Kobayashi, Shizue

[There's nothing I can't fix]

General Information Age: 23
Gender: F
Height: 5'5"
Weight: 125 lbs
Physical Features:
  • Face/head: A youthful face with underlying depth which only comes from seeing the underbelly of the world, her eyes are what captures the attention the most, their cascading colors ever changing with the light, the setting, and the mood that she’s in. She has a tanned face with no visible blemishes, as she takes care to make sure that each and every day she keeps her face immaculate. The wear and tear of the world is deeper than her skin and finds itself in the way that she walks when no one is around, in the slight slump to her shoulders, in the knitted brow that she has when she is thinking alone, and not worried about wrinkles.
  • Body: A lithe figure with a rather unimpressive C cup, she is well suited to scouting missions, but less suited to the rigors of battle. Shizue maintains a runner’s physique, but tries to keep a well-balanced look overall. She readjusts her fashion and her clothing to try to make herself appear more feminine, because when she dons clothing that is more in a male or androgynous, she appears to be a young man. She keeps her hair long, and usually does not put it up for this reason.
  • Notable Features: She is noticeably more white when someone can see her tan-lines which she keeps hidden at almost all times. She has started to have fuuin tattooed to her body, but usually in places that are hidden from the world rather than wearing them brazenly like the other shinobi she knows. She, being a ninja in the land where the Samurai keep the peace isn’t used to battle, so she has less muscle definition than others in her profession. She has multi-colored iridescent eyes, which change color in the light and with her mood which is her most notable feature.
Clothing/Accessories: Usually wearing the height of fashion, she comes from money being the daughter of one of the bankers in pebble country. She was educated through her father’s wallet, studying under the best minds that passed through pebble. While she dresses to impress, she usually keeps a more practical pack of clothes when she travels, but if she can afford to, and she usually can, she brings with her a change of clothes for almost every occasion.

Personality:
  • General:
  • Hopes/Dreams: She hopes to some day be the most well-known user of Iijutsu and medical taijutsu in the world, rivaling the sages of the past.
  • Fears: She fears obscurity, and being forgotten.
  • Combat Mentality: A back-line healer, she is most likely to bolt if anyone starts showing a more than healthy interest in her, or throws bloodlust in her direction.

Abilities and Concentrations
Abilities
First AbilityA Doujutsu that allows Shizue to see with MRI vision when she channels Chakra through her eyes.
Tōmeina shikai:
Tōmeina shikai Dojutsu
Utilizing the Tōmeina shikai, Shizue is able to penetrate layers of her victims through materials that would normally hinder such vision, much like an MRI.

Utilizing the body’s natural electromagnetic waves, along with the ones naturally occurring in the environment around the person, Shizue is able to view into a person’s inner anatomy. The applications of this vision are limitless, ranging from diagnosing someone with a sickness, pinpointing a poison, finding a buried foreign object, or any other diagnosis that involves sight.

The ability grows with Shizue, and Shizue is able to utilize this a number of posts equal to Shizue’s endurance divided by two. The strain on the eyes is such that it inhibits any further use of the technique without mastery. If Shizue uses the technique the post count for a cooldown between uses is equal to ½ the post count of the activation. So if Shizue uses the Tōmeina shikai for 2 posts they would need to rest for 1 post. The minimum of posts for the cooldown after use is 1 post.

The way that an MRI works is that it peels layers of a person or object away in sections, able to remove the top layer or layers of an object, usually about 1 millimeter thick, able to be studied, converting a 3 dimensional object into a 2 dimensional object. This can be used on inanimate and animate objects. The drawback is that Shizue, while using this, is unable to see in the three dimensional plane and has tunnel vision. This means that depth perception goes down while using the technique, meaning that without other taijutsu techniques, this is practically useless in battle.

Being a valuable scouting technique that is able to see through layers of an object is beneficial but also has another drawback. While Shizue is using this vision to see through the layers of objects, they more easily do not notice other things that are right in front of them. An example would be if Shizue is using her vision to see into an enemy who is performing a technique that shoots a water-ball. The eyes would allow her to see through the enemy shooting the water ball and the water ball itself, and therefore would be unaware of the water ball’s presence until it was too late.

Similar to other Doujutsu, the Tōmeina shikai is an ability that can have a permanent iteration. If Shizue undergoes a 4,000 word thread training this ability and purchase the A ranked ninjutsu below, then they are able to use the ability indefinitely and at will giving it the ‘permanent’ tag. This permanent vision can be switched on or off without the penalties listed above but comes at the cost of -3 to Shizue’s Endurance as the cost on their body’s performance is strained.

Tōmeina shikai: Permanency (Eizoku Tōmeina shikai Doujutsu)
A rank Ninjutsu
This jutsu requires dedicated time and practice with the Tōmeina shikai as well as a ritual (4000 word thread) to unlock its full power. By performing said ritual, the user with this jutsu is no longer bound by the cooldown period of the Tōmeina shikai; they can turn it on and off at will without regard for any time limits. However, this comes at the hefty cost of -3 Endurance permanently devoted to powering the ever active Tōmeina shikai.

Jutsu
NinjutsuShow
basic NinjutsuShow
*[Basic Jutsu • Clone Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After completing a set of handseals, the user forms a slight chakra 'body', thus creating a single, massless clone. The clone created from this technique is very basic and will dissipate when hit with anything. These clones do not possess vital signs or a unique chakra signature, meaning they don't disrupt the environment, and anything on their person is superficial. The clone has 1 in each stat. They are limited to basic movements.

*[Basic Jutsu • Transformation Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After completing the needed handseals, the user of this technique will be able to alter their physical appearance to match that of another person. By consistently emitting chakra throughout their body, the user is able to keep their appearance adjusted at the cost of their Chakra Pool draining over time. As this technique is quite strenuous to uphold, experienced shinobi may see more clearly through this delusive disguise. This technique lasts for a number of posts equal to that of the user's (Chakra Pool/2).

*[Basic Jutsu • Chakra Kai]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
A jutsu used with the purpose of activating seals and a range of devices and weapons, this technique begins with a single handseal. Once this has been performed, the user will focus a dollop of their chakra into what they are looking to activate in order to complete the task. Seals activated with this technique must be within 10 meters of the user's position.

*[Basic Jutsu • Act of Tree Climbing]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
By focusing chakra into his/her feet, the user is able to walk up trees and other vertical surfaces in a similar fashion to walking along the ground. This chakra amount must be precise, and although all shinobi learn this technique, the user's control stat will determine how well this jutsu can be executed. Users with low control 2 or lower will often fall during the use of this technique, while users with average control 3 or higher will be able to use this technique functionally. It lasts for a number of posts equal to the user's Chakra Pool.

*[Basic Jutsu • Act of Water Surface Walking]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
A variation of the Act of Tree Climbing technique, this jutsu requires the user to focus a precise and balanced amount of charka into the soles of his/her feet. By doing so, the user is able to walk on the surface of water as though it were a solid surface. Users with low control 2 or lower are much more likely to fall through the surface of the water, while users with average control 3 or higher will be able to use this technique functionally. It lasts for a number of posts equal to the user's Chakra Pool.

*[Basic Jutsu • Kai Release]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
A rather simple technique that allows the user to escape from a genjutsu. The user will form a single ram seal and focus to reset their chakra system to purge themselves of foreign chakra. The stat requirements for this technique can be found in the genjutsu rules.

*[Basic Jutsu • Change of Body Stance Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
After completing the necessary handseals, the user is able to quickly substitute his/her body with a nearby object that is at least 2/3rds his/her size, but no bigger than their body. This substitution allows the object to take the force of the attack that was meant for the user, additionally allowing the user to create distance between him/her and the opponent. The object used in this jutsu may not be objects that are imbued with chakra or controlled by it unless it is the users own, and they may also only be single, solid objects within a 10 meter radius of the user. This technique may only be used a total of one time in a single thread, give or take how many times Shunshin no Jutsu has already been used.
IijutsuShow

*[Iijutsu • Personal Protective Equipment]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
When real latex equipment is not on hand, the user will perform a single hand seal and will focus chakra onto their hands, nose, and mouth to form a thin layer of chakra around them at [Control] Speed and Strength. This chakra will filter bacteria and other particles to and from the user, the environment, and their medical equipment. This technique can be held as long as the user has chakra.

*[Iijutsu • Sterilization Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
The user will channel the needed chakra throughout their upper body (torso, arms, hands, face) at [Control] Speed. This chakra will chew away at harmful bacteria and other foreign bodies on the skin, cleansing it until it is thoroughly sterile, and can be spread to objects, most commonly surgical tools. Users of this technique can also choose to sterilize certain parts of their upper body or the wounds of another person instead. Once they are sanitized, they remain this way until coming in contact with more bacteria.

*[Iijutsu • Bandage Technique]
D-Ranked Ninjutsu
The user may channel chakra into an object (such as a leaf, piece of cloth, etc.) in the absence of bandages to sterilize it and is able to apply it to the wound of a patient. Once applied, the selected object will adhere to the flesh around the wound, protecting it from bacteria and other harmful foreign bodies. Wounds covered by this jutsu not only are safeguarded against bacteria but also applied an antiseptic and burn ointment to further provide aid.
C rankShow

*[Iijutsu • Chakra Stitching][/color]
C-Ranked Ninjutsu
The user performs a short set of hand seals and then will gently place their index finger at the base of the patient's wound. Once this is done, the user will lift their finger and touch it to the other side of the wound, causing a visible 'stitch' of chakra to appear and hold the wound together with [Control] Strength. This is repeated until the wound has been pulled together. Actions performed with more [Strength] or [Speed] than the [Control] used to create the stitch will destroy it.

History
Historical AccountsShow
Shizue Kobayashi was born under the shadow of opulence and despair. Her father, Hiroshi Kobayashi, was a wealthy banker in the capital city of Pebble Country, one of the rare individuals who had managed to thrive amidst the rubble-strewn landscape left by the last great shinobi war. Her mother, Itara, was a scholar and historian, who poured her energies into preserving what little remained of the culture and history of their fractured land. From an early age, Shizue was caught between two worlds: the insulated, wealthy existence her father's success afforded and the grim reality of the decimated country outside their manor walls.
Shizue's childhood was marked by a peculiar loneliness. Her father's work demanded long hours, while her mother was often buried in ancient scrolls and texts. Though her parents provided material comfort, they were emotionally distant, leaving Shizue to navigate her formative years largely on her own. She spent much of her time reading and wandering the manicured gardens of their estate, her mind often drifting to the stories of Pebble Country’s once-lush forests and towering trees.
Despite her solitude, Shizue was a curious and observant child. Her favorite pastime was watching the bustling streets of the capital from her window. She saw merchants haggling over goods, farmers bringing produce to market, and beggars pleading for alms. The stark contrast between her life and that of the common folk ignited an early sense of guilt and responsibility.
Shizue’s education was nothing short of elite. Her father hired the finest tutors, many of whom were scholars, shinobi, or retired shinobi. She excelled in her studies, particularly in medicine and history, subjects that resonated deeply with her desire to understand the world and heal its wounds. By the age of fifteen, Shizue had memorized entire medical texts, often impressing her tutors with her ability to grasp complex theories.
It was during one of her lessons that Shizue first learned of the devastation wrought by the shinobi war. Her mother showed her a faded map, pointing out the once-vast forests and thriving villages that had been reduced to barren wastelands. This lesson was a turning point. Shizue realized that her privileged life was built atop the ashes of her ancestors’ suffering. That night, she resolved to use her education to make a difference.
Her resolve was tested when she encountered a wounded traveler outside the city gates. He was a shinobi, scarred and ragged, barely clinging to life. Ignoring her governess’s protests, Shizue brought him water and bandaged his wounds with torn strips of her silk scarf. Though her efforts were rudimentary, they saved the man’s life. This encounter solidified Shizue’s desire to become a medic.
Convincing her father to allow her to train as a shinobi was no easy task. Hiroshi, ever pragmatic, saw no need for his daughter to involve herself in the dangerous world of ninjutsu, especially surrounded by the relative safety that the samurai awarded, including the neutral events that they held there in pebble country.
“You have everything you need here,” he argued. “Why risk your life when you could help from the safety of the capital in a job which is protected by the samurai at our world-renowned hospital?”
But Shizue was relentless. She pointed out that her knowledge of medicine and her access to resources could be used to train others, to rebuild her country from the ground up. Eventually, her father relented, albeit reluctantly, and arranged for her to join a small training group within Pebble Country, consistent of the military class.
Shizue’s entry into shinobi life was jarring. Unlike the children born into Samurai families, she lacked the physical conditioning and combat experience that her peers took for granted. Her lithe frame and refined upbringing made her an easy target for ridicule.
“Princess Kobayashi,” they would sneer. “Here to save us with your silver spoon?”
But Shizue refused to be deterred. She dedicated herself to mastering iijutsu, the art of medical ninjutsu, and supplemented her training with rigorous physical exercises. Over time, she began to earn the respect of her peers, not through brute strength, but through her intelligence and determination. Her iridescent eyes, which shimmered like opalescent jewels, became a symbol of her unwavering resolve.
Upon graduating as a genin, Shizue joined a small team tasked with scouting missions and providing medical support. The missions were often grueling, taking her deep into the desolate regions of Pebble Country. She saw firsthand the suffering of her people: malnourished children, families living in crumbling huts, and survivors of old battles still haunted by their scars.
One mission, in particular, left a lasting impact on her. Shizue’s team was sent to a remote village plagued by disease. The villagers, distrustful of outsiders, initially refused their help. Undeterred, Shizue worked tirelessly to gain their trust, treating their sick with limited resources. She even risked her own health to stay with the afflicted, ensuring that no one was left unattended. Her efforts paid off, and the village began to recover. The gratitude in their eyes was a reward greater than any medal.
Despite her successes, Shizue often felt the weight of inadequacy. She knew she was not a fighter; her combat skills paled in comparison to her teammates. In battles, she found herself retreating to the back lines, focused solely on healing and support. While this role suited her, it also fueled her fear of being seen as weak or cowardly.
Shizue’s journey was not without its challenges. The burden of her responsibilities often left her feeling isolated. Her long hours studying and training left little time for friendships, and her inability to fully connect with her teammates deepened her sense of loneliness. She often found solace in writing letters to her mother, though she rarely sent them, fearing they would only worry her.
Her fear of obscurity also gnawed at her. Shizue dreamed of becoming the most renowned iijutsu user in the world, but she often doubted her ability to achieve such greatness. She poured herself into her studies, experimenting with new techniques and even beginning to tattoo fuuinjutsu seals onto her body. These seals, hidden beneath her clothing, were both a symbol of her dedication and a practical tool for her healing arts.
Despite the hardships, Shizue’s spirit remained unbroken. She envisioned a future where Pebble Country could rise from its ashes, a land where its people could thrive once more. She hoped to establish a network of medical centers throughout the country, staffed by skilled samurai who were trained in the ways of chakra and healers. Her dream was not just to heal individuals, but to mend the very fabric of her society.
Shizue’s determination to make a difference became her guiding light. Though she feared obscurity, she came to realize that her impact was not measured by fame but by the lives she touched. Each life she saved, each wound she mended, brought her closer to her goal.
At 23, Shizue Kobayashi is still at the beginning of her journey. She is a genin with much to learn, but her heart burns with the desire to leave her mark on the world. Her iridescent eyes, reflecting the light of her dreams and fears, are a constant reminder of the depth and complexity of her character. Shizue may not be the strongest warrior, but she is a healer, a visionary, and a beacon of hope for the broken land of Pebble Country
