The sounds of a hammer could be heard clanging away inside the forge. A cool breeze blew through the trees above Rai's head. The ever present murmur of a crowd of anxious buyers watching his masters work be pounded out. Rai smiled up at the warm sun on his face. Life is good today in Kumo He thought lazily. He stared around the yard behind the forge. A squirrel frolicked happily around and a small child chased a ball into the street, picked it up, and ran back to his friends without incident.

Rai watched the kids play happily for a short amount of time. Then he spotted something out of the ordinary He frowned and jumped at the ready. The target was moving fast away from him. Rai jumped up into the tree he had been leaning against and hopped the rooftops until his quarry turned down a side street to avoid the crowds. Rai smiled..I have you now

His target walked quickly through the empty side street and was almost to the end when Rai made his move. He dropped from on high directly in front of....This is the most attractive woman i have ever seen Rai smiled devilishly.

" Why hello sweetheart....May i escort you to your house?...and once we arrive may I escort you to your bed?" Rai held out his hand in offering with a sly wink and a charming smile. The woman stared at him wide eyed for several minutes before realizing who he was. Then it was her turn for her smile to turn devilish."Why...young Rai i would hate to have to tell master Tenshu that you are accosting his customers...I have heard he is not kind on those who bother his customers..."

Rai coughed and dropped his hand. He was obviously flustered. "Well I err......I'm sorry ma'am. You just be on your merry way and if you need any help with anything just let me know" Rai regained his composure and wall walked back up to the roof leaving a very smiley woman in the alley below.

Rai arrived back at the tree that had started his little venture and sat down at the base of the trunk. He shook his head and leaned it back against the old tree. The sun warmed his face and he listened to the sounds of the hammer beating away on metal.

Rai didn't remember being dropped roughly on the floor of his house. Nor did he remember Tenshu coming into the living room shortly after Soku left and hoisting Rai onto the couch. Tenshu stared at the drunken youth on the couch with a tenderness not often shown by the banin. Tenshu smiled to himself. Although Rai and Soku were adopted sons he truly cared for them as his own. Tenshu tossed a blanket over Rai and went back to bed.

Rai awoke on the couch in his living room....with absolutely no recollection of how he arrived. He vaguely remembered being drug through the streets of Kumo. He vaguely remembered this because of the obvious wounds on his back and the backs of his legs that could only come from being drug on concrete. He sat up too fast and his head begun to spin. I drank entirely too much last night. As if reading his mind...and wishing to punish him he heard his master, Tenshu, begin to hammer away on a piece of metal. Each clang rang loudly in Rai's ears and made his head scream. Slowly Rai stood to his feet and walked to the kitchen.

He grabbed two eggs from the fridge and cracked the on the counter before setting them to cook in a pan on the stove. He watched the yellow liquid bubble for a second. before turning to the coffee pot. Sweet sweet coffee he thought to himself. And much to his delight his master had made a brand new pot. He poured a cup and smelled it. Rai moaned a little to himself in satisfaction.

He turned back to his bubbling eggs and smiled. I really hope i can hold these down. He flipped them out of the pan and onto a plate. He took a sip of coffee trying his bes to ignore the incessant pounding coming from the forge. Rai splashed hot sauce onto his eggs and ate quickly. He also finished his coffee before leaving the kitchen and making his way to the small courtyard to relax against his favorite tree.

Rai climbed the tree and sat on a low branch. He sat where the branch met the truck and rest his head on the ancient tree. He smiled to himself and decided that his team wasn't so bad. He wondered where Soku was.

We need to talk, brother." Soku said flatly as he walked through the forge's doorway, wiping his greasy hands on a rag after working all morning.

The special Jounin rested his shoulder on the tree's thick trunk and crossed his arms, falling into his usual informal lean before asking "Got a minute?"

Rai opened his eyes and glanced down at his brother as he leaned informally against the tree. Rai grinned a little "I promise i won't throw up on you while you are down there" He said jokingly. Just then a little spurt of eggs decided to retaliate and he burped and coughed. He frowned at his stomach before answering his brother's question

"Sure bro what is it?:"

"Me and Akimi had a little chat last night, she's worried about how well our team is going to work together." Soku explained, his metal toothpick waiving through the air as his jaw moved.

"And to be honest, so am I. That's scary considering I don't usually give two flying rat turds about anything but the forge." The special jounin added the last sentence in all seriousness, he had never been interested in the lives of others.

"So I'm going to tell you this once. You need to stop constantly hitting on Akimi and Baako."

Rai's smile drooped at the very mention of their names. He thought back to the disastrous attempt at courting them in the forest clearing and sighed heavily. He nodded slightly before talking You needn't worry about that brother...those two are unreachable. And besides. I have my eye on someone else."

Rai smiled at the very though of the girl he had his eye on. In fact she walked past the entrance to the courtyard that very second. Rai's eyes went gaga and his jaw dropped as she walked bye. He watched her go past before returning to normal. He shook his head slightly as if snapping back to reality.

"How is work in the forge brother?" Rai asked innocently. He secretly hoped his brother hadn't noticed his eyes bug and his jaw slacken at the sight of his red headed goddess.

"I didn't know you had a thing for red heads." Soku said in a very nonchalant tone, "Then again, you have a thing for anything with a rack and legs."

He intently watched as the woman passed, not surprised at all to see that she was a knockout.

"So what's her name?"

Rai frowned at his brother's comment. "Her name is Megami...and this one is different. I'm not just trying to get laid. I actually want to have a meaningful relationship for once. I'd like just once to not have to run half naked across rooftops from a girls bedroom." Rai stared off into space picturing Megami.

He turned to his brother. "I think its time we took a mission brother...The question is what type of mission do we want to take....and are we taking the entire team"

Soku was surprised to hear his brother actually get back on topic, that was usually his job. But he wasn't going to complain about it anytime soon.

"I suppose we'll take whatever mission the Raikage assigns us." Soku replied casually, "And why wouldn't we take everyone? If there's one thing our team needs it's opportunities to work together."

With his attitude problems, Akimi's up-tight personality, Rai's persistent pick up lines, and Baako's childish behavior Soku knew that it would take some time for everyone to get to comfortable and friendly terms with each other. It would take even more time to work effectively as a team, especially in the heat of battle.

But the way Soku saw it they had two options. They could either suck it up and cooperate or they could die in a horrible blood spewing death because of their dysfunction.

"Before we do anything I think we should at least get a game plan down." Soku suggested after several moments of deep consideration. "Who does what if this happens, you know?"

Rai stared at his brother blankly for a minute. He turned away and stared towards the forge and sighed...It's now or never i suppose. Rai turned back to his brother, pushed a small lock of hair from his eye, and took a deep breath.

"Brother I think i am going to leave the team. I have my own personal reasons. But mostly I don't think i can face Akimi or Baako again. Our tracks are different brother. You wish to further your art and technique. I wish to further myself and my rank. You know my dream is to one day become the Raikage and frankly i don't see myself getting there on this team. I think it's time we went our separate ways. Of course my brother. I will not forget our paths to take down those ho harmed us. Maybe it is in fact for us to set out on that venture?" Rai ended his speech and exhaled. It felt as thought a great weight had lifted from his shoulders. He smiled. Megami had just walked bye again. Rai stood from his perch on the tree and hopped down to stand directly in front of his brother.

" I know my decision may be rash as the team has only just gotten together. But team life is not for me i think. A partner is all i need. And brother If that partner is you. So be it. If it's not. I'll start searching. In the meantime we should begin investigations on our mother."

Rai stared upwards at the clouds. He smiled. We'll do you proud dad. I know we will

Baako was now heading to the forge,She wanted to apologise for the way she acted at their last meeting. She was happier than ever to be on the same team as her beloved Soku. Just thinking of his name made her smile widely, which slowly turned into a frown. I made a complete idiot of myself that night. What was that strange drink Rai gave me. Hmmmmm?
As she walked she noticed a girl pacing back and forth at the Door way of the Tenshu's Forge. She glared, She better not be trying to get my mans attention! or i will tear her apart! Flames where burning in her eyes as she walked toward the forge. She began thinking of horrible ways she could punish this girl. As Baako came closer, she saw Soku and Rai talking. Her ears perked with curiosity as she heard their convocation. They than slowly lowered and she stopped in her tracks as she heard Rai saying he was leaving the team. Her eyes started to water and her heart sank. She than ran into the Forge and glomped Rai screaming "YOU CANT LEAVE! I WONT LET YOU! RAI DONT LEAVE PLEASE DONT! I BE I WONT DRINK ANYMORE! AND I BE NICE TO YOU! OH RAI! IM SOO SORRY!" She started to cry, tears rolling down her flushed cheeks.

Soku was about to interrupt his brother because he spotted Baako out of the corner of his eye, but it was too late. When the special jounin saw the look on the Kunoichi's face he knew that the waterworks were about to start and there was nothing he could do about it.

As Baako attacked his younger brother, Soku's face went blank when Rai mentioned looking for their mother. He knew that the odds of her actually being alive after all of these years were slim at best, and he didn't know if he could handle that kind of news. The rage that had been fueling him all this time would have been for nothing, it would make his life look like a sick joke.

But they still had to try. And at that point Soku knew what they had to do. But not today. Today he had a wailing chuunin to deal with.

"If you keep that up the old man is going to kick all of our asses, Baako." Soku said in all seriousness. "Also, hello to you too." he added with a sarcastic tone.

Rai patted the wailing Baako lightly on her back in a vain attempt to comfort her. He stared at his brother with a look that plainly said "Why didn't you warn me" He sighed. "Baako it has nothing to do with the other night. I just have things I need to accomplish. I simply need to get out and get things done to further myself before I can focus on protecting you Baako." Rai smiled. He stared up to the thick clouds and winked at Soku.

"You see Baako I genuinely care about you and I have to do some dangerous things on my own, I can't take you or Akimi along because I don't want to put you both in danger. Soku on the other hand I don't care about because he is my brother" Rai laughed aloud at this then he gently Kissed Baako on the forehead and let her go.

"Stem your tears Baako. I am not going away forever. Just for some time. I will return to Team Mongoose someday. That I promise." Rai looked at Baako's sobbing form and smiled. I didn't know i had such an impact on her. Rai uncrossed his fingers and turned to Soku. Well brother I am trusting you to Give Akimi the news."

Rai laughed lightly as he spitted Tenshu standing in the doorway of the forge. He was covered in soot with an angry frown on his face. He saw Rai standing there smiling. Soku with a blank look on his face. And a girl crying next to Rai. "Rai did you hurt another girl's feelings?!" Without waiting for an answer Tenshu threw his hammer at Rai. It hit him square in the forehead with enough force to knock him down and leave a considerable welt.

Rai sat up and rubbed his head. He opened his mouth to call out to his master but the man had already returned to work. Rai frowned. Then turned to Baako hoping she had calmed down.

Baak steped away to avoid the kiss on her forehead. Her sad eyes turned to a glare and instead of her normal pupils they were in their cat like form. For she new he was lieing. She may be young but she is not dumb. She slapped him across the face. "I dont need protection, I am a shinobi and i was assigned to this team just as you are. And you leaving shows that you only care for yourself and know one around you." she sobbed. Her tears faded a way and her voice was getting harsher as she spoke. Her ears were lowered. She than looked over to see Tenshu come in and hit him in the head with the hammer. She smirked. "Hopefully that knocks some since into you Rai." She scowled.

"Told ya..." Soku muttered, an eyebrow arched as his brother rubbed what had to be the mother of all bumps on his forehead.

He also made a mental note to refrain from pissing off Baako in any way. Rai should probably consider himself lucky that the chuunin didn't use her claws.

"It's his choice, Baako." Soku said in a calm tone, meeting the disgruntled woman's eyes with his own charcoal grey pair. "You can scream at him all you like, and you're more than welcome to slap him to your hearts content, but it won't change anything."

The special jounin braced himself for Baako's reaction, ready to spring out of the way just in case she got even more slap happy.

Rai looked taken aback and quickly jumped into the tree. He stood rubbing both his sore cheek and his hammer wound. He stared down at the furious Baako. "I meant no disrespect Baako I know you are a formidable Shinobi I was only stating that Where i am going I cannot be followed. Except by Soku." He turned to his brother Rai stared at him with a grimace on his face. He couldn't believe Soku had given Baako permission to beat the tar out of him. He sighed and his frown drifted away. It was kind of sudden.

"Look I didn't mean to cause any dissension in the team but according to Soku I have done enough of that as it is. So for the good of the team. and for the advancement of myself...yes myself as selfish as that is I must be selfish in order to achieve my gains. Baako...someday I will be The Raikage and when I achieve that goal, I will hold a special place for Team Mongoose among the elite of Kumo..That" And with this Rai held both hands up fingers stretched out wide to indicate they weren't crossed. "IS a promise"

He then grinned and frowned as he remembered something. She pulled away from my kiss...Interesting but not the first rejection. Rai stood there staring at Baako with a dumb look on his face.

Baako stayed quiet for she knew Soku was right. She turned away from Rai. So many promises that was given to her and none kept. She sighed and walked over to Soku and placed her forehead on his chest. For she knew if she was to look at Rai she would want to hit him again just making that boost. She murmured nonsense as she started to cry again.

Soku sighed as Baako made her way towards him. He understood where she was coming from, he knew better than anyone else what it was like to lose someone he cared about. But it wasn't like Rai was dead or anything, he was just quitting the team to achieve his own goals.

The chuunin rested her head on his chest and muttered something he didn't quite catch before crying once more.

Not being the most sentimental person in the world, Soku would have felt more comfortable if she would have ran screaming at him, clawed hands whipping through the air, wailing like a banshee. Then at least he would have known how to handle the issue.

So he patted Baako on the shoulder awkwardly, not knowing exactly what else to do.

"Hey, it's not so bad..." He said after a few moments of trying to think of something to say that would stop her from crying. "Um..."

The special jounin looked up at his brother and shrugged, "I got nothin'"

Rai sighed and hung his head. He jumped down from the tree looked around for a few minutes. He smiled wide as he spotted what he was looking for. "Hold on Baako...I'll be right back." Rai then sprinted for the far wall of the courtyard and scaled it quickly. On top of the stone wall growing in a crack was a small but stunningly beautiful flower. Rai smiled. He plucked the flower from the crack and jumped off the wall.

"Baako I got this for you. It is the rarest flower in all of Kumo....I hope you like it" Rai smiled and held out the stunning flower. It was blue around the edges and slowly turned to a bright orange in the middle. I hope this works

Baako turned her head slightly but keeping her forehead on Soku's chest. She smiled slightly as she saw the flower, she took it slowly and held it close to her bosom. "Thank you Rai" she smiled slightly. She than looked up at soku, blushing a deep red. "err, Thank you too Soku" she said faintly. She than took two steps back still blushing. She looked at Rai than at Soku. "So .. what now?"

"Now I have to get a new shirt, this one's all wet." Soku said before turning and making his way towards the house, hands deep in his pockets and the metal toothpick wagging through the air as he chewed on the end of it.

He twisted the front door's knob and stepped inside. He took two steps before seeing Tenshu busy in the kitchen, probably making a sandwich or something. "Good toss old man!" he called over his shoulder before walking into his room and slipping off his wet shirt.

He quickly dressed once more and made his way back outside. Hopefully the other two had thought of a way to resolve this during his absence.

"To be honest Baako...I have no idea...I hadn't really thought much further than telling Soku about my plan. I had only planned to leave the team to ease the dissension that I caused." Rai hung his head in shame. He looked up from under his unruly hair at the sopping wet Baako. He smiled at her and came out of his slump.

"I'm sure you understand. It's hard for me to resist such beauty. Which is another reason i must leave the team. I would be distracted by your beauty Baako and it would hinder my performance." Rai smiled hoping this compliment was tasteful enough that he didn't look like a pig to Baako. He truly cared for her...and hoped she had a his opinion of him. He smiled this was shown by her wailing when she found out he must take his leave.

Baakos right hear perked for a moment when Soku went inside to get changed. She looked over at Rai and smiled slightly. Than her other ear perked when she heard his comment to him. She has always been told that she was good looking and many men had tried to advance on her, but resulted in many injuries for them. She looked back at the door way to where Soku disapeared.
"Rai-san, dont take this wrong, I am very flattered by your comments. But i am saving my heart for someone else." she than looked at Rai and smiled. "And i dont like how your using my looks as an excuse. I know really why you are leaving. And i understand. Thank you for being sweet. Just stay safe." She than winked at Rai.

Soku stepped out of his house and walked over to where his brother and Baako were standing.

"So did you guys make up or should I go grab a chair and some popcorn?" He said jokingly, flashing a smug grin at both of them. "But seriously, we don't need an all out war in our front yard. We're already on our neighbors' bad sides, seeing a cat woman rip some poor guy to shreds
wouldn't exactly be "family entertainment."

Soku crossed his arms and looked at his brother, his expression serious now. "Since you aren't going to tell Akimi the news yourself, I guess I better get going." The special jounin turned his head and nodded at Baako before saying, "You're welcome to join in on the fun, you're on her team too after all."

Rai nodded at Soku, "You're right i really should start training." He smiled at Baako. Then turned on his heel and walked up the courtyard wall. He waved at the pair before jumping over the wall and sprinting over the rooftops. He needed time to clear his head before he began training. He sighed to himself as he caught a glimpse of red hair beneath him. Not today Megami...but soon. Soon I will have the courage to speak with you

Baako looked at Soku and back at Rai, sighing she placed the flower that Rai had given to her in her Goggle strap. She bowed to Rai and than turned towards Soku's Direction and started to run.
