The sun was rising over Konoha and Kanako was wandering, aimlessly around the village. Since she had recently graduated from the academy, she thought that explore the village a little. Growing up, she never really had any interest in going outside and prefered staying at home. She didn't regret it, but now Shiromaru's with her she has started to go out more.
As she continued to meander around, she realised that she wasn't really exploring as much as, sleepwalking. Not paying any attention to her surroundings nor destination. Yawning, as Shiromaru looked up at her, Kanako began to smell the air around her. The more she understands the village, the more help she would be on missions. At least, the D-ranks anyway.
Letting her nose lead her she shut her eyes and began to take in all the scents of the morning in Konoha. She walked by some restaurants and small shops as she seemed to traipse into the centre of the village.

The smell of Konoha in the morning
The smell of fresh baked bread spread through the air from the bakeries. The sound of carts rolling through the streets making morning deliveries. Tak, Tak, Tak A walking stick hitting the ground as its owner checks the path in front of him. Despite the dim light of the early morning, Akio was wearing his signature heavy black shades, semi-long blond hair occasionally obstructing the glasses.
Despite gaining a sixth sense to replace his vision, Akio still used his old cane out of habit. Besides, it was better to be assumed blind, than to be stared at like a freak. As he walked about he mainly relied on his sense of hearing to determine his surroundings. Aside from the smell that accompanied it, he could hear the pitter patter of padded feet approaching slowly on his left.
He heard a heavier set of foot falls not far apart, most likely someone taking their dog for a walk. He turned his head and looked to his left and was surprised to detect a girl walking with her eyes closed. He was curious as to how she avoided bumping into things until he heard it. Sniff. Sniff. She was using her sense of smell to direct her path. A highly impressive feat that not even he could do with his heightened senses. He stopped moving and wondered if shed move around him.

The smell of Konoha in the morning
Kanako drifted through the streets guided only by her sense of smell. She had always been skilled with that particular sense, even to the point where she could tell when her uncle had visitors before they had reached the door. Passing by the people who had started to get busy as the morning rolled on, she took note of the fresh smell of bread gathering from nearby. Continuing to walk down the path, she became distracted by the smell of food and lost track of her surroundings.
Not long after the strong, sweet smell of fresh bread took over, Kanako began to smell another scent in front of her. It was quite mild and she couldn't really tell what it was, but she tried to focus on it more as she got closer. The smell of the bread faded into the background and she started to break down the new scent a bit more. It was a fresh smell, that had hints of leaves and paper. She stopped just short of its origin and leant in. "It's calming." She commented as she re-opened her eyes. In front of her she saw a boy with fluffy blond hair wearing a pair of shades.

Akio was surprised as the girl leaned in and sniffed him. It was certainly a first. He'd been laughed at, teased, pitied, and wrote off even. But never had he been sniffed. He smirked as she spoke and waited for her to realize what she was doing. When she opened her eyes he chuckled.
"I'm going to take that as a compliment mind you, but, what exactly do I smell like? I, like most people, am use to my own scent don't notice it."
He had a warm and gentle smile. As he looked back at her his doujutsu completely hidden behind the black shades. He noticed the sound of the padded feet stopped as she had and glanced down. He tapped his cane even though his doujutsu told him the pupper was there.
"Your friend seems rather quiet. Not a morning person?"

Kanako glanced down at Shiromaru. He was looking away from them and yawning. He was normally standoffish with people if he didn't know them. He would decide whether someone was a danger and just ignore those who weren't. "Shiromaru is usually quiet around strangers. He doesn't mean anything by it though." It was true that he was a quiet puppy, he only really made noise when he had to.
Returning to face Akio, she was hit with the realisation that he didn't seem to be annoyed by her. Usually when she met someone, they would either get angry for no reason or become nervous and leave. Suprised by his lack of negative reaction she almost forgot what he had asked her. "Oh? I guess you're right, when you're too used to a smell, it almost disappears." She leaned in and sniffed the air around him again. It was definitly a calming scent. A lot of people she knew from her uncle had robust and earthy scents, some with hints of copper. He cocked an eyebrow at her as she leaned in to sniff again and wondered what the girl's view on space bubbles were like. Not that he was complaining, the closer she was the easier it was to track her location without using his doujutsu.
"Hmmm paper and trees you say. I suppose that could be a calming scent."
He'd pause trying to see if he could make out the scent she described. It was barely noticeable to him. No more than anything he smelled dog though if it was coming from the girl or her four legged companion he was unsure.
"Awai Akihiro by the way. And uh, kinda just doing my morning walk."
He belatedly realized his words may or may not be offensive to her. Oh well hopefully she realizes that he wasn't trying to make a dog joke. If she did take offense well maybe he could make it up to her with breakfast.

The smell of Konoha in the morning
Kanako nodded in affirmation, as the boy acknowleged the calming quality of his scent. She was glad that he seemed to be okay with her presence, not a lot of people her age were. Ask he stayed silent for a moment, Kanako looked down to check on Shiromaru. He had laid down near her, but was still scanning the area, as if he was guarding her. Returning to her conversation with the blond boy, he introduced himself.
"Akihiro."
She repeated his name out loud, so as to remember it. She wasn't as good with names, but she never had many to remember anyway. She mostly got away with remembering scents and faces. She was going to have to remember a lot more now though, especially if she wanted to do well as a Genin.
Pausing for a beat, she decided that she should introduce herself too. She was told to everytime she met someone with her uncle.
"I'm Kana-"
Inturrupted by a noise from her stomach, her perpetually blank face refused to change.
"...-ko. So you were on a walk?"

A smile flashed across his face as he heard the rumbling in her stomach interrupt her introduction.
"Indeed although I think we should go get something to eat before the grumbling beast attacks us eh Kanako?"
He teased her lightly and nodded his head to indicate a good place to het some food. The smell of bread was likely what made her stomach roar in protest and the bakery had a number of selections good for a morning meal.
"And we can't forget Shiromaru either. Breakfast is the most important meal of the day after all. Can't have him wasting away to nothing on you now can we?"
He chuckled and lightly bopped the pupper on the shoulder with his cane. He was curious about the doggo. While they were common enough a pet, he did know the Inuzuka clan was famous for raising them as warriors to fight side by side with.

The smell of Konoha in the morning
Shiromaru raised his head, looking up at boy who tapped him. Realising that Kanako would probably be moving soon he stood up, shaking the dry dirt from his coat. He stuck close to her at all times, guarding her and stopping dangerous people and animals from approaching... That is to say, he would be if any did try to come near her. Konoha was peaceful for those inside the walled village so he didn't need to guard her so resolutely. Nevertheless he was always prepared to protect her from anything.
Thinking back to her uncle, Kanako was sure he'd scold her for not eating any breakfast if he found out. He wasn't a strict man, but he would tell her off if she failed to keep herself healthy. She nodded her head, agreeing with Akihiro's plan.
"You're right. We should get some food. We were planning to do some training after this."
Kanako wanted to help Shiromaru get as strong as he could. She didn't want him to get hurt trying to help people like before. Although, training wasn't just for the purpose of strengthening him, Kanako also enjoyed helping him and working together.
"What were you going to do after your walk? It it just part of your normal morning, or where you planing to go somewhere?"

Akio thought as he walked his cane tapping the area in front of him as he relied on memory to navigate the streets, using the can to clear his path forward so he didn't run into anyone. The strain of his doujutsu while minimal, still left him tired from over use, only recently having unlocked it. He also used this as a form of training to keep his other senses in a heightened state.
"I have an appointment at the training field around noon till then I'm free. Was probably gonna show up early and practice some jutsu while I waited. What about you?"
He reached out and opened the door holding it for Kanako and her pupper. The scent of fresh baked goods was overwhelming. Some sweet others buttery. Akio approached the counter using his hearing to detect the people in front of him. As his turn came up he'd approach with a smile.
I'll take a grilled cheese and a glass of milk. I'm also paying for the girl behind me. Take your pick Kanako."
He'd step to the side to allow her to order.

The smell of Konoha in the morning
Following Akihiro over to the bakery Kanako noticed he was tapping the path in front of him, with his cane, as he walked. She thought it was a bit odd but decided not to say anything. Shiromaru kept himself close to her as they walked to the shop.
"Well, Shiromaru and I usually practice our teamwork in the morning. We haven't been to the training field much, but we were suppose to go there today."
She walked through the open door as Akio held it and entered the bakery. It was thick with the sweet smell of warm bread, so much so that you couldn't compare it to the comparitively light scent outside. Kanako followed Akio as he approached the counter to order, Shiromaru beside her. After he gave his order he mentioned that he was paying for her. Tilting her head in confusion, he let her know she could order and stepped aside.
Shiromaru looked up at Akio as he crouched down to pet him. Despite being quiet and standoffish, he didn't exactly mind people. He stood still as he was petted. He had a pretty soft and fluffy coat.
"Um... Bread, please. Thank you."
Quickly turning to face Akio after finishing her order, Kanako gave him a bow of thanks only moving her head. A loaf of freshly baked bread was passed to her and she stepped to one side. Watching Akio pet Shiromaru, Kanako tore a bit of her bread off and passed it down to the ninken.

"Who's a good boy? Yes you are. Oh sooo fluffy!!!
He smiles as he pets the fluffy ninken as it gobbled down the bread. He could tell his grilled cheese was done by the smell of the molten gooeyness amd the slight burned smell emanating from the back. He stood up and went to counter getting his food. Taking one of the triangles hed bite into it and smile.
"The bread is good but if you're training you should have some protein. Care to try a bite?"
He'd offer the other half to her. Regardless of whether or not she takes it he'd work on finishing off his half between bits of conversation.
"I'm gonna make a guess. Dog that follows you everywhere, sniffing strangers, and training field. Shiromaru is a ninken and you Kanako are an Inuzuka yes?"

Shiromaru focused on eating his bread, ignoring the praise and petting he was receving from Akio. After the boy stood up, Shiromaru moved back over to Kanako.
Kanako watched Akihiro take his sandwich start eating. He seemed to be enjoing it with a large smile on his face. Shortly after taking a bite, he offered her some of the other half. Hesitating for a bit Kanako leant forward and smelled it. It was definelty cheesy. It was a very strong, slightly sour smell with a bit of something burnt. There was still a hint of fresh bread, but it was mostly covered up by the cheese. Finishing a cursory sniff, she took a small bite from it. The cheese was melting a still fairly hot almost causing her to regret accepting the offer, but it was definetly tasty. Swallowing the small bit of cheese and bread in her mouth she gave Akio another slight bow with only her head.
"Un, it's nice."
Looking back at him she noticed that he had half finished the other triangle. He was eating quite quickly as he continued to talk. He worked out that she was an Inuzuka and Shiromaru was her ninken. She was a bit surprised by his question, until she remembered that she didn't tell him.

He heard the crunch of the toasted bread as she bit and smiled. When he heard it was good he simply nodded his head as if he expected the response. As the conversation continued he noticed she wasn't eating any more of the other half of the grilled cheese so he started to eat it himself.
"The Inuzuka Family is fairly well known throughout the village, though, at best I'd say my knowledge is rather superficial."

Kanako brought the bread infront of her face and started to nibble at it as Akio was talking. He seemed a bit akward with the subject, but told her about her clan. She nodded as he finished his explanation, staying quiet for a few beats after, as she finished some of her food. Walking through the door, cold, fresh air hit her face. It wasn't particularly chilly, but it was certainly cooler than the bakery.
"Ah. That's not what I meant."
Before continuing, and explaning what she was asking, she started to eat some more bread. She could still taste the grilled cheese sandwich over the bread she was eating. It wasn't unpleasant, but she started to wonder when the taste would leave. It made it hard to smell things. She walked towards the training grounds with Shiromaru slightly in front of her, and Akihiro beside. After another short time she started to say what she had meant.
"I wondered if you knew about me and Shiromaru? Before we met."
Going back to her loaf once more, she noticed that she'd eaten around half of it herself. Kanako took another bite before putting the rest away.
"Ah. That's not what I meant."

The smell of Konoha in the morning
What an odd question to ask Akio mused. Despite his age he only graduated the academy recently. Was there an Inuzuka in his class? Perhaps, but if there was, it wasn't likely that it was her. If they'd been in class together more likely than not she'd have remembered him. After all, a visually impaired shinobi isn't a common sight.
"No. At least not that I can recall. Did we go through the academy together?"
As they neared the edge of the village proper and neared the training grounds, the sounds around them changed. Gone was the sounds of the early risers. No bustling within shops to prepare for the morning rush. No the sounds of spring rang loudly in his ears. Birds singing their beautiful melodies calling out to one another. The squeaks of squirrels as they searched for the nuts that had been buried prior to winter. The natural world was awakening.
The change in audible scenery indicated they'd reached the edges of the training grounds. A mix of fields and forest, home to training dummies and venomous insects to suit every training need, including survival training. This brought Akio's mind back to the present. As much as he had enjoyed her company,it was probably about time they parted ways. At least he didn't want her to stay with him just to make sure the blind kid made it to where he was going.
"Well I have to be off. What do you say we continue on till our paths diverge?"
"No. At least not that I can recall. Did we go through the academy together?"

The smell of Konoha in the morning
Noticing his confusion, Kanako assumed that he had worked out her identity on his own. It wasn't like it was uncommon for her to meet new people who knew who she was before they met, but it seemed like this wasn't the case for Akio. To be fair, those who knew about her beforehand were either friends of her uncle, or people from the academy, not really people out and about. She shook her head in response to Akio's question.
"I don't think so. I don't remember your smell."
Walking a bit longer they reached the grounds. Originally, Kanako wasn't too fond of this place. Not for any big reason, but it didn't have a comforting smell. It wasn't home. But after having come here many times over the last couple of years with Shiromaru, she had gotten used to it and began to enjoy her time here. Looking around, it seemed quite empty. There wasn't many people here this morning and Kanako could smell the wet bark and grass, over the smell of sweat and metal from people practicing. While she was taking a deep breath through her nose, she heard Akihiro mention that he was heading to the appointment he told her about before. Thinking for a bit, she decided that it would be nice to walk with him until they went their seperate ways. She didn't really get to walk around with people all that much, apart from Shiromaru and her uncle of course.
"Ah. Un, okay."
Kanako continued to walk into the training grounds. Shiromaru kept close to her throughout as he monitored the treeline vigilantly. He knew that it had been a long time since she had been attacked by that bear, but he wasn't going to take any chances.
