker across her face and the change in her demeanor, the telltale shift in her gaze that told him someone was watching. He didn’t need to turn and look to know. The eyes on them felt as cold and sharp as steel. Still, his smile didn’t falter. “I’m proud of you,” he whispered, the warmth behind his words wrapping around her like a quiet shield. A few months ago, he might have never imagined Tsuki standing so boldly in the shadow of her clan, but now… now she defied them with poise, elegance, and a calm fire that stirred something fierce in his chest.

There was strength in her voice when she spoke, not just to him, but to them. To the silent observers lurking behind paper-thin walls and perfect posture. There was venom in the chill of her tone, subtle but cutting, a blade sheathed in civility. Yoshinori didn’t interrupt. He didn’t joke, didn’t puff up beside her like some defiant brute. That wasn’t what she needed from him right now. Instead, he stood proud and silent, letting her reclaim this ground with her own power. His hand in hers was his silent vow: I’m here. I see you. I’m with you. Then, just as swiftly, the cold edge in her words gave way to the warmth he knew so well, like a fire rekindled after a cold wind passed through. Tsuki looked at him, and the corner of his mouth lifted into a playful grin. “I fear for when the children earn your ire,” he teased gently, leaning in close enough to nuzzle her temple with the side of his nose before placing a feather-light kiss there. “But they'll probably deserve it.”

Their pace slowed as they entered the sacred grounds of the Hyuuga clan. The silence that settled over them wasn’t awkward or heavy, but reverent. Yoshinori’s gaze drifted across the rows of headstones, each one pristine, lined with deliberate symmetry and ancestral pride. This was a place few outsiders were ever allowed to see, much less walk through, and the significance of that didn’t escape him. He said nothing, out of respect for the dead, and for the woman leading him through their resting place.

When Tsuki finally stopped, murmuring that they’d arrived, Yoshinori’s eyes flicked toward the stone markers: Yoru and Hoshi. He took in the names with quiet grace, then stepped forward and brought his palms together, bowing his head slightly in a traditional prayer. His lips moved in silence, the prayer not for him but for them; for peace, for rest, and for pride in the daughter who now stood before them. As Tsuki knelt to place the lilies, Yoshinori moved closer behind her. His hands reached out, settling gently on her shoulders in a gesture of quiet strength and support. His thumbs traced slow, grounding circles through the fabric of her clothing. Comfort, not distraction.

He didn’t speak, because some moments didn’t need words. All she needed to feel was that she wasn’t alone. And she wasn’t. Not anymore. Not ever again.

Her hand slowky found its place on top of Yoshinori's, his gesture of holding her shoulders meant more than she realized it could. It was so reassuring. Tsuki found her next words easily, the lended support and strenght manifesting through her tone. "Dad," She began, and then, more softly added "Mom..." Her hands neatly folded in her lap, as she kept kneeling by the headstones, her legs folded beneath her. "...This is it. This is us. I'm sorry I never followed the path that you took so much care in forging for me. I tried, and yet, fate had other plans. For what is worth - I finally know what it means to be happy and accepted." Wind picked up, playing with strands of their hair. She took a moment to inhale, dipping her gaze to her palms. "I'm a jounin now. Turns out that the push I needed was never the way the Hyuuga did it. I intend to do what you asked me to, though. Both of you. Father... Dad. I will continue to get stronger but I apologize that the reason for it will not be to lead the Hyuuga." Tsuki's hands clenched the fabric beneath her palms into her fists. "Mom, I will continue to face the world through the eyes of care and love, like you always did. And I will always put my family first. Just not the Hyuuga one." There was nothing more to say.

Tsuki lingered for a moment longer. A wave of lightness washed over her and she stood up, taking Yoshinori's hand. "Until next time. I love you." This was much more easier than she thought and she knew why. Because of the heartbeat just beside her. Her arms found their way around his waist, palms resting on his back, as she gently drew him near, her hug warm and close. She inhaled the scent of his skin, finding that same strenght she needed most. "Thank you..." Tsuki said in a silent voice, her words quickly carried away by the wind. She couldn't understand how she got so lucky. How fate played its cards so well. All Tsuki knew was how grateful she felt for everything he done and will do.

She pulled away, her mind already refocusing to something more down to Earth, something here and now.

Yoshinori stayed silent as Tsuki knelt before the graves of her parents, her words floating through the still air like the petals of the lilies she'd just laid. A part of him had once imagined these two, Yoru and Hoshi, as stern but loving figures. People he might have bowed to and won over with charm or humility. But the more Tsuki spoke, the clearer the truth became. They had not been like her. They hadn't possessed her fire, her compassion, her bravery. And despite her mother's likeness living on in her features, Yoshinori now saw that Tsuki had forged herself into someone new. Someone who honored her parents’ legacy, but didn’t bow to it.

There was something profoundly beautiful in that defiance. When her voice quieted, still thick with feeling, Yoshinori stepped forward. He crouched slowly between the twin headstones, his elbows resting on his knees, his eyes lingering first on Hoshi’s name and then on Yoru’s. The silence stretched between them and him, heavy with words he hadn’t been sure how to give voice to until now. He sighed, a breath long-held and reluctant to let go. “I want to say I’m sorry,” he began, voice low but steady. “For taking her off the path you set for her. For untying the neat little bow you'd wrapped her future in. But I won’t. Because that path, whatever it was, was never meant for her.” His brows furrowed, not in anger but in grief for what Tsuki must have gone through to become who she was. “She’s not a chess piece, or a clan heir to be moved like one. She’s a woman. One you raised, yes. But one who’s chosen a different life. With me.” He looked up at the grave markers again, eyes sharp but not unkind. “I won’t let her go back to being caged. You don’t have to like it. But you, and they, will have to accept it.”

There was an edge to his voice, not for Tsuki’s sake, but his own. For all the time he had watched people like her be shackled by legacy and obligation. For all the times he hadn’t been able to do anything about it. Until now. He stood slowly, brushing his hands off before Tsuki was suddenly in his arms, wrapping around him like warmth itself. He held her tightly in return, her heartbeat thudding against his as if to remind them both of the life they were choosing together. The moon peeked through thinning clouds above, its silver light casting a quiet glow over the burial ground, and over them.

Yoshinori's hand gently tilted her chin and he kissed her; soft and lingering, the kind of kiss that spoke of both grief and promise. His hand cradled the back of her head as he rested his forehead against hers, unwilling to let the moment pass without feeling every breath she took. When he finally pulled back, he looked once more at the names carved in stone. There was sadness in his eyes, but no regret. “Let’s go home, love,” he whispered, voice full of the warmth he only ever saved for her. But just as she turned with him, his expression shifted, mischief flickering behind his gentle smile. “While we’re here,” he added, squeezing her hand softly, “do you need anything else before you’re officially stuck with me for at least a week?”

His words reached her ears like a sacred melody. She heard what was said and possibly left unsaid, the way his tone shifted at the beginning of a sentence and how much raw truth was in his words, struck something within her. Her decision to let him guide her was possibly the best she had ever made. Tsuki's eyes lingered on the headstones as she listened, her chest pooling with a mixture of feelings she couldn't separate or name, somewhere between deep love and hurt for the time lost. Maybe they would have seen reason... Or maybe locked her even tighter, pulling her away from the life she lived now. But it was all just a speculation while Yoshinori was here, real and true.

Their kiss had a sense of finality to it, as if sealing the words they just said, making them even more honest and truthful. It was a promise and a declaration. As she leaned into the invitation of his lips, diving into the unspoken notion, her hands tightened their hold. Her eyes fluttered open, a confident spark evident, with the intention of gently capturing that sadness hiding in the blue. Not to scare it away but to kiss it better. And even if it lingered, it was okay. She'll accept it and love it regardless. "Home... Yes, let's."

Tsuki almost groaned at the implication that they will, in fact, visit the compound itself. She needed her things, considering the Nara house held only her toothbrush and one change of clothing, mission gear at that. While sleeping in Yoshinori's shirts had it's appeal (more specifically, the way he looked at her), there was something warm and inviting to leave more of her items there. To remind him of her, when she wasn't there. "You're right," She finally said, as they began walking to the exit of the graveyard. "Technically, no guests are allowed in the living quarters. That being said, my window is the fourth from the left of the house that holds the Hyuuga crest. Think you can shinobi your way in?" She asked, a hint of tease in her voice as she looked at him from the side. A smile played on her lips, amused one nonetheless. They closed the gates together, and with a nod and a kiss she stole from him, separated.

Tsuki made her way to the nearby back gate, them opening soon after she stood still. A few greetings and head nods, and she was slowly making her way to her house, taking notice of some of the lights still on. Her eyes caught sight of the koi pond, and she decided that she had just a minute to take a look at them, their previous conversation echoeing in her head. There was something so curious about loving someone - even the smallest things reminded of past conversations and it put a smile to her face. Although... She did tilt her head in thought that it was so unfair all she had was koi fish. With that in mind, Tsuki continued her journey, finding herself walking the hallway to her room again.

A servant soon appeared just rounding the corner, and she politely nodded her head. "Tsuki-sama, I am here to inform you on behalf of the seamstress of your wedding kimono. It is unfortunate but it appears an incident happened in Suna, setting back the production. Should we find an alternative?" Perfect. "Thank you, Asuka-san. We have entrusted this family with all of our official clothing for over a decade. I put faith and trust that all matters will be resolved shortly. If Momo-chan needs time, we should ease her concerns and inform that we will wait. She was about to say something else but Tsuki's eyes trailed to her room and the servant bowed, disappearing behind her. Tsuki exhaled, pushing her door open and silently closing it behind her.

She hurried to the window, opening it as silently and quickly as she could, Yoshinori already there with a... What was this smile? It sent a shiver down her back, an interesting one at that, as she placed a finger on his lips and pulled him in, her face full of amusement and a little excitement. A faint blush bloomed on her cheeks. There was something very fun of doing things you shouldn't do.

Yoshinori listened intently as Tsuki quietly pointed out which window was hers, the faintest note of mischief dancing in her voice. He followed her through the edge of the cemetery, still within the hush of sacred ground, when she paused just long enough to steal a kiss. Her lips brushed his in a fleeting moment of affection before she turned with a playful smirk and slipped away into the main house. He blinked, stunned at her audacity in the heart of the Hyuuga compound, and then laughed softly under his breath. “Troublemaker,” he murmured fondly, before melting into the shadows like mist curling around stone.

Twilight had draped the compound in long, luxurious stretches of shadow. Perfect cover for a shinobi. His footsteps were light, nearly silent, as he skirted the outer edges of the property. But the closer he drew to the main house, the more frequent the patrols became. He could feel the tension coil in his muscles with every pause, every crouch, every heartbeat that pulsed in his ears as he waited for guards to pass. Without Tsuki to walk him in openly, he was little more than an intruder ghosting along the Hyuuga rooftop. By the time he reached the window on the fourth from the left on the house marked by the soft-glowing Hyuuga crest his breath was shallow with exertion and his cheeks pink with adrenaline. But then he saw her. Waiting.

Tsuki slid open the window with practiced ease, her expression glowing with anticipation. One hand reached out and before he could utter a word, she tugged him inside. A finger to his lips stilled his greeting, and her delighted smile made the risk feel entirely worth it. “Hi, you,” he whispered against her fingertip as his boots touched down on the smooth wood floor. Yoshinori let his gaze sweep across the room and what he saw made his heart tighten. It was sterile. Sparse. Devoid of warmth. The bed was small, the furniture minimal, everything orderly to the point of suffocation. And yet... she had survived here. Grown here. Somehow, in this controlled, colorless space, Tsuki had perservered.

He turned and closed the window carefully behind them, sealing the two of them away from the rest of the world. When he looked back to her, he didn’t speak right away. He just watched her for a moment, awe softening the lines of his face. “You really grew up in here?” he murmured, his voice low and barely a whisper. He crossed the room in two steps and sat on the edge of her bed, which was as firm and uninviting as the rest of the room.

”Hey, you.” She answered his greeting, taking a few steps back to open the dresser and start packing some items. ”Sorry for this… Um, romance movie secrecy. They would wake up the whole house and then some more to cause unnecessary problems. I’m not ashamed of you – I just value our peace.” She said matter-of-factly although her tone was still soft and laced with affection. Her eyes slowly moved to where he was sitting, his question making her take her room in again. Tsuki’s eyes trailed the walls, before returning to him. ”Yeah… Well, I did spend a good amount of my time in the dojo or in the courtyard but, well, it has the same greyness to it.” They’d explain it as a traditional interior but as with everything the Hyuuga did, there was a more hidden reason to it. Not stepping out of line by minimizing the potential of personalization even in your own space. Tsuki patted her fingers on the top of the wooden dresser, in thought. ”Atleast I had this,” taking a step to the side, she slid her hand under her desk and pulled on the drawer.

A neat, very precisely placed selection of dried herb containers, some vials and creams was revealed, a selection of tools diligently placed on the side as well. It seemed that each piece of the ointment making station was placed in a precise location and Tsuki took one of the containers, turning to Yoshinori. She gently placed his arm on top of it, brushing his thumb over the engraved name that read “lavender”. ”There was a lot of Byakuugan strain back in the day,” she said sheepishly, putting the container down. ”so I found a way to get busy when blind. Speaking of,” something heavier was placed on his palm, a little container with medical ointment, perfect size for traveling. ”Take this, for small cuts, annoying ones.”

With a nod, she disappeared into the small private bathroom, taking some items with her as well, before her eyes caught on her reflection in the mirror. She blinked a few times, checking the slightly darker circles under her eyes and sighted. Maybe the violent morning in Suna did take its toll. Tsuki eyed the anti nausea medicine and took the bottle as well, thankful to have it on hand for the next time. With all that set, she reappeared in front of him and just stood there for a moment, taking in the sight of another person just… There in her room. Not a servant delivering a message, not Nanami helping her with her bandages, just… Someone there. ”S-Sorry, I never had a guest here.” Tsuki looked away, a hint of a blush on her cheeks. ”If you’re ready, we can take the window again.”

"Sneaking around like this with you… it's more fun than I’d like to admit," Yoshinori whispered with a soft grin, his voice hushed to match the stillness of Tsuki’s bedroom. The mischievous glint in his eyes betrayed how much he was enjoying the thrill of it. Of them, together in secret. He leaned back across the bed, watching as she moved gracefully through the room, selecting what she’d need for the days they’d be spending together. The thought of her there, curled up with Shinya in her lap, sunlight spilling across the wooden floors, eased something in his chest he hadn’t realized was tense. Her presence filled the otherwise cold space with color, even if only temporarily. Despite the plain, subdued decor of the Hyuuga compound, she brought warmth in every motion, from the care she took folding her clothes to the quiet reverence with which she opened one of her drawers. His gaze followed her as she reached for something carefully tucked away.

Yoshinori’s curiosity piqued as she revealed a set of containers that were delicate yet clearly well-loved. He had always known she had a soft spot for herbalism, that her hands were as skilled with healing ointments as they were with chakra. But seeing it laid out here, in the one place where she was told not to dream too loudly, struck something deeper in him. These weren’t just tools. They were acts of rebellion, quiet declarations of who she was. When she pressed a small, engraved wooden jar into his hands, he instinctively brushed his thumbs across the soft ridges of the lettering: Lavender. He remembered that scent. His heart ached briefly when she mentioned her old Byakugan strain, but he let it pass. That chapter was behind her now and he’d follow her into every new one she chose to write.

Another container was placed in his palm. This one, she told him, was his to keep. A gift. A promise of care, even when she wasn’t physically by his side. Yoshinori blinked at her, touched. “Okay,” he said softly, his smile small but full of gratitude. He tucked the container carefully into his weapons pouch; an unassuming place to carry something so intimate, but that only made it feel more precious. As Tsuki stepped into the adjoining bathroom to gather more of her things, Yoshinori remained where he was, his gaze sweeping across the room that had, in many ways, been her cage. A cold, symmetrical space designed to contain her spirit. His jaw tightened slightly as he imagined the years she’d spent in silence here. There was a part of him that wanted to tear the walls down with his bare hands. To shatter every inch of control they’d used to keep her small. But not tonight. Tonight, she was choosing something else. Someone else.

When she returned, the gentle smile on her lips met the quiet fire still burning behind his eyes. She asked if he was ready. “Yeah, love,” Yoshinori said, his voice low, rich with affection. He offered his hands and knelt slightly, boosting her effortlessly up to the windowsill. As he climbed through after her, his feet landing silently on the tiled roof, a soft wind stirred around them. Clouds veiled the moon, casting everything in muted shadow, yet the moment still felt luminous. He turned to her, his smile playful but grounded, as if this were a scene from one of his dreams made real. “Now,” he murmured, taking her hand, “let’s go home.”

Tsuki gladly took the boost, climbing out of the window, her backpack catching on the frame. She sighted, turning around with half her body and gently lifted it so the hold would release. She slowly stood up on the roof, aware to make as less sound as possible and turned to Yoshinori, catching his hand to help him stand up as well. She closed the window behind him and when she turned, her eyes caught the beauty of the night and him, blending seamlessly into the gorgeous view. Her heart skipped a beat and to avoid his gaze she checked the window again, as if it wasn’t closed the first time.

”We’ll have to get a view of Konoha someday… Or night. Like we did in Suna. Collect the vantage points.” Tsuki whispered, standing next to him, as she took in the compound, planning their route to get out as fast as possible. ”Alright, Yoshinori, I think I got it.” Slowly, Tsuki straightened her back and with another affirmative nod, she slowly slid her fingers between his, playfully tickling his palm just before. She was happy, it was spelled on her face, the full moon reflecting in her eyes when she looked up at him. With a gentle nudge, they leaned in to sneak out.

It was exciting. Nearing the edge of the roof, both of them jumped down with soft thuds, their backs leaned against the wall as Tsuki peeked her head out to see if the path was clear. With her nod, they both completed the distance of the back garden with quiet ease. It didn’t take long but her heart was thundering in her chest, and just as the exit gates came into view, she was about to say something in a cheerful tone but it never escaped her. Instead, Tsuki gasped, extending her arm to the side and stopping them both in their step, as footsteps reached their ears. She tried to steady her breath to listen and she didn’t like what she heard – they were coming closer, faster than expected although the chatter between the pair of the approaching Hyuuga did give them a slight advantage. She looked around, a little panicked, spotting a tool shed just beside them. There was really no time to explain, so she guided them both inside, first Yoshinori and then her, closing the door as silently as possible, her teeth clenched in focus. The shed was so narrow, she felt Yoshinori’s breath tickling her forehead.

As expected, the footsteps or rather the people did come closer to the shed and Tsuki’s breathing became more and more rigid. Not because she was afraid – because of the thrill.

Yoshinori nearly reached out to unhook Tsuki’s travel pack where it had caught on the windowsill, but she was already turning, nimble and sure, fingers slipping beneath the strap to free it herself. She glanced back at him and offered her hand with a quiet smile, her palm warm against his as she helped guide him through. He took it gratefully, lips curling in response as he slid out beside her onto the tiled roof. The night air kissed his cheeks coolly as he stretched his limbs, letting the tension of sneaking through Hyuuga territory roll off his shoulders. Tsuki stood beside him, already surveying the compound with a quiet, measured gaze. She looked at home on the rooftops. He admired the way her expression flickered as she mapped the best path forward, her mind working with swift, calculated ease. When she finally gave the nod, Yoshinori fell into step beside her, their hands naturally finding one another again in the dark.

He glanced down at her just as she gave his palm a playful tickle, and he nearly burst out with laughter. A muffled huff of amusement escaped him as he widened his eyes in mock scandal, bringing their joined hands up in feigned reproach. But he couldn’t keep the grin from spreading, her smile in that moment glowed brighter than the sliver of moonlight that cut across the compound. What are you doing to me, he thought, utterly enchanted. Together, they moved like shadows. The hush of the night wrapped around them as they leapt lightly from roof to rooftop, their steps barely whispering against the tiles. When they dropped soundlessly to the ground, they melded with the landscape like ghosts. Every few paces, Yoshinori scanned the terrain with sharp, calculating eyes yet it was Tsuki’s hand in his that kept his pulse steady. She led with instinct, and he trusted her completely.

They’d made it halfway through the grounds when she stopped them abruptly, holding out an arm. He halted immediately, his body shifting in sync with hers. Before he could ask what she saw, she tugged him gently toward the shadows, slipping into a worn wooden tool shed tucked against a quiet corner of the estate. Inside the dark enclosure, Yoshinori found himself pressed close to Tsuki, their bodies practically molded together in the tight space. Dust lingered in the air, disturbed only slightly by their soft movements. The scent of old wood, earth, and her skin filled his senses. He could feel the quiet rise and fall of her chest against him, her breath warm against his neck. It was so quiet he could hear the distant crunch of patrol footsteps just beyond.

He glanced down and saw her, silver moonlight streaking across her eyes. She looked ethereal and something about the way she held herself made his heart stutter in his chest. Without thinking, he reached up and brushed the back of his knuckle softly down her cheek before raising one finger gently to her lips. A silent signal: wait. They stood like that, frozen in time, until the footsteps passed by… paused… and then retreated into the distance. When the silence stretched on, Yoshinori finally withdrew his finger but before Tsuki could say anything, he bent down and pressed his lips to hers in a quiet, impulsive kiss. It was brief but full of heat, born of adrenaline and intimacy, of the electric joy of being with he. Alive, unseen, together.

When he pulled back, there was a grin tugging at his lips. Without a word, he pushed the tool shed door open, its old hinges creaking softly. He peeked out, ensuring the coast was clear, and then held it open with a bow of his head and an extended hand. “Your chariot awaits,” he whispered with a wink. Outside, the night air was cool and crisp again as Yoshinori stepped free and softly pulled the door closed behind them. He absently reached over his shoulder and plucked a cobweb off his jacket, brushing away the dust with exaggerated flourish. He turned to her, eyes glinting. “Reminds me of a certain someone I found tangled in webs and dust... our first day cleaning the house.” His voice softened on the last word, lingering with the warmth of memory. His gaze searched hers for a beat, then he offered her his hand again. “Come on, love,” he said, voice low and fond, “let’s finish sneaking off before I get caught and mistaken for a burglar.”

Tsuki’s eyes widened from his touch, her breath caught, tangled in the space between them. His finger gently pressed to her lips, sealing the moment still. They stood there, listening but her eyes and mind were elsewhere. The air was thick with secrets and shadow, and still she could feel the shape of his touch like a memory not yet made. His kiss sent a shiver down her spine and her eyes fluttered shut, lashes brushing her cheeks like wings folding in surrender. It was brief but left a lingering impression, a hint, just bold enough to keep her guessing. Tsuki caught her bottom lip between her teeth and looked away, heat rising to her face.

He opened the door with the same playfulness he reacted to her tickle before and she felt that familiar sensation in her stomach, the one they referred to as butterflies. She loved that side of him – playful, easy, loving. It made even the heaviest of moments disappear and morph into something capturable and grounding. They had to leave, and yet she was stuck just looking at him in appreciation. Snapping out of it, she took a step further, walking out of the dusty shed. ”I don’t need a chariot when I have a prince on a horse, you know.” Her shy grin was teasing when she walked in a circle around him, cleaning off dust and cobwebs off of his clothes. Behind his back, she flicked something away way quicker than she dared to admit with a sense of panic to her action. Tsuki’s hand rested on his shoulder for a moment longer. ”They put the house on hold, by the way,” Her gaze was softer, the memories from the cleaning coming back to her. She loved it there but most of all she loved the sight of him there… More than anything. ”something about the pipes. The village issued a fix and once it's done, I’m sure it will be on sale again.” It will take some convincing and paperwork but she was positive they could do it half/half. It was a rundown – didn’t cost a fortune. The real problem was more complex than this and once it was sorted they could actually consider it.

With that, she gladly took his hand again and without much effort, they both exited the Hyuuga compound. Even the night air outside felt more fresh and Tsuki could swear a weight fell off of her shoulders once they were finally out. ”Are you hungry?” She finally asked, a very domestic, homey question but to her it felt freeing. Tsuki couldn’t promise what the meal would be, all of the shops were already closed, it will take some creativity but she was sure they’ll come up with something. She stole a glance at him under the moonlight, saw how his eyes stayed forward, but his lips wore the faintest curve.

Yoshinori's thoughts had begun to drift at her words, this time to horses, stables, and what kind of pasture they might need, when he caught the flick of Tsuki's fingers out of the corner of his eye. Whatever she had batted away must’ve landed on her shoulder, because a soft shiver rolled down her frame. His body instinctively leaned closer in case she needed help, but she’d already handled it, of course. Still, he murmured a quiet, grateful, “Thanks,” his voice low and laced with warmth as his hand found the curve of her shoulder for a brief, reassuring squeeze. Even the smallest acts of care from her felt grounding.

His attention sharpened when Tsuki mentioned the update about the house. The delay was unexpected, but not unwelcome. While part of him had been eager to see their future home finalized, the extra time meant fewer financial pressures. He could save more from his missions and avoid dipping into his family’s reserve. While he was okay with doing it, he always felt bad afterwards. “Good,” he said with a short, breathy chuckle, their fingers interlocking once more with ease. “Maybe the rumors will scare off anyone who wasn’t serious about living there.”

The rest of their escape from the Hyuuga compound was smooth. No more guards. No more close calls. Just the silence of the evening and the familiar rhythm of each other’s footsteps. They retraced their route with ease, slipping through the same side gate they had entered earlier. The moment they crossed back into the public streets of Konoha, it felt like a weight lifted from both of them. Above, the stars had broken fully through the dusk, scattered across the sky like promises. The moon hung lazily behind drifting clouds, casting the village in a soft, silver wash. Yoshinori squeezed Tsuki’s hand gently and tilted his head toward her, smiling.

“I could definitely eat,” he said with a nod and a low laugh, his stomach rumbling right on cue. After days of eating lukewarm meals from hotels and train food, he was more than ready for something that tasted like home. Something fresh, something warm, something shared. “I stocked up the day before we left,” he added, his expression sheepish as he scratched at the back of his neck. “So we’ve got enough to make something... assuming the tomatoes haven’t started a rebellion.”

His hand drifted up to brush a stray lock of hair from Tsuki’s face, a soft, instinctive gesture. “If you’re up for cooking, I’d love that. Watching you float around my kitchen might become my new favorite thing but…” He glanced around the quiet street. Most shops had already gone dark for the night, but a handful of food stalls still flickered with warm lantern light. The smell of grilled meat, sesame, and soy wafted lazily in the breeze. “We could grab takeout too,” he said, his voice softer now. “If you’d rather keep things simple tonight.” He let the moment hang, not pressuring her one way or the other. Just the two of them in the quiet heart of Konoha, fingers entwined under moonlight, surrounded by the gentle buzz of a village winding down for the night. Whatever she chose, he’d follow because anywhere with her was already home.

”Your new favorite thing? Which one was first?” She asked with a soft laugh trailing her words but soon she heard his stomach rumble and slowly eased their walk to a stop. Her head turned to the direction of the house, still a little further away, and to consider the time of cooking… He was hungry now – and as much as she loved cooking for him, she had to dip her head down a little in defeat and then look up at Yoshinori with a nod. ”Let’s take it easy tonight – we deserve it after all the traveling.” Like second nature, she lifted his hand up to her lips, kissing his knuckles gently, and both of them changed their path to the nearest food district.

The was village was alive, more than she expected, when it finally dawned on her that it was the weekend and everyone was enjoying their time off. Each stall, bar, even the narrow alleyways were filled with laughter, conversation, muffled sounds of affection, and for a second Tsuki thought that it did feel good to see their village in this light. It was just the freedom of people around them that inspired her, and her hand tightened a little. ”Are you up for some gyudon?” Her eyes were already on him when he turned to her, curiously studying his expression. ”Or some dumplings?” Tsuki gently stopped them again, letting Yoshinori think while she patiently stood by his side, overlooking the street.

”Everyone seems to be having a great time,” she mused, and then leaned in to him a little, their shoulders brushing. ”and yet I can’t wait to come home and just be there. With you.”

"Probably best not said in public," Yoshinori murmured, a lopsided smile tugging at his lips as Tsuki slowed beside him. He chuckled softly when his stomach grumbled loud enough to earn a glance, and gave her hand the gentlest squeeze. "Guess that settles it." Their hands remained cradled in each other’s as they shifted direction, letting their feet follow the drifting aromas of food curling through the evening air. Lanterns strung high above them spilled golden light onto cobbled paths, casting long shadows and drawing soft outlines around passerby. The village felt different at night. Less duty-bound, more human. Yoshinori stole a glance at Tsuki beside him, watching the light dance along her cheekbones and the curve of her lips. Somehow, no matter the crowd, he always found himself anchoring to her.

She offered a few suggestions as they wandered, and he listened carefully, not just to her words but to the softness in her tone, the subtle lean of her shoulder into his. "Dumplings," he finally said with a small smile, voice quieter now, thoughtful. "Something easy. Something warm. Comfort food." They found themselves in line before a dumpling stall, the smell alone tugging at long-faded childhood memories. Yoshinori let himself lean into the calm, their fingers still linked, his thumb gently brushing across hers in slow, grounding circles. "We should do this more," he said after a moment. "Not just when we’re between missions or exhausted. Just… being out here with you like this. It feels like something real. Like a piece of the life I didn’t know I was missing until you were in it."

Soon, he was balancing two skewers in his hands as they drifted toward an open table tucked beneath a lantern halo. He handed her one with quiet reverence, his fingers lingering a moment longer than they needed to as he caught her eyes. "Yours always tastes better," he added, a soft laugh escaping him. They sat, and he let his knee press gently against hers beneath the table, just a small, reassuring touch, as they basked in the light of the evening and watched the people pass by while enjoying their dumplings.

She nodded at his pick, gladly following the lead to the stall. as they were walking, she eyed the crowd with a thoughtful gaze. Everyone seemed like they always had – just people, just faces, passersby that she’ll forget in a flash. Subconsciously, Tsuki leaned closer to him, stealing a glance. She’d notice him anywhere, anytime. And that thought alone was enough. It settled gently atop her heart. Her attention was drawn to him again, feeling the familiar grounding sensation on her hand, as he lazily drew circles with his thumb. She listened to him, slowly melting into the moment. ”Yeah… Maybe go out on a date that’s not intertwined with a mission. Or just… Walk around and see where the day takes us.”

”Thank you,” Tsuki said more quietly this time, slowly taking the skewer from his hand, as they both settled down. His touch was reassuring, as she slowly bit into the first dumpling, watching the street, while in reality just staring at one spot for a moment, thinking everything and nothing at the same time. ”wait, what do you mean mine tastes better? Oh,” With a soft chuckle, she completely took the first one in the line off the skewer, her hand covering her lips as she chewed, as she slowly leaned hers to his side, offering a bite. ”fact check.” The smile on her face was playful, holding the skewer patiently.

Once they were almost finished with their meal, Tsuki stirred a little in her seat. ”Er,” she let out a sound, slowly sliding out of her seat as a faint blush formed on her cheeks. ”I’m going to take seconds, one moment.” It was so weird, one day she couldn’t keep any of the food down and then another she ate enough for three people. It didn’t take long for her to come back to their table, handing Yoshinori his piece as well, as she finally settled down again, as close as they were before.

"Your cooking, silly," Yoshinori said with a soft laugh, his eyes twinkling as Tsuki popped a dumpling into her mouth. He watched her with open affection, his amusement lingering long after the laughter died down. When she extended her skewer toward him, his brow lifted, teasing. "You sure?" he murmured, though the fond mischief in his voice gave away that he already knew the answer. Still, he waited that heartbeat just to see her smile before leaning in and gently taking the dumpling with his teeth. A satisfying crunch followed, and then immediately, his expression pinched. The dumpling was scalding hot, and Yoshinori tried to play it off, chewing around the burning bite as if it didn’t bother him. He swallowed with a small wince and a puff of air. "Yours was fresh fresh," he said with a huff of laughter, coughing lightly as he grinned at her. “Worth the pain.”

They made quick work of their skewers, sharing quiet glances and even quieter smiles in between bites. Without thinking, Yoshinori flicked the empty skewer into one of the trash bins nearby, his gaze drifting over the bustling street. It felt alive in a way Konoha rarely did during the workweek; music drifting lazily through the alleyways, couples leaning in close at candlelit tables, friends laughing with their feet kicked up. But no matter how many people surrounded them, his focus always drifted back to her. When Tsuki stood to grab another round, Yoshinori didn’t hesitate. "Grab me one more too, please!" he called, the corners of his mouth lifted in quiet appreciation.

She returned with the skewers and the same sparkle in her eyes, and Yoshinori leaned toward her instinctively, brushing his arm lightly along hers as she sat beside him again. "Thank you," he said softly, voice full of warmth, before tucking into his second round of dumplings. Midway through eating, a thoughtful look crossed his face. "You know," he started between bites, "when I was younger, dumplings were my obsession. I must’ve ruined about fifty batches trying to make the perfect ones in secret. My house always smelled like burnt dough or soy sauce." He chuckled, shaking his head. "Guess I was always trying to prove I could take care of myself… but it’s nicer now, having someone to share things with. You make it all feel less… lonely."

When the last bite was gone, Yoshinori didn’t reach for more. Instead, he set his skewer aside and leaned over, his arms slowly winding around Tsuki’s waist as he drew her close. With the soft hum of a band playing somewhere down the street, he rested his head on her shoulder. The noise faded, the street vanished, and it was just them. Just her heartbeat beneath his cheek and the warmth of her presence anchoring him to the moment. "This is… nice," he whispered. His voice was different now. Gentler, rawer. "I love the rush of missions, the purpose they give, but nights like this... just us? Together? I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world." He didn’t need her to answer. Not right away. Her being there, beside him, was enough.

She almost face palmed. Instead, Tsuki closed her eyes for a moment, a slightly painful expression on her face as she understood that the complement went right over her head. Soon, this morphed into a chuckle and the air filled with their laughter, both of them looking at each other with loving eyes. Her eyes slowly trailed the way Yoshinori bit into the dumpling, her hand rested on her cheek but before she could just melt into the moment, and just stare at him with quiet appreciation and devotion, the dumpling proved to be too hot. Tsuki gasped, and leaned in, just before he managed to avert the crisis on his own. She laughed again, the sound light and airy, sweet and unstrained. Tsuki’s hands found their way to his cheeks, gently pulling him in for a small kiss, could’ve masked it as taking off the heat but in reality it was just him being adorable.

Tsuki returning with more skewers, Tsuki ate her’s and just as she was about to bite, Yoshinori’s words stopped her. With a happy glint in her eye, she turned to him, not only her head but also her body, actively listening. Whatever the length of the story, she always had a time for it. She rested her elbows on the table, holding her face with her hands and listening, complete, undivided attention. It didn’t seem forced – on the contrary, her eyes and face were honest, just drinking in the presence of him in this peaceful evening. ”I can almost see you young, handling pots and pans with your tongue sticking out in focus,” Tsuki let out another laugh, and then her expression softened again, her voice falling slightly into something more quiet, intimate, just for his ears. ”You’re very independent, so I think you’ve achieved that. Although, I do want to baby you sometimes but even when I kiss your cheek you pout. It’s cute, don’t get me wrong. It’s just… It’s what I know. Do you know I check your body for injuries before we say hello to each other?” Her gaze trailed to the dumplings again, considering if she should eat on a good stomach day or rather wait and digest to not get any surprises later. You never knew with those two. ”I guess it’s my love language. I don’t know… I’m not very educated on the matter. I just know what I feel.” The conversation was not something deeply emotional, yes, it was personal and affectionate but not hard to decipher – in reality it was pretty lightweight, her being so comfortable with him to speak of that freely.

Before Yoshinori could finish his food, Tsuki excused herself again, coming back just a second later with two sodas in her hands, one of lemon and the other, naturally, strawberry flavored. She set the two glasses on the table, not ready to end the evening yet when familiar and loving hands found her waist. She loved it, especially when he’d pull her closer, it made her little heart skip beats, even after all this time. She tilted her head just a little bit, resting her cheek on the crown on his hair, while her hands found his around her waist, slipping her fingers between his. She closed her eyes for a moment, happily drowning in the loving moment. ”You know… I get it. I feel the same. I’m just happy you’re there whatever the moment is – of panic, of happiness, of…” She blushed but didn’t linger too long on it. ”I’m just so grateful you’re there. Here. I don’t think I say this enough… But I love you.”

She fell silent for a moment again. Her eyes opened, watching the empty street, while Tsuki herself was lost somewhere in her head. ”...I also like it when you blush. Makes me feel like I’m doing something right, and making you feel special. Because you are.” She turned her head slowly, planting a simple but warm kiss on his forehead. ”Mine.”

"I love you too," Yoshinori murmured, his voice low and reverent, barely rising above the ambient sounds of the night. "More than I have words to tell." He let the quiet sit between them like a warm blanket, neither awkward nor empty. Just peaceful and content. His brows lifted slightly when Tsuki leaned down to press her lips to his forehead, her touch gentle but firm, her mark both possessive and affectionate. The heat of her kiss lingered there longer than it physically should have, and his heart beat a little louder for it. He looked up at her, eyes soft. "Always and forever, love," he promised quietly, as if saying it too loud would make the moment scatter like dust in the wind.

Then his lips curved into a small, teasing smile. “You like it when I blush, huh?” he asked, his tone dipping into playful territory. "There's a snapshot in my head from last night that makes me blush and more." His grin widened with the admission, but his gaze never left hers; it held something deeper than his words let on, something smoldering beneath the surface. He picked up the strawberry-citrus drink she’d gotten for him and took a long, cooling sip. The flavors popped on his tongue: sweet, tart, and unexpectedly refreshing. "Okay, that’s actually really good," he said as he set it back down. “Definitely leaving an impression.”

"I'm not sure about ‘special’ though,” Yoshinori added after a pause, his voice softening. “But I trust you. If you say so, I’ll believe it.” He gave her a quiet, almost shy look before continuing. “You’ve always seen something in me I didn’t know was there… and that means more than I know how to say.” The band down the street shifted tempo, and the music swelled into something dreamy and melodic. He tilted his head, genuinely impressed. “They’re good. I’ve walked past this alley a dozen times during the day and never thought to come by at night. Feels like I missed out.” He glanced at Tsuki again, his gaze full of unspoken affection. “If anyone’s special though, it’s definitely you. That I have no doubt about.”

Around them, the streets slowly began to wind down. Some people peeled away, heading toward home or quieter destinations, while a few stubborn stalls still pushed through the night. Lights flickered and shopkeepers called their last orders. Yoshinori’s gaze wandered lazily, scanning the crowd for something new or interesting but his thoughts were already drifting. Without warning, a yawn overtook him. He blinked, startled by his own body’s betrayal, and looked around sheepishly as if trying to blame the wind. "...Okay," he finally chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck with a smile, “I guess I am tired.” He turned to Tsuki, his tone soft, tinged with a tenderness that hadn’t quite left him since dinner. “Do you wanna head home? Or... maybe find a coffee shop, sit a little longer?” He paused, then gently bumped her shoulder with his. “Your choice, love. I'm happy wherever you are.”

She gasped, her face turning red in an instant. ”Yoshin-... How dare...” She couldn’t believe him, making her look around just for a second, more to emphasize the moment than to actually be afraid someone overheard them. Wait.. “And more”?! Tsuki leaned in closer, hiding her face in the curve of his neck, switching up the dynamic of their cozy embrace. Unfair. She somehow wiggled her hand out, using the space between Yoshinori’s arm and his side, reaching for her drink as well.

Taking a few sips, she hummed in agreement – this was really good, a perfect last taste to their dinner. They slowly shifted, sitting beside one another again, and she stilled, listening to him. ”I’m not saying it just because to say it. I mean it… You are special to me. I always thought that my biggest weakness will be my qualities, personality traits, inability to stand for myself or something like that. Turns out my biggest weakness is outside my body… It’s you.” She slightly straightened her back, looking at him with a focused gaze now, more serious than before. ”If anyone targets you, does som… It’s the only way they can really hurt me.” Her hands clenched into loose fists. She meant everything she was saying, and always picked her words, atleast, tried to. Years of practically being non-verbal due to her timidness helped her with that, as much as possible.

The fatigue was kicking in slowly, and she took note of Yoshinori’s thoughts on the band. Tsuki nodded, her gaze moving to the location of the sound, before she caught the yawn in the corner of her eye. She smiled, looking down for a moment, soft gaze trailing up to his face. Slowly, Tsuki stood, and gently pulled his hand, inviting to stand with her too. ”It’s time to go home.” With her hand in his, they said goodbyes and thanked for their food again, once again stepping into the street. The street lights buzzed above them as they slowly made their way home. For some time, all she heard was gravel crunching beneath their feet, when a yawn escaped her too, her hand slowly covering her mouth. For a second, she’d thought that teleportation sounded really good right now, and yet, almost winced at the thought of using chakra in any form at the moment. They had such a great time, made so many memories, and a good night's sleep in each other’s arms would really seal everything. A perfect ending to another episode of their life.

”Do you think it’s too soon for kids?” The question seemingly came out of nowhere, and yet, if she was honest, it was circling in her head for some time. Maybe it was the fatigue that made her blurt it out. But it was a question she was doing mental gymnastics on, mainly because of everything that still needed to be sorted out. What if she was a bad mom? Her motherly figures weren’t exactly dealing with small children, ever… What if she didn’t know something? Oh god, how do you change them? What do you do when they cry? Oh god. ”I d-don… I don’t even know how to do CPR on a baby.” Her voice was laced with fatigued panic.

"Fortunately for us then," Yoshinori murmured, his voice dropping to something intimate and steady as he reached down to cradle her clenched fists in both his hands. Gently, he lifted them toward his lips, brushing soft, lingering kisses across each knuckle as if sealing a vow into her skin. His eyes met hers, warm and unshaken. “I’m pretty damn strong,” he whispered, not with arrogance, but with the quiet conviction of a man who would move heaven and earth if it meant protecting her. A small smile tugged at the corner of his lips. Confident, yes, but colored with gratitude. “And I have you to thank for being the reason I ever wanted to get that strong in the first place.” He let his thumbs softly glide over the backs of her hands. “I’ll be fine. We’ll be fine. I promise.” The way he said it left no room for doubt.

When Tsuki began to rise, her hand tugging at his to follow, he stood without resistance. They moved together in quiet harmony, clearing away their table, tossing the skewers and drink cups into the bin nearby. Yoshinori offered a soft, genuine thanks to the shopkeepers still packing up, nodding politely as they stepped away from the warm hum of the crowd and toward the quieter rhythm of the gravel path. The Nara forest loomed ahead, a comforting silhouette against the velvet night sky, dotted by the soft golden glow of hanging lanterns. As they walked, the sounds of the village slowly faded, replaced by the hush of rustling leaves and the familiar cadence of their steps side by side. Yoshinori’s eyes were growing heavy from the day’s wear and tear, the gentle lull of Tsuki’s presence lulling him closer to sleep with every step until her voice cut through, sharp with anxiety.

He turned toward her instantly, concern flickering in his expression as her tone cracked with something too close to panic. “Hey... hey,” Yoshinori soothed, his voice warm and grounding as he stopped in his tracks and wrapped his arms around her. He held her close beneath one of the gently swinging lanterns, the light casting soft shadows across their faces. He pressed his cheek to the crown of her head and rocked her gently, hands rubbing slow, comforting circles over her back. “There’s classes for all of that, right?” he murmured against her hair. “And we have Saigo, he’s practically a professional baby wrangler at this point,” Yoshinori added with a soft chuckle, trying to coax a smile from her with a touch of humor, but never letting go of her for even a second. “Besides...” He leaned back just enough to look down at her, brushing a lock of hair gently from her face. “Actions have consequences, sure,” he said with a quiet smile that tugged a little more vulnerable than before, “but I don’t regret a single one.”

His expression sobered slightly, though his voice stayed soft and certain. “It’s okay to be scared. I’m scared too, sometimes.” His thumb swept along her cheekbone as he pressed a light kiss to her forehead. “We’ll be okay, love. One step at a time.”

He took her into his arms, and the chaos began to lose its grip instantly. His breath was calm against her hair, a silent rhythm that coaxed hers to follow. Tsuki gently clenched the fabric of his jacket with her hands on his back, pulling him closer, inhaling his scent. His chest rose and fell against her cheek, each breath steady and real, a rhythm for her to follow out of the panic. He was right, like he always was. She trusted Yoshinori and his judgement of the situation. ”You’re right, I’m… Sorry. Thank you.” She finally breathed out leaning back just a little to see his face. She didn’t regret anything too. Even if by some miracle someone handed her a time machine, she’d never rewind it. The butterfly effect was too perfect to be just a coincidence but Tsuki didn’t dwell on that thought too long.

”Let’s get you home, and me too. We need sleep…” She gave him another gentle squeeze, thankful for his power to ease her mind so smoothly. They unveiled a whole laboratory, blew up a mountain and jumped on a train from a horse's back. There was nothing that could stop them, it seemed. And their lives were just beginning. With that thought, she offered her his hand, and they fell into step again, nearing the forest soon enough. The walk through the forest path was different – stars as silent night guides danced in unison while the moon hung in the sky, always watching, each and every creature, no matter their place or time. Tsuki took notice of how bright the stars in the sky were, her head leaned back to check, a lot of trust placed in the hand that held hers to not trip over and fall. Soon, she smiled, a tired but sincere one reached her eyes, as she looked to Yoshinori, gently brushing her shoulder to his. ”I think I saw a falling star. Didn’t make a wish, though. I couldn’t think of anything more that I could want.”

Reaching the beloved house, Tsuki resisted the urge to fall to the grass and kiss it, like a man out in the sea for too long. ”Ah, motherland… How I missed you!” Even if her tone was hushed, it did all the theatrics needed to get the playful joke across, stealing a glance to see if it landed. Yoshinori was barely blinking at this point and another smile tugged at her lips. They approached the door in tired but comfortable silence, and Tsuki, for the third time, fished something out of his front pocket. It was the key, which she gladly used to open the door, a gust of fresh night air entering the house before they took a step in.

"There's nothing to apologize for," Yoshinori murmured softly, his voice warm as he leaned down to press a tender kiss into Tsuki's hair. She had taken a moment to calm her nerves, and he didn't fault her in the slightest. After the whirlwind of the past few days, moving constantly, little sleep, and the mental weight of it all, he was amazed she hadn’t collapsed under the pressure. He could hear the shift in her tone, the subtle softening that told him the storm was passing, at least for now. Relief crept into his chest and stayed there as he nodded gently in agreement when she mentioned heading home. Without needing to say more, he fell into step beside her. His hand found hers instinctively, fingers threading together until their palms were flush. Her touch was familiar and grounding, the one constant in all the chaos that had surrounded them lately. He squeezed her hand once just enough to say, I’m here.

As they crossed into the edge of the Nara forest, the trees rose up around them like sentinels, tall and ancient, swallowing them in quiet shadows. The air was cooler here, still carrying the scent of moss and bark from the evening breeze. Yoshinori stayed close to her side guiding her gently when roots threatened to trip her or when low-hanging branches dipped too close for comfort. He didn't say anything about it, they were just small protective gestures that came naturally now. He glanced at her as she looked up at the slivers of moonlight peeking through the canopy, her expression soft in the pale glow. A quiet smile tugged at his lips at her words. “I can’t think of anything either,” he murmured with a chuckle, shaking his head. “Can’t say I would’ve said that before all this... but I mean it.”

When the outline of the house finally came into view, nestled in the heart of the woods, his breath eased from his chest in a quiet, grateful sigh. He let out a full laugh when Tsuki stepped onto the grass with a hum of satisfaction, especially knowing just how far removed this place was from anything Hyuuga. The porch creaked gently beneath their steps as they climbed up. Before he could even reach for the key, Tsuki’s hand was already in his pocket, fishing around with playful familiarity. He didn't stop her. Instead, he watched her with an amused smile, letting her find the key herself before she held it up in triumph and unlocked the door.

The moment they stepped inside, Yoshinori released a long, contented breath. The air smelled like wood and herbs and something uniquely them. Before he could even fully take it in, a blur of fur dashed toward them. Shinya, already chirping for attention. “Go get settled in,” Yoshinori said with a smile, placing a kiss against her temple. “I’ll feed him.”

While Tsuki disappeared down the hall, he laid their bags on the kitchen table and crouched near the cabinets. Shinya weaved around his ankles, tail flicking impatiently as Yoshinori pulled out the container of kibble. The dry food tinkled into the bowl and the cat dove in without hesitation. Yoshinori stood with a stretch, letting a yawn escape him, the weight of the day starting to press down on his shoulders. He made sure to lock the door behind them, then rubbed his eyes as he wandered toward the bedroom. The house was quiet now, peaceful. “Tsuki?” he called softly, voice carrying gently through the stillness as he padded barefoot across the floorboards. All he wanted now was her warmth curled up beside him.

Tsuki smiled, squatting and petting the black cat who was crying for attention it seemed. Shinya brushed up to her, tail as straight as a string on a guitar, excited and happy. Yoshinori mentioned food and Shinya, like on command, started meowing and following him, or, more precisely, guiding him to where the cat food was, getting in Yoshinori’s way of course. Tsuki just shook her head slightly and straightened her back with a stretch, murmuring a silent thank you to Yoshinori, who was already on his way to feed their little stray. Or the real owner of the house, both names fit.

She made her way to the bathroom first, setting what needed to be set, and did all the small rituals before bed. She changed to her pajamas, which was basically an oversized, comfortable shirt, unassuming and baggy. Her eyelids grew heavy as she was brushing her teeth, barely blinking at that point. Taking her backpack in her hand she made her way to the bedroom, placing it by the wall for tomorrow. ”Hi bed…” She said as a half-joke, half-asleep nonsense, a tired smile appearing on her face just for a brief moment. She slowly crawled in, curling up into a small ball and patiently waiting for Yoshinori to come. Patiently – exactly one and a half minutes before drifting to sleep. She didn’t even manage to pull a cover over herself.

Falling asleep so fastly and in such comfort was something she missed dearly while away. There was no better feeling than knowing that Yoshinori will come and snuggle her close, sharing his warmth with her, even on the most hot summer nights, there was no better feeling.

Yoshinori nearly laughed aloud when he stepped into the bedroom and caught sight of her. Tsuki, freshly showered and already dressed for bed, had succumbed to sleep right on top of the covers, limbs relaxed in quiet surrender. A quiet chuckle rumbled in his chest, soft and fond, as he leaned against the doorway for just a moment long enough to take her in. There was something deeply endearing about how peaceful she looked, as if the chaos of their days couldn’t reach her here. A warm smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he padded across the room on silent feet. Careful not to wake her, he moved first to the windows, drawing the blinds shut and dimming the lights to a soft glow that barely kissed the walls. The house instantly felt quieter, cozier. Safe.

Yoshinori returned to her side and gently pulled back the blankets, working with deliberate tenderness. He eased her beneath the covers, tucking the soft fabric around her body like a protective shell. She murmured something in her sleep, just the faintest sound, and his hand lingered for a moment on her arm, smoothing down the sleeve of her shirt with a quiet reverence. A soft meow caught his attention as Shinya padded in, tail flicking with curiosity. Yoshinori crouched to scoop him up with a whispered “Shhh,” before placing the little ball of fur gently beside Tsuki. The cat immediately curled up near her hip, content and already half-asleep. Yoshinori leaned in and brushed a kiss across her forehead, letting it linger for a heartbeat longer than necessary. Then, with quiet reluctance, he stepped back into the hallway.

In the bathroom, the gentle rhythm of water echoed off the tiles. Yoshinori peeled away the black, sand-dusted clothes from their journey and let them fall into the basket before brushing his teeth. He moved through the motions with a kind of thoughtful slowness, then finally stepped into the shower just as the water reached that perfect warmth. The heat soaked into his muscles, unwinding the fatigue stored deep in his shoulders, and he tilted his head up into the stream. For a few quiet minutes, all that existed was the water and the sound of it hitting skin, tile, breath. It felt like shedding the weight of the day, not just physically but emotionally too.

By the time he returned to the bedroom, steam still clinging to his skin and hair damp, he wore nothing but a simple pair of black sweatpants. The air in the room had cooled, but the sight of Tsuki curled beneath the blankets, already sharing her warmth with Shinya, drew him in like a magnet. Yoshinori slid beneath the covers and, with a careful, quiet motion, reached out to her. He pulled her closer into the curve of his body, one arm wrapping around her waist, the other tucking gently beneath her pillow. Her back pressed against his chest, and he breathed her in: lavender and warmth and everything familiar. He placed a kiss against the curve of her cheek, soft and deliberate, and closed his eyes. "Goodnight, love," he whispered into her hair, voice thick with affection. And as the steady rhythm of her breathing lulled him into sleep, Yoshinori felt that this, right here, was home.
